I give Bluebird a solid 4-stars for food; had the Grilled Cheese with Bacon and enjoyed it! The apple salad they serve with it was a definite bonus; slices apples in a a light dressing really balanced out the cheese sandwich. Although they didn't have a kids menu, the kids enjoyed the dumplings and pulled pork sandwich; definitely not BBQ by Texas standard but was good. Dumplings were definitely a hit as my son wolfed them down in about 5 minutes. The only troubling thing I found was service; maybe it was because I was there with kids but I felt ignored after our order was taken; I finished my beer about the time our meals arrived and would have ordered another if anyone had bother to ask. Our server was invisible after arriving with our meals; didn't talk to us until she brought the bill. Missed an opportunity to sell a dessert and definitely another beer. Overall: 3 1/2 stars but won't hold the service against the restaurant too, too much...

There are just a few good food items on the menu that I stick with, the main one being the brisket sandwich. I order it every time and have forced every friend of mine to try it! However, the past few time I've had it, it wasn't as good as when they first started making it. The meat didn't taste seasoned. I had to add salt, which I rarely do. I remember it being more flavorful, but lately it's been tasting more like boiled meat. I also asked for pepper and the waiter brought me an empty pepper bottle that hadn't been filled yet (he wasn't really paying attention). I hope they work on it. It's one of the few things that kept me coming and dragging my friends along with me.

I REALLY want to like this place, and the folks there are incredibly nice which earns them an extra star. I've been here twice...on one occasion, my wife and I came in just for drinks after Smorgasburg, and had to wait over 45 minutes to get them. Our drinks were comped without asking, which is what brought us back here again last night. We grabbed a table on the patio to wait for friends who were meeting us here, and in the span of five minutes saw not one, but two LARGE rats make their way over the wall from the subway onto the patio, where there seemed to be a nest behind the planters...about 5 feet from where we were eating. Needless to say, we moved straight inside...our friends were meeting us there and there aren't a ton of nearby places, so we couldn't really leave...but it's unlikely we'll return without some sort of known improvement on the service speed and rodent situation.

Ok, I've tried but no. First off you walk in to the weirdest living room space that is confusing. Am I suppose to sit there and wait for a host? Am I suppose to go to the back? So then you make your way to the back and BAM there is the kitchen to your right. A big bar in the middle, tables and a back patio. All that is great. The problem is the food is just gross and the drinks are not good and rather weak. The staff was nice but again I have been here 3 times now and every time the food has just been terrible and the specialty cocktails taste like weak party punch that probably has bit of glass and despair in it. The clientele is basically all the same insufferable people that used to hang out at Lincoln Park Tavern. Other new places in the hood have been fun and delicious. This place is overpriced and gross.

I love this place. I haven't had the pleasure of sitting in the back patio (too cold already!) but one feature that almost trumps all other: wood-burning fire place. Toasty warm in the cold weather, and just so good-smelling on more mild days. ahhhhh. But fireplace aside (and we do love the fireplace), the atmosphere and food here are great! So far I've had oysters, the grilled cheese, and the chicken pot pie and they've all been delicious. my boyfriend had the beef burger, and while it was satisfying, was quite plain--sort of reminiscent of Lincoln Park Tavern's burger, and not in a good way. The side of cold bland potato salad wasn't exactly a winner either--it would have been nice to have fries, or barring that, maybe just a nice little side of mixed greens. The service has been great and the drinks are delicious as well. I had a couple of great tasting cocktails and my boyfriend had an excellent IPA on tap. I love the curved bar--we realized the taps in the center of the bar area (on an island) made the whole bar feel a lot more open--nothing to stand between you and talking to the bartender when needed. I'm THRILLED there's a pool table in this place. I'm not sure how i feel about that empty front room, but if it means there's a pool table in the same establishment as delicious drinks/food, then I'm ok with it. Honestly, the only reason I'm docking 1 star from this review is because A) the menu could stand a few tweaks to be a bit more memorable/distinguished from LPT, and B) the open empty room in the front feels a little uninviting. At first glance you wouldn't know it was a restaurant--they've now moved in 2 slightly larger tables to fill up the space--but it almost feels like someone's formal dining room, except with 2 flatscreen TVs on the walls. It's honestly a bit weird. Not sure what they'd envisioned for that area. Even if there was a separate, smaller bar in the front with a bartender it would make a little more sense. Shit, maybe i'll show up with 10 friends and we'll be glad for the wide open separate front dining room!

This is our second time here and we absolutely love it. The atmosphere is fantastic, the food is great and the space is so cozy. Our neighborhood go-to from here on in. A+ all the way.

