I bought one of the very interesting marshmallow sticks from here along with some cheese and other gourmet items. Very boutique like and I liked the choices of gourmet products. Like last time, the staff is nice :-)

I read other reviews-- they're pretty accurate. So I'll keep mine to the point. Products are all great; rare finds in Forest Hills. It's nice to see little shops like these revamp this neighborhood. Service is horrible. "The Beer Guy" seems to know a lot about his selection of beverages, but he's awfully condescending and lacks the ability to empathize with his customers. There are plenty of thriving beverage experts in NYC who are more service-oriented; I don't see the necessity on this business relying entirely on this one so-called "connoisseur." I used to come here all the time, but I think I'll take my business elsewhere.

Beautiful shop and very sweet and helpful staff! Almost like Bedford Cheese shop with an Italian twist! They carry a huge selection of cheese, beer, gourmet crackers, and imported vinegars, oils, etc. My favorite find here so far is probably the olives though- addicting!

it is very exciting when we have new store opening up on Austen st other then bank or hair salon. Very tastefully executed renovation certainly what made me extra curious. for the size of the store very well organized variety of products, friendly staff. We had few people over so i had reason to get good variety of things... I did not wanted to buy any Boar's Head stuff so asked for something more unique and i got Serrano Ham for $76 p/lb what seemed to me a bit pricey... it was good but don't think it worth the money... olives @ $11p/lb not better then what cheese world or natural sell for $8. beer more expensive and not much better of selection then natural. i did not really wait to be serviced but the entire checkout and packaging took forever... i was ready to shoot myself watching him carefully slicing 1lb of serrano ham... and after all I realized that they forgot to bag one of the cold cuts that I paid for... will i go there again? maybe but not soon.

went back for more stuff: got dried cranberries at $3.39 a pound dried papaya at $2.19 a pound trail mix at $3.29 a pound salted sunflower seeds at $2.69 a pound. everything fresh. they also have italian imported soda and fancy chocolates.

If I could move next door my life would be complete..great staff and great cheeses meats and good selections of beer. Thank god this place opened.

Went with two friends to check out beer selection and cheese. Great beer and helpful service. Gourmet cheese looks good, but sandwich case has Boar's Head cheese and meat. WTF?! Think I'll stick with Cheese of the World down the street. We don't go to specialty shops for Boar's Head! Yucccccccckkkkk. Save your money!

Both this place and the wine shop have the worst service ever. Since I live a few blocks away, I keep trying to give these places another chance but always regret it. You are mostly always ignored when you walk in and eventually greeted by a rude staff. The selection of meats and cheeses is nothing worth noting and more expensive than other places. Tonight I stopped in at 7:30pm, after working all day, to get some cheeses and olives for a holiday party, and was ignored for 5 minutes while I stood at the cheese counter before I was asked to leave because they were closing soon. How incredibly rude. I understand if you're closing early for a holiday but how do you let a customer stand there for that long without acknowledging them before telling them you won't serve them? Had many similar experiences at the wine store as well, rude employees ignoring you or yelling at other employees while customers wait. My plan for the night was to stop at the wine shop after, but needless to say neither of these places will get my business again. Much rather go out of my way to a decent store that appreciates their customers. In fact, after I left, I tried a new place - Q's KraftBier and had an awesome shopping experience with a very pleasant and enthusiastic staff. Will definitely be going back there next time I need cheese & meat.

My 91 year old Philly born Italian Mom lives a block or so away from Mr. Vino's. She LOVES gorgonzola cheese, with garlic bagel chips and fresh grapes. Whenever I stop by their store, they are very friendly. I often get a small sliver for my 'live alone' parent..they don't push me to spend more than I want. They take their time, chatting, and making sure my order, whatever I decide to purchase, is wrapped and bagged - with a smile!

