Okay sushi. I came here for lunch couple of times. I love ginger and surprisingly I don't have to ask for extra because they always put enough, not like the other places. The waitress is very appealing and she is smiling all the time. But one thing I don't like about this place is a waiter, who never said a word such as thank you, please or at least something to make your experience better, consistently!

Absolutely amazing all you can eat sushi, outstanding sushi quality!

My review is strictly for the cooked food since I don't eat fish. Ironic, I know. I would have given them 4 stars, but the screwed up my order giving me salmon instead of chicken, and gave me hard time when I asked for extra chopsticks. I didn't dine in, but the food was very good. Teriyaki chicken, miso soup, and side salad were all good/average. Price was ok, I think about 9 dollars. Lunch specials for sushi looked good.

AYCE sushi and sake = super underwhelmed. I would give this place 2.5 stars, but it was closer to 2 because of the ridiculous price. My boyrfriend and I came here for the AYCE deal, and I personally was pretty disappointed. it was around $27 for AYCE, but I felt like there was WAY too much rice in the nigiri, and the fish itself was way too small. Only some of the special rolls are included in the AYCE deal, and their roll selections were kinda not that great either... one thing I noticed was that almost all their special rolls included some kind of deep fried/crunchy tempura thing, which makes me suspicious. And a lot of their AYCE special rolls dont include salmon, but almost everything had tuna in them... also suspicious. Do they just have a whole bunch of leftover tuna they want to get rid of? Their all you can drink sake deal was around $15, so it comes out to about $45 if you order both. Only my boyfriend got that deal, but our bill still came out to be around $90, which I feel was COMPLETELY NOT WORTH IT. it would have been less outrageous if it had been closer to $60. i was shocked at the price and that kind of killed the restaurant for future visits. They included the 18% gratuity in the bill even though there was only 2 of us, and a lot of the times service was suuuuper slow and the waiters/waitresses wouldnt come around for a long while. One thing that was nice was they didnt charge us for the leftover rice, but they also gave us wayyyy to much rice to begin with in all the rolls. Good AYCE sushi in manhattan is hard to find... I still haven't found one yet! the search continues...

I have to agree with Glick M...really, no taste. We did delivery as well and it looked really good but no flavor! Rice was not seasoned and no flavor from the fish, also, way too much rice on the handroll. And yes, Ashley J is right, they don't put hardly any scallion on yellowtail scallion roll. The spicy scallop roll was decent, probably because it had sauce on it. One nice touch was they gave us a nice complementary order of edamame. I'm in search of a good sushi place on UWS and just not finding one. Think best or save up and eat at Gari or Yasuda once a month!

I really, really, really like the sushi here. It's reliably delicious and they have some great creative rolls - one with peppered tuna on top and a wasabi cream that's simply fantastic. Howwwwever, the service here is really bad. Slow, unfriendly, inattentive and just lacking in general. I could easily give this place 4-5 stars if they just had a little personality. They are my go-to sushi spot and have never disappointed, food wise

I love this place. Nice environment and good staff... Their sushi is delicious and always fresh. They have fabulous special rolls... My favorite is the mars roll... And typically i have it to stay with a nice sapporo. now their takeout is annoying. every time i go in and order to go, i am waiting about twenty minutes for two rolls and the restaurant is empty. I suggest ordering on the phone in advance and then picking up. Otherwise i love this place.... Its our go to sushi spot!

Unfortunetly, central park west is not a place for fine dining, so I wasn't really expecting much. I've never been to the Kinoko place and I have no desire for AYCE. So my review is based on solely being hungry after walking around the park, and wanting something cheap other than fast food, nor the one too many pinkberries or starbucks in a 2 block radius. Me and the mom got two bento box (Salmon and Chicken teriyaki) and a beer. It wasn't the greatest, it wasn't poisonous. We were hunger, we got our bellys filled and it was under 20 bucks so I was content. The staff was very patient and nice about the pickyness of seating location with my mom. So 3.5 stars for them.

I'm a little surprised by the negative reviews of this place. While not on par with some of the big-name sushi/sashimi places in NYC, it's excellent for what it is: A dependable restaurant that you can keep in your rotation of "I don't feel like cooking - where should we go tonight?" options without breaking the bank. Of the dozen or so times I've been to Kumo, I've done the all you can eat special for all but one or two lunch visits. I think this is where Kumo shines. I shared the prevailing skepticism when I first went for their AYCE deal, but I was pleased by the freshness of the fish and the multitude of included options. Most of the rolls I would order a la carte are included in the deal, and they've never shorted me on the all-important fish/rice ratio in individual pieces. I highly recommend doing the AYCE special over a la carte dining - you can get the $30 value by loading up on the yellowtail alone (it's particularly good here). And if you're a sushi neophyte, this is a solid, safe place to try a bunch of different types and learn your preferences before venturing to higher-priced establishments.

