Great local place with variety and good selection of New Mexican food and diner-type favorited.

The burgers are delicious, but I do not eat there any more because the entire work staff are RUDE! If you are Latino, or Black, or any ethnic minority, then do not go there because they will ignore you and wait on white customers first. I am not kidding. They at not civil, or nice. They only chat up the white folk. It is sad to see. It is quite revolting! It's 2015, not 1966! I do not recommend this restaurant at all.

You need to know what to expect when coming here- this is a true grill. You'll go up to the counter and place your order. They'll call you when it's done and you pick it up. I had the breakfast burrito with green chilli and it was decent. The tortilla was pretty hard in places, but I are around it and it was fine. I don't like the little potatoes, but I think that's just personal preference. The burrito is huge, so only order one. My kids got bacon- they give you lots of it, but it wasn't a good cut. The scrambled eggs were a little runny, so if you like them well done you might mention that when you order. Staff was nice and would probably accommodate any way they could. Decaf coffee was a little stale, but I also like my coffee weak. Not a bad breakfast stop.

Not great. Not bad either. Just kind of "meh". I ordered the migas while my wife ordered the burrito. The burrito had everything the migas had (except the bacon), and it was half the price. The burrito is definitely enough to fill you up. They could use a little bit of spice in their cooking as I found everything to be a little bland. Beware if the hot sauce they serve with these dishes. It has great flavor, but whoa...hot. A little dab'll do ya. It's an order at the counter place, and you have to pick up the food and get your own coffee, which isn't a bad thing...just a heads-up. I think for out next breakfast, we'll search other places while we're here.

What is the appeal? Obnoxious P.A. calling Names for.pickup....small portions of cafeteria-esque chow....clientele that looks like it was told 'The Miracle Cure' could be had as a Lunch Special.. No such luck.

Good food at a great price! So many over priced restaurants in Ruidoso. I had the steak and enchiladas with a fried egg on top New Mexico style. Mmm...good. Both of my cousins loved their food as well. I couldn't stop staring at the breakfast menu so much so I came back the following morning and was blown away by the portions. This is exactly what I needed before I hit the mountain for some snowboarding.

Stopped in after an excrutiating round of golf at Rainmakers Golf Course - which is an outstanding golf course that will test you at every turn....Starved beyond recognition, Lincoln County Grill delivered. Admittedly, the P.A. system may be off-putting but the food is excellent. Burgers were the choice of the day and they were excellent (green chili enhanced of course) and ginormous. Heard their breakfast is out of this world so I will be back to try some of their morning eats.

I try to stop there every time I'm in ruidoso! Green Chile Chicken Fried Steak and Lincoln County Biscuits & Gravy are both great! My wife always gets the Ranch Hand Breakfast which is also very good. I have not tried the burger yet, but it always looks super good. It is definitely a "must eat" while you are in Ruidoso.

The cashier was a bit scattered and the line was very slow. The food was great but they forgot the ranch dressing to go with the chicken strips. We also placed a to-go order and she totally messed it up and put the salad in with the chicken fried steak after I specifically requested that it be placed in a separate container. They forgot to give us ketchup to go with the fries for the to-go order also. Who doesn't use ketchup with fries?! My husband and I ate here 4 years ago for breakfast while on our honeymoon and it was amazing. Not sure what happened in the meantime. It was a let down after I had really bragged to my daughter about how good it was.

The pancakes and hash browns are excellent. Our friends also love the green chile sauce on the chicken fried steak. Most of the other food is so/so. The Frito pie is horrible and the biscuits and gravy need some work-it all tasted like it was made the day (or week) before.

Come here if you want the Huevos rancheros. Otherwise go somewhere else. Soggy French toast and lukewarm eggs. Coffee is good.

Before coming here, my GF told me that she had been coming here for years and the food was excellent. We arrived at about 5:30 PM and the place was empty except for another patron. Bad sigh! After our meal, she was as disappointed as myself. The food was terrible. My beef tasted like a pair of sandals. Her chicken had no taste at all. The prices were high given what you get. The service was terrible. The guy working the counter was too busy talking and joking around with the cooks to pay any attention to us. Terrible terrible experience!!

Me and my girlfriend ordered chicken fried steaks and we both weren't too pleased with our food. I finished mine, she didn't eat anything besides her Texas toast (which was good). The negative things we came across was that the chicken fried steak tasted like Dairy Queen steak fingers, the gravy looked like water, our salad dressing was gross, the mashed potatoes were dry and the fries were cold. Maybe we just ordered at the wrong time, I'm not too sure. I've read some good reviews on this restaurant so maybe we're just picky and used to the South Texas food that we were raised on.