They have an amazing beer selection. You know a place is special when you walk in, look at the beers and couldn't not recognize 75% of them. The front staff was very helpful and had detailed information about every beer I pointed to. If you need ammo for a charcuterie massacre then this is your place to go.....................wait what? Anyhoo its a sister store to Mr Vino which is around the corner. They also have wine tastings inside Mr Vino. So check out both locations when you go. If you need expensive ingredients and spreads Mr Vino Cucina has it all. Was tempted to buy some truffle oil butter but knowing the idiots in my house they will gank it before I have time to put it on my microwave popcorn. They have everything like I said including a pretty awesome cheese selection. The guy behind the counter who's name we did not get has a thick accent but take care of you if you are not sure what to get. I picked up some manchego cheese and fresh smoked ham to make a sandwich. I don't care. Its about to be the best $20 ingredient cost sandwich ever. They had a chipotle smoked spread which might of worked on that sandwich but I didn't pick it up. They also have homemade salami and the usual selection of cold cuts for charcuterie. There are about 10 different types of infused prosciutto which I didn't try but I will next time I go. This place is awesome and staff is very friendly. Highly suggest you go.

a solid new addition to Austin Street, Mr. Vino's Cucina is a tiny shop with a reasonably-sized inventory of gourmet/imported goods for your kitchen. and yes, they are the same people who run the adjoined liquor store (accessible via a passage in the back). they've got an impressive array of jams, oils, syrups, chocolates, pasta, cheeses, cold cuts, and most importantly BEER! I was quite glad with this - while Forest Hills' supermarkets and delis usually do have pretty good beer selections, it's tougher to find single bottles of craft and import brews. one of the friendly staffers came over to talk to me about various beers they had and made some recommendations. he seemed to know his stuff regarding beer, and wasn't pushy. I ended up purchasing two bottles of different IPAs, and enjoyed them both. the prices are a little high for some products, but not that bad. also, consider the following and I think it's justified: (1) you're coming here to buy higher-quality products anyway. (2) Austin Street rents are ridiculous for small businesses. (3) it's not another damned bank kiosk, pharmacy, or hair salon. they also have pre-made as well as customizable gift baskets. it's good to see a small business succeeding here and adding to the continually-improving atmosphere of Forest Hills. props to Mr. Vino for expanding into a much-needed niche here.

Good selection of products, good customer service, knowledgeable and friendly staff, but WAY too expensive. The value is not there. For that reason only gave 2 stars. Natural on the corner of Ascan and Austin, just a few blocks away, seems to have the same things at better prices.

Nice customer service and nice selection of products but most important BEER selection. And don't forget to talk to Mr. Beer Guy he seems to know everything about every bottle.

Finally a wine, cheese, and charcuterie shop in the area with friendly service! Yes, CotW, I'm talking about you. While the aforementioned shop may be less in price, you get what you pay for at Mr. Vino's Cucina. Service - You're always greeted with a friendly face and smile. The staff is always eager to assist, answer any questions you have, provide suggestions... basically, be of service. Food - There's always free samples of some sort. Chocolate, crackers, snacks, cheese, meat! I love the vast selection of cheese and charcuterie they offer. There's also marinated veggies (mushrooms, olives, stuffed olives, peppers, etc), smoked fish, various oils, pasta, and seasoning. Alcohol - Because Mr. Vino's (the wine shop) is right around the corner, the Cucina carries the next best thing: craft beer. It's here where I was introduced to Maine Beer Company. If you like Troegs Nugget Nectar, try Maine's amber ale "Zoe". Perfect with some jamon iberico and saucisson. I only go to Cucina now for my charcuterie and cheese craving. Luckily these cravings occurs only once in awhile because I would go broke if i am here every week!

This place is a great addition to Forest Hills. I've been here several times already and have had a great experience every time. The store employees are friendly and extremely helpful. The employees are very knowledgeable about the products they offer and share this knowledge with their customers to assist in their purchases. I've left this store on each occasion with much more than I intended to buy but have never made a bad purchase. On each occasion, I wasn't sure what type of cured meats I wanted so Roberto would slice up a few different options for me to try so I could narrow down my choices. He also did the same with the cheese selection. He has an obvious love for his job as well as for this shop which shows in the way he interacts with everyone in the store. I highly recommend that anyone who likes cheese and cured meat to stop by and check out this store for themselves. I know I'll be stopping by here often!

