Oh my, that never ending fish and chips deal is so good. I know the menu said it's never ending but the fish you get are so big that you can't order a second serving. I was too stuffed. The service was a 5 out of 5 as well. I will be back here again. Not sure if I'll order something new because that fish I ate was very good!!

This place is awesome. The staff is very friendly, the happy hour is decent, the atmosphere is mature, the food is fantastic. I've been to other locations, and this one beats them all so far. This is a great place to start your night off. Grab a bite here where you know the food is good, then move on (or not) to the places you can't even trust to make you mozzarella sticks. There aren't that many televisions, but you can still watch games here. This is my new regular starting spot for me and my buddies. But seriously... Don't go to the Westerville location. It is terrible.

I get a lot of anxiety when approaching situations that should have been planned for in advance. This time it was a party of 14, plus one 3 year old at 7pm on a Saturday night. And no one wanted to wait. I called a couple of other places in town that could not accommodate us (understandable). Enter Old Bag. The hostess on the phone was friendly and didn't freak out when I asked if there was room for us. She said there were some open tables and if we got there soon, we had a good shot. We walk in to a dream scenario. There was a large table for 8 and 2 others nearby, right in the main dining room. They set us up in no time at all. I honestly couldn't believe it. I wish I had caught our server's name -- he was fantastic. Everyone had different drinks, separate checks (but some people together)... we basically opened Pandora's Box of Server nightmares. Not one thing went awry. Everyone had full drinks, the correct orders and we were checked on just enough so we weren't bothered. We all had a fantastic dinner and I made a mental note to not freak out the next time a dinner situation seems hopeless. Thank you Old Bag and server man I cannot name!

I love all Old Bag of Nails locations. All of the locations have equal food quality and great service! I must say this is the best pub food around the Columbus area. I normally get the fish and chips, which is all-you-can-eat and you can order the fish either fried, blackened, or grilled. Anyway it's cooked it's very delicious and very fresh. I think it even taste better than the more upscale restaurants! I got the Gaylord's burger today and I was surprised how juicy and tasty the burger was! I asked for it to be medium and it was cooked just right. For less than $10, I think it's just as good or better than many of the $15-$20 burgers I've had. It's a must try if you're in the mood for pub food!

We had to run an errand in Hilliard and, after looking at our options, decided to stop at Old Bag of Nails. I ordered the fish and chips and my boyfriend got the fried clams. I really loved the fish and chips. The fish was cooked perfectly, and I really couldn't have wanted anything else from how it was fried. I got the thinner fries, and they were great. The cole slaw was good too. Everything was fantastic. I'm salivating just thinking about it, yummm! My only gripe is in regards to the service. Our waitress wasn't mean or rude, per se, but she was pretty blunt. She wasn't going to hold our hand or coddle us, by any means. She seemed slightly irritated. To be fair, I think she was responsible for the table of like 12 with a crying baby and several other kids next to us, so it might not have been us. Still, I kept waiting for her to look happy, and she never did. When we first walked in, we were greeted by several waiters who seemed pretty excited to be there, so it seems like we probably had a fluke experience with that. I'd be willing to try it again, especially for that delicious fish!

I'm not big on pub food, but when I'm in the mood, this is where I want to go. As a Seattle native, I can attest to the greatness of their fish and chips, which caught me off guard after all the not so great fish I have had around Columbus. I really love their nachos as well, probably the best nachos I've ever had! Sunday nights they also have fantastic chicken dumpling soup. Happy Hour prices are great, too. We've never had a bad server, they have all been incredibly friendly.

Ate mussels and had the Reuben the waitress said was so popular. I threw up all night. Does that sum it up?!? That was earlier this summer I will never eat here again. Zero stars if I could . Yuck the Reuben was dry not a quality Reuben at all. It sucked

Have not tried the food but if your looking for a place to drink this is probably not it. Unless your the kind of guy who brings a newspaper to a bar. Oh yea, and loves the radio. The place looks interesting and may offer more on a weekend. Theres a banquet room if your into throwing a huge rage, but i only saw a bunch of suits

Went to the Old Bag today in Hilliard, OH. I have been to the one in Westerville many times, but today I learned a few new things. On Wednesday they have a special on all you can eat shrimp, Grilled or Fried and they also have a special on Fish Tacos. My co-workers seem to love the Tacos. I plan to try them next time. Today I had the shrimp. It was hat and fresh and they kept them coming quickly which is important when your on a lunch hour. I was impressed with both the food and the service and I can't give the OBoN Hilliard location and higher praise than 5 stars maybe even 6.