I have to admit, I was hungry after a walk in the park. My family suggested this place saying it was a good lunch spot, so we tried it. FOOD: We ordered the Pork Katsu, Ginza roll, Shrimp Tempura roll, and the tuna and salmon sashimi. The two rolls were excellent and very tasty even without with the wasabi soy sauce. The tuna sashimi was a little stringy. The pork katsu was a little thick and dry to my tasting. I think I'd stick with the sushi rolls. For a lunch special, they have 2 maki rolls with soup or salad for $7.95. What a deal! It was very filling and very good.

Solid neighborhood sushi joint. Fish is fresh and the all you can eat option is plentiful. We go here and order form here regularly..wish they would recognize that :)

Now that Momiji is closed, this is a place to trek for AYCE sushi. For a total in the low $30s, you cannot go wrong with all you can eat sushi as long as is good quality, and this place delivers on that. It is not gourmet, but if you have the need to eat a lot of sushi then this is a good place.

    (4)
  • Shauna D.

mucho sushi for $30. They have all the standard hand and sushi rolls. The interior is nice. we have been here a bunch and the last couple of times the fish has not been as tasty. But overall, a very nice sushi place on the UWS.

I am torn between 2 or 3 stars. I never review sushi places as I am really biased. I have eaten at Daiwa & Mizutani in Tokyo that is said to have the best sushi in the world. No matter how great a sushi place is in San Fran or NY I always find a place in the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo that blows them away. I am use to the fresh fish and artistic work found in Tokyo. That being said this place was ok. The service was excellent quality of the rolls are ok The variety and selection of rolls are ok. The prices are not bad as compared to the designer chic sushi places in NY that are not really worth the price paid. If in the area I would go back again vs paying 150usd for sushi thats not to great in ohter parts of NY just because its the in spot or has a ok Shokunin.

  • Roni B.

The waitstaff is horrible!!!!! Diff prices for dine in & take out. Quality of rolls make the experience even worse. Should have stuck to my sushi staple for the past 20yrs....EMPIRE SUSHI. Oh how I wish I hadn't cheated!!! SN: Tried to give no stars!!!!

Are you a sushi snob? If so then Kumo may not be for you. The atmosphere's nothing to write home about and from the looks of it it's just a regular place. However... If you're a sushi lover than you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal. The sushi is always fresh, the service always excellent and I've never left unhappy. Never. I've been coming here for months now and can't quite figure out how they do it. But whatever they are doing, they're doing it right. Check it out yourselves.

Fresh sushi. Great lunch specials. Fair pricing. Fast delivery. LOVE sushi- and i crave it at least once a week for lunch. This place has super quick delivery and FRESH FRESH sushi. Im also a big fan of spicy mayo- and they have very very good and perfectly spicy, spicy mayo. Y2K roll (shrimp tempura and spicy tuna) is not only pretty but amazingly delicious. Absolutely recommend!

  • Scott T.

I get delivery from here a lot. The Spicy Maki combo rocks. Tons of food for about $15. When I eat at the actual restaurant, I like to get a bento box, which is one of my favorite genres of main entree in NYC. The combo of teriyaki chicken, some sort of soup, some sort of salad, some sort of sushi roll, and a few other items always ends up being the best choice at Japanese restaurants. The ginger-based dressing they give you for their house salad is a little different but I have grown to really like it. They have an all-you-can-eat sushi option here, but I am rarely in the mood to eat THAT much sushi.

    (4)
  • Rachel G.

Typically sushi lovers can handle a little saltiness, but this place is just over the top. The spicy rolls are so salty that you can hardly taste the fish! When I treat myself to sushi I rarely leave a piece on my plate, but Kumo made it easy to do that. And for a person who can eat japanese multiple times a week, I haven't had it since I ordered it from Kumo a week ago.... apparently it left a bad taste in my mouth....

  • Mary S.

Disgusting. Seriously. I love sushi and it was horrible. The staff was not attentive. I decided to do that all you can eat and they didn't make the sushi as it was supposed to be made with all the sauces, and designs - I guess because the all you can eat doesn't deserve that. Our waitress never came around to fill our waters, we had to request more water. I also never had a chance to order another roll because the waitress never came around and there was no one working there to talk to! When we went to pay I said I only wanted to pay for the two rolls I was able to order and not for the all you can eat because I wasn't able to actually order everything I wanted and they said it was my fault I didn't order the time that the waitress came to give me water and basically they were not interested in working with me. I told them I would leave them a terrible review and they had no problem with that - so here it is. I hated it, I will NEVER eat there again, and I STRONGLY recommend you don't waste your time.

