This place is a typical ordinary good ole diner. Nowadays, It's hard to find a classic diner that makes you feel at home. Came here with my friends, service was great and fast. I ordered 2 eggs, homefries, and sausage. The white toast was not too burnt but toasty enough. The homefries was so good. Everything else was delicious as well. I will definitely come here more often with my friends since it's walking distance from my house :)

I always walk by this restaurant and finally decided to give it a try. It was about 2:30pm and not many people there which is nice since we didn't have to wait for a table. I ordered the french toast with sausage and my bf ordered the gyro platter. The french toast was good but nothing spectacular that you can't get anywhere else. The gyro platter was really good. It also comes with awesome fries. Something about the fries are REALLY GOOD! I like that breakfast is all day long, sometimes you just get that crazing so it's nice to have somewhere nearby to go to. I'll come back again and check out their other food options.

I ordered on grubhub my order was wrong and delivery took over an hour to come for 2 breakfast plates.

It's important to note, as a previous reviewer did, that this place is cash only. *Now accept credit cards* With that out of the way, the food here was great. I love the burgers and fries *quality of fries took a hit, they stopped double frying them I think..*, I like to get it medium and they do a great job of cooking it the way I like it. My boyfriend really loved the Reuben sandwich, the cheese, meat and sauerkraut were melted onto the toast and looked really good. We come here almost every week, sometimes by ourselves, sometimes with our friends for a quick and casual meal. Our order is always correct and comes out pretty quickly.

Let's just get some ground rules out of the way, ok? 1. Do not ignore me when I walk in the door. I shouldn't have to resort to 'excuse me' in an empty diner. 2. Do not make me wait and/or ask for water. I get cranky when I'm thirsty. Other then the above not bad at all. Fresh made fruit salad, yummy omelets and very cheap. The service is kind of surly (hungover?)

I'm going to start this review off by saying I feel offended by the staff of this restaurant. Despite the great food and service, this place will most likely rip you off. The Hispanic man who worked here tried to tell my friends and I that we were short by a couple of dollars after I handed the money to pay the bill. Our total was $44.95 and we paid $48. We were trying to be generous by tipping our waitress $3. It isn't much but that's the most we can offer because we're all unemployed. After handing the money to the man, he gave me back $3 which I assumed was the change. Upon receiving the money, I tried handing it to the waitress but they both had an odd look on their face. I was confused and so were they. My friends at that moment were unaware of this situation and thought I was paying the bill without any problems. The man behind the counter told me we were short by $1.95 which immediately confused me. But then I came to the realization that the man was trying to rip us off. I don't mind paying an extra $1.95 but I do mind getting ripped off and played like a fool. I discussed the problem with my friends and they were confused as well. They all counted the money and said it was $48. I went back to the counter to tell the man but he still told us we were short by $1.95. Still in the state of confusion, I went back to my friends and told them again. At this point, they all stood up and we confronted the man together. It was clear that he was trying to rip us off because he immediately dropped the $3 and said "Have a nice day" once all the customer's attention was drawn to us. Being nice, I dropped the money on our table for the respectful waitress who served us. I don't understand his reason for trying to rip us off. Perhaps it's because we were a group of friends? Or possibly a racial issue? Three of out of the five of us come here regularly. Another problem we had at this establishment was the food. It was delicious but the man who prepared it is an imbecile. All five of us ordered the "Superman" which consists of 1 pancake, 1 French toast, eggs, two strips of bacon, 1 sausage, and 1 thin slice of fine ham. I, however, didn't read the description of the meal and had no idea we all get one sausage. When the waitress brought us our food, I saw two sausages on my plate which I thought was normal since this was my first time ordering this meal. I assumed everyone got two sausages and I didn't bother looking at their food. Although, my friend was given no sausages at all. The waitress went to the man who prepared our food and told him about the missing sausage. He explained in a low tone that he purposely put two sausages in one plate which made me furious. How idiotic can you possibly be to intentionally put two sausages in one plate when you know each plate only gets one. It's common sense and simple math. I am certain a toddler would know which food belongs to which plate if it were given the task. I kindly gave the sausage to my friend after that. Don't expect us to return again.