All you can eat fish. It's the best. Fried w/ coleslaw and vinegar, or baked w/ cajun spice. You can't go wrong with this one.Only bad part is, they don't accept Scandinavians...they eat all the fish. Jk.

I wish I had as good of an experience as everyone else seemed to have here. The people I went with seemed to enjoy it but they all ordered the specialties (like the fish and chips) and I didn't... which was a big mistake on my part. The Italian sub I had they went for the grease appeal. Which isn't bad, I love greasy food from time to time but it's not a sign of good, quality, food. In fact it was really, really, bad. They forgot to add a couple of things to it like I asked. No big deal, mistakes happen, taste-wise I expected better than what i got with the amount of money they want for a sandwich. It was overpowered by a a ton of salt or seasoning. It was something I could have fixed on the stove with ease. The French Onion soup had the same problem, too much sodium! I could not believe how dry my mouth was after every bite. I really like French Onion soup and stumbling on a place that happens to have it puts a smile on my face and this was disappointing. I sent it back and got fries instead and I couldn't believe it, they must have been salted in the same manner you apply baby powder. If you do eat here don't stray too far from the specialties.

After walking in I was promptly seated in a nice roomy booth. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea which was clean tasting. I find more and more restaurants forget to wash out their tea makers nightly. Old Bag of Nails seems to always remember and I consistently get a good glass (appropriately topped off now and then). Based on the weather I wanted comfort food. This place is great when you are in that kind of mood. I wanted soup primarily and ordered their bottomless soup and salad. And yes,...salad can be comfort food when you prepare it like OBoN does with the blue cheese, bacon, and and awesome selection of dressings. I got their bacon vinaigrette which is served warm. The quality of the ingredients was top shelf and they provided the right ratios I would hope for. I enjoyed two properly prepared bowls. Now to the soup,... The reason why I went there to begin with. They have some standard soups they keep on stock but they also rotate in special soups. They day I was there I was lucky. They had their stuffed pepper soup available. That is the ultimate in comfort food and to have it in soup form is even better. It was perfectly prepared and was served at the right temperature. Another person I was with wished they had gotten it too. The service was also great. Very nice and attentive. I waited for nothing and enjoyed everything. I look forward to my next visit.

Yeah, I am definitely a fan of this place. Its been a long time since I'd been to this place. The hubby and I stopped in here over the weekend with another couple. We had the potato skins and the breaded mushrooms for an appetizer. Our food order was taken rather quickly, but the service was slow. I will give them a little slack given that it was a Friday night when we were there. Overall the food there was very good. Just parking seemed to be a problem when we were there at dinnertime.

This is your typical "Midwest Irish Pub"--a step up from a TGI Friday's but in no way authentic. We chose this location in Hilliard for proximity to a friend who was joining us. They offered cider mixed beverages. I got the cider + Blue Moon which was coined a Blue Velvet for $4 and it came in a 20 oz. Pilsner glass. I order the double cheeseburger and took advantage of the soup or salad for $2.99--ordered a cup of clam chowder (normally $4.99 on its own!) The chowder was very yummy. I approve--although it was quite thick! On the menu they claim it's housemade. With my burger, I chose onion rings as my side. I believe they are beer battered in the same mix they use on their fish and chips. The onion rings tasted a little fishy. The server was a sweet young girl who carded all of us--we're all 34+ so although flattering, it was annoying. Overall I had a nice experience here and would not hesitate visiting another location in the future.