Dined here on Wednesday night with a friend who comes here all the time. I was skeptical, based on the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised! Wary of all-you-can eat quality, I had the Kumo Sashimi entree while my friend went all-in. The salmon and yellowtail were particularly good, the tuna could have been better. However, I saw that the quality of my friend's all you can eat sushi was the same as mine, of course smaller pieces being sushi vs. sashimi. That was a bit of a relief and made us both feel better about the special. The space is old-school sushi restaurant and the crowd was mix of young upper west siders, mostly groups of friends and what seemed to be roommates, probably young 20's. It's not a date spot, but definitely a good midweek dinner.

Quality changes with each order. Sometimes the fish is great and fresh and sometimes pretty bland and not fresh at all. My most recent ordern was quite bad. Pricing is also weird. One time they charged me $1.00 for brown rice and charged me $0.50 the next time.

I used to love this place until i learned that despite the good prices and decent sushi, there are much better sushi places out where i live now in astoria. Also, i saw one of the sushi chefs drop cabbage onto the floor and pick it up and add it back with the rest of the food he was chopping right in front of me. i told the manager and he looked horrified, and since that day, i will not return.

  • Hal S.

Had it delivered; was fast and cheaper than average. I'm no sushi connoisseur, but it was definitely fresh and tasty. Loved the shrimp-asparagus roll, but honestly, I don't know how anyone could mess that up. Fact: One order of their edamame will last as a snack through a full episode of "House" (and it's appropriately buttery, too).

  • Jennifer S.

I ate at Kumo last night and I have to tell you I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the sushi was very good for the price. You need not compare this restaurant to the fancy sushi giants like Nobu. I would not recommend this as a date place because there really isn't any atmosphere. Kumo is when you are looking to go out for decent sushi in a low-key and casual neighborhood environment.

have been looking into this place for a while. Today I went in to have lunch. The place was sort of deserted. The hostess, no where to be found and had to wait for her for a good 5 minutes. All this time the Sushi chef has already seen me standing and waiting. I was told to sit and with a brush off given the menu. I had to wait another 3 minutes to ask a question and she could not wait to get away. As you can see, I felt very welcome. Waited another 3 minutes until I had to signal a man to come and get my order. After giving him the order and asking for water I was given the "look". Sushi came , no one asked me how it is, and the rice was on the dry side. The Sushi from the super market was better. The only time they came quickly was to hand me the check so, I can leave. This place can do a lot better if the service was a lot more descent. I should have known better since, they do not even have a nice sign outside. It has been like that for a few years. ..Tacky plastic tarp as a sign , it reflects the restaurant all around . Tacky service, DRY sushi rice ....... DO NOT GO HERE...... do yourself a favor !!!!!...... walk to the nearest grocery store the sushi is better and service is better .. they at least smile and ask if you want paper or plastic.

I stopped by for one of their lunch specials and I can re-affirm my 3 star review. I skipped the sushi and went with their cooked foods this time. The hostess/waitress was the hardest working person I've seen and deserves some accolades. Not only was she taking multiple delivery orders over the telephone but she was also waiting on 6 tables simultaneously. Still, she brought out my diet coke, miso soup and salad within a minute of me ordering. After 10 minutes, my crispy hot chicken katsu bento box arrived. The box also came with 2 small dumplings, a california roll and additional white rice. Total with tax and tip ran me $16. Solid, decent food at a full service restaurant. Cheers! N.

Good lunch deals, all you can eat deal isn't bad either. Fresh fish and very fast!

Standard and good sushi. They had a 50% off sushi and sashimi for lunch. It looks like the regular lunch deal is pretty good as well. Very good service with an attentive waiter. I also saw they have Tempura Ice Cream which is my favorite so I'll have to go back and give it a try!

Took a date here. Trust me, the all-you-can-eat sushi was her idea. I just had a hunch that the night would not end in the way I had hoped. The sushi was average, the girl was extremely fussy about her food, and I accidentally left her scarf at the table. She left the table to use the little girls' room when the bill came, which I thought was very rude even though I was going to pay anyway. She took so damn long so I figured she was dropping her own rolls into the toilet, so I grabbed her coat and bag, leaving her scarf hanging precariously on the chair, and waited outside while craving a cigarette. I don't even smoke. She didn't realize her scarf was missing until about an hour later. I apologized and offered to buy her another scarf, and she said "okay" without the slightest bit of hesitation. Luckily for me, no retail store was open at the time. We hit a bar and she paid for the drinks, so I evened out for the night. I never called her again. Anyway, back to the food. It's all-you-can-eat quality for $30+. Need I say more?

