It's between the Mill and DeMatteos when it comes to what constitutes the nicest bars in Rome--they also happen to be right across the street from each other. The Mill has an excellent selection of beer on tap, a friendly staff and management, and an excellent selection of what is essentially bar food. If you're new to the area or just passing through, this is the bar to stop off at.

For a small city, Rome certainly lacks its sports bars and a night life. The Mill seems to accommodate both of those problems. People of all ages go to The Mill. On a Friday night, you could find to people between 21-30 years old and on a Wednesday you could find to people between 30-60 years old. The beer prices are very adorable ($2.50-3.50 per draft). The chicken riggies are really good here! And you can order a half or a full order of them. It's not the visually, nicest place in Rome but it draws the people together. They have 2 pool tables and 2 dart boards for an added bonus.

This is one of the nicer bars in Rome since most of the others are pretty much all dive bars... It is mostly clean, has an okay atmosphere, drinks are fairly reasonably priced, but the last time we went the bartender was really rude to us. We were going to try to order food but then she ignored us the rest of the night and catered to a party at the end of the bar who were obviously her friends. Needless to say it turned our $30+ check to a $10 and we left after one drink. I think the bar is probably just understaffed, because there was only one bartender working (during happy hour!) and she seemed really flustered. I think there was someone in the kitchen and when we cluelessly asked him how to order food he told us we need to put it in with the bartender who was ignoring us. Anyways, the experience was kind of unwelcoming so I don't think we're going to go back again.

This was my first time in Rome and someone mentioned we should try this place. So, we did. When we walked in I immediately wanted to walk out... It had a shady vibe. Reminded me of where criminals would go after a long day of kidnapping. We sat and our waitress/bartender was very nice. The chicken riggies (hot ended up being not very hot at all) were delicious. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. And I didn't end up chopped up in someones freezer, so that's always a plus. I would go again. :)

Negatives: The staff. The overly loud live music. Positives: The food, if you get it. The beer. So this place suffers from the same schizophrenia common to lots of small watering holes: It thinks it's a band stand, a bar, a pub, and is filled with townies from end to end on the busy nights. I would give it a higher rating, but the attempts to mirror a pub are laughable. Nothing worse than eating and having some jackass one-man-band blaring best-of-the-90s eight feet away. The staff just ignore people and carry on long-winded conversations.

By far best bar in town. I tried a lot of them out and it seemed this was the only place that I was not in fear of getting stabbed in the back and tossed in a dumpster.

The mill tries to be a good bar. However it is filled With a terrible Walt staff and is badly managed. I wouldn't recommend this poor establishment to my poorest enemy. Unless you want an awful meal.