This Old Bag of Nails is quite possibly the exception to all of the crappy experiences I have had at other locations. Sadly, this one has been around much longer than the others, which must be why it's more down to earth. The service here has always been a little bit above average... sometimes slow, but most of the time you're well taken care of. Come in the evening and you will most likely see a couple of managers walking around making sure everything is good and everyone is taken care of. I also have to say that I REALLY like the layout of this location. Most other locations I have frequented have you packed in like sardines, and accommodate very small crowds. Despite it's touting of pub like environment... it's more open. The bar is partitioned off, and the main dining has plenty of seating for families, or groups. The tall ceilings littered with playing cards give you something to amuse yourself with. All in all.. it's a nice choice of location in a beautiful old building. By the way, this location also has a banquet room for anyone hosting events. The food here is usually on par to what it is supposed to be like. I can't say I've had to send anything back, or had to complain, so that's a real plus. From fish to burgers to salads... it's all pretty decent. I wish they had better Happy hour deals. Only $2 off appetizers? Are you kidding? Bah! I'm happy with this location none-the-less... I'd be happy to call myself a regular at this location even though it's a chain. It's just got a more personal vibe to it.

The short version of my review is that I've been to The Old Bag of Nails Pub a couple times for lunch and ordered some food to-go the other night. So far I've had great experiences with the food being good and the service friendly and fast. It's a place I definitely will be going back to. Since I have not really been here when it was busy, I have been lucky enough to find street parking just outside and a little down the street. There is more parking in a lot behind the building as well, I think, based on the sign I noticed on my way in. It seems that overall, there is enough parking in the neighborhood, and that it should not be a problem unless maybe there is some event going on in the area. I will mention as well that I hardly ever have any alcoholic drinks, so this review will be mostly about the food I have had here. The first lunch I had was a Tuna Melt with Steak Fries. It was wonderfully prepared, the cheese was just the right amount of melty for me, so tasty! And the portion size was big enough that I took half home with me for later. That sandwich convinced me that I needed to eat here again! The next time I went back, I had a cup of the Clam Chowder and a Turkey Reuben. I admit that I am normally not a person who has Clam Chowder a lot, so I can't really compare it to any others , but to my mind it was fine. I did add a dash of hot sauce to spice it up a little, but that is just the way I normally like my soup. The Turkey Reuben was sublime thought! Very well done. Again, the portion size was enough that ended up taking half home with me. On my most recent visit, I had gotten off work and was wanting to just grab some quick takeout on my way home, so called them up and asked if they had the Tuna Melts available that night. They did not, but suggested a Tuna Steak sandwich instead, which I opted to have done medium. Fifteen minutes later I was leaving with what again proved to be a very nice sandwich that my cat insisted I share with her (OK, only some of the Tuna, not the Onions) when I got home. I can't say enough about how nice the staff has been each time I have visited. That, together with good portion sizes, good food, and reasonable prices, mean that I will be heading back there again!

Absolutely fantastic experience here last night. We live in the neighborhood so we visit Old Bag of Nails maybe once a month or so. Last night we got together for an "impromptu" family dinner to celebrate a birthday for one of the kids. There were 14 of us! We walked in at 6pm and there were 4 open tables. They quickly put three of them together and seated us. We had 7 kids and 7 adults. The waitress was wonderful. She split the bill for us, even accommodated my nephew who has a gluten allergy and warmed some gluten free pretzels in the microwave for us! We will definitely be back again, but I just wanted to give credit where credit was definitely due. Thanks!

I went here on a recommendation from a great server at Melt. This was one tip I am so glad I took! Amazing. I had the Irish Ruben. It was so tasty! I sat at the bar, and just had an iced tea. The bartender was just lovely. She was amazed that I was traveling alone and was searching out local places. This is one I say emphatically, do not miss this place.

I love this place. Been here many times and always enjoy whatever I get off of the menu. Prices are great and the service is almost always great, sometimes a little slow. But I do highly recommend.

I've only been here twice- both times for all you can eat shrimp Wednesday.. Both times, they have ran out of shrimp- we only were able to get one round of shrimp before they were gone. The first time we came in, the manager was kind and accommodating- she provided a few options for us and at the end of the night comp'd our meals- she was very apologetic and it caused us to bring our crew back. Tonight they ran out after one round again- a new manager made it very clear that we wouldn't be having that same deal this year- none of us came in for free food, but we definitely were expecting to get shrimp like promoted. Sadly I don't think we will be coming back to this location ever again. 0 for 2 makes me sad. I know many of these locations are managed by different people- holding on to hope that the others aren't managed like this. (In other news our server was great. She handled the stress pretty well and felt pretty bad about it.)