Friendly staff, quick service at counter. Huevos Rancheros was amazing. Green sauce had great flavor and most importantly, A GREAT KICK. Loved it. Place was busy so it speaks volumes to the food. Keep it up.

If rating this place solely on food I would rate them 5 stars!!!!! Giving them a 4 based on so so service. The lady working the cashier is NOT friendly at all. She was helping the cook cut food then wiped her hands quickly to work the cashier. I ordered the Migas which was very tasty! I would go back for the food!

Awesome little spot in Ruidoso, on the main road. The food's very good and you get plenty of it. My wife had the green chile chicken fried steak (!) and ate it all. I had the Billy the Kid burger, which was loaded and huge (and it was the smaller option!) and had jalapenos and green chiles. Hot! But good. Note that it doesn't come with fries though, you have to get them separate. The chicken strips for the kids were decent. Good sized deck outside, though flies were a mild problem in late July. Oh, and they were out of the day's special, meatloaf, so that docks them a star.

  • Keith B.

The lady working the cash register is rude and not friendly. I was trying to explain what I wanted and I did not hear her ask for my name and she looked at me again and said "name". Also, did not like the green beans. The pot roast, mash potatoes brown gravy and green chili corn bread was good.

This is not exactly four star worthy, but I do believe better than a three and more deserving of a 3.5 star rating.....this is why: If only rating on the food- then 4 stars most definitely. During our visit today we had the 1/2 lb chile relleno burgers with side of sweet potato fries and some bacon cheddar fries as an appetizer- along with a hamburger steak special. The special was accompanied by green beans, mashed potatoes, Texas toast, and a small side salad. The food truly was tasty and all at the table were very satisfied with their meals. The chile rellenos were cooked to perfection and the crispy batter was awesome! My lunch guests said that their meals were equally great (pictures to be posted) We went later in the afternoon- so they were not busy at all- which was great because it is an order at the counter establishment....as sometimes it is difficult with ordering at a counter, during a lunch rush, unless you know exactly what you want- otherwise you can feel pressured and rush to make a decision so to not hold up the line. I will say that while the food was tasty- it was probably a little more pricey than one would prefer to pay- but, it is a touristy town and expected. The meal mentioned above was $40.46 which included two drinks. Menus are posted outside the entrance if you should want to swing by and see if something appeals to you before having to go inside and fully commit. The menu boasts burgers, classic favorites such as roast beef, chicken fried steak, a few Mexican food items, breakfast foods, and more.... Because it is an order-at-the-counter, do not expect to be waited on, and the staff really are not as warm and as friendly as one would hope; especially when working a counter- though I'm going to chalk it up to the fact that maybe they just aren't spoken to very often, because as we did engage in conversation with them they did seem a bit surprised to be spoken to outside of having to take an order at the counter. The really annoying thing that I will have to agree on with some of the negative reviews, was, yes, we had to fight off flies during our meal- which is such a pain! The outside seating, and a door leading to the patio, with an issue of not seeming to close completely is what contributed to the flies populating inside the restaurant. We started to ask for a fly swatter so that we could fend them off ourselves but decided to just deal with it because we were too consumed with our meals! Honestly, though, no one wants to have to fend off flies while eating, unless you are at an outside bar-b-que is it acceptable or rather tolerated.....so it would be ideal and much appreciated by the patrons if the staff could take heed to the door closing at the patio or invest in some fly swatters, or ziplock bags with the water and penny trick. This is truly a local grill- so do not expect to have a 5 star dining experience with white table cloths and such. It is not perfect and sparkling clean- but, the food is good and I would definitely come back to eat again (flyswatter in hand) which I think speaks for itself.

This place is pretty much the bomb if you are looking for some authentic home cooked New Mexican food. There are green chiles on just about everything, and they cook great food to begin with, so you're in luck. Decor is kind of Southwestern kitsch, and somewhat spartan. There's a nice deck section, and this looks out over Sudderth where you can see traffic zip by on their way to and from Mid-Town.

Two of us went for dinner the other day and it was packed. There is a lot of local lore related to this place, and they seem to be famous for their New Mexican food and chicken fried steak. My son had the chicken fried steak which appeared to be overdone on the outside, yet it was cold, Later stomach problems seemed to be related to this meal. I had the green chile chicken enchiladas with a fried egg on top; a New Mexican staple. My plate was certainly hot but the chicken was diced and tough, the green chile was bland (I had better at Blake's Lotaburger for Pete's sake), and the overall flavor was, well, bleh. The egg was great! There is a diner kind of atmosphere, it's kind of a cool place but you won't find me darkening the door of the Lincoln County Grill anytime soon.