Wholesome old neighborhood diner food. Great service. Highly recommended. Breakfast is a real good deal. Bring your appetite and an empty stomach.

The food is homemade and delicious. Most of the time they make you feel welcome. The service is lacking, but I recommend the food.

I have been eating here for 15 years, and have found the food to be superb. The Brisket is tasty and very tender. The Chicken Marsala and Franchese rival the best Italian Restaurant. The portions are plentiful, while the prices are reasonable The servers are very friendly For Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, you can't go wrong I call SPIRO'S the CHEERS of AVENUE U.

Old School diner. I come there about 3x a week after going to gym for mozzarella egg white omelette with fries (yes I work out and have fries but the fries are that good). The staff know me and start my order before I sit down ( I guess I've become predictable) Other diners may be bigger and have more to offer but the staff are kind and the food is solid. Decent prices $7.45 for my usual above that comes with coffee, juice, and toast ( I have wheat to be little healther).

A nice diner place near my neighborhood, pretty decent service. The place has an old-schoolsque feeling to it. Came here with my girlfriend for a casual date, she ordered the mushroom burger and I got cheeseburger deluxe. It was an OK meal, my GF said the mushroom burger was good though. Paid around 20 total.

$5.99 for an individual orange juice box that is crazy!! This food is so expensive and just not worth it . We only order from this place when we are at our lowest lows of a hangover and do not want to stand in front of a stove. Bacon egg n cheese sandwich has 2 slices of cheap hard bacon and you are left asking, why is life so hard? Save your money and just eat your shoe ..

Spiro's is a quiet little diner with good food and great service. Their portions are plentiful and the value is good. They open early but they also close at 8pm. Its not a place for late night eats which is a shame, since the area is sorely missing late night dining for those of us who work long hours and don't get home until pretty late.

The diner is OK, pretty ordinary. All I can really say is, is that's it your typical diner. The good thing about them is, is that the service is quick and consistent.

Honestly I recommend them for a great value breakfast and simple meals the rest of the day the big mess omelette is my favorite the food will not win the raves but the old fashioned comfy atmosphere will. I got hit hard by Sandy and going in there after a night volunteering at the shelters or going in the mornings from my house without heat the place just felt like a big hug the older gentleman there chipped in when his staff could not get to work and he was just wonderful sweat people and friendly regulars wish I had the time to have breakfast there everyday

Consistently average. Not bad, not great. The service is fast, the place is tiny, the portions are smallish when considering its diner style. And they don't take credit cards. I come here once in a blue moon.

It is open from 6am to 8pm. Their food, service and environment is very classic and in old fashion. I just wish my grandpa colud be as healthy and happy as those 2 old men, the owner and the cook.

Same thing happened to me with the water. I was half finished with the meal when I needed water. Had to ask. Had brisket and it tasted homemade. The fries were pretty good too. I think the portions were a little smaller than usual at a place like this. Chicken noodle soup tasted homemade as well. Most tables were full while I was there at 10:45 AM for an early lunch.

David S., I'm glad that you had a good experience at Spiros but I was there a couple years ago and haven't been back. I didn't get to sample anything except maybe the water, because my menu came with a dead roach stuck between the pages, and I left immediately. Bummer.

Went with my girlfriend for breakfast. Prices are just right and everything was cooked just as we ordered it. This was just as expected, as, when I told my mom we were going there, she commented, "Good place. They're cheap and the food is good." Thanks mom, for your non-Yelped review which sent me in the right direction.

Funny thing is that I grew up in the neighborhood (moved away 25 years ago, but my mom still lives nearby), and never went to Spiros until recently. Food is quite good for coffee shop fare. Delicious omelette (egg white, bacon, swiss cheese, onions and mushrooms) and fries. Fries were addictive. Mom and sis had the brisket that was lean but very soft and flavorful. Excellent cheesecake. Service is very friendly and attentive (thank you Maria and Tony). Cash only. Restaurant is clean and well maintained (received an "A" rating).