I never really liked this place even when it was called Kinoko, but they had a good all you can eat deal that my friends loved. Now, the all you can eat is back at $27 + 18% gratuity on the total with tax. I think this place is a total rip off. It's a matter of time until this place shuts down. It's always empty. I ordered the chirashi and it came with unseasoned rice?! WTF? Who serves plain white rice with sushi? It had some furikake (dry seasoning for rice) on top which is totally unheard of. To confirm, I tried some of my friend's rice from his sushi. It was the same thing. I was a little apprehensive when his all you can eat plate came. It smelled a little fishy to me which is a big no-no. The other issue with this place is that it's inconsistent. The same hand roll would be made differently if ordered at different times. The tempura roll came with eel sauce the first time, then spicy mayo, then back to the eel sauce. Head to Neo or Haru if you want sushi in the area.

I work around this Kumo and I usually get sushi delivered for lunch from here. I think their sushi quality is pretty fantastic. The shrimp tempura roll is delicious. I can't say I ever got sick either. I also have gotten their Edamame and nabayaki noodle soup. Both very good as well. I can't make comments on the staff only because I usually have the food delivered but overall, I would recommend this place.

Ironically, I've experienced better at the very same restaurant when it used to be called Kinoko. I have been out of the country for over 4 years so I haven't been to NYC too often and when I did I was usually staying downtown. Went to Kinoko and found that it had changed its name to Kumo. Judging from the quality of the food, I would imagine they had new owners. Being used to good quality all-you-can-eat sushi @ Toshi in Avon CT, on Sunday to Thursday, I was just hoping it would be as palatable as Kinoko was. Not as good as Toshi but OK. I am glad I started of my ordering very little, since they have a policy there that you have to pay extra for what you don't eat, and that's including the rice. Most all-you-can-eat places have that policy and it is logical step. Here's why: Once while at Kinoko many years ago I watched a woman continually dropping her rice into her bag, while eating the sushi, sashimi style. She had a plastic bag inside the her over sized bag; she was careful making sure that none of the chefs were watching; she was doing it surreptitiously. She didn't count on the manager who was watching from the same angle as I was. She got caught and had to pay extra for her food; he took the rice and figured out how many pieces of sushi she had. LOL. She started complaining and made a scene talking about how she was going to ruin them. The sushi bar was good then, so I took their side. Anyway, back to Kumo, they now double up on the amount of rice they put under the fish, so you will get filled up much quicker. I tried five pieces of sushi; I didn't like the way the rice was made, and I wasn't too happy with the freshness of the fish either. It wasn't bad enough to get me sick, but it didn't taste great. The rolls I ordered were like eating a roll of rice. Needless to say I didn't eat much. I asked to speak to the manager, and told him that I used to eat at Kinoko regularly when I was in town. His response was "It is the same as before. Same, same." I chuckled to myself. How many times have I heard that line in Asia when someone was trying to sell counterfeit goods, "Same, Same." To sum it up, I will not go back to Kumo. It is not the SAME!

I always order delivery from Kumo and I've tried both the sushi as well as the Soba noodle (soup or dish). I would have to say, being a huge sushi fan, the seafood here is never fresh. I recommend ordering the Chicken or Vegetable Yaki Soba. It's the best thing on the menu.

Good cheap sushi takeout. Don't write a 2 star review if you're comparing to nobu, but it is decent

I order from them all the time. Only because I live close by and they are fast. Nothing special. But it is fine and reliable. Nice lunch specials.

Fancier and better decorated than its predecessor, the beloved all-you-can-eat sushi joint, Kinoko! Not sure how this place will fare in the Upper West Side. Food was okay not great, but it's still too early to tell. I'm really bummed to have lost one of my Kinoko faves --smoky whitefish sushi handroll!

A great lunch special option for the UWS (I work just a few blocks away)...their shrimp tempura roll is delish!

Best sushi in the area. The service is excellent and the fish is so fresh. It is one of my favorite restaurants. I work in the area and I usually go there about 3 times a months.

  • Sebastian K.

For me this is the best sushi in town. Great options, a wide variety of rolls and special rolls as well, top quality fish and seafood and unbeatable prices. $14 specials that are to die for, many come with lobster! and you can order 2 special rolls for $20 for take out. Same with the regular rolls: many many choices including the crunchy lobster that is incredible, 3 rolls for $14. The top choices are: Pink lady Sweet heart Crunchy lobster Godzilla Tokyo And many more They deliver but it kind of varies in the hour, weather, mood and zodiac sign of the guy who makes the order. Don't know what happens but you have to catch them in a good day. Top quality food!

  • Soo Jin K.