This place is BAD,hamburger sucks, green chili stew is more of a topping, BBQ cold and burnt, the meal for the BBQ plate was wrong, I highly recommend this place be avoided, lots of other places to spend your money, and people at counter complaining of lost orders, my daughter liked the French fries!

Decent place. Good burgers. Staff could be friendlier. Average and better than most chain alternatives.

We had an absolutely horrible experience here. I guess we should have picked up the hints (the staff are all Latino) and stuck with Mexican dishes, but we were in the mood for American food, of which there was plenty on the menu. Unfortunately, it was as close to inedible as I've experienced in a very long time. The BBQ was burned, the gravy made me nauseous, the mashed potatoes we mediocre. My wife left most of her food untouched. The only thing they couldn't screw up was my son's fries.

This place is great! The breakfast were the best we've had in as long as I can remember. I had the Migas.. Torn between that and Sean's Hash all the way to the last minute. Got a side of sweet potato Pancakes which my wife described as "Christmas in your mouth"

I'm not used to going to restaurants where you have to go to the counter and order. And then I'm just there waiting for 8 minutes before anyone says anything to me. They have nerve to have a tip jar? My tip is get better employees who know about customer service! Ordered the taco salad; the lettuce was fresh and green but I digged my way to the bottom and the ground beef was greasy 70% lean, which is the cheapest. And it was not cooked properly, it was very pale meat with no flavor whatsoever. Needless to say I did not finish the meal, that was a waste of 7.75. Next time I'll go to McDonald's for a 7 dollar salad. My partner ordered a burger, very greasy, they put 2 hunks of fried green chile, which over powered everything. He wasn't satisfied.

This place was terrible. We ordered several different versions of chicken fried steak between 3 family members. So how can you screw up chicken fried steak? Easy. Burn the steak and then try to bury it in a mountain of gravy. The sides had no flavor at all. Last family member ordered the pork chops. He did not expect the pork chop "jerky" he received. Avoid this place. You've been warned.

This place is a staple breakfast for me on every trip to Ruidoso. The flare of green chilis is one of my favorite things about New Mexico, and Lincoln County does not disappoint in providing that fix. I always have the Green Chili Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs for breakfast. A Chicken Fry smothered with a green chili gravy/sauce. Give 'er a try!

Come here for the burgers: classic hand-formed patties, mustard and pickles all the way. The green chile cheeseburger is a winner, but there are lots of options for every burger-related craving. The chips are excellent! This is everything you want from a burger joint!

  • Jackie T.

I had the Green Chili burger with fries. First thing I noticed when I picked it up was my bun was frozen! I figured I would suffer through that and try the burger anyway. It was completely devoid of flavor. The fries were good and crunchy. Staff was friendly.

So good, we came back for another round! Breakfast is superb. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs. Hubby had the green chile version. Both were excellent. The kids split a big pancake breakfast and had more than enough between them. My only complaint is the stress of finding a seat. Several parties behind us in line grabbed tables before ordering so we had to stand awhile and finally got a place to sit just before the food came. My advice? Have someone stand in line to order and someone stalk a booth/table! Courtesy obviously goes out the window here! Your consolation prize is one of the best breakfasts In all of Ruidoso! Good luck!

Yelp 100 Challenge 2013- 27/100 I had breakfast here while visiting this area for work. Unfortunately, my breakfast experience wasn't pleasant. I ordered two eggs and sweet potato pancakes. Now, I was excited to try their sweet potato pancakes. Sadly, my excitement turned into disappointment when I found an entire cracked egg shell in my pancakes (No joke- see the picture I posted). I can totally understand if a little piece of the egg shell turned up--stuff happens. However, an entire egg shell is just plain careless and flat out unacceptable. I quickly alerted the cooks and counter cashier of my findings. The cashier sincerely apologized and alerted management (which was a plus- and that's why I gave them 2 stars vs 1 star). They made a fresh order of sweet potato pancakes to replace the ones I had originally ordered. By that time, I had simply lost my appetite. Besides, do I really want to eat these pancakes after I know how careless the cooks are? Ummmm... No.

Stopped by here on the way through Ruiddoso. My friend and I both had the Lincoln county burgers. These things were huge! Fresh vegetables and Green Chile piled high. Burger was ok. The charm of the restaurant was that off a hipster diner. Staff was friendly and the food quick.

