I'm a fan. On the advice of some trusted sources, I decided to swing by and see what all the fuss was about. The minute I rolled in, they could sense I was a first-timer and subsequently, I was offered samples of almost everything behind the counter. I settled on the most popular selling item, the Chicken Salad sandwich on Costanzos sub roll. Holy Great Tasting Sub, Batman! The reviews below are right. There is something about the consistency of the mayo, chicken, etc that makes this a delight to eat. Very tasty. And the roll is the closet thing to what they sell at my favorite all-time bread/sub place, Jimmy Johns. SUPER fresh and soft. MMM! MMM! The owners/workers are super nice and it's worth checking them out for lunch, dinner or even just for reasonably priced deli meats/cheeses. Depew Deli & Grocery FTW !!!

I've visited this New York Style/Mediteranean influenced deli more than a few times and was met each time with good food and friendly service. Despite peak service hours they manage to deliver fresh food quickly. How quickly? "Dayum Fast!" They offer a full deli which means sandwiches, subs and salads as well as cold cuts by the pound and fish frys. Prices are very reasonable and their portion sizes are generous. Altogether a really good value. Parking is limited but there's additional parking nearby. Worth the trip.

I was out with my brother in the Lancaster area and we wanted to get a quick lunch. He lit up and said, "The Depew Deli." I was skeptical. I'm not big on deli meats or sandwiches and the exterior (and the interior) didn't exactly stay step in and try us. But he insisted and I'm so glad he did. The owners are amazingly friendly and offered me a sample of their chicken salad. You should understand this is something I ordinarily loathe. One bite and I was hooked. Out of this world. My wrap was phenomenal. My brother went with a hot ham sandwich and said it was fantastic. I can't remember why now, but we also sampled their meatballs which were to die for. I just wish this was closer to where I lived and worked, but I may need to make a trip back.

Sugar. Spice. And everything nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect chicken salad. But Professor Utonium accidentally added an EXTRA INGREDIENT to the concoction.... CHEMICAL X. And thus the spicy chicken salad sandwich was born! Seriously this deli is great! They are very friendly, and this being my second time trying their delicious food, I'll be back sooner rather than later!

Extremely clean place, walking in this was the first thing I had noticed. The owner "Willie" was wonderful from his peppy positive attitude to the quality of food he prepares! They have daily lunch specials and homemade salads and antipasto etc. They have a flat screen television and some tables in the deli area which is a very decent size! They are currently in the process of expanding to accommodate more people with a large dining area! (Freshly painted and hardwood floor!) Everything about this place screams quality guess service! The owner talked about how he moved from NYC and how the "famous chicken salad" is a top seller. I mean I could not believe how friendly the owners were! They gave samples (without me asking) of the homemade chicken salad and chicken cutlet! Absolutely delicious!! They use Costanzo's sub rolls which is a bonus in my books. Found my new deli that's for sure, I love small business. So happy I decided to come into here!! Do yourself a favor and stop in just once! Willie and his wife will gladly make sure that you leave with a smile on your face!

This place is amazing. The best place to eat in area. Willy, May and Eric definitely go out of their way to provide the best customer service possible. They are not lying when they say they have the best chicken salad. I usually eat here 3-4 times a week.

Great place. Willy and May are super freindly. Simple, clean and good selection. Plenty of space to eat it. Their specialty /signature item is the chicken salad, and this is about the best chicken salad you'll ever have. Get it on a costanzo's roll. My gf didn't even know what chicken salad was, and now she's hooked! Solid breakfast sandwiches, meatball parm sub. You won't be disappointed!

I go here on occassion for lunch because it is close to my office. The place is clean, the people are friendly, the food is good, and the prices are fair. I typically get the chicken cutlet sandwich and it has yet to dissappoint me. I highly reccommend.

This Deli is located in a church. The deli counter is right next to depew. Get it. Depew. OK. Moving on. I have to say this is one of those places which I do not understand the fascination and obsession from so many of my friends regarding. It's a clean, spacious, airy, bright deli with some of the friendliest service around, but given that I judge places solely on food, I can't possibly give this deli more than a 3/5, although for service it would get a 5. The only thing I've tried is the thing that everyone and their mother tells you to try which is the Chicken Salad Sandwich. The bread was fluffy and good, but that's where the love affair ended. The chicken salad was utterly tasteless and bland and boring and honestly inedible to me. I didn't finish it and would never get it again. The person I was eating with liked it a bit more than I did, but not much. I could understand if this was just one person's fave sandwich, but the fact that the place makes it their selling point and that everyone that loves this place, seems to love it because of this sandwich, perplexes me. Clearly it is just "not my thing", but I find it amazing that it would be anyone's thing. Nevertheless, it's a matter of taste and just because this is not to my taste, doesn't mean it won't be to yours. I will have to go back and give some other items a try, but when everyone is raving about one thing (including the sign out front, and the owners and employees), and that one thing is so underwhelming, it's hard to expect other things to be better. But perhaps if I order some things that I know I like at other delis, that I may be able to bump this place up to a 4 or 5. But since this place seems so shiny and new, I will say what they say in India: there's always room for a New Delhi.