Pipin' hot miso soup. Two delicious, mouth-satisfying maki rolls. Hot tea. All for $8. That's quite a deal for this area. I ordered the yellow tail with scallions and the spicy tuna roll. Within minutes, my food came. The rice was sweet and vinegary, the fish was fresh and still had that yellowtail chew. I ate my meal within minutes too. I should have ordered more food, but I was in a rush and didn't feel like sitting and eating all day. Next time, I'll order the 3 maki rolls with miso soup for $11, because I left still hungry.

Nice clean, easy to find place. I came here when it wasnt busy so there were two other groups besides myself and I ordered the all you can eat sushi meal (27.95 + 18 percent GRAT. charge). 3ds but its all you can eat so whatever. What I did not like was the very limited choices on the menu, Im used to not just sushi but also appitizers and green tea available with these kind of deals but it only had sushi. The sushi itself was great quality ESPECIALLY THE TUNA OH MY GOD. best quality I have ever had. BUT, in my opinion they were a little too generous with the avocado in the rolls rather than the fish in the rolls which i dont like. Also I think they did a poor joeb in compacting the rice for the sushi; this might seem weird but if a sushi cheif doesnt compact the shrimp well enough or if the rice is still hot/warm (which is was) then the rice is going to fall apart while you are trying to eat it. NOT FUN. But the food was good, service was alright most of the night but when I was ready for my check they took forever. Good place good sushi just not sure if worth the price.

If you are a true sushi lover of quantities, they offer All-You-Can-Eat Sushi special, and have plenty of sushi menu to select from. It is a bit pricey at $27.50 per person, but if you are super hungry for sushi, it might be worth your time and money. They look small from the outside, but has more than enough table seating at front and back, with counter seats at the sushi counter as well. The quality of sushi was surprisingly good, as I was not expecting a good quality sushi, so it was good. Read my full review of this restaurant and food at: foodlovergirl.com/kumo-s…

Been coming here since before it changed hands. There are a group of us that used to try an AYCE sushi place once a month...resonably priced and all over the city and long island. We just come here each time now. The menu is diverse and the sushi is fresh and flavorful. For those fans of all you can eat... They do not rush you or give you evil looks for continually ordering large amounts of fish and in all the years of going here, nobody has ever gotten sick. It is one of the few destinations i will take the time to travel into Manhattan for. No the atmosphere isn't of a "special occassion" quality, but the food is excellent. I highly recommend the crazy tuna roll, but just about everything is good

Cheap lunch-special sushi will always be my baby. Or at least, my maybe. Sure I have the occasional, thrilling tryst with the Nakazawas and Ichimuras and Kyubeis of the world, but those are one-night things, I promise. Like, promise promise. $8 two roll special, $11 three roll special, $15 two special roll special, thanks for taking me back every time. You are there for me, Monday through Sunday. You dont make me clean up first when I come in wearing my gym clothes. You dont mind a quick in and out thing. When I have time to stay and cuddle, and read or talk, youre down for that too. And you NEVER rush me to get out the door. You may not be the hottest stuff of my dreams, but you are my waking reality, a good lunch date, week in and week out. Those dinners come with too many strings and expectations anyway. I will always call you back, want you when Im perusing Seamless on a sick day, and return to you. No matter what. __ No seriously. When Chipotle's line is out the door, and I want a reasonably healthy 25-minute (sit-down!) lunch in the UWS 70's, this is my ticket. Theyre good about service at Kumo especially if you tell them of your time constraints, the hot tea pours freely. Every neighborhood needs a crappy, Chinese-owned sushi joint, and Kumo is one of the better ones in value and taste.

I have been coming here on and off since before it was Kumo. Back then is was named Kinoko and it was the second sushi restaurant I had eaten at and I came often for the AYCE sushi special. Over the years the quality eventually degraded and I stopped coming. The sushi was "ok". Which would be ok if it were less expensive. The fish did not seem as fresh as I have come to expect and the rice was either a different grain or perhaps slightly undercooked. With so many options in NYC I probably will not be returning anytime soon.

This is my favorite go to place for sushi in New York City. It is also the best all-you-can-eat sushi in New York City. It is fresh and mighty delicious. Did I mention it's all under $30 with tip included. The staff knows what they're doing and Gary Who makes the sushi it's amazing when I sit at the bar with my children or friends. The last time I went there I spilled some soy sauce on my shirt. I had paid my bill. I asked the waiter to get me some seltzer water and a napkin. What you did really impressed me. He opens up a can of seltzer and gives me a towel. I asked him how much I owed him and he said, nothing! I'm extremely impressed every time I come here but this time with a customer service even more impressed. Will always be coming here when I'm in the mood for sushi.