This place used to have the best Huevos Rancheros in Ruidoso. Today was truly awful. The corn tortillas were stale, the breakfast potatoes were old and cold, the frijoles were bland and cold as well. As I was trying to give feedback, the owner who was in earshot didn't even acknowledge my presence or constructive criticism and couldn't bother to respond. Very sad as we used to salivate all the way from Dallas for these Huevos Rancheros. We will not be returning !

Small, quaint, home style dinner. The service and is lunch counter style. The seating is very limited, so be prepared to wait during rush times. Big portions with low prices. If you go for breakfast get the sweet potato pancakes they a nice change from the norm.

Hungry Man's Mexican plate is better than this 30 seconds in the microwave meal. We resorted to this place after not much luck finding an open restaurant on New Years Day. You walk into an order, sit, then wait for your food type restaurant. The menu includes burgers, fries, chicken strips, and Tex-Mex plates. I ordered the New Mexico plate... the refried beans were straight from a can, the meat looked like it was prepared days ago and placed in water to prevent dryness, the rice was dry, and all topped with what looks to be nuked cheese...oh wait, it was nuked because that was the first thing I noticed when I was placing my order. At least nuke it a little bit longer than enough to melt the cheese.

Common. Unremarkable. Dirty. Lots of flies. Black mold in the ketchup bottle. Discovered it afterwards.

Hubby & I took off for breakfast while the family slept. Doesn't seem to be much choice for breakfast in Ruidoso. We chose Lincoln County Grill based on other reviews. We must have caught them on a bad day because we had a less than stellar experience. First, no greeting as we entered and looked around at menus on the walls and the tourist racks (obviously not from here). We were not informed and there was no sign indicating that we were suppose to order first & then sit. We waited at a table for several minutes before figuring it out. Directions to restrooms are also not posted and I was directed to the ice tea when asked (?). Now the food. Hubby ordered green chili & sausage biscuit with gravy. It was like a sausage &grn chili "cinnamon roll" with obviously packaged gravy. Just o.k. I had the "special" chef's hash. The "slow-roasted" beef in the hash was dry, as were the potatoes. Overall, not impressed.

Agreed with the first reviewer... good food... good prices... green chiles abound. I used to frequent their location in Plano, TX, but it is no longer. It was fantastic (5 stars, IMHO), especially for breakfast (I went almost every Sunday morning). Going to the original in Ruidoso was very nostalgic. It is not nearly as big, but has a "homier" feel to it. I will definitely make a stop here every time I'm in Ruidoso. Go for the Green Chile Chicken-Fried Steak & Eggs. Solid dish.

10 yrs ago the food was pretty good, and the customer service was ok, and the parking lot always full. Now, its not. Plain and simple, its gone to hell in a handbasket. The people behind the counter are RUDE RUDE RUDE (and expect a tip at the counter, when you make your own drink, order your own food at the register and go and pick it up when its ready..i think NOT)...anyway, the food is just "ok" to "poor" its way over priced and the place is just "mehh" in ambiance..the outside is always dirty with a ton of flies...i've seen a roach twice in past visits (always in the bathroom). We havent been in 2 yrs, used to be a place we went 2 - 3 times a week, then once a visit, then...none. And we arent the only ones. This July, it was deserted..parking lot empty...and this was all day, lunch, dinner, just dead. Word has traveled Lincoln County Grill....owners take notice, people look at these reviews, and while you may get a customer or 2 who do not, and they might try it once or twice, you will most likely lose them sooner than later for the same reasons you lost these customers.

DISGUSTING! Had lunch at Lincoln County Grill this past weekend. I had been numerous times before (it's been 6 years or so) and always thought it was decent enough. But it was downright TERRIBLE. There wasn't one good aspect, sans maybe being able to drink a beer. The lady taking the order wasn't nice at all, and seemed really annoyed that my wife asked how many choices she had for the Veggie plate (god forbid they actually put that on the board). The kitchen in the background was a sight to see. If you are scared of bad kitchens I wouldn't suggest going here. Watching the cook handle raw meat with no gloves on, then proceed to prepare other food without gloves or without washing should have been the sign to get out. So I ordered simple chicken nachos, thought that would be easy enough and hard to mess up, but I was wrong. It was chips and beans (note, just beans, not refried beans that go on nachos), a SPRINKLE of cheese and some sort of chicken. I've never seen chicken like this before. Had a weird color and was really gritty and slimy at the same time. I tried to overlook this, but couldn't go any further with the multiple pieces of hair spread throughout. My wife was served cold mashed potatoes, and stale veggies. Walked out feeling sick. AWFUL place and will never go back. There are dozens of better places in Ruidoso, so even if you need a quick bite for lunch like we did, do NOT go here.