Solid American pub style food. Have been to multiple locations around Columbus they all are good. Decent draft beer selection and prices are reasonable.

I had one really great experience here, and one really bad one. Let's do good first: all you can eat fish and chips is amazing, I got it baked instead of fried and it was excellent. Clam chowder was great as well and beer prices are decent. Waitress that time was attentive friendly and nice the manager was rude to her though for some reason, constantly yelling at her from afar for not keeping busy when the place was dead. Now bad experience: "...... walked in with family, absolutely NO ONE waited on us, we literally stood there for 5-6 minutes. Servers and even someone who appeared to be the manager just stared made eye contact several times but would not seat us and just appeared to keep looking busy though the place was not packed. It was unbelievable, we finally walked over to a server and had them seat us and then NO ONE came to wait on us after 10 minutes, left, and haven't been back since. Management here seems poor which is a shame since the place has decent food...

Ordered my usual, the all you can eat fish and chips. Since it was Wednesday my wife ordered the all you can eat shrimp and chips. We have ordered the all you can eat shrimp and chips many times in the past and never had a problem with them running out as i seen stated in another review. We have also had the burgers a few times and have been very happy with them. We really like the BBQ sauce they use on the Gaylord's Favorite burger. Waitress was very attentive and friendly as usual. The only real drawback here is the parking. There is plenty of parking in the area but odds are your not going to park right beside the building. You may have to walk a block or so. But trust me it is worth it.

I've ALWAYS been a BIG fan of Old Bag's Happy Hour. I was a little disappointed back when they changed the appetizer prices, but that hasn't stopped me from coming. Firstly to reiterate what some others have said, the atmosphere here is very mellow and low-key. I find it to have the ambiance more of a vintage pub than most of the others. Besides their GREAT food, solid prices and super FRIENDLY staff, they have a wide variety of BEERS on tap, including Sam Adams Oktoberfest (seasonal). I recommend this Old Bag, and if you swing by, there's a chance you might see me during a happy hour.

I would have given this 4 stars in the past simply for its Gaylord's Sirloin. Best non-Filet steak I've ever had. Recently went back talking up the steak to my boys to find it no longer on the menu after being there for YEARS. Still have the NY Strip, but I like a steak with no fat and no waste. Most entrees on the menu are now fish. Still a variety of sandwiches and still good service, but my days of looking forward to a Saturday night meal at the Bag of Nails is a thing of the past. I'm not a sandwich guy and had a hard time finding a meal that I really wanted to spend money on. Won't be back. Will miss that steak.

Well to start I have been to this one a few times. Atmosphere is a little different then the others. The building is very old and very cool inside. The crowd is a mix of hipsters, regulars and I guess old Hilliard types. Anyway had the fried pickles and fish and chips. As always was very good. The batter was crisp and the fish was cooked perfectly. Very good service also. Overall it is the best fish and chips you can get in Columbus and good old fashion Pub.

Met up with a couple of friends the other night. Had the Orchard Apple cider. Wow, amazing. Met two very interesting servers/bartenders that night (Ian and Meredith). They kept entertainment for a dead bar. Quite lively. The prices are relatively decent for a bar. Everything was priced under $10. I got the soft pretzels. I was expecting a soft pretzel with a side of cheese. NOPE! I got a whopping THREE soft pretzels with a fair sized bowl of nacho cheese sauce. Was very impressed. I think the soft pretzels was $5-$8? Would definitely come here again.

This place is okay- it isn't a place I choose- but other people really seem to like it. The service is okay and the food is okay. Their portions are large and they do have a great special on Fridays during lent (it may be year round, but I've noticed it then) with unlimited fish and chips for a decent price. It has a great feel inside, like an old tavern. I do recommend the deep fried snickers for dessert!