Came here for Saturday brunch with a friend. It was our first time here and we decided to check it out after so many great reviews this place was receiving. The decor was classy and I really felt like I was at a Bed & Breakfast in a log cabin. The service was very fast for both the drinks and the food. My friend and I both ordered the burger with home fries (there are no regular fries) and the burger was juicy and cooked perfectly. It definitely was a smaller portion than I was craving for (and am used to for America) so i ordered another meal which was the kielbasa, sausage and eggs. So delicious and after that one, I was full. We drank mimosas throughout the meal. The server was very friendly, the busser nice and the crowd was impeccable. Well mannered, sociable, polite.. everything I was hoping for in this place. There is a real working wood burning fireplace, curved bar and outdoor space. I haven't tried the outdoor spot yet because it's cold, but i definitely will once spring is here. The front room has tables and a pool table for overflow, private parties or maybe if you want to just drink and shoot pool. This place is a much needed addition to the neighborhood. Finally, a place to eat, drink and socialize without having to jop on the train and go elsewhere.

I really really want to love this place! The ambiance is great (love the fireplace) and the staff are super friendly and sweet. However, I've been here twice now and I think that there was something to be desired. First off, for brunch, they have no toast! They make a joke about it in the menu "No toast...really!" Why this is, I have no idea, since they definitely have bread for sandwiches. It seems an odd thing to refuse on a brunch menu. Similarly, they can only do scrambled eggs. I was informed that the kitchen isn't big enough for any other kind. That may be true, but it's a bummer none the less when you order an egg dish and are less a fan of scrambled eggs, like I am. Also, they only have milk for coffee. This is kind of a pet peeve as well. My boyfriend tried to order tea, and they had no tea. The food is pretty good, though options are limited. I've found their homefries/sauteed veggies to be a bit on the greasy side. All in all, I think this place has immense potential, but I think they need to get their menu and small kinks worked out a bit more, and to provide a bit more customer-service oriented flexibility. The things listed above are very minor for sure, but cumulatively, after being told "no" over and over in the course of your meal, it is a bit disappointing. If you are only going to offer a few dishes, it would be nice to be able to choose how your eggs are, or add toast as a side, etc. I anticipate this type of stuff will get better with time and look forward to trying them again :)

MUST DO: $1 Oyster Happy Hour This place is a gem that brings consistency to an inconsistent dining scene in PLG. Tied with Cafe Rue Dix, this is our favorite place in Brooklyn. We have had a lot of what's on the menu and these items stand out: The Garden Burger, The Grilled Cheese, Brisket Sandwich. The staff are wonderful, and the food is incredibly delicious, high-quality and a great value. The menu is constantly changing, so we have had a variety of food in our 5+ times dining here. The ambience and space is great. They have awesome wall art, which is also for sale. The outdoor patio is the perfect place to dine in the summer time and a comforting summer night breeze. Shout out to David the bartender for his exemplary service. Be sure to check out their sister bar, "Midwood Flats" located down the street. Overall, Bluebird is amazing. We have been here for lunch and dinner, but will be trying brunch in the coming weeks!

A+ for the shrimp and pork dumplings with hoisin, mustard sauces. Scrumptious. Bartender was chill, space was enormous. Backyard, foosball--has a really sweet setup. Will definitely return to try more on their menu.

This and Midwood Flats are my go-to in Flatbush. Would give them five stars, but the menu is a bit light and the service can sometimes leave you wanting. But! the food is great and there is lovely outdoor seating. I've never sat in the front room (which is like their event space, so the orientation is a bit strange) but the back and patio are great.

This place is not like any place in the neighborhood currently. The space is beautiful and odd. The front is huge with a big pool table, but pretty empty. I went right before a bachelorette party so they might have moved some things around. The back was actually pretty packed and it had the kitchen and a fire going. The staff were super nice and accommodating. They let us sit in the front room even though they knew a party was coming in 1.5 hours and they never rushed us. The food was pretty good. I split a brisket sandwich, pot pie, and apple crisp with my boyfriend. The brisket sandwich was really good, though I didn't get to try the cole slaw that came with it because my boyfriend ate it all. The pot pie was only average. It was pretty small for being one of the most expensive items on the menu and it really wasn't pie like. The filling was really more of a chicken and mushroom soup. Some of the potatoes were undercooked. The flavor was great, but I really wouldn't call it a chicken pot pie. The apple crisp was my favorite of the night. It had an oatmeal "crumble" top and caramel sauce all over it. Not to mention that the chantilly cream was generous. I would definitely go back to try other items. My friends had the chicken wings and grilled cheese, both of which looked delicious. This is really a 3.5 star rating because I have to take .5 stars off for the bill. The waitress wrote some numbers that did not match the menu pricing at all. We asked someone at the restaurant and they fixed it for us so it wasn't a big deal especially since the rest of the service was amazing and patient.

Great space, open and warm-feeling, with a wood-burning stove and friendly employees. My brunch was great and reasonably priced. The coffee was not great though. I'll be a regular!

