Hands down the best bowl of Pho in town! I've been visiting this place for about 8 years now. I also recommend their BBQ pork noodle dish! Amazing food every time.

Most visited Vietnamese restaurant in Lincoln for me! Actually stopped by for lunch today and I enjoy almost everything they have to offer. Only thing "bad" I would say is to improve their boba or bubble tea. Love their boys, they're always welcoming and have great service right when I walk in to when I leave the door.

After drinking far too much the night before, I knew the only thing that would cure me of my ails is a delicious, hot bowl of pho. I arrived at around 11:30 on a Sunday morning. There were only a few other patrons there at the time and service was great. Upon the server's recommendation, I tried a medium-sized bowl of the grilled pork pho. He said this was added to the menu at the request of diners. The pho was delivered promptly. The broth was much darker than at other places I have been to, but was absolutely amazing. Slightly salty, but I figured that would definitely help my hangover. The grilled pork surprised me, as it had a slight sweetness to it. I'm not sure if it's marinated or rubbed with a sweet glaze, but it was brilliantly charred and delicious. The charred bits even held up well to the broth and provided a nice contrast in textures. I had to ask for a fork because I'm normally not bad with chopsticks but I was too hungover to properly function without slopping noodles all over me. Next time I'm in Lincoln I'll be stopping here again. Best pho I have had so far in Nebraska.

The pork sandwiches are really good. Great price. The pho is flavorful too but a bit overpriced. The staff is friendly. They also have bubble tea. Which I will try next time :)

I live in Omaha and I regularly come here for Pho because it is that much better than any place in Omaha. And before I lived in Omaha I used to live in SoCal near the mecca of Pho called Fountain Valley/Westminster so my standards for Pho are pretty high yet VT is right on par with the great pho I enjoyed in Cali. Out of the three Pho places I have tried in Lincoln, Vung Tau is my favorite. With PN the broth is too greasy and the service isn't all that great. The noodles at PF don't taste fresh and have a bit of that starchy/talcum like taste and the broth lacks a full depth of flavor. VT has it on point, broth is perfect, just the right amount of grease in the broth to feel hearty but still tastes fresh and has a bit of sweetness along with a million other flavors I cant describe. If you feel like doing something outside of Pho, their Bun Bo Hue is probably the best I had, and their rice plates are also very good. But to round off the 5 star rating is their friendly and speedy service. The guys here really know how to take care of their guests and I never have to wait too long for the food to arrive.

From all my experiences with pho in Lincoln, Vung Tau has the best tasting broth and selection of Vietnamese food. The vegetables they have are always fresh and "herbaceous" (quoting Mark Wiens on how he says it in his YouTube videos). The service here is always welcoming and they accommodate with what your preferences are.

Excellent food! I have had bun noodles at Issara and pho factory and this is by far the best. I recommend mixing hoisin sauce with sriracha, makes like a BBQ sauce and is really good when mixed in. The only complaint is it took me 3 times to actually eat here. First their hours were listed wrong on the website and the other two were holidays for them, like a new year so make sure to check that they are open that day when heading down

Again, a third great stop for Pho in Lincoln. Lincoln is 3/3 on my pho tour, while Omaha is still at a sad 0/3. Therefore, while visiting family in Lincoln, we are always sure to make a stop at one of the great pho establishments they have there. I am aware Lincoln has a larger Vietnamese population than Omaha does so it is not surprising that they have better pho too. Vung Tau's broth is clear and oil free. The aroma is healing in itself, that is, if you have any sort of ailment (a cold, a hangover, etc). I did think it had a bit of a sweet taste which was not bad, just a slightly different style than I am used to. What really impressed me was the meat in my combo bowl. There was not any extra meat or anything, but the cuts and cooked-ness (is that is word?) of the various meats in my bowl were wonderful. Thinly sliced and the texture was awesome I could tell they were slow cooked and cut with care. My bowl had brisket, flank, tendon, 2 kinds of tripe, and meatballs with tendon. Many times establishments can over or under cook (read: too chewy) tendon and tripe. This is a family run establishment and I would recommend them for your next pho craving.