I LOVE this place! I find myself coming in here every couple of days for either a new cheese, or new crackers, or some sliced fish. Everything is fresh and just a really nice addition to the neighborhood. I would've given it 5 stars except there that one of their employees I find to be pretty arrogant in his personality, which makes the experience less than desirable at times.

  • Pat C.

This shop has a pretty good selection of craft beer, as well as charcuterie, cheese, & other specialty items. The beer prices are competitive, perhaps slightly on the expensive side. The 1 guy who works there is more than a bit overzealous & quite loquacious about beers. It almost seems he has an inferiority complex & tries to convince the customer that his store has an adequate selection. Long story short, there is no long story short with this guy. I look to see if he's working when I walk by & generally avoid the place if he's there.

A quality, specialty food store is very tough to find in forest hills. A place like this was needed so badly in the neighborhood. The store has a great modern decor and gives off a quality impression. I am definitely a fan of stores that put effort into their appearance. They specialize in all of the good things life has to offer - craft beer, cheese, meats etc. I personally have found their customer service to be great. They are very knowledgeable about their products and there is one person that is extremely well versed in craft beer. I agree that he could be alittle pushy, but I think it stems from passion, which is a good thing. Over the quality of all of their products is top notch. Yes, the it can get alittle pricey, but in the end it is definitely worth it. Hoping the high bar they set will inspire other businesses in the neighborhood to do the same.

I could not wait for this place to open as I am a big fan of wine and cheese night, which appropriately correlates to Mr.Vino and now Mr.Vino's Cucina. I stopped by here to pick up a few things for just that, and I was highly impressed. I could immediately tell that the quality of their products was both high and unique. They do not carry and generic products, there seems to be thought involved in stocking the shelves. They have a multitude of fresh cheese's and I personally did not find them to be that pricey. I got a large piece of smoked gouda for less than 5 dollars and similar with a piece of brie. I am sure there are more expensive options however this seemed reasonable to me. I also selected some precut salami bites that they had both in a sweet and spicy option. Lastly I opted for some of their olives from the olive bar which had quite a bit of choices. As I was paying for my order one of the employees, could have been the owner but I'm not positive, just finished up a conversation with another patron to which he was describing how they are more than willing to order any item that people request, as he he offered me a large godiva chocolate bar and said it was on the house. It was such a nice touch, as it was my first trip to the store it left a really nice first impression and something he certainly didn't have to do. Lastly, to comment on the taste of the food, everything that I purchased was delicious and a big hit. It tasted fresh and wonderful! I look forward to going back there for sure. I wish they had a seating area to make it more of a cafe feel but I enjoy it highly nonetheless.

4 words. Jamon iberico de bellota! AND, they slice it by hand unlike Cheese of the World which commits a huge crime by slicing it thin with the machine like prosciutto. I wish Cucina would also slice jamon serrano by hand, but one can only dream. Cucina has a small but decent cheese selection, a very extensive beer selection and some cool little gourmet food items. This is definitely a very nice addition to the neighborhood but not so nice for my wallet each time I buy jamon iberico.

WOW! It's as if Dean & DeLuca's cheese shop moved to Forest Hills. The staff is very attentive and helpful and basically, you could take a culinary trip around the world given the enormous cheese selection they have! If you're into craft beets, ask Mr. Isaac, he's a walking encyclopedia in this area, and a super nice guy. This small shop is BEAUTIFULLY designed. I only wish they had one tiny table in the back so that I could've enjoyed a custom-made cheese plate on the spot! I used to be a food writer for the James Beard Foundation so trust me when I say, go here, and try something different each week and enjoy with friends or, alone, on a rainy night, with a glass of pinot noir before you treat yourself to a bubble bath while listening to Nat King Cole, or, Pink Floyd. Enjoy life. A+

What a great specialty deli! Owners/workers are knowledgable of all products and super friendly. Love getting fresh mozzarella and prosciutto di parma from here as well as some nice hoppy IPA beers. They have a variety of beers as well as cheeses, meats and specialty spreads and pastas. Might be seen as a bit pricey but you get what you pay for and everything is fresh and delicious! Great add to the neighborhood!