Id give this place 0 stars if I could. Please don't eat here. I'm a huge fan of sushi but not the snobby overpriced kind. I love finding deals at sushi places so figured this place was worth a shot. Love the kumo down on 14th. The sushi looked like a 12 year old put it together. Rice was falling off almost everything I ordered and shit was drenched in sauces. Plates werent washed and the entire restaurant was dirty. Please use my experience as a warning and let me save you $20. There's a reason this place has 3 stars. The staff and the sushi chefs dgaf so you shouldn't give a fuck about this place either.

The faithful kumo sushi has the precision and consistency that deserves to be noticed. Without fail I have ordered take out over 10 times from the establishment and most if not all times they have included additional freebies in my order generously, and never have I not been full after ordering their dinner special. The delivery guy is always polite, prompt and always takes the food up to my walk up. The sushi itself is of higher quality than most in the area of the upper west side as far as take out goes. The moderately priced sushi dinner (~$19) comes with 3 very large tempura shrimp, 3 pieces tempura vegetable, 6 little dumplings, 5-6 piece nigiri and a 6 piece california roll. A soup salad and rice is normally also included in the dinner box. The hand rolls/maki are priced very reasonably about 4-7$ depending what you get for a sizable 8 piece roll. You are allowed the option to have inverted maki (seaweed on outside) for either free or ~$0.50-$1 extra a long with lots of other options. Not only are you given these very specific options which other sushi places don't have, Kumo sushi also is very accurate with the order, and if you pay extra to have it a certain way you can have good faith they will make it correctly. When I have a large order the entire order is accurate to perfection, the soy sauces are bagged individually to prevent them from breaking open and the containers are ridged plastic to prevent from breaking open in transit. The cold sushi is always buffered from the warmer tempura enough so its all still freshly chilled as if just made when it gets to my door. The business pays very close attention to detail with my orders and i appreciate it.

This place is all about the quantity over the quality. Definitely accommodates large groups well, and it's a fun atmosphere if you've been drinking or plan to be drinking a lot. Don't expect anything mind-blowingly good, but that being said, I've never gotten sick eating here and do have a sensitive stomach.

The service was kinda slow. They didn't really check on you either. The food was great! The Bento Box js great! For $19 you soup, salad, 3 giant shrimp tempuras, 4 pieces of shrimp shumai, 6 pieces of sushi (california roll), and your choice of main entree I got shrimp teryiaki. We also got the rock shrimp tempura which was amazing. Great prices too.

This place is a frat party. If you are looking for good food it's not here. Prob some of the worst sushi I have ever had. Their house wine is Franzia. The sake tastes watered down. What's the positive? Why do people come here? This is where you go with a groupon when you have a table of 20. People are screaming, sake bombing, banging the tables, singing. It's a fun environment if you had a few drinks. It's not going to be fun if you're on a date or don't like loud noises.

Ordered two spicy salmon and a sweetheart roll. The spicy salmon was good, but the sweetheart was not quite fresh. I sent it back and asked for another spicy salmon and after waiting another 20 minutes was brought a plain salmon roll. I brought that to there attention and the waitresses response was "the probably ran out of spicy salmon".. they did take the roll off the bill and that is the only reason for the second star.

Great place to order sushi out! Always fresh and delicious. Would highly recommend. Sushi dinner is great to share.

I feel bad to leave a bad review....but I hope they can use it to improve!! My wife and I both ordered Suki Yaki soup. It came with a basic salad which barely touched. The soup was a big letdown. My wife said it wasn't even Suki Yaki and couldn't eat it and had to return it. Mine was hardly edible either as the beef was completely dried out and it was a strange flavor but I ate it anyways. She ended up having a shrimp tempura roll instead Which she ate... The waiter was nice however they still charged is $4 on the bill for the tiny salad which had been included on be soup which she couldn't eat. Def not worth $4 on its own and kind of annoying. We only came because we couldn't get a reservation at Sushi Yasaka and am sad to say we likely won't return unless they redo the whole place!

Oh Man! Oh Man! Can I just say 3 words? SHRIMP TEMPURA ROLL. Yes it's just a roll but oh my, what a roll it is. It's everything it should be and nothing it shouldn't. I can't account for anything else because I've never had anything else and probably won't. Just order it, you can thank me later :)

I didn't get the all you can eat sushi, because you can't get sashimi and they charge you if you don't eat the rice. I didn't think I could eat enough to make it worth the price and the deal didn't include all the kinds of sushi that I like. I got a couple of hand rolls and sashimi squid, red clam, some uni, soup - a couple of other things (can't remember now). The sushi was average to good. The service was a little cold and unwelcoming. All in all, everything was fine - nothing was bad, nothing blew my mind. This is like most of the NYC sushi joints - a middle of the road experience.