Best pho restaurant in Nebraska! Driving from Omaha to Lincoln for this mighty delicious bowl of pho is well worth the drive. There are three sizes the pho is offered in: small, medium, and large. I always order the small. Always enough to fill my taste buds! The large is gigantic! They also have yummy boba! Yes!!! Haha and spring rolls. Yum! I want some pho now just thinking about this place!

  • Ken C.

Give this place a medal! The pho here is as good as it gets. If you are in a bad mood or you have a hung over or you just broke up with your wife, go there and get a bowl of their pho. it will "pho" sure make you happy again ;)

The bahn mi grilled pork sandwich was good and the bread was fresh. The small bowl of pho was pretty large and too much for my pre-teen to handle. However it was tasty and she ate all of the beef, noodles, and veggies inside. The only thing lacking in this casual resto is a kids menu of the same yummy adult choices. The food is so good, I didnt want to share! Please open a location in Omaha.

The Pho was nothing short of incredible, and pretty reasonably priced. My boyfriend and I got both our meals for just over $20. The atmosphere is very quaint and the service is swift and super friendly. Well worth the hour drive. I plan to return every time I'm in Lincoln.

Good pho and a decent amount of selection of dishes. The spring roll is fresh but the sauce is really boring. The price is reasonable and appropriate for the area and the decor. place looks clean for a hole in the wall place. It is definitely for a place carer to ethnic customers. The service is strange. It is obviously a family restaurant but it lacks any real business professionalism and enthusiasm. The wait staff pretty much only gets up when you ask for something. The wait staff are two boys and their friends. It's feels like a bit of an intrusion to someone's living room than a restaurant. The wait staff are fluent in conversation but standoffish. I chalk that up to youth and possibly lack of knowledge. Service is. It a focus here hence the 3 stars.

After a disappointing defeat for the Huskers, I needed something to cheer me up. The pho at Vung Tau definitely did the trick. A big bowl of warm noodles was just what the doctor ordered. The broth makes it one of the best pho in the area. It has very strong beef flavors so you know they put in time to make it just right. It wasn't too rich like other places that load their broth with MSG. This one was light and had a great herb tone to it. I also got Thai tea which just made my meal that much better. When I was paying, the chef came out and talked to me about the Husker game since I was still in Nebraska gear. Overall an awesome establishment.

First time eating here, I had the Vermicelli bowl with pork and egg rolls. It was delicious, this is one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes and can honestly say this was one of the best I've had. All the veggies were really fresh and the pork was seasoned nicely. I look forward to going back and trying out other items from the menu.

The pho is delicious. Has a very good tasting broth, which is what makes the pho. I had the # 07, which was steak round and flank. The sprouts, sliced jalapeños, and lime were very fresh tasting (I don't eat the mint leaves, which are included). There is Siracha and a homemade hot sauce on the table, which helped me turn up the heat of the pho. The homemade sauce has a very good flavor and has a nice kick to it. The pho could have used a bit more meat, but the broth and side veggies made up for it. I highly recommend eating here.

I'd really give this place a 3.5 if I could (Yelp! Allow half-star ratings!). It's probably the best Thai place in Lincoln, but that ain't saying too much. The exterior is pretty spartan, and many Lincolnites might call the place "ghetto," but that really means it's your typical working class/student neighborhood. The interior is well maintained, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I ordered the pork vermicelli, which was pretty good, with a little kick to it. They also had a chopped up egg rool mixed in with it, which was a plus. The meat and noodles were tasty, and the portion seemed pretty nice. I also ordered an avocado shake, which unfortunately came without bobas because they were out that day. Based on the food and service, I would be tempted to give this place 4 stars, but the prices were a little high relative to the quality of the food. The shake alone was like 4 bucks or something, for a regular size. Overall I think it was like 13 bucks without tip, which ain't bad, but I don't know. A good place, definitely great for Lincoln, but if you're from somewhere with legit Asian cuisine, you might find it only average.

Best pho ever!! Seriously the broth here is the most delicious you'll taste. Pho with chicken isn't on menu but I asked for it and substitution was no problem. Servers are always friendly. The bubble tea selection is also impressive and delicious. This has become a favorite dinner destination for me.

