A pretty good place to chill while sipping on a good cup of joe. Actually, I had the Chai tea which was pretty good. My friend and I ordered our drinks and the girls behind the counter quickly made our drinks and took our payment. Quick and efficient, just like a coffee shop should be. We relaxed on the patio for about an hour just chit chatting about random things and besides the occasional whiff of cigarette smoke from some other patrons, it was a good time indeed.

Really good coffee with a cool vibe. The baristas and baristos are well trained and attentive. Stop in for conversation and some joe, you'll be happy you did.

I like espresso as much as the next hot-bean-water junkie, but I judge my coffee houses on their black coffee. I ambled into the Mill late one night to give their coffee a try. They had two blends and it was a serve yourself style, which I'm not used to but which makes sense considering that the place is used as a second home by college kids working hard to get degrees no one will hire them for. But I digress, the first coffee I had was a southern blend which mixed two different types of beans. It was good but rather unremarkable. I generally prefer single origin brews because it lets the highlights of that particular roast really pop. I went back for their famous Nebraska Blend which I was expecting to hate as I consider flavored coffees tantamount to heresy, but it was actually a surprisingly good cup of coffee. It doesn't have any super original notes in it, I mean, cream and coffee are like peanut butter and jelly, tried and true, but it tasted damn good. I was running late for a show I had to perform on* and was chugging the mug as I didn't want to throw any of it out. The decor is warm and inviting, and reflects the college town vibe of the area with some really beautiful black and white photography on the walls, as well as cool vintage barista equipment. You could spit anywhere in the store and probably land on some gorgeous hardwood of some kind, whether it be the walls, the floors or interesting chairs. I'm excited to come back to Lincoln and give this place some more of my time. It seems like the perfect place to bang out an essay on Oscar Wilde or just chill out and listen to some music on your laptop. They had a crazy amount of roasted beans in jars on the wall so I'm hoping that I can try some new coffees that can match the distinctness of their atmosphere. *humble brag

The Mill is pretty awesome because: 1.) it is much more affordable than a lot of the coffee shops I've seen in Nebraska 2.) tastes better than Scooters, which is around the block... 3.) there is so much room that it seems like never ends 4.) they have milk substitutes (soy AND almond). It is also hipster central -- which may or may not be awesome depending on whether or not you like hipsters in large crowds.

The mill is a quintessential college coffee shop. Complete with worn in furniture, concert posters and people on laptops. The building itself is some sort of refurbished warehouse which gives it a real artsy and cozy feel. The coffee itself isn't as strong as I usually like but had a good flavor. If you like strong coffee then be sure to add a shot of espresso. I impulsively bought a vegan bar from their crunchy selection of baked goods. It was delicious. Check them out online at heartthrives.com

I don't live in Lincoln anymore, so I don't get to hang at the Mill like I used to, but I'll say that when I do return to the 'Ska, the Mill is always a "must hit". They know their coffee and have a fantastic selection of coffee and teas. I'm not one of these people who's above going to Starbucks...sometimes coffee is just coffee...but when I'm in Lincoln and I don't want coffee, I want Coffee, I go to the Mill.

I went to "The Mill" for a smoothie. The so called smoothie was nothing more than blended grocery store juice and ice. Thanks a lot "The Mill"... What a waste of money.

All their coffee has the same problem. Every blend is over-roasted and tastes burnt. The staff is sometimes snotty.

My roaster at home broke and I had 20 pounds of beans I could not roast. I called The Mill to see if they could help me out. They roasted my beans and didn't charge me a cent. All the people I dealt with were very courteous and helpful. Great people great coffee.....Highly recommend!

An overly moist muffin may be the most absurd complaint I've ever heard. That's like saying "there's too much top on my muffin." A bit middle aged, but the coffee's good, and the vegan muffins from Maggie's can't be beat. Unless you like dry muffins, that is. Free wi-fi and a huge patio. Kid and dog friendly. It's a good place to meet up, socially, academically, or otherwise. If you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of Mr. Former Poet Laureate himself, Teddy K.

I have been a fan of the mill for over 10 years. It's local, it's friendly, it's better than some corporation. My coffee is always hot and delicious. I love the white heat, chai, and anything else they have to offer. It's extremely affordable and a great place to people watch. Outdoor patio, great for groups. I heart the Mill.

I came here with a few friends a couple weeks ago. It has such a relaxing environment to just sit and talk. Being used to paying $5 for a drink at other coffee shops, I was pleasantly surprised with the inexpensive drinks they had here. The service was very good, I didn't have to wait in a line for a long time, and the baristas were very friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a great experience, and if I went to school or lived in Lincoln, this would definitely be a place I would go to often.