Probably a better place to call for delivery instead of actually eating in the restaurant. There was nothing special or fun about sitting in this restaurant. There was no music playing, it just felt like a very low energy boring place to go to. I went for dinner with my cousin to this place on a Sunday evening. It was really bright and awkwardly quiet. The setting was a big turn off. It felt more like a take out place that happen to have some tables. The ambience also very dull. I had to ask the waiter if he can turn some music on and when he did it was super low volume and weird fairy tale songs played. On to the sushi...it was affordable and decent but nothing to rave about.

Kumo Sushi is just like any average sushi bar in New York. The prices aren't bad, but you do get for what you pay for: small portions and bad service. If you're in the area looking for a quick bite though, I would recommend it.

The lunch special is an awesome deal! Just $7.95 plus tip for some hearty Vegetable Udon and soup. The food isn't mind-blowing, but it fills you up and service is fast. My only complaint is that like many other stir-fried noodles, the udon made me extremely thirsty for the rest of the afternoon (yay sodium heavy Asian food!), but that's not unique to Kumo. Solid spot for a quick, affordable lunch.

Even for All You Can Eat, this sushi is pretty bad. After just coming back from a two week vacation to Japan, this is more like a 0-star compared to the ridiculously good sushi I had there, but I'll cut them some slack and rate it relative to some of the other AYCE joints in NYC. The sushi probably just isn't very fresh here, which accounts for the tastelessness and off texture of all of the pieces. Even the special rolls, which these places usually use to hide behind the poor quality fish they serve with tons of eel sauce and mayo, were pretty flavorless. Most of the special rolls that seem like they might actually taste good are of course excluded from the AYCE menu. At $28, this is a decent deal if you just want to get sick off very mediocre sushi. But if you want to have a really satisfying meal, at a much lower price of just $21, hop on the cross-town bus and head over to Yuka at 81st and 2nd for one of the best AYCE places in both quality and price.

Three days old rice doesn't fly with sushi. The sashimi pieces were so tiny and not fresh. The Chirashi bowl was more like a big bowl of old rice with a few pieces of tuna, salmon, and tamago (egg). Chirashi should have an assortment of different sashimi pieces. Wouldn't come back.

Yes, I am sure there are more luxurious Japanese restaurants around. But I like this UWS mainstay which has been around for years for their everyday affordable lunch special and the ability to sit at a table and look out the window on a Sunday afternoon. Four stars.

UNLIMITED SUSHI! What more can you ask for?? Reasonably priced so long as you eat 3 special rolls. The Y2K roll is a must!

The $35 all you can eat sushi is terrible, the place doesn't look clean and the rice is so big that the fish can't even cover it. We came here bc the wait at sushi yasaka is way too long, but gosh, bad decision!

Very bad sashimi. Cuts are too thick. It takes an effort to chew down every single piece of fish. Quality is very low and the service is unattentive.

The sushi is delicious and reasonably priced. The service wasn't bad when I came but there weren't many people either. I've ordered delivery from here too and it's delicious and quick.

Not bad at all. The lunch special isn't bad. For $7.95, you get 2 rolls and a soup or salad. The sushi came out fast and tasted fresh. The menu is very confusing. There are lots to choose from and it's not really clear. I'd just stick with the paper takeout menu. It's a lot easier to choose from. Don't let the "B' in the window scare you away. Thumbs up from me...

Great value for AYCE if you are looking to fill your stomach. If you are looking for gourmet sushi, this probably isn't the place to be. They offer your traditional selection of rolls and nigiri, and they are rather quick with their service. Portions are nice for the rolls, but the nigiri packed a little bit too much rice. In terms of freshness, I would deem this place mediocre for Manhattan standards but AYCE and a group full of boys makes this a good value.

Their sushi specials are a great deal! I don't think you can get them online, but it's on their take out menu. I usually go pick it up so I don't know if you can get the special for delivery. My favorite roll is their mushroom and avocado roll, Chilean Sea Bass roll, and Spider Roll. There's a variety to choose from for their special.

I really enjoy Kumo's food. The Cali rolls, fried rice, and ice cream mochi are my favorites. You must try the miso soup too; it is delicious!! Service is a bit slow, even when not crowded...I will never understand that logic about restaurants. However, if that's their biggest flaw, I'll take it! Great lunch for a reasonable price? Who says you can't get that in the city?

Late night at the office so dropped $30 on the sushi/sashimi combo and a seaweed salad for delivery. Delivery time was reasonable and I was pretty excited with the quantity and sizes of the sashimi. The sashimi was pretty good -- fresh and flavorful. Rolls were not exceptional and the rice for the sushi was a little bit on the scant side (although I prefer less over too much). The seaweed salad was good but I was so stuffed w/ the combo that I saved the seaweed salad and complimentary green salad for tomorrow. Overall, nothing to complain about (so far) and felt like the correlation between the price of the takeout and the quantity and quality of what I got was just right. I will likely order from them again!