This was my first stop at at Vietnamese restaurant. In Lincoln for a weekend of work and my client wanted to take me out for lunch. He offered up the standard chains but I asked him where he would go if it was up to him. Great choice! I let him order for me, had the Pho 07 with round and flank steak along with a veggie banh mi. All of the veggies were so fresh. The spicy basil was amazing. Washed down the meal with some bubble tea. To note, I'm not a chopstick user. It was really hard to eat the Pho without making a mess of myself. Could have used a bib! Amazing food. If I make it back to Lincoln, I'd stop again.

Coming from southern California I had no idea what to expect. A co-worker told me about this fabulous place and decided to invite me to lunch so I went with an open mind. I was pleasantly surprised. It seems to be owned and run by Vietnamese people which is always a good sign. The menu had a great selection, a bit pricey in my opinion but probably just because of location. I had a small Pho Dac Biet. I was surprise when a huge plate of bean sprout and greens came out, I didn't even have that when I went to school at Humboldt (so A+). My pho was good, the broth was just right, lots of noddle (more than i'm use to) the meat was good. Only thing was the drink prices $4 for a shake? and like $3-4 for a smoothie with boba?! man if only Banh Mi Che Cali could offer to open shop here =D

    (4)
  • Albert C.

Probably the best pho I've ever had...in the Midwest. Way better than any place in Omaha. Personally, I would make the 45 mins to an hour drive every weekend if I could.

3.5 I'm always surprised that people are surprised that places like Vung Tau exist in cities like Lincoln. This is America: Vietnamese people have moved here and they're bummed out that their new neighbors are so into bullshit like Panera. I thought the kid who served us was very nice. I thought the food was pretty average. The broth on my "very spicy" soup wasn't oily or unpleasant, but it also wasn't very spicy or particularly tasteful. The beef and pork were fine, but I'd prefer more odd bits and texture. Overall, though, Vung Tau is a good sign. I doubt we can crush the meal reassembly and reheating factories (e.g. Red Robin and Olive Garden). But at least we're on our way to glory.

Overall this place probably has the best pho in Nebraska that isn't homemade. The x-large bowl can feed two people and they are generous with the meat, but like other places in Lincoln and omaha the pho broth has some sort of weird sour note to it. On the otherhand the com tam was pretty good. Not really the best broken rice dish and meatloaf that I've had, but the pork is pretty good. Overall the service is good and I left full, but don't come here expecting pho from cali or hawaii.

Can't say I had ever eaten Vietnamese before but my (then) "non-boyfriend" urged me to try it since he said it was amazing. I reluctantly said yes and when we drove up to the old looking building with parking in the back, I was seriously rethinking my submission to go. When I got inside and we were seated I looked over my menu and my "picky side" started to take over. When the server came over my "boyfriend" ordered this beef and noodle soup and then it was my turn. I asked what they could recommend a strictly chicken eater, he said he would bring me something good. I was not looking forward to what I was going to have to eat to impress him. When it came out, I was AMAZED at what was placed in front of me!! Perfectly grilled chicken breast ( with some char on it- yum!) -- wonderful seasoning and very moist and piping hot-- with peanuts atop vermecelli noodles, then a layer of julienned cucumbers, then a layer of crisp Romaine lettuce, and finally on the bottom bean sprouts. Crunchy, healthy, delicious, unexpected and fantastic! Now every time we go I only want that and it is to die for! I ask for some brown peanut sauce to dip my chicken and everything else in. But if you have a peanut allergy, they serve a fish sauce (sounds gross- but definitely not) that looks like sweet and sour sauce with chile flakes in it, kinda spicy but very good. Come hungry, they serve a lot of food!! I think it is reasonably priced and the people who work there are very polite and helpful. ***The moral : Don't judge a restaurant by the exterior!!! *** P.S. They are open Tuesday through Sunday; not open on Monday.

our go-to place for bbq pork and noodles. yum! edit: they jacked the prices on the menu by $1.50 recently, so lunch is now $13 with tax and tip. too spendy, dropping a star. consider having a lunch menu with lunch prices.