The Mill is one of many coffee choices in Lincoln. It has an established clientele and is usually pretty busy. Full disclosure, I am not a coffee drinker but always order hot chai latte when I stop at a coffee house. The chai that I had today was pretty average. It was not as hot as I like it but had good flavor. Overall, I didn't see anything negative that would have me "downgrade" the Mill, neither did I see anything that was outstanding. Just an overall decent coffee house.

A little disappointed with my bitter almond latte, but delighted with my deliciously moist cinnamon raisin muffin. Great vibe -- there's definitely a lot of love here. Magical kitty chair in the back. Worth a stop if you're considering it.

Great place to grab a quick coffee if you're staying at the Marriott a couple blocks down. The line was long but the service was fast so don't be deterred by that. They give you coffee or tea in Styrofoam cups, which is my only complaint. Not a huge fan of that. Who wants a 20 oz Styrofoam cup? I got an iced chai latte with almond milk. It was good.

If you like coffee shops, or are just looking for place to bum WiFi and chill this is your place. I have spent many hours here studying, researching and writing, and the coffee and tea are good... I would like it if there were more outlets and better range of ice coffees. Buen Provecho!!!

The Mill isn't just a coffee shop, it's been the background of all my formative teenage years into my adult life. I cannot count the hours and hours I have spent at the Mill. I first discovered this gem when I was 14 years old and I've been viciously loyal ever since. In high school, I spent hours here gossiping, getting hormonal over baristas, and studying for finals. Now, the Mill still serves as a Mecca for my friends and I. Whenever we have a free moment downtown, you can bet I'm at the Mill drinking tea, eating a cookie, and playing cards. Aside from all that, the environment cannot be beat! The exposed brick, the mural near the bathroom, the old wooden benches, the wall of tea and candy, the planes hanging from the ceiling, and so much more. Everything has personality and the whole place is quaint and just... so nice. Everyone is friendly and it's the best place for a relaxing evening, alone or with friends. The free wi-fi is amazing. The patio outside is especially nice on a summer's night. The lighting is soft and you can kick back, put your feet up on the ledge, and have a good time either people-watching or conversing with others. The iced tea is always good, along with the apple cider, the white heat, the chai, and the mocha. Izze's are good too (grapefruit is my favorite). To me, the Mill is home and I cannot imagine growing up in Lincoln without this place. I hope it stays open FOREVER. :D

Lincoln has many coffee shops to choose from, I personally enjoy The Mill over many of the others. They have a great feel inside and out. I love to sit on the old loading dock and watch people on a lazy Sunday. I also like to sit and read the paper inside and listen to their squeaky wooden floor boards as people walk by. Their coffee is freshly roasted and I have never had a bad cup of coffee their over the six years I've been coming here. They seem to give back to the community and many of their employees ride bicycles. Their overall image attracted me and their coffee kept me.

I love supporting local coffee shops, so I want to like this place, but...I don't understand it. The first time I went I wanted a pastry and a coffee. Unbeknownst to me, you have to order those things at two separate counters - a little weird, but fine, assuming there's actually someone at both of those counters to take your orders. Maybe it's mostly regulars who come here, and who know the drill, but they always seem to assume you know what's going on and act annoyed when you don't. Good selection of pastries, fairly decent coffee, and great location (it's huge inside, so would be a great place to hunker down and study or work), but customer service is majorly lacking.

I've been in here a few times with friends and there are really just so many good things to say about it. Firstly, location is awesome with being right downtown in the haymarket area where you have so many options to grab lunch, a drink, whatever. The Mill is a great place to chill during the day and either get some work done or meet with friends. The inside is actually really pretty big with a huge outdoor deck, the main inside portion with lots of seating, and then a longer slightly lower lit hallway for a more quiet atmosphere. The people who work here have always been very pleasant. They have a good selection of drinks and several pastries, all filled with gluten though. Price is totally normal for a coffee shop. Overall, enjoyable place to read or do work while grabbing a drink. I like all the little nooks but wish they had better and more comfy chairs and maybe more personality to the atmosphere.. But all in all.. It's quite nice.

Great spot!! Cool staff ,huge selection and delish coffee. and I really liked that they seemed environmentally aware and pushed for mugs or use of our own cups. Only reason for. 4 instead of 5? Please QUIT using styrofoam and the quiche was very small, limp and not that flavorful.

We went here twice on our weekend trip. A great little local coffee joint. The iced coffee was really good, and the service was friendly. I like that there is so much seating(although I can't believe that all of that "empty" space is profitable). It's a nice cozy spot, with a front room with a chatty atmosphere, but also a great quiet area for reading, or studying. They have a great selection of loose tea(I have heard that it's best to keep tea out of light...and the jars were clear glass, though). I LOVED LOVED LOVED the tea I had the second time. I think it was Safari Sunset, or something like that. It was a red tea with cinnamon, lemon and clove. SO GOOD. Great prices, too. Visit #2 cost us less than $3 for my tea and his cider. If you're in town, definitely stop in for a sip!

