This place was great! Fast clean and fresh. As to the girl from Houston; I lived in California for 30 years and never had a burrito with potatoes in one! The salsa was nice and zippy, I like that they put it in a syrup picture so as no to waste any. And as to the guy from California who complained about the hours...... It's a small family owned place, if there are no customers closing early will happen!

Good food. Great green chili! Price are reasonable and this family owned restaurant has a friendly staff.

Local tasty Mexican food with moderate to inexpensive prices. We enjoyed a late lunch and thankfully gave this place a chance over the gross alternatives (fast food) all around. I got a great veggie dish with eggs and my mom got a chicken enchilada. Everything was fresh. Salsa was especially good.

Terrible customer service. I had to wait 5 minutes to be serve a beverage after I sat down. Booth was dirty - both seats and table. I asked them to add potatoes to the Carne asada burrito to make a version of a California burrito for those of you that know what that is and they refused. They would only do it if I purchased a whole side basket of fries! It only takes 3-4 fries to add to a burrito. So much for customer service!! The chips are not fresh - borderline stale. Took a very long time to get my food. Meat and rice were overcooked. I'm guessing the only reason they get business is because it's a small town and there aren't many options. Therefore good service and good food are not priorities. This restaurant would never survive in an urban environment. I'd choose any other place in town over this joint

We spend the summers in Ogallala- we frequent them at least once a week! GOOD service and GOOD food. Minimal wait for a table and sometimes loud but worth it!!

Vegans- don't bother. Their beans have lard, their guacamole has mayonnaise (what?? Yuck). When I told the waitress I was a vegetarian who also couldn't have cheese she said "there's nothing you can eat here." Strictly speaking, I'm sure I could have put something together, but since she didn't seem interested, neither did I.

Very cheerful -- interior decor and people. Food is very good; more on the authentic side than fancy or innovative style. Salsa is non-fancy puree with decent kick, and chips were fresh and warm. My wife liked her Virgin Margarita. Usual selection of Mexican beers. Saying that it is the best Mexican restaurant in town would be damning it with faint praise.

Thank you, Yelps, for helping us find excellent Mexican in the middle of nowhere. (Sorry Ogallalans!) The handsome partner and I were driving cross-country from Eastern PA to SLC, UT and were really craving something NOT fast food or rest stop-y(tm). Turning to the Yelps, as always, we found this little gem on the frontage road along I-80. The food was quick and tasty, with portions more suitable to dinner than a quick mid-day bite (oh, don't worry, we ate it all and then some). Plus the salsa was homemade with genuine kick (if a slightly off-putting texture) and the chips were warm and, I'm pretty sure, fresh out of the . . . fryer? Pan? Chip-maker? How do people make tortilla chips, anyway? Anyhoo. Delicious.

Unfortunately, this is the first bad restaurant review I've ever been compelled to write. After slow service, orders that came 20 minutes apart for a party of 8, and multiple hairs found in the food, they rudely refused a reasonable request to take 15 percent off of a $90 bill. This repeat customer won't be back.

First of all, WTF kind of restaurant closes at 9pm? What is this, the year 1952? More importantly, when I arrived at 8:40pm, their OPEN sign was lit. Further, the hours posted outside clearly state that it closes at 9pm. However, the doors were locked. The hostess mocked me when I tried to open the locked door. Both frustrating and humiliating! Ughh!

Ok, so I'm giving this 5 stars based on the fact that this is NEBRASKA! When traveling I-80, this state is one of my least faves. I'm vegetarian and eat as much organic, non-GMO food as possible. We had a great dinner here of cheese enchiladas & Margarita's. Now, I'm from CA, where this restaurant might get 3 stars, but out in the middle of BFE, this place is an Oasis! Really fun, colorful atmosphere and very nice server/service. Very easy access right off I-80.

I normally don't write reviews because I feel like some restaurants deserve a second chance but because I am on vacation I will give my thoughts. I have to say that I was not impressed. First of all they don't have an alcohol license. They recently moved into a NEW location and the license didn't carry over from the old into the new. So dont put put drink menus. Nothing was posted throughout the Restaurant. Service was sub par. Waiter was tired of people asking for alcohol. Food was OK. I don't recommend the Chile relleno. It was a Chile wrapped in a fried egg? Tortillas i think are homemade, defiantly a plus.

If you're looking for "authentic" Mexican food, cut the folks at Mi Ranchito in Ogallala a break. This is still Tinytown, Nebraska. But don't let the white, Middle-America waitresses fool you. There's a genuine Mexican couple cooking the food (and mixing the margaritas) in the back. I was leery, myself. I've done "fine Mexican food" in small towns before, and found it barely edible. But there were a lot of cars outside Mi Ranchito. Once inside, it was clear that some of the diners were refugees from I-80, like me, but even more were locals. They turned down Taco Bell in favor of Mi Ranchito. Yes, that's a good sign. My waitress was prompt taking my drink order and bringing me the basket of tortilla chips and bottle of salsa (first serving free; seconds cost $1.50). The smooth, red salsa had some kick. A few minutes later, when she delivered my peach margarita (on the rocks, with a sugared rim), she set down a bowl of milder, chunkier, fresh salsa. Both were very tasty. I wasn't surprised by the orange, quasi-cheddar cheese stuffed into my enchiladas suizas, but the corn tortillas were good and the green chili kicked some excitement into them. The rice was bland, as is so often the case with Mexican rice, but the refried beans were great. Then there's that margarita...this thing had real tequila in it! I was only half through it before I felt a little buzz. I've sucked down many an Applelbees "best" margarita and left perfectly sober. Mi Ranchito wasn't having any of that. That peach margarita tasted great and packed a punch. You're not risking much trying Mi Ranchito in Ogallala. The food is good, the service good, the drinks great. Go for it.

On 3/10/2014 a group of 4, 22-23 year olds from Minnesota stopped here on our way back from a ski trip in Colorado. Upon arrival the waitress/host didn't say a god damn word. After we got seated, we told them that we were just stopping for a margarita and some chips and salsa. After, the mute waitress checked our ID's and order then she went back for a good 5 minutes. She came out and said the manager/owner needed to see our ID's to double check. We gladly understood, especially myself who has bartended in Minneapolis for 3 years. She took our ID's to the back. After another 5 minutes she walks out and said our ID's didn't pass their "scanner". I became a little furious and asked to bring the manager out so I could ask him myself. This guy walks out and try's to explain that our ID's didn't pass their ID "scanner". He also began to say our ID's were fake. That's when we became IRRATE as we pull out credit cards, social security cards and college ID's that state majority of the same information. I then told him that I would be contacting the authority's and better business bureau about our awful experience. Long story short we didn't get serve, extremely unhappy with service and "owner", but on the bright side we took a killer Christmas Card photo in their colorful booths. Don't go here unless you need a Christmas Card Photo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