I had tried every Vietnamese restaurant in town and was pretty underwhelmed until I was recommended this place by a Vietnamese co-worker. Their pho, spring rolls, and bun's are amazing and the portions are quite generous. I usually get a small number 9 or 12 Pho and split an order of spring rolls. The pho broth has great flavor and they don't skimp on meat or noodles. They also supply plenty of basil, jalapenos, bean sprouts, and limes to accompany the steamy goodness. I've now been a regular for 5 years and the quality has remained solid. This is a great Vietnamese family restaurant! Updated to 5 stars as this place has just gotten better 7 + years I've been going

Solid bun and spring rolls. The facade and neighborhood leave much to be desired, but the restaurant is clean and service super friendly. If you're rolling through Lincoln and have maxed out on fast food and gas station snacks, this place is a nice, spicy, healthy alternative -- worth the detour!

I came here to try the Pho when another Yelper mentioned it was Pho Nguyen's main competitor. {Vietnamese Noodle Soup} I can't say I loved the Pho. It was all right. I can't put my finger on it, but it didn't hit me the same way. The broth was OK, the noodles were OK, and the meat was OK. They have one size bowls and come with very fresh side herbs. It was OK, but...not great. {Vermicelli Noodles w/Grilled Pork &Egg Rolls} I did NOT like this dish here. The grilled pork pieces were too big, as were the lettuce leaves. Thereby making it tougher than I would have liked to get all the ingredients in my mouth. I didn't enjoy the grilled pork flavor and their fish sauce didn't do anything spectacular to the dish. Eh. I didn't hate it, but I woudn't order it again... {Fresh Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls} The portion included two rolls and it was tasty. The texture of the rice paper wrap was right and the accompanying dipping sauce fit very well. I didn't have a bad time, but I didn't experience anything here that would draw me back. Maybe if someone else wanted to go, I'd join in.

Probably the best Vietnamese food you're going to get in all of Nebraska. It's much better then any of the places in Omaha. However, it's not some of the best Viet food I've ever had. Tried their Pho, Vermicelli bowl and rice dishes. All are solid dishes. As for their bubble tea, I'd highly recommend staying away from the avocado shake. Tasted more like powdered avocado then fresh.

    (3)
  • Brandon Y.

Prices are decent for the serving size of the pho you get. Bahn mi is dank and service was prompt. I highly recommend.

Great pho and vermicelli. The grilled pork hoagie is pretty awesome as well.

  • Yoko S.

I love their Bun (noodles without soup) and BBQ meats. Their flavor is really good. And you get enormous amount of food. As for Pho, I am not really keen on theirs. I think they put too much meat on the noodles. But if you like lots of meat, this may be good. For Pho, I go to Pho Nguyenn. The service is so so. The staff is not as friendly as Pho Nguyenn. But I keep coming back for their Bun.

Sometimes there are gems where you least expect them. Vung Tau is definitely one of them. If you're from Omaha and like pho or temporarily living in Omaha like I am then make the 45 min drive to Lincoln. You won't regret it. The pho here is aromatic and delicious. It blows anything in Omaha out of the water. It's not overly oily and it's not loaded with MSG. Best of all, they give tons of veggies (all viet places in Omaha are stingy!). The place seems like it's family owned and run. Because of that I think the people who work there have a greater interest in giving great service. Water's were always refilled and it seemed like there was always someone watching over us. I echo Vivian, while it's not the best pho i've ever had (try Honolulu or Chicago), it's definitely solid!

    (4)
  • Vivian L.

This place is solid. I wouldn't say it's the best pho I've ever had, but the food is good. I ate here twice today: pho for lunch and com tam for dinner. But items were good. I just moved to Lincoln a day ago from Garden Grove, CA, so I know good Vietnamese food. Little Saigon! I can say that this place is good enough for someone who grew up in a predominately Vietnamese community. Update: their avocado shake is pretty good. If you are like me and you actually want to taste the avocado, make sure to remind them to lighten up on the sugar. Update: they increased their prices...about $1-1.5.

