My boss recommended this cafe to me since she is a local resident and I was definitely impressed. The first time I went I ordered the yogurt with granola and it was delicious! Second time around I ordered the scallion and swiss omelet, soo good! I'm not a huge fan of home fries but theirs were pretty good. Attentive staff and the service is great as well. This is definitely my new go-to breakfast spot when I'm in East Hampton.

Great, reliable, delicious diner! The pancakes and omelet were delicious and prepared just to order! Will be coming back! :)!

I'll start with the positives. The breakfast food was good-- pretty standard Greek diner fare. We tried eggs, omelettes, and french toast and everyone was happy with their food. However, the service was awful. So awful that after 10 years of using Yelp, I finally set up an account just to warn people about this place. First of all, they make no attempt to take names at the door or create any order whatsoever. It's total chaos with people all shoving into the very tiny front area of the restaurant and trying to grab tables as they open up. It's awful for both the people waiting and those currently dining as, if you're unlucky enough to be near the door, other guests are literally standing on top of you. When a table finally opened up and we moved to sit down, the waitstaff and a woman (who appeared to be a manager/owner) were INCREDIBLY rude about us moving toward the table before they were ready for us. After waiting all that time, it was a serious disappointment to be treated that way. The food, which I'd give 4 stars, does not make up for it. If you're ok standing in a claustrophobic space, fighting off other people to get a table, and then being treated like you're nearly invisible, this is the spot for you!

We tried John Papas since we saw that they had a solid rating on Yelp, and we were in the mood for a very casual meal. The food was fine and came out nice and hot, but wouldn't call it special. The service was totally lacking though. Our server was rushing around, not because it was very busy but just because he was impatient and seemed very disinterested in serving us. Any request we made (like extra napkins for our 1 year old and some water for us) was an annoyance to him. I would give his service 2 stars and the food 3 stars. We won't be going back.

Love this place, coffee is strong and im addicted to they grill chicken over tossed salad, I think it's the dressing what makes it I always get it with balsamic vinaigrette !!! Perfect for breakfast and lunch, reasonable prices! Laid back, great service and friendly atmosphere! Definitely getting more of bang for your buck!!!

Terrible, the server is inattentive, the bacon was old I had to ask someone to serve me, twice. No one checked in to see how my meal was going. I saw my server 3 times; first to take my drink order, then my food order, the to place the check down. I will not be returning and will not recommend to anyone. Terrible.

Fantastic local Greek diner serving breakfast all day. The pancakes are wonderful, and the beef gyro and chicken are both excellent choices. A Greek salad is a nice choice to round out the meal. Oh, and milkshakes are very good!

Cheap diner food. Hard to find in the area. Hard working Asian staff. Had a strange experience sitting next to a racist old man who was badgering the wait staff out loud. It was a huge turn off. I asked the staff why they put up with it and they said he's a regular. The management / owner of this restaurant shouldn't allow this man to continue his poor racist behavior and frequent the restaurant just because he's old and a regular. It's really disgusting that you would allow any customer to behave that way to your staff.

Only place that's been in town forever - there's a reason for that. Get a milkshake and you won't regret it even if it makes you fat.

Compared to anywhere in the Hamptons, the food is affordable diner food. I used to work around the corner for one summer and I would get their gyro on a regular basis. It's really good but you need to order extra yogurt sauce on the side!!!!! They don't put enough in.

So surprised about the rating! I love John Papa's! Being born and raised in East Hampton, this place is literally my childhood. After dance recitals I'd celebrate with their chicken marsala or when I went on a breakfast date I'd come here with my boyfriend before school started. When I was working in town this is where I'd pick up lunch, whether it was Spinach Pie, Fried fish on pita with tzatziki or just a simple greek salad (simple yet delicious). Their greek based diner menu isn't as large as princess nor hampton bays diner but the flavor and consistency is far superior. So yeah John Papas = Bomb.

Great place for locals and visitors alike. It's great for the whole family, serving breakfast all day and good choices for everyone. The milkshakes are awesome as well. Would recommend for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Being from Queens (near Astoria) I know good Greek food. John Papas is the single best Greek salad I have ever had. John Papas, like Sam's and Scoop is a landmark in East Hampton and part of the very heart of the small town's charm. Best breakfast in town.

Another Hamptons favorite I have been eating in for more years than I can remember. When you are fed up with Hamptons attitude come here. This is a true down to earth restaurant if ever there was one. Everyone eats here and you should too! It is a Greek Diner kind of place - but not a diner. The spinach pie, dolma and Greek salad are great. You can really trust these folks.