Both Mill locations are wonderful... But the Haymarket location is a great place to hang about in the summer... The iced coffee is divine, and they've got lots of other treats... sitting outside on the "dock" looking out over the Haymarket is very relaxing, and this is a great place for reading, working, or conversing... I love the Mill.

First coffee shop stop in Lincoln, in the Haymarket area - all the buildings are renovated wear houses classic decor. Has a rustic feel to it or western - great coffee had an mocha expresso there more than excellent. People scene is eclectic - all walks of life - students, bible study, hipsters. Pretty cool spot.

I love coffee shops in college towns with that special vibe that comes with studying students. Although I have only been here in the summer, it has that attitude. It's a nice place to hang out, it has good drinks, and a community journal where you can anonymously profess your love to people as so many other restless souls have. Or you can doodle and write down obscure song lyrics. Either way you come out relaxed and caffeinated.

There is just something about the Mill that didn't make me want to love it. My best friend loved it and it came highly recommended from some locals she knows there but I couldn't love it. The Mill is super unique. A maze, literally. I had to make three turns in that building to find a bathroom, and heard every step my boots made echoing on the hardwood floors. I felt bad for the people studying that I walked by en route but when you have to go you have to go! Clientele at The Mill ranged from young hipster types, to older gentlemen, and everyone in between. (my friend and I played the 'is that his daughter or his girlfriend game' based on a few of the couples in line) It is clearly a favorite among locals in the area as it seemed we were the only 'tourists' there. The positives: They have these sweet pump handle espresso machines that I've seen photos of but never gotten to use or see in person. But The Mill is not just for coffee drinkers, they had organic, non-caffeinated drinks in the cooler for the non-coffee lovers, but for the rest of us, they make a helluva spiced mocha that can be made with Almond Milk! Also they have a small, assorted selection of sandwiches and wraps. The focus seems to be healthy and organic and I appreciated how large they were for the price I had to pay for them. The Negatives: The feel of the place didn't quite set with me. I guess I felt that there was just too much going on in that main ordering room and I experienced a bit of sensory overload. Lastly, my hummus wrap had small shreds of a white cheese in it but cheese was not on the list of ingredients-luckily my lactose intolerance is forgiving when dairy is consumed in small amounts so all was well. A Vegan individual or someone more dairy restricted than I am would not be quite as forgiving though, I'm afraid. These sandwiches do seem to be outsourced and brought in on a daily basis so this is not entirely the fault of The Mill's, which I'm more than happy to acknowledge. The Mill has a lot of variety and I appreciated that there were two registers to speed up customer experience, I just didn't quite understand it I suppose. Definitely go to check it out if you're in the area as it is unique and my best friend loved it, it's just not for me. There is also an entire wall of merchandise-coffee and non-coffee related items by the espresso machines so it would be an excellent place to do some shopping while you're in the short lines.

Mediocre espresso technique. They make an americano by putting shots directly into a talk drinking glass (sitting diagonally in the espresso machine as it wouldn't otherwise fit), and then pouring water atop it slowly until the 16oz glass is filled. As I waited for it to cool to a drinkable temperature, the smell was off-putting at best. The taste was watered down as one would expect with such a poor espresso to water ratio. The taste, dead. The bitter aftertaste, long-lasting. Seems the roast might not be any good either. All in all, and unfortunate experience. The place is in a cute neighborhood and the interior is rustic and accommodating to the many students studying. The staff was friendly. They appear to have a great selection of teas, maybe that is more their forté.

Love this coffee shop! Great selection of coffees and teas. I could not get enough of this place on my first visit to Lincoln. The staff was very helpful. The atmosphere was comfy and cozy.

There's nothing like a friendly local coffee house for getting together with family, friends, or simply stopping in alone for a relaxing drink. The Mill is the perfect place for such an experience. Drinks: I am not now and never have been a coffee drinker, but The Mill doesn't stop at simply offering coffee. I've never seen a larger selection of teas at a coffee shop. The wall is lined with dozens of sealed jars of tea blends (and coffee) from which you can select for a fresh brew. Some of the blends are unique to The Mill. The best part? You can take home a bag of any of their blends. Of course they also offer ready to go coffee along with all the standard coffee and tea fare such as cappuccino, espresso, chai, etc. Service & Atmosphere: I've never been into The Mill without being greeted by a friendly person behind the counter. The atmosphere of the shop is casual and comfortable. People of all ages can be found relaxing, chatting, reading, or working at any given time. There are many groups that meet on a weekly basis, so if you visit at a regular time, you might get to know other patrons. I've been there during off-hours and during peak-hours (such as Saturday farmers' market hours), and I've never had difficulty hearing the conversations of my companions. The only challenge might be finding a seat during the most popular times. Location & Parking: The Mill is located in the heart of the Haymarket District on the west end of downtown. This makes it a perfect place to stop while tooling around the area or on a break from work at a downtown business or between classes at the University of Nebraska. Parking in the Haymarket is always a challenge and there is not a private lot, so don't expect regular rock star parking. You might have to walk a few blocks when the Haymarket is hopping. The Mill has a second location on the south side of town that I enjoy equally well. Overall, The Mill is one of my favorite places to stop and relax (and I've lived in both smaller towns and large metropolitan areas for the past 15+ years), and one I try hit almost every time I visit the city of Lincoln.