My co-worker ordered a bento box but didn't want her California roll or her gyoza pork dumplings, so she gave them to me. Both ended up being really tasty. I am wary of ordering myself considering the reviews, but I know they've ordered here previously with good results, and the bento box is a nice deal, so we'll see if I feel brave enough to spend my own money on the food here one day!

Noooo. I didn't like this place at all ! The tempura has NO FLAVOR. None. and way to much batter. the sauce on the side also has ZERO flavor. One of the worst dishes I've ever had. Sushi.... Well, I ate there a few hours ago and I don't feel so well, so that sucks. The yellowtail scallion roll, needed more scallion, otherwise it was just OK. The one w/ shrimp and egg was really bad. The one saving grace was that the cooked salmon roll was pretty good. While we looked over the menu (which is confusing and weird, and doesn't have many options), we had to ask for water. The waiter had no personality, we had to ask for our check when we had been done for a while. And no fortune cookies....sad. I would NEVER come back here.

The rating system is specific in the feeling you get when you eat the food. I was thinking of giving this place 2 stars but "I've had better" would be a compliment when I ordered sushi from here. I received extra roll for free (a california roll) by free, which would have been amazing if all the rolls were not so bad to begin with. I was not able to finish 2 rolls and barely got through the ones I ate because the rice and seaweed were so stale. The 3 stars for this place is a good forewarning, I should have listened to the advice of other yelp readers.

I have been a loyal customer of Kumo Sushi for over 2 years until today. For the last six months, the service has sharply declined. From giving me the wrong order to forgetting a part of the order to the delivery man showing up with no cash to give change, Kumo is horrible. What makes it worse is when I called up to let them know what happens - no one cares and nothing is done to fix the situation. You think after ordering here almost every week for the last 2 years would be enough for them to appreciate my business but it's not. I'm NEVER getting sushi from here again.

this place is the shit. 27.95 ayce sushi is sort of on the expensive side, but i ate over $60 worth of sushi. you can get all the $12+ rolls and $3 sushi pieces in the deal. the 10 pieces of sushi i ordered alone covered the $27.95 cost. anyone who said this place wasnt good is a snob. if you wanna pay 50 bucks for three rolls at the expensive place be my guest, but i aint rich and i got a big appetite. i like this place cuz i can go in for dinner, eat 60 pieces of sushi and not feel like i was raped. the bad reviewers complain about the rice and no wifi. get a life.

What terrible service. They had no WiFi, I ordered the all-you-can eat ($29) and a beer, the food came in and it was barely decent. A friend of mine walks in, he already had dinner, I had him taste ONE PIECE of my sushi, the manager came to me to complain that he'd have to pay for that. After my initial shock and bewilderment, I wanted to get out of there asked for the bill. They charged me 20% more because of that with a compulsory tip, and I ended up paying close to $50 for a meal. You bloody idiots, you just lost a customer for life.

I did not like it here! To begin with, the inside looks nice enough but there's no AC! It was extremely uncomfortable and hot. And to attempt to solve this problem, the restaurant decided to leave open a "back door" to what looked to be a gross alleyway. This type of decision is how rodents enter restaurants... The sashimi was either bland or actively bad. You can only pretend to justify eating this fish if you're eating a sushi roll, that way you don't have to see its ugliness. The waitress was the opposite of attentive: she took forever to take our order and even longer to bring our check when we were done with our meal. In fact, she took so long to bring the check we awkwardly walked over to the counter where she rang up our order. Gross.

Being new to the area I haven been trying to find some great spots for lunch. Walked by this place a couple of times so I decided to give it a shot. Walked in and was quickly greeted, then brought to a table. Ordered their salmon teriyaki and a roll. The service was nice, and the food was ok. Nothing great, and nothing worth going back for. Something that did catch my eye however was their all-you-can-eat option, but there was no way I was going to do that for my lunch. That alone might be worth coming back to try. If I do, I'll let you know how it goes ;).

Kumo Sushi is a ho-hum average sushi place on West 72nd street near Broadway. It is like many others, small, dimly lit, typical menu, etc. However, they do have one very unique item.... brown rice sushi rolls. My wife gave up white flour, refined sugar and white rice and it is really hard to find a sushi place that will do brown rice rolls. It is sort of like finding a pizza place that does whole wheat crust pizza....very hard to find. I don't eat fish, so I eat their steak teriyaki when I go. It is tender and quite tasty. Kumo also delivers, which is good if you live in the UWS