This could become your local watering hole. The place was packed, in the back, and with that said, there was enough real estate between our neighbors on either side of us. No gossip was overheard. Dinner menu seemed more lunch, but it was delicious nonetheless. The brisket was especially stellar, although the mustard to meat ratio needs to be tweaked. Great pickle. The front room set up is a little bizarre; it's a bit earnest like THAT girl in middle school who began wearing black and white striped tights and listening to "alternative" music. But, perhaps, that's part of it's charm, and the reason you're crushin'.

Such a great new local. I've always loved the Lincoln Tavern and this has the same exactly right unpretentious everyone feel of the neighborhood, plus some slightly fancier food (but equally inexpensive) and a little more space. We go at least once a week for good beer and delicious dinner -- burger, eggplant sandwich, grilled cheese are my favorites. Also, the servers are lovely people -- we're particularly fond of the A Team (Alisha and Aleesha, sp?), Nick and Carl. Go to here.

There is an outdoor area in the back that is beautiful and has lots of tables. The brunch food is great, and the brunch drink specials are $4 mimosas and $6 bloody marys until 4pm. Waitstaff is friendly. There can be a bit of a wait sometimes because the place is popular and there is usually only one, maybe two, people working the garden area, but the food is worth the wait -- just relax and enjoy the day. :)

I just went to Bluebird for the third time, my first time for brunch. The previous two I had gone for dinner. The space is excellent, and I am especially fond of the patio in the back. The trees are beautiful, it is quiet, and there is shade and room enough to have private conversation. The food has been good, and I had developed great hopes for the place since the neighborhood really doesn't have much going on in this category of restaurant and bar. The staff is lovely and competent. I went to try the brunch having built up the expectations from previous visits and wishing for the place to have good business. The food has been fine again (maybe more salt on the omelet?), and I had no trouble getting bacon instead of cheese on the eggs (maybe also get soy milk for coffee?), but was surprised at whatever 'policy' they have in place regarding toast. In brief, you can't have any: 'no toast. really...no toast.' I was annoyed enough about it that I had not one but two conversations with the wonderful wait person, who expressed their own surprise at the strange idea that brunch should not include toast. Apparently the idea, and the defensive phrasing on the menu, both come from the owner (not from the chef, who should be the person making decisions about food). A strange decision, suggestive of a misunderstanding about the nature of brunch as a meal that is about eating plenty of satisfying food, and irritating to a lot of the diners, judging by the comments we could hear sitting there and at surrounding businesses (where we went to have bagels after having brunch). I lodged a formal complaint and was told that my observations were conveyed to the appropriate place. I hope whatever personal feelings the owner has about toast don't tank the brunch business and negatively affect the rest. It's the kind of business that costs little to profit from. The neighborhood couldn't wait for something like this to exist. The place was full within minutes. Brunch is a comfort meal. It's supposed to include comfort foods.

I wanted to love it but needs improvement. As a sports nut I don't mind the pool table, tvs, lounge like atmosphere in the front. The food was just ok, not great. I went here with my boyfriend and he ordered the burger. I ordered the wings. The burger didn't come with fries but with potato salad? Wth? A burger without fries? That's just not right. He said his burger was fine but my wings were actually not. The sauce that accompanied the wings just had a weird taste to me & they also weren't piping hot. The drink selection is ok but food needs improvement. The food menu is kind of limited. The service was great, no complaints there. Food needs to be improved.

Went for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. 1. This place has a very interesting layout: big open room in the front, small room with horseshoe bar and a few tables in the middle, and small backyard patio in back. If the place gets super popular later (it's only been open a few weeks as of now), this might be awkward, but for now it works. (Also, it's just now getting cold; I'm curious how they'll manage traffic when the patio is unusable due to weather.) However, potential problems aside, the place is cute and different, and I hope it works out. 2. The food is delicious! Small menu, average portion size (on the smaller side of average, but plenty for most folks), reasonable prices. Creative combinations, solid delivery. 3. Happy hour mimosas and bloody marys were solid. (I recommend they make the bloodys a little taller and with a splash more tomato, but the horseradish is spot on.) Cheap and plenty stiff. They take cash and cards, so you're good to go. Good luck, Bluebird! We're in the neighborhood and will be back!

Update 8/17/15 Suddenly the quality went down... Yet another awesome additions to the neighborhood. Beautiful space, nice art, very interesting food and good drinks by an ex-Lincoln Tavern bartender :) can't wait to check out the brunch!