The food here tastes nothing like the name of this establishment. I've eaten here a couple times and the food is always great. The dining area is average size, which in my eyes is not too big not too small. Old Bag of Nails Pub has a full bar with plenty of choices of draft beer and the specials are good enough to make your mouth water. I've had their french dip sandwich and it compares to nothing I've eaten. Sorry Arby's, but they are definitely giving you a run for your money by a long shot. I tried a cup of clam chowder and it exhumed so much flavor. I tried a sample of the crab bisque, and even though quite tasty it didn't compare to Nordstrom's Cafe Bistro. Our service was pretty good. The waiter was friendly but did take awhile to bring back a sandwich from a mistake done by the cooks for the person I was dining with. Overall you definitely get more bang for your buck! Which is pretty awesome.

I visited this evening with my mom, dad and brother and we had such a terrific time. I have visited this location many times for lunch and happy hour post work, but this was my parents first Old Bag experience (other than the Irish Festival) and I was so excited to see what they would think. We were immediately seated, got to choose our booth, and the hostess changed the TV channel so we could watch the Lacrosse NCAA Championships. The service was excellent, as always. Our drinks came quickly and we ordered the beer battered pickles which were amazing. My dad, brother and I ordered the endless fish and chips, my mom ordered the Cobb salad. We ate, we enjoyed, we were happy! My parents loved it! If only fried food wasn't so bad for you... :0) As far as bar food is concerned, The Old Bag of Nails Pub is: "Woohoo! As good as it gets!"

A great place for a cold beer and some solid food. If you get here before 7 pm then you can also get the beer cheap which is always good for the pocketbook. This place is located in Old Hiilliard with street parking and a lot behind the place. I usually have no problem with finding parking but I went at 6:30 and I had to drive around to find a spot within a block of the place. The pub had a 20 minute wait which wasn't too bad since I could wait outside on benches. i was shocked at how busy it was. I think it was unusual because the waitress commented on being really busy tonight. I ordered the unlimited Fish & Chips while my eating mates ordered the Rustic Burger, unlimited soup & salad, and the Club. None of us had any complaints. The fish was decent for fried fish but I remembered why I don't usually order fired fish because it is fried and a little heavy. I also had to wait a little longer for my refill of fish, but at least it was hot. The service was pretty good for being so busy. I would recommend it for Happy hour or a good place to take visitors who are picky about trying new places. It has easy to understand menus and basic food for those who don't like change.

The ambience here is fabulous with the exposed brick and wood paneling. Christmastime is wonderful, with the lights twinkling inside. All you can eat soup and salad is great! The only thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars was the summer salad I had earlier this week. The lettuce was old - to the point there were some slimy pieces. Otherwise, the food is really good!

This was my 3rd trip to a "Old Bag of Nails" in Columbus, but my first trip to this particular location. Just like the others, the fried scallops proved to be delicious! I didn't feel like fries, so I substituted some clam chowder instead, and man, it was great! Only downside was the service was painfully slow. I have had all of the fried seafood here (fish, shrimp & scallops) and it's all money. Pretty good beer selection too; I was surprised to see they had Dogfish Head 90 Min. on tap. I definitely recommend.

Situated on beautiful Main Street, this not-so-hidden gem in Old Hilliard continues to be at the top of my list for dining and drinking. There are always great beer specials, and with happy hour from 2-7 M-F, there's a pretty good chance you'll leave full of great food and beer for less than a typical sit-down lunch. Happy hour features some great drink specials, and as of this review, half-price appetizers. It's tough to beat in this part of town. Some of my favorite dishes are the boneless wings (grilled w/Sweet Baby Ray's), the nachos (they'll customize, just ask), and the Philly Cheesesteak. I'm not a seafood guy, but I've been told it's amazing. Beer snobs will be pleased with the rotating selection of craft brews. If you have kids, Sunday is your day. Kids eat free, and they'll even get a free Apple Stick dessert. This is a great deal, and a good entry point for a family that's never experienced this delectable fare. The staff is friendly and the service is great. Try to avoid the early Sunday afternoon rush by arriving around opening (noon) and avoid the happy hour crowd by arriving prior to 6PM during the week.

Not a bad place. Decent food, and atmosphere. Just I will never return to their establishment unless they remove their no CCW sign. Don't do business, with businesses that infringe on my constitutional rights period.