I had the Spicy Beef Noodles soup at Vung Tau, aka Bun Bo hue. I thought the dish was pretty good but a little different from the norm. The soup contained two cuts of meat, one was the thinly sliced brisket and the other was the stewed chunks of beef. I guess I wasn't expecting the latter but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing, just different. I would have given it a 4 star except it was pretty pricey for a bowl of noodles. $8.99 for a bowl of bun bo hue is probably the most I've ever spent on a bowl of noodles that size.

While not a Vietnamese cuisine expert, I found this little hole-in-the-wall to be a great experience. This is a nice little family run place that has a great deal of charm, once you make it inside. I basically ordered based on the reviews given previously, and they didn't steer me wrong. The pho was great (adding the veggies and herbs to your liking allows you to customize the dish). The vermicelli salad (#16 on the menu) was very fresh and the hoagie (nice french baguette) was good too. The common thread running through all of these dishes was the meat...tender and flavorful. While the mirrored glass on the outside of the building doesn't allow you to easily peek inside before you enter, take a chance and walk through the door. You'll find a friendly and tasty Vietnamese eating experience right in Lincoln, Nebraska.

I have been going here for at least 5 years now and let me tell you, you will never be disappointed. Today i went here with my aunt for lunch, i had the Com Thit Nuong Bi Cha (Grilled pork special) and she had the regular com thit nuong with honey dew bubble tea. It was amazing, total bill was $22 and i still think the price of bubble tea is expensive at $3.75( same at every vietnamese restaurant). The food is amazing and is as authentic as it gets since it is family owned. Simply the best vietnamese in town period! and i have been to them all

  • Steven J.

I perfer the pho at Vung Tau when compared to Pho Nguyen, but both are very good. If you know about or like pho than this place won't disappoint. I actually like the location and the feel of this place better than the strip mall where pho nguyen is located. Try it and you'll agree it is awesome

House Special Pho was worth it. Nice big bowl full of meat and flavor. Fresh vegetable too. Spring rolls were tasty too. Price was right. The bad is parking...you have to park behind the building, if you're lucky you get vip which is right in front.

Vung Tau is really my only regular (weekly, occasionally more) dining out option these days; tightening the household budget belt lately means we go out much less often than we used to, but we just can't stay away from Vung Tau. It's definitely on my list of local gems here in Lincoln. The pho is simply top-notch---best I've had anywhere, and I've had my share. I'll admit to being...ambivalent?...of the traditional tripe etc meats used in pho; I usually stick to the meatballs or "round". That said (as any pho fan knows) it's all about the broth and the noodles---and Vung Tau's are spectacular. It's just so rich and delicious, while somehow remaining "light". You also can't go wrong with the bun, or anything with their grilled pork. Wow...carmelly grilled deliciousness. My wife has actually gotten into the habit of having them substitute the grilled pork for the usual meats when she orders pho, and now she can't go back---again, not "traditional", but it really adds a luscious (and slight sweetness) factor to the pho. Everything else we've had here has been good/great as well, though we have difficulty veering away from either pho or bun--they're just that good---so I can't speak to many of the rice etc dishes. It's a family-owned and run place, and we've come to feel a part of the family at Vung Tau. Service is always fast, and mostly friendly (the younger kids are pretty "all business", but they're still nice, and do the job) Portions are pretty generous and the prices are very reasonable. The pho comes in small, large or jumbo, and I've taken to almost always getting the small---though admittedly my appetite isn't as enormous it used to be, even the small is plenty of food for any normal human (especially for lunch and/or if you have some egg or spring rolls to start) On the negative, I (reluctantly) deduct one star for a few quibbles: 1) they close at 7pm, which is a bit odd, and forces us to come early if we want dinner. Related, the family (well, usually the younger family members) isn't shy about wanting to close up shop in the evening, and if you come in anywhere near closing time you may not get service as friendly as you'd usually expect. I suppose that means, however, that it'll probably be even faster than usual :) 2) I like their bubble tea and they have an enormous selection of flavors. Oddly, they're frequently out of many of them, or out of the tapioca bubbles. Not a biggie, as I'm often full enough that I probably shouldn't be having it anyway 3) atmosphere is just passable. The place is pretty small, so when it's busy, it's LOUD, making it difficult to talk with your table mate(s) without raising your voice. The clattering of chairs on the tile floor when the staff is straightening up a vacated table adds to the cacophony. The decor is minimal, and cheap, and the general environment pretty hole-in-the-wall. (funny how hole-in-the-wall joints often have the best food, so maybe they should never change). Personally, I'd rather a place save their money on decor and keep the prices down, and I guess that's just what they've done. Don't take the fact that there are a lot of words in the above "negative" section. As mentioned, I RELUCTANTLY deducted one star, and I also don't give out five-star ratings easily. With just a few tweaks Vung Tau would easily pry that last star from my stingy hands. Go to Vung Tau immediately! (Actually don't...I want to keep it all to myself. And less crowded)