This is, without a doubt, the greatest new place in the neighborhood. Not only is the atmosphere and space wonderful, but the bartenders are wonderful and the drinks are top-notch. Love the fireplace, the back deck, and the music choices. Haven't tried the food here yet - but I can't wait to come back. The only downside is that when we tried to come for my birthday, it was already closed by 1AM :(

Came here yesterday with my boyfriend for dinner and I had a great time the ambiance is superb and the service is on point. It's extremely spacious and very welcoming, not only were the staff friendly they were also extremely knowledgable of the menu in which was given. The food was great!!!!! I had the picnic burger with a side of potato salad and my boyfriend had the brisket sandwich, both dishes were delicious. From the fire place ,out door area , pool table to just the overall set up made Bluebird another great addition to my restaurant list. I will definitely recommend anyone whose in the area to come here because I know I will be.

What a gorgeous addition to the neighborhood! Went in the evening for dinner and drinks with friends. Got the "fancy grilled cheese" with sliced apples and roasted tomatoes, so tasty, and their dessert special that night was a chocolate cherry bread pudding, which was amazing. So spacious and ambient, the curved bar, fireplace, outdoor patio. This place gives me even more reason to just stay in the neighborhood for a night on the town!

I love this place. The backyard is great, the inside space is great, and I love that they have a rotating tap. The food is a bit expensive for the portion sizes, but the flavor makes up for it. The Friday night barbecue they advertise is a little pricey at $22/pp, but the portions are nice and big, and if you're not too hungry you could split it with someone else, along with a small plate. Wine list is nice, if short, and they sell by the bottle and pitcher, as well as the glass for Sangria, wine, beer, and Margaritas. I love that this spot has opened up in the neighborhood, and I am definitely a regular!

Is this place named after the bluebird of happiness? Because i was very happy after having brunch here with friends. Came early on a Saturday and walked through the front area to the back bar and seating area. Was promptly seated and ordered a Ringwald, a very tasty cocktail. My friends joined shortly thereafter and we were all taken care of by our terrific server. One pal's dish was a bit delayed and our server apologized and let us know in such a gracious manner that we didn't mind. The rogue dish came out two minutes later and all was well. I had the kielbasa, which was very nice and filling. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. The place is nicely designed, has friendly service, good food and reasonable prices. What's not to like? I am a fan and expect this place to be a mainstay in this changing neighborhood for years to come.

Kind of strange, the portion size... We had a half roasted chicken with ratatouille. A $14 item but what came was a tiny half chicken with a little tiny drumstick. So I think that is actually called a Cornish Hen. Why not call it what it is? The chilled tomato soup for $8 was about one ladle of soup (maybe 8oz) in a huge bowel. Disappointing. Taste was OK but price and portion size ratio is way off.

Very nice inside! Odd layout: there's a party room for groups when you first walk in, so to get a table you have to go to the back. This neighborhood desperately needs more burger spots. Bluebird's burger is just okay. The burger is kind of small, so if you're a big dude, you may want to order an appetizer as a side dish. The potato salad is more mayo than potato. Pretty gross =/ Shoddy service. We had 3 different servers help us and we were only there an hour.

Great place for afterwork, after subway ride, and after cleaning apartment drinks- any excuse. I've only been here for drinks, and more often than not, I end up having beers, but last night was my first time back since cinco de mayo, and I was reminded that I meant to write a review letting the establishment know that the beers are not cold enough, especially for these last few days, with the heatwave and all. So please, just cool them a bit more- actually, a lot more. They really are too warm. My friends thought so too. Thanks!

great ambiance. my friend and I came here for dinner and beers. I had the grilled cheese, which was delicious, and we shared an apple cobbler (I think they called it a cobbler) which was good if you like an oatmeal crust. the beer was also quite good. I've been accused of sipping my beer like champagne, but at a place like this, I don't mind. definitely a sign of gentrification, so part of me doesn't want this in Prospect Heights, but on the other hand, it's a spacious, welcoming bar with a (fake?) fireplace and a pool table out front.

A much needed restaurant/bar in the area! A fairly basic menu but all the food is done extremely well. Pair that with a great tap list and a fireplace and there you won't mind it's the only place nearby since you won't want to leave. I've been four times and have yet to order something that wasn't delicious, from the brunch, lunch, or dinner menus. Good wait service and good bartending makes it easy to like Bluebird.

Extremely slow service. My husband and I went there for brunch. There were perhaps 4 other tables and yet it took over 20 minutes and flagging 3 different people to bring us water. By the time our order actually came it was unbelievably disappointing. First- our server made some passive aggressive comment on how it's finally our turn. Second- The portions were extremely small. I ordered the roasted asparagus and scrambled eggs. It looked like I had 1/2 an egg and 6 asparagus over a bunch of undercooked, under seasoned potatoes and soggy onions. My husband had ordered the brisket with scrambled eggs- he felt his brisket was bland and watery. I will not be coming here again

  • Not My Name N.