FINALLY this place opens. But I thought it was going to be more like a small food place. It's nice though they have a high quality selection of cheeses, oils, some beer, chocolates, etc. Downside? Way overpriced. I saw things marked up for no reason. I saw cheese for $7 that goes for $4.50 at the Natural Store 2 blocks away. I saw smoked salmon for $23 a pound that goes for $16 a pound for the same product at grocery stores nearby. Not only that the owner or manager was talking to his employee like an absolute A-Hole when I was in the store. If you want to be a jerk to your employee it's one thing, but have the situational awareness to know a customer is in your presence.

    (2)
  • Joe W.

This place is the worst on prices. Stay with cheeses of the world for a far better selection at much better prices down the block. Not to mention the owner of this establishment is notorious for over charging for everything from this store to his cohens optical store and mr. Vinos liquor store. For much better selection and far cheaper prices go to empire liquors.

    (1)
  • Katrina B.

Good selection of food marred by piss poor customer service. Apparently, only one person knows how to make a sandwich or use a meat slicer, which has me standing around for 30 minutes for a sandwich. The manager just stood there and did nothing while the hispanic cook was overworked. What kind of manager doesn't know. how to use a meat slicer? And it was a fairly mediocre sandwich to boot. Manhattan price for Forest Hills quality. If you want good meats and cheese, Cheese of The World is much better. Sure the decor isn't swanky but I'm not standing around for fifteen minutes for my cheese and at least I'm not paying for the exploitation of minorities.

Sweet addition to their liquor store with the fresh dips made on the premises, but the pricing!!!! I don't know if their selection is that unique..i think, i'll skip.

There is a wonderful selection of cheese, craft beers, jams, spreads, crackers, chocolate and other specialty snacks at Vino's Cucina. As some reviewers have commented, it can be pricey, but absolutely worth it for the quality of their products. I truly feel every item has been vetted and handpicked. I had a wonderful experience there last week. I went looking for a cheese I had tasted elsewhere months ago, but I didn't remember anything about the cheese except for the taste and country of origin. I described it to the gentleman behind the cheese counter as a creamy French cheese similar to brie, but not brie...and voila, he knew exactly what I was talking about! He had a staff member bring the cheese up from the basement (they had just run out of it at the counter he explained) and opened it up for me to taste. It was just as delicious as I had remembered, but more so I was very impressed that he knew from such a minimal description exactly what I was asking for. Unfortunately, I don't remember his name, but he was very warm and asked me and my husband about the types of cheese we like and even asked if we wanted to try something else while he didn't have anyone else at the counter. He expressed it was just a taste perhaps for next time, no pressure to buy now. As I always do when I meet someone so interested in sharing and helping, I asked about his personal favorites. Instead of giving me a general answer, he explained it depends on the textures we like, when we would consume it, with what type of wine, in the context of the larger meal, etc. What a helpful answer! His interest in his craft and his delight in sharing it with others was wonderful to see and experience. Of course we took the opportunity to taste and purchase some delicious goat's milk aged gouda as well. They serve it on these amazingly thin crackers that are perfection, I think the brand is "34" - definitely a must with your cheese purchases. They always have something delicious at the counter for tasting, ranging from their specialty chocolates to cheese to crackers to hummus. It's a great way to try a product you may not be sure about buying. More times than not, I end up purchasing the tasting item also either then or at a later time. Perfect place for all your dinner party needs!

So, I am not big a "reviewer", but I SO love this place! I felt like I was back home in Europe =D They have a great selection of cheese, beers, olive oils, sauces, pretty much anything you can think of. I cannot wait to see their selection grow! One of my favorite places in Forest Hills!

I like their sweet dry saucisson. I buy the one already sliced and packed in clear container. One container is around $5.50. They have unique selection of grourmet food like Beer Cheese. I want to try all of their food! The workers are friendly.