Best pho I've had. Anywhere, ever. Always fresh, cheap, and quick. Poor neighborhood is the only drawback, but it is Lincoln Nebraska, so there really are no bad neighborhoods.

What the pho!? How is this hole in the wall looking place the BEST RESTAURANT EVER?! I don't know, but it is. Go. Eat the pho. If you don't like it, go home and hit yourself. Really though, I love vung tau. And ok it might not actually be the best restaurant ever, but it is the greatest place in Lincoln to have a delicious bowl of pho. And if you've stumbled upon this and have yet to taste the raw sexuality of the gods, which is vung tau's pho soup, get with the program son. This shit is delicious.

Rated solely on their food this is a 5 star vietnamese restaurant. The pho broth is rich and tasty. I loved the grilled pork banh mi. The rice dishes, com ga, are flavorful and generously portioned. If I lived in Lincoln, this would be one of my regular eating spots.

Don't be put off by the dingy exterior -- the food here is quite good. Have a steaming bowl of pho (small is MORE than large enough) and smile at how cheaply you are getting a delicious lunch or dinner. Grab a bubble tea to go and savor the experience even when you are back at your desk. Word to the wise, though: there are pretty much no vegetarian options, and they don't have pho ga (chicken pho) as some other places in town do.

  • Tricia W.

My friend took me here for the first time and it was okay. There was a lot of noodles in the pho I ordered, but not much beef as expected for the size I got. The quality of beef wasn't something to jump about.

  • Jason W.

In all honesty, this is a top-notch place for Vietnamese and I highly recommend it. I have had great Vietnamese in the Twin Cities, and even better in Houston Texas (which houses one of the largest Vietnamese populations in the united states) And I can confidently say that this place is the best I have been. We tried the pho, which was excellent. And the barbecues pork vermicelli salad, which was also great. The pork was amazingly flavorful, and the salad came with plenty of vegetables. I was truly surprised to find such great Vietnamese food in Lincoln, Nebraska. My bar is very high. My only disappointment was that there were no tofu dishes. But, I am unsure how common tofu is in Vietnam anyway. Go here for basic staples. The neighborhood and building itself looks a little run down, but I promise you will be delivered amazing quality, fresh, delicious food, served by a helpful and friendly staff. I look forward to visiting this city again so I may again eat here.

I just have to write a good review on this vietnamese restaurant. Not only their food is excellent, their friendly service is very impressive. I used to live in Houston, Tx where vietnamese restaurants are all over town. I fell in love with vietnamese food as soon as I had the first bite in Houston. Everything on the menu of Vung Tau is delicious and authentic and they are generous on their portions (very good amount of meat and noodle) and bean sprounts and basil (to be added to noodles). My favorites are Bun Bo Hue, spicy beef and pork noodle, combination noodle, spring rolls and combination rice plate, etc. I have tried every pho restaurant in Lincoln and none of them is even close to how authentic Vung Tau is. It's the only one in Lincoln I would go and of course I am a regular there now. Also, the staff there is very hardworking, professional, and friendly. I am always extremely satisfied with every visit.

Best vietnamese Ive had anywhere. Vietnamese always makes me feel like im eating fresh and healthy. I dig the Pho, the grilled pork sandwhich and some egg meatloafy deal that is really good. Theres a bunch of good meals on the menu. I'm sure there are others but its the only place i know for sure you can get bubble teas in lincoln. The last reviewer is correct. There is absolutely no bad neighborhoods in lincoln its worth the drive to 27th and Y. Last time I was there they had started excepting cards which is much appreciated.