Methinks not! The food is negative 5 stars. Soggy chicken wings - how is that possible? Dried out burgers - I ordered rare. Sopping wet bread on pork sandwich. It's an improvement to opening week when I ordered chicken wings and they came out with moving fish skin on them (the truth), but still... THE FOOD IS NASTY The one star is given for the space, it's designed nicely. Just fly away, Bluebird.

  • Bea L.

I went back twice after first review. Had to drop a star. Food is really just so so. Something is just off with every dish. I still can't place exactly what. It's just uninspired. The service was unbelievably slow in the patio and it wasn't even close to full or busy. Took 15 mins to order drinks, would have been forever for food. I work as a server and I can see exactly how their antiquated ticket system slows down service. Investment in a good POS system should be a top priority for any restaurant. My friends and I agree that this place is only doing well because we currently have no other options. Rogers ave is full of under construction establishments and new places keep opening all over the area so once that's a-go I probably won't return.

  • Brian M.

I live not too far away and have been here on many occasions. It's usually very good. Portions are not huge and I like that actually. Food prices are very low given the quality, although the one complaint that I have is that one time (out of ten plus visits), I had a sort of soggy brisket sandwich that didn't taste great. Pretty minor complaint, but an altogether friendly staff with a decently varied menu.

  • Nikki K.

Not a great first experience here. There was nowhere to sit, so we sat outside in the cold in the backyard area and they wouldn't even let us order food and bring it out there. When we were able to move inside and stand in the front room, they wouldn't give us food because we didn't have seats. So, we had to leave and get food somewhere else. Otherwise, the drinks were okay, not great, but pretty expensive. It has a nice ambiance, but we were really underwhelmed by the cocktails and service.

So far, I've only been here for beers, but if first impressions mean anything, this place is an amazing addition to the neighborhood. Given what the front of the restaurant looks like (we'll get back to that in a bit), the bar in the back is surprisingly warm and inviting. Homey wood panel walls, a very large semi-circle bar with ample seating, more seating along the walls...and a fireplace! Ooooh, this place is going to hit the spot during the holidays. I'm going to say they have a decent selection of beers--canned, bottled, and on tap---but I'm also not a beer aficionado and easily intrigued by one called Porkslap so what do I know? I have yet to try their food but am looking forward to it. Brunch, dinner, what have you. Notes on the layout: What's the deal with the big open space at the front of the restaurant? After walking past Bluebird several times, I thought THAT was all there was to the restaurant. I've occasionally seen 2 tables or a pool table in that space, neither of which are large enough for it. As my boyfriend said, it looks like a failing business from the outside looking in, and when we had gone to get drinks, that space was actually being used for a private party. Just wondering why they wouldn't swap that bar and dining area with such a room? Anywho, bar's in the back! Check it out. A great, spacious alternative to the also recently opened Midwood Flats that is nice but smaller and always packed.

First of all, I'm a sucker for a fireplace so Bluebird was off to five stars the minute I arrived for brunch and was welcomed by the smell of a cosy fire. But they fully earned all five stars for the fantastic service, my friend and I were laughing with our waitress throughout our meal, terrific food- dear god the brisket hash (don't be fooled by its seemingly underwhelming presentation, it's fan-freakin'-tastic!), and the drinks which are fair and well blended pours each time. Bluebird is off to a great start and I'm thrilled to be along for the ride.

Swanky, hipster little place with ok service, great drinks (could be in taller glasses for the prices), and mediocre food. I was the most disappointed with my food. I ordered the $19 shrimp, spinach, and grapefruit salad that was not even worth $5. The spinach was wilted and slimy, and the mixture of bitter spinach with cold shrimp, and warm grapefruit was not appetizing in any way. The 2 mango margaritas, and the buffalo wings I had instead of finishing that salad made up for that rancid taste in my mouth.

Just got the eggplant sandwich to go and it was so good! Served with olives and herbed ricotta on the side. Italian dream indeed. Spacious inside and great decor. I will be back!

Why I didn't give this place 2 stars: Backdoor patio, or inside fireplace; Friendly managers and bar staff. Great bus-person who is always smiling and clearing away dirty plates and making sure all is ok (because the wait staff hardly does - this guy is awesome and remembers that I've been here quite a few times with various groups). Why I won't give this place 4 stars: The waitstaff is meh. They seem so uninterested in most. This goes for 4/5 times i've been there this year. I am pretty laid back but the past few times I've brought people here, they've complained about the service: the waitperson not fully understanding the prep on a dish, or not coming back to check on drinks or forgetting that we want our check. So, i end up feeling badly for suggesting the location! Also, we sent something back, and it was forgotten about until it was time to pay (we had to wave down our server after quite some time). The food is fine. I mean it's the local spot. I go here when I have friends in town and don't want to drag them too far or if I am meeting a friend from near. The brisket is mediocre, the oyster happy hour is now 1.50 a pop not $1. There is no happy hour on wine or spirits, only beer. They have some good, comfort food on menu, but nothing sensational. With that said, I am happy they are here. I just hope they can tighten up their waitstaff/service, and figure out an easy enough menu that they can deliver on. It's not that difficult. And train their waitstaff to know the menu. From here on out, I will only go there on my own, and sit at the bar or outside to have an early drink (because my home is so near). I am reluctant to bring friends here. :/ I really want to like this place more. The potential is there...