Great place to get things for your next dinner or cocktail party. An excellent gourmet deli stocked with a good cheese selection, premium deli meats( several different Serrano , prosciutto, speck etc). But I come here because I love their selection of smoked salmon and caviar. I always get my Irish and Scottish salmon. Last New Year's Eve bought a $35 caviar that was the bomb.I am addicted to Fairway's smoked salmon and this is exactly same quality and price. They also have some prepared salads like marinated artichokes and make sandwiches. Also interesting crackers( some gluten free), breads and a variety of condiments. I frequently trek here to get their salmon and olives. My only complaint is one time I got Serrano ham and when I got it home it had white spots on it and tasted old. And sometimes the cheese in the case looks past its prime. Friendly service. They are usually busy. Also I wish they would carry fois gras mousse or fresh. Then it would be perfect. They are owned by same folks who own wine store next door Mr.Vino. And apparently are cousins with the Despana folks headquartered in my prior neighborhood of Jackson Heights.

Mr. Vino's Cucina is one of those small speciality foodie store that I wish I have in my neighbourhood. Here you can pick up cheese, cured meat, condiments and beers. For a small store this size, I was pleasantly surprised by the beers they carried both local and import selection of different beer styles. Since I was staying in Forest Hill while visiting, it was convenient for some last minute purchase for some drinking and snacking at "home".

My go-to place for comestibles, the best kind of hostess gift. Slightly expensive but great service, especially at the cheese counter. How about adding some legit coffees to your selection though?

This place was a delayed love for me. When I initially visited when they opened, I didn't really understand what a great place this is. Now, it's a weekly trip for me. Love the revolving selection of craft beers (single bottles and cans), many of which are from local breweries. Plenty of nice food products to choose from to go with said beers. Already have had some great recommendations from the friendly, attentive staff. Be prepared to spend some money, though. This is not the place for people shy about spending a bit for some quality, but upscale stuff.

Contrary to most people here, I did not think their cheese is overpriced. I often visit Saxelby's at the Essex Market and I am familiar with fancy cheese pricing. The beer selection is awesome, and I am a big fan of that. What did me in here was the atrocious customer service. I was "helped" by a short, comtemptuos man who could barely pronounce words in english correctly. I know you speak spanish, and I speak spanish too. But your disdain for my questions or requests caused you to not sell me the cheese I wanted and I will be damned if I'm going to make it easier for you by speaking another language when you are treating me like I am not idiot. Never again. If you fail at respect, you don't deserve anybody's business.

I came here this evening to purchase cheese for the first time. I came in here a couple of months ago just to take a peak. Both times the staff were really friendly. They had a decent selection of cheese. I also love the variety of dressings and olive oil they have. This is a good place to have in the neighborhood. I enjoy supporting small business'. Not to mention, the prices are reasonable for such great quality cheese. When I came in today to purchase some cheese for a road trip, everyone was extremely accommodating, and took the time to chat with me about artisan beers, and cheese. I was even offered a sample with a lovely piece of cheese on top. It happened to be the crackers that I was thinking of purchasing. Thank you! :)

Our friend was raving about this "while labeled" beer called "Lunch" that we had to try at Mr. Vino's Cucina. We walked in at 9:40pm and Eric asked if we were looking for "Lunch". He had just sold thee last bottle 30 min ago - Nooooo! Eric (you can find him on FB at "Eric I The Beer Guy") is a beer connoisseur. He just LOVES beer and knows everything about it. He has his favorites but will help anyone out according to their tastes. My husband went in for Flavorful Hoppy, I went in for Fruity and Sour. We both found something. Roberto wanted in on the action too so he provided us with Baked good samples, rainbow cookies to be exact - Delicious! Random, but I purchased a 1/2lb of Wasabi peas for $2.50 - that's really affordable right, compared to Kasugai. You can find all sorts of bougy stuff here: Beers, coffee, cheeses, smoked salmon, etc. I love this place, will be visiting more often!