The sandwiches and subs here are INCREDIBLE. Such friendly, friendly people run the place too -- it's a treat to go in. If it's your first time, let them know and if they are not busy, they'll take some time to really show you what the place is about. Their big specialty is the chicken salad sandwich. I had a chance to try just the chicken salad and it was AMAZING. The onions leave a great crunch and the poultry tastes fresh and is seasoned very well. It practically melts in your mouth. Supposedly, they sell 30-40 pounds of it per day! They were closed when I pulled up, but May -- one of the owners let me in and made me an amazing chicken cutlet sandwich with tomato, onion and mayo. The chicken cutlets were once again super tender, lightly breaded and tasted perfectly. All 3 owners moved from NYC to start this NY deli about 4 years ago and they do a great job running it. I can't wait to be back and try more of their menu and to have an entire chicken salad sandwich all to myself. If you haven't been and are a fan of sandwiches/subs, you HAVE TO give this place a try. Their chicken salad sandwich is the best one you're going to find in Buffalo.

Greatest deli in WNY! What makes it off the charts is the owners who operate it daily! Willie and Mae. You will not meet nicer folks. They make it an awesome experience each and every time you step into this NYCity style deli. Breakfast and lunch sandwiches are awesome, and Willie is always willing to make any changes that you request from their special board. Mae makes the world famous chicken salad which she will always offer first time customers a sample of. Eric is the perfect accompaniment to this dynamic duo. Enjoy!!!

Winter is icumen in, Lhude sing Goddamm, Raineth drop and staineth slop, And how the wind doth ramm! Sing: Goddamm. --From Ancient Music by Ezra Pound How true these words ring after the recent Lake Effect Blast which rent our fair City in twain. To the north of the band we had sunshine and an inch of snow. To the south...devastation and up to 8 FEET of heavy snow crippling many of our Towns and Villages. In the heart of this destructive force: the fair Village of Depew, and in the heart of the fair Village of Depew: Depew Deli & Grocery, a true culinary gem. While upon first glance this Deli does not seem out of the ordinary, typical of the average Deli in WNY. A deli counter packed with lunch meats, a few grocery items and a large eating area in the back. Yet hidden underneath this modest exterior is the finest chicken salad sandwich in WNY (as my convenient picture attached hereto attests) brought to you by two of the friendliest and nicest people you will ever meet: Willie and Mae. Perhaps we should take a minute and delve a bit into the omnipresent chicken salad sandwich (hereafter CSS). In its most simple guise CSS = chopped chicken + mayonnaise*. Should simplicity be your preference any local gas station will satisfy your craving. However, so many parts of this equation can be tweaked and fortified. Some people add additional ingredients like celery, onions, grapes, herbs and spices. You can try different breads, toasted or untoasted. Even the chicken can be manipulated as large chunks or eviscerated to a mush. Depew Deli's CSS is the Platonic ideal of the simple CSS. First off they eviscerate the chicken and vegetables (onions/celery) for minimal chew/maximum solidarity and uniform flavor. The Costanzo's roll is perfect which has a bit of crust on the outside, but mushy on the inside. However, the real key to this sandwich is the binder. I am going to guess it is a mayo/cream cheese mix (I'm probably wrong) that is so creamy and delicious. They do not try and overdo the sandwich with too many ingredients or flavored mayos, which is why this sandwich is so great. There is just something about foods that are very easy to chew (think chopped salad/casseroles/mac and cheese) that are just innately satisfying. (Have fun working that one out Freudians) This is a simple sandwich, done simply and I order it every chance I can get. Therefore, imagine my horror when I recently drove by and all of the windows were boarded up due to storm damage. I even saw poor Willie standing in the doorway obviously overwrought and overwhelmed. As the residents of New Orleans gathered together to save Willie Mae's Scotch House in the heart of the Treme after Katrina...let us remember that WNY has their own Willie and Mae who could use our love and assistance in this time of disaster. Keep Willie and Mae in your thoughts, and do not forget to stop by and try the CSS when they...DON'T JINX IT...reopen. Keep warm and carry on. *The mystery of mayonnaise...is how egg yolks, vegetable oil, vinegar (wine's angry brother), salt, sugar (earth's primal grin-energy), lemon juice, water, and, naturally, a pinch of the ol' calcium disodium EDTA could be combined in such a way as to produce a condiment, so versatile, satisfying, and outright majestic that mustard, ketchup and their ilk must bow down before it (though at two bucks a jar, mayonnaise certainly doesn't put on airs) or else slink away in disgrace. Who but the French could have wrought this gastronomic miracle? Mayonnaise is France's gift to the New World's muddled palate, a boon that combines humanity's ancient instinctive craving for the cellular warmth of pure fat with the modern, romantic fondness for complex flavors: mayo (as the lazy call it) may appear mild and prosaic, but behind it's creamy veil it fairly seethes with tangy disposition. Cholesterol aside, it projects the luster that we astro-orphans have identified with well-being ever since we fell from the stars. --Tom Robbins