I really want this place to do well, as I was a fan of LPT around the corner. I would be delighted to up my star rating after another visit but my hesitations (not gripes) are thus: -the layout is odd and unwelcoming. I can get over that if these next few things are improved -the service is weird. Several people, waiters and a person who seemed like a chef/owner/mgr helped us during our visit, and as a result our drinks arrived and then it took ten minutes for someone, someone different, to even take a food order, after asking us if we wanted a drink as our drinks were arriving with a different server. When they did, the food was yummy. So kind of no harm no foul. But it was a little weird. Having to politely tell one waiter that another has already taken your order and then having the chef/manager/ownery guy come over and ask to take an order isn't the worst thing ever but it's not fun when you're trying to enjoy a dinner out. Improve FOH communication and this place could be dope. Don't worry, we'll be back to give it another try.

3 stars seems fair. I got the grilled cheese w bacon, which was delicious. but, spending $15 on a grilled cheese when all was said and done, and not being full, was kinda crummy. picked up a slice of pizza on the way home to top off my stomach. maybe I'll check out oyster happy hour and get a burger next time. what's with all these hipster places not even OFFERING FRIES on the menu? ok, I get it, you wanna put a salad with my burger? fine. but at least give me the option of fries! come on. a burger and fries is the definition of America. if you're serving me a burger, there should be a part of the menu that has fried things to accompany it, the end. I like the ambience and the vibe; I appreciate there's a fireplace and small outdoor patio and knife classes and all those twee little 'Brooklyn' things that all the [new] inhabitants of this neighborhood want. you did a good job of creating a Williamsburg-ish staple in Lefferts - success (?) a sign of the changing times, for sure, but I'll give you another shot. mostly cuz I can smell that burger from across the room...

Crackling fireplace by the bar in the winter. YES! Backyard in the spring/summer. YES! YES! Picnic Burger, chicken pot pie, brunch fare...Si, Senor! Drinks? ON POINT! Also, everyone who works here is a sweetheart. Pretty darn jazzercised to have this place in the nabe!

this place is basically fine, it is good that it exists, but meh. definitely don't "go here for dinner" because the food is not great and you can spend as much (if that's what you're looking to do, yknow sit in a place that has chairs and waiters etc) at a couple of the other ones and get much better food. not that it's bad. but also, and more importantly, the place itself feels oddly flattened, everything too far away and all the wood somehow looking like wallpaper. it was as if the owners weren't going for "brooklyn bougie" so much as some kind of out of towner cable tv "best bars in the usa" viewer would picture, based on that show. as if the entire building was the equivalent of an electric fireplace.

What a nice addition to the neighborhood!Living almost next door to Bluebird, I was super excited when this spot opened. Iv been there 3 times so far, once for late night drinks and twice for brunch. The food - just ok. Decent burger and omelet, and the brisket hash was pretty good. Nothing to rave about but decent enough to get outta bed for. 3 stars only because the service kind of sucks - there's like 15 people standing around and it took forever to get a bottle of ketchup and some random guy that didn't even seem to work there delivered the food to the table. Also - the music was HORRIBLE. No one wants to hear heavy metal at brunch, seriously. PLEASE make good playlist! Regardless of all the negatives, I will be back considering we are neighbors and hope that some things will improve!

Yummy and fits the bill if you're hankering for a your hipster/gentrifier spot. No, but seriously folks, sometimes you're in the hood, not in the mood to deal with the train, and want a damn glass of wine so badly you're willing to rationalize a $9 grilled cheese. (It's delicious.) I'm not dissing -- I get it. I've been there. If that's you, this is your place.

First off, I have never written a review for anything before. I am writing this review because I love this spot so much, and for that reason alone felt compelled to share with curious yelp readers what a gem this place is. Whenever I go, I sit at the curved bar (though I did sit outside once during a warmer month). I love that this is a place you can easily and comfortably sit alone at (I am a female) with a book, or come with a large group of friends (I once came with my work party of 25+ people and we took over the somewhat awkward front room and it was PERFECT). The owner is often there, and they seem to have a solid buyback plan which is a very good business plan if you ask me. Their wine pours are hefty and amazing. The one thing I'm not crazy about is they make their old fashions too sweet (they come out very red with cherry juice and a crushed cherry), but they still taste good. Foodwise, the chicken bahn mi salad is to DIE for, and it changes slightly every time I order it (which has been at least 4 times). There isn't a lot of vegetarian options, and the menu is generally limited, but I'm hoping that changes as they become more established. I'd love some french fries on the menu! The oysters are AMAZING. Overall, things are priced right, the staff is super friendly, and the odd front room is great for large parties (I wish the lighting was dimmer in that room!). I have never been for brunch, but plan to. I discovered this place the same day that I discovered Midwood Flats, and I've returned at least 20 times now, and have only visited Midwood Flats twice (and was disappointed both times).