Went for breakfast after a very long night of partying with some friends. We all ordered something different and it seemed that no one had any complaint of their meal. I ordered the Italian Bread French Toast ($8) which was just what it said, nothing more, nothing less. A few others had omelettes, which were a nice size. It really is just a small diner/cafe with some general, no nonsense food that is averaged priced.

Thank goodness for this traditional, Greek diner in the heart of the Village. Terrific breakfasts, great burgers, souvlaki, soups and just about everything else at very moderate prices. Love the eggs, waffles and pancakes here (and they cleverly offer you a dish that has one of everything for the terminally indecisive). Quick, friendly service, and often crowded because it is the best place for breakfast and lunch in East Hampton!

This was my first time going to this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised. It's surrounded by typical East Hampton stores and restaurants but somehow it has a very local feel. My waiter directed me to order the flounder and I wasn't disappointed. He was really helpful and welcoming, and kept me entertain with his dry humor. The food was well seasoned and you are given endless options in sides, sauces and preparation. It's nothing fancy but I love this little slice of reality in the middle of retail central. Don't get me wrong I love East Eggie shopping and fine dining, but sometimes a sista needs to get her grub on. Love this place!

John Papas is a nice, little diner right in the heart of town. I completely agree with the people who commented on the tuna melt--it's awesome!!!

John Papas Cafe is good for their breakfast. If you want a reasonable deal and good food worth the price a recommend that you dine here for breakfast. If you dine here, you should get an omelet.

I actually like the atmosphere - dineresque, no bs, old school milkshake at the bar type of place. We come here to grab a meal when we just want to have a low key informal meal or for take out. My father in law, who's almost 80, still comes here every morning to read his paper and get away from everyone early morning. I like these simple diners. It's a nice change from all the restos we go to with the fam when we're in town. When husband and I pass our days alone, we come in here to wind down.

What a cute place if you have a tight schedule. I ate here before my 6:45 train and it was pretty good. If you're in a rush or on a budget, I recommend this place. (The subtext of this review being if you're not in a rush or on a budget, there are plenty of better places to get dinner.)

Greek diner with good food, decent service, and okay prices. The atmosphere isn't that great. I definitely feel like they could do more with the place and keep later hours. I recommend the tuna melt on the garlic bread (if you like tuna).

I went on a Sunday afternoon at around 2 PM. Unlike everything else in the area, John Papas has this neighborhood-oriented and family feel. We waited more than twenty minutes as we got there toward the end of the brunch rush on a Sunday morning. I had really been in the mood for some bacon and home fries, but unfortunately, by the time we got there at 2, there were no home fries left. I opted for a lunch option and had fries, fried chicken, and tap water. The chicken was some of the best I ever had. Surprisingly, my only complaint was the tap water. I ordered this as I did not want to incur an unnecessary expense while out there. It was absolutely DISGUSTING and should not be served at all - there should be a warning about this. I felt like I was drinking straight out of a toilet bowl! I would have happily paid the extra money for a bottled water, had I been told. The service was great. As it was still a bit busy because of brunch, we sat at the counter. I have no complaints about this, since we were served promptly. It took less than two minutes for us to get our food, and as soon as we were done, we asked for the check and got it promptly. Everything was seamless! I really love how family-oriented this place is -- it is a nice respite from the rest of the Hamptons pretentiousness. I felt like I was at a diner in Astoria and not eating in East Hampton. I hope John Papas continues to keep the ambiance, but do hope someone does something about that water..

Friendly and quick service. No problem accommodating special requests. Tasty food, Hampton prices, family oriented & one of the few remaining Greek coffee shops/diner in the area. Recommended.

I've never been disappointed here. Three reliable meals: Chicken Souvlaki, their Reuben, and the Mamas Burger. Great little diner!

John Papas Cafe is more like a diner, but it's the Hamptons so prices are a bit higher. Food is pretty good and predictable. I came here for breakfast and had an enjoyable omelette.

This place was great. I love a good diner and this one is a good one. Very down to earth and the prices are reasonable for East Hampton!! That's actually my main reason for going there. It seemed affordable and classic (it was) and I was pleasantly surprised I got chocolate chip pancakes with fruit. I was so glad to see that fruit was actually fresh (strawberries and blueberries) when I was expecting a goopy stewed mess. They gave a good sized portion as well. Also got a fresh lemonade and it was SUPER fresh. I could see the lemon pulp at the bottom. And they let you add your own sugar so that was nice. The service was really good. It was crowded because it was Sunday brunch time but we didn't wait too long, maybe 15 min and then we were seated at the counter. Someone came right away and made sure we'd ordered. I left feeling full and happy. I would definitely go back here. It was a welcome respite from the pretentiousness of the rest of east hampton.