This little artisanal store is one that FH needed. Are prices a bit on the higher side? Yes, but it's smack in the middle of the busiest street and rent can't be cheap these days, especially for small business owners. I have only bought items twice here even though I live in the area, but the service was impeccable. Roberto was extremely patient with me and provided a few samples of sharp cheddar cheese. I kept on going back and forth on selection and he kept pace with me by offering me a sample of what I wanted to try. I would up getting cheddar and Brie that day and they were both great. They also have a good selection of craft beers and that's always good indication that someone takes pride in their store selection. It is a small store after all. My only wish is that the space would magically get bigger so there could be a sit down area. But one can dream until the store next door isn't occupied any longer... Cheese of the world, take a note out of Roberto's page. A smile and some decent customer service would not kill you.

Cute little shop for picking up some interesting craft beers, cheeses and snacks. Some are ridiculously overpriced, but they have quite a bit that is fairly priced too. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Every time we come in there is one guy who always comes over and helps us pick out a beer or two. Sometimes he can be a little pushy, but I think that's because he loves beer so much and just wants to tell you everything there is to know about each one (^_^);;;; Have not bought cheese here yet but they seem to have a very good variety. They also have several different types of interestingly flavored chocolate bars too. Yum!

Omg! Let me say it again Omg! I heard a lot of great things about this place so a coworker and I decided to go there for our bosses Christmas gift. First off let me say the place is spotless. The products they have from cheese meat olives crackers wines pasta and pasta sauce are top shelf. Angela was amazing she helped us pick out things to go in our custom made gift basket. She also gave us some samples of olives and cheese that were to die for. There were several young men there as well and they were also extremely helpful and friendly. The basket we bought is sure to please and I know my boss will love it. If you need something Italian in your holidays this is your place

Artisan cheeses, gourmet chocolates, fresh pasta, imported jams, olives, imported crackers from Euro, dried fruit, and craft beers. Select samples are available at times. Items make good gifts to the avid foodie. In stating the obvious, like any artisan or gourmet or specialty markets Mr. Vino's prices are one and the same -- excessively overpriced. Space is small and there is no tables or seats as it is designed for takeout only. Staff is courteous to responding inquiries, but not prompt at first sight but by selection. Around the corner is Mr. Vino wine and liquor which bears the same name, Mr. Vino, don't know if the two have any correlation. Customer service at Mr. Vino's Cucina bears much more substance with professionalism and friendly towards patrons unlike it's corner neighbor Mr. Vino wine.

This place isn't perfect - I wish they carried more high-end local or organic products - but they're solid, the workers are the absolute nicest, the location is great and the food that they do have is tasty. They carry certain items, like French mayonnaise and crackers, that sell for way more in Manhattan stores, so I like to stock up here. Over the couple of years that I've shopped here, the quality hasn't dipped down at all like it tends to with other places in the area. That doesn't sound like high praise but, believe me, it is.

This place is an absolute treasure for the beer selection alone; it's a phenomenal addition to the neighborhood. If you are a craft fan, Mr. Vino's rotates their selection quite frequently. Come in week to week and you'll see new stuff to try, all single bottles and bombers. I'd reckon they have about 75 unique beers at one time. (Note: craft beer is on the expensive side; always has been, and you get what you pay for in life.) To the reviewers who criticize the beer guy, don't mistake enthusiasm and passion for snobbiness. He's very kind if you talk to him; but yes, he knows a lot, and that can be intimidating. Just be honest about what you know and ask for a suggestion. He is bound to have something that works with your tastes. But if say you want something that tastes like Coors, consider that you're in the wrong store, too. Anyway, this place rules. So glad there is something of this caliber that is closer than Bowery Whole Foods!

This is seriously one of the most delicious places in Forest Hills. Everything in this place is high quality and absolutely delicious! On top of that all of Vino's workers are soooooo nice. I wish I could eat there every day.

  • Publius K.

I like Mr. Vino's Cucina and visit regularly. It's my preferred shop for cheeses, cured meats and a Brooklyn-style selection of beers... My real complaint is that it's overpriced, in some cases (especially for beer) they will mark up 300% from the "real" cost. And by this I mean the price that you can find at the Key Food at Yellowstone. I don't mind paying a premium price for rare or unique products but not everything here is rare. Check comparable products at Fresh Direct, TJ, Fairway, Whole Foods, etc. The guys are very friendly though, and there aren't too many options in FH!