Just tried brunch at the Blue Bird Food and Spirits on Flatbush(couldn't find them on Twitter) so no Tweet. Good burger, not great, but good for $9.50. Very nice service, but still some kinks to work out. The scrambled eggs and kielbasa was a major disappointment- maybe one egg and a quarter of a sausage in it. The chef/owner expedites and visually monitors but in a place that will be made or break by neighbor love - checking in on each table would be a welcomed approach - since the wait staff was more than happy to get us set up but didn't check in. All in all just empathize more, check the plates before they go out - would you want that? As the owner, if you were a patron wouldn't you want the owner to ask how you were/ the food was? Trust that you won't then get a review that you "cared too much" but keep up the hard work!

Really liked the place. The $1 Oyster Happy Hour was awesome, the Kentucky something or other drink was delicious, and the bartender rocked,,,I wanna say his name was Jeremy (?).....anyway, thank you for a great experience. The only reason fro the 4 star review is due to the menu....it just felt like something was missing.... though what I had was yummy.

Heard the place had opened and dropped in for brunch this past Sunday (10.5). We ate outside and then decided to have a couple of drinks at the bar just to get the feel of the bar/dining room. The outdoor space is really pleasant. Shady, spacious, and the smell of the smoker gets this Texan tummy rumbling. Inside had a cozy vibe, with the fireplace and all. They've created plenty of seating around the edges of the room, but there's lots of space between seating and the large, horseshoe-shaped bar, so it seems like on busy nights they'll be able to accommodate a large crowd without being crowded. There's also a front room, which is quite large and very nicely decorated, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what they've got in mind for that room. There's not a lot of seating, and I didn't notice a stage/music area... guess we'll wait and see. Overall, though, the place is well put together and inviting, and its large windows keep it beautifully bright and well lit, so there's finally a spot nearabouts for a couple of beverages in the afternoon that don't have you stepping outside dazed and blinded (ahem, Lincoln Tavern). So in terms of atmosphere, it's a GREAT addition to the neighborhood. The food, considering we were there for 1st brunch, was quite good. We had the wings to start, and they were cooked perfectly, juicy with crisped skin. The sauce was a bit sweet for my taste, I always tend to spicy, but that's just a matter of preference. That said, I would *prefer* it if there was a spicy sauce as good as the sweet sauce. I had the caponata sandwich, which was delicious, and my wife loved her omelette. Then we had the stone-fruit pie that they'd brought in from a local bakery and it was super-good. Had a great experience with service as well. Our waiter was nice and attentive, despite having quite a crowd on his hands and a brand new menu to work with. The bartender was very friendly, chatty without being intrusive, and worked hard to be welcoming. TL;DR- Extremely happy to have this place in the neighborhood.

Really cool place to have Sunday brunch alone or with a group of friends. The front of the place is open with a Foosball and pool table and a couple tvs to watch a game. The back of Bluebird seems more magical with a wood burning fireplace and an open small kitchen. The wait staff is very attentive and receptive for suggestions on how you'd like your drink. My goto here is the French 76, but be sure to ask for St. Germaine instead of grenadine. For brunch I had the goat cheese omelette which was fantastic and filling. The brisket was also very good. A really mellow place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Went for their first brunch and as we walk in we were astounded by the space (enormity as well as quality). When we made it past the first room with the beautiful pool table, flat screen tv's and stacks of chopped wood we entered the main dining area which had a gorgeous stone stacked fire place! Where the hell were we? The perfumed air of the burning embers escorted us out to the outdoor area which was beautifully shaded and a perfect spot for a fall brunch. I had the Turkey brisket and my friend had the scrambled eggs with asparagus. Both were done well as our eggs weren't (well done, that is). We've wished for a modest restaurant/bar combo for years that had a nice ambience and decent food. Our wishes were met and vastly exceeded by Bluebird. Welcome to the neighborhood new friend and please, stay awhile.

When you first enter Bluebird, a giant open area with plenty of seating and a pool table greets you. You are then immediately greeted by their fantastic staff, and extremely handsome and friendly manager if you're lucky. Towards the back you'll find a bar, more tables, a warm fireplace and a cozy patio with artwork sprinkled in different areas for purchase! If you want a quick bite to eat, you won't be disappointed by the menu. The presentation of each of the dishes alone are amazing and super affordable--the fancy grilled cheese is a must try! They have a pretty good selection of wine and beer. The waiter even came with samples of different wines when we couldn't make up our minds! The customer service and ambience of this place is superb. They don't push the bill or rush you, and they didn't bombard your table, but they make sure you were well taken care of. If you're looking for a chill and laid back place to spend your Friday or Saturday night, or even a place to rent for a birthday, this is the place! I will most definitely be frequenting this place!