I wish I had found the mill earlier on my visit to Lincoln. On a Saturday afternoon in June we were virtually the only customers, and it would have been a great place to spend the 2.5 hours reading I did at Panera earlier in the day. Oh well, there's always next time... Could have been a five star, but they were out of soy milk, and the iced chai I got was kind of weak. Actually, I asked if there was chai in it, it looked so much like plain [rice] milk. Then I went back and asked them to dump some more concentrate in it and discovered it was almost clear looking - like a weak tea - to begin with. Curiouser and curiouser. Still, this is what I'm typically looking for in a coffee shop.

The vibe, the music, the espresso, the tea and spices, and coffee accoutrement are what make this place a great coffee house. Hey Mill folk: thanks for making my short stay in Lincoln rad. Also good: M-Th opening hours: 7am to 11pm. :)

Don't get the hype. Snotty hipsters baristas and flavored coffees without any single origin. As a fellow snotty hipster barista, one should act pretentious about their product unless it is, in fact, superior. This is not even close.

I'm not from around here, but this place seemed pretty cool to me. The atmosphere in here is nice. It's pretty big, lots of room for sitting. They also have outdoor seating, so plenty of space for everyone. They have a wide variety of coffee flavors and treats. I got a blueberry bagel with cream cheese, and a sugar free vanilla skinny mocha. Both were very good. It didn't take very long to come out, seems like a good system. They even cut my bagel for me with this cool bagel slicer. They have a very digital checkout, which makes the process a lot faster than normal coffee shops. They have some cool things for sale in the store too, t-shirts, mugs, stuff like that. This coffee shop is located downtown, so I'm sure it's pretty busy on the weekends. It wasn't too busy on a Tuesday morning. Great location, great food. The next time I come to Lincoln, I will be coming back.

You know it's a good day when you find a good parking spot, stop by the local coffee shop, and order up a warm cup of chai after walking in the snowy rain. It's cool to know that there's a warm and hip place to go to study or even just chill with friends. I love the random colorful chairs and the airplanes on the ceiling.

Nothing better in the Lincoln area than here. We always stop when in the area. Great selection of coffee and tea for purchase, besides special candy items, cookies, and supplies of all kind. Good sandwiches made fresh here. Great old timey place here in a best location. Thanks folks. Well done.

We stopped in here on our way out of town and could tell right away that it was a favorite among the locals. It was super busy in there. The decoration was cool and welcoming and the staff friendly. I tried one of their mango smoothies and it was delicious, had it made with milk. Their scones were also great.

I am not a coffee drinker...I am tea-riffic! I appreciate The Mill's extensive loose leaf tea collection. You can buy by the ounce and also have any of the teas brewed hot or iced for you. I haven't lived in Lincoln in 6 years, but I took a day trip yesterday on a short vacation and went straight for the Green Gateau blend. It is strawberry and apricot and it is so refreshing. I took a cup iced to go and already made a pitcher of it iced for the week. I just noticed I can order online so if I run out, I know what to do!

Hanging out with friends on the dock, stopping by for coffee after dinner at the Oven or before hitting the farmer's market, or studying in one of the coveted booths in the back - the Mill is usually playing great music and staffed by great people. The Mill not only has the best coffee in Lincoln, they have a great atmosphere, great location, and their business model is an asset to the community. They have limited food offerings, from local purveyors, and when they do have almond croissants it is hard for me not to get one. (And it's true, you see some famous poets there from time to time.)

  • Chris S.

This cavernous old warehouse was the best coffee place we found during our trip to Lincoln. There's plenty of space, the coffee's good, and the service was friendly. I felt like walking on the creaking floor boards was disturbing the students in the quiet room, but there's nothing to be done about that. I also found their anti-graffiti message by their mural amusing.

Original coffee house downtown Lincoln. Decided to do something else for breakfast than traditional Starbucks on our road trip cross the country. Well worth it, the place was charming with historic flare of an old farming town. Lattes were great and pastries yummy (croissant with almond paste and coffee cake with frosting). Highly recommended alternate to the big chain!!