As far as drink prices fare, I typically drink on campus and can't quite speak to what a "good deal" on beer is at restaurants... but I had a true pint of New Castle during an early evening happy hour special for $3. So, for a classier suburban restaurant/pub, the drink prices seem very fair. There always seems to be some kind of discounted beer or half-off appetizer special going on, so I'd always recommend asking upon arrival. The waitresses are attentive, and most seem to be students or graduates from Hilliard Davidson or Darby high school. If you're dining in for a full meal, the fried fish sandwich is a great place to start. It has consistently been a tasty and largely portioned sandwich, served with fresh fries. Overall, It tastes great, and gets the job done. The environment of the restaurant/bar is warm. It's not a "bar" or "pub" in the way I think of a pub, it's classier and has a professional, community appeal. The place is always pretty busy, but I've somehow managed to beat the rush each time I've been in, often looking for faces I recognize the long lines while basking in the comforts of my booth in the main dining area. In this way, if you're a Hilliard student or community member, you'll see a lot of familiar faces at Old Bag of Nails. It seems to be the go-to spot on football game nights or other community events, but I've never felt crowded out. Good place.

Went here for the first time with my roommate and we were very impressed!! Pretty small bar/dining area, but was a nice atmosphere We happened to get there for happy hour and got a HUGE plate of chicken nachos for like 4 bucks! and i'm not kidding when i say it was a HUGE plate(could have been a meal for both of us alone!) and they were DELICIOUS! yum, i will order those every time i come here! we both ordered the unlimited soup and salad, As for the salad, it was just like any other salad. I started out with the Clam chowder which was so tasteless that i had them bring me a tomato bisque instead. The tomato bisque was to die for!! so my only advice is to not order the clam chowder!

Very good food. A few of their dishes can be on the boring side however. I had the fish plate which came with so much fish I couldn't believe it, and it was delicious, but the side was undoctored broccoli.

Had a great lunch at Old Bag of Nails yesterday. I got the Gaylord's Favorite Burger with cheddar, bacon and dripping with bbq sauce with steak fries; messy but really good. My husband got the biggest fish sandwich I've ever seen and he said it was really good also. He paid the extra $2 and got the potato pancakes instead of the steak fries. I thought that seemed steep until I tasted them--they were delicious! We told the manager they really should highlight them on the menu; they are definitely worth the price. The two sandwiches, sides and 2 sodas came out to be $26 which isn't the cheapest lunch, but will probably go back. One criticism in case management reads these: the women's restrooms needs hooks on the doors for your purse. Men might not get this, but ask a woman, it's a must!

First time I went the evil pregnancy bug struck and I didn't like it. I went back just a couple weeks ago, ordered the same thing I ordered last time (all you can eat fish and chips haha) we also ordered appetizers and a couple drinks plus the kiddo got something as well. It was good and hot, we all loved the food and drinks. We also love the fact that if the kiddie finishes their food they bring out the hot apple stick. My little one is a very picky eater first off and never finishes her food, but each time we've gone she's cleared her plate, if this only worked at home it would be great haha. Also seems like a decent place to go to get a couple drinks with some friends a quiet friendly atmosphere.

Had the Reuben, fried pickles, and a Guinness. The Reuben was perfect, but the pickles were just ok. There was something about the batter that I just didn't like. The service was a bit slow, but it was around peak dinner time so that was expected. Overall, not a bad first time - I'll definitely be coming back!

Love this bar. Comfortable with a good selection of beer and bar fare. Would recommend.

I must admit I have been a fan of Old Bag of Nails since my days living in Worthington. I am not sure if the Worthington location was the original but it will always be my original experience with the OBN. I recently visited the Hilliard location of OBN and was fondly reminded of why I fell in love with this place. Whether you order the Shaved Ribeye French Dip or the Plump Chicken Tenders you won't be disappointed. I also highly recommend the French Onion Soup although this last time it came out way to hot for human consumption and I like it hot, it keeps that cheese melting in your mouth. They are probably best know for the huge fish and chips. The wait staff was prompt, courteous and followed up with us several times during our meal. The food was brought quickly and made to order. I am normally pretty hard on restaurants but I just couldn't find that much to pick at. Our bill was $28 and it was well worth it. Well done!!!!