Great brunch today- asparagus eggs and french toast, frisee salad, and grilled cheese were all excellent. Super service, nice space indoor and out. The non-egg eater was not stumped finding a dish which was a nice change from other brunch spots. This was our second time there- the other was for dinner and drinks. We will definitely return soon and bring friends. This is a great addition to the neighborhood.

Bluebird is a great addition to the neighborhood which has been seriously lacking in sit down places to have dinner or brunch. The back room is really nice, with a spacious layout and lovely fireplace. It feels sort of like being at a ski lodge except that it's super loud and that you have to walk through this room with an identity crisis. It's half game room, half communal dining with a dash of community center. The food is solid and the service is good. My one comment on the menu is that the random Asian items don't quite go with the pub fare. All in all though, I can see myself making a habit of grabbing a grilled cheese and beer there.

So happy this place has come to Prospect Lefferts Garden! Went there for a happy hour snack, had a lovely glass of wine for me & an excellent brew on tap for my boyfriend. I had 2 $1 oysters & we shared the chicken pot pie, both were delectable! I love raw oysters & these were excellent and the sauces were fantastic. The chicken pot pie had lots of meat & lots of great veggies. They are still finding their sea legs, but I am confident that they'll find them, the set up in the front is a little strange but don't be scared, just head on through to the awesome bar & dining room & really charming patio, Carl the GM who is also currently the wonderful bartender says they're planning for smores in the near future! I can't wait :-)

Happy that more offerings are coming to PLG and BB has surprisingly well-done, albeit typical, bar food. Split the grilled cheese and frisée salad and apple crisp with a friend and was completely satisfied. The fireplace in the back room is a big draw, as will be the patio in summertime, but I found the TV an unwelcome distraction mostly because the front room gives you that sports bar type option and also, nothing was especially interesting about the program...just regular tv with commercials et al. At least play a cool movie or Japanese tv show or something more curated! Unless it's World Cup ; ) The one CON about this place (& PLG in general), and I do mean con, is that NONE of their reds by the glass are any good, and I tried them all based on the very wordy menu descriptions. Even Midwood Flats (which is NOT the sister restaurant, fyi) doesn't have a good red selection. Someone who knows wine pls help these whiskey guys out!

I want this place to succeed, I'm from the neighborhood and the more the merrier, but why would a new place turn away new customers for "last call" at 11:15? Or refuse us a drink at the bar at 4:30 before dinner service? There are so many new spots in the area it doesn't make any sense for a place of that size to limit themselves so much and be so inflexible. I have a feeling the owner isn't around at all because it seems like nobody there cares about the longevity of the company much. Oh well. Both times I attempted to go I ended up at a better, new place so thanks! I gave it two stars because it looks like it would've been nice.

It would have been great if the manager didn't try to rush us out of the restaurant. We would have ordered more food and drinks but they didn't ask if we wanted dessert. Was it because we were black?

I like the ambience and the vibe; I appreciate there's a fireplace and small outdoor patio and knife classes and all those twee little 'Brooklyn' things that all the [new] inhabitants of this neighborhood want. you did a good job of creating a Williamsburg-ish staple in Lefferts - success (?) a sign of the changing times, for sure, but I'll give you another shot. mostly cuz I can smell that burger from across the room...

this place is basically fine, it is good that it exists, but meh. definitely don't "go here for dinner" because the food is not great and you can spend as much (if that's what you're looking to do, yknow sit in a place that has chairs and waiters etc) at a couple of the other ones and get much better food. not that it's bad. but also, and more importantly, the place itself feels oddly flattened, everything too far away and all the wood somehow looking like wallpaper. it was as if the owners weren't going for "brooklyn bougie" so much as some kind of out of towner cable tv "best bars in the usa" viewer would picture, based on that show. as if the entire building was the equivalent of an electric fireplace.

Thanks!

My first experience here for brunch. I'll say everyone was friendly, however nati was the reason for 5 stars. Great service with a smile attention to detail and efficient. Food was good, drinks as well, clean place and overall a great experience.

This has been my staple local for my whole time living in the area. I almost to weep now I'm leaving. Awesome food, amazing bar staff. Good times.

Food was good, reasonable prices, pretty good drinks, but very, very nice staff and service. Recommend the dumpling appetizer, bahn mi salad, BLT and the chocolate banana bread pudding was amazing.

great ambiance. my friend and I came here for dinner and beers.
