Definitely my kind of bar. The Moscow mule was on point and the courtyard is very cool during the day and at night. Only thing I didn't like was the one person bathroom, but that's not a big deal.

The courtyard is a nice venue if the weather is reasonable. Mature crowd with some people watching opportunities if one is so inclined. The courtyard is attached some good options for entertainment and food. Really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and a good evening overall.

Awful! I have never had such a terrible experience in my life. not hide. TLDR: overly aggressive, sexist, and shameful bartender. Last Monday night, around 11pm, a small group of my friends went out for a few drinks in the Haymarket. After grabbing a drink at Doc's Place and Longwell's, we decided to show our friend who was new to Lincoln this cool hidden bar that we've been to a few times. Upon arrival, there was no door attendant so my group (2 males and 3 females, age 22 to 25) decided it wasn't a huge deal and grabbed a seat next to the "bag-game" they had out this night. Just as we were seated, a bartender (either Italian or Russian from his accent) rushed and leaped over to our table as fast as he could to check our ideas. A bit aggressive, but no big deal. We grab a drink, played a few games of bag toss, and grabbed a second. At this point, the girl that was new to Lincoln and on vacation was around her fifth to sixth drink, beyond buzzed but not sloppily drunk, slightly slurred voice, but she was with a group of friends and in a safe environment. This is when the bartender walked by and aggressively pushed through our conversation and asserted this girl needed to drink some water, making a huge public scene. "Sure," I thought, thinking, why not it's probably not a bad thing anyways. The rest of my group thought the guy was out of line, and I, just getting back from Italy and assuming this guy may be Italian, was empathizing that he was just being polite and courteous, as Italians are generally just more aggressive in nature. About 10 more minutes pass and we still stood in the same position having a conversation as the bartender attentively watched us, making us feel incredibly uncomfortable. The girl finished her water and proceeded to finish her mix drink, never moving from her seat. I went inside to use the bathroom before we left. As I was walking back into the courtyard after washing my hands, I see the bartender aggressively moving chairs side to side and waving his arms at my group of friends and yelling. I walk up to the situation asking what was going on. He was shouting in his foreign accent that "she is so drunk," "how could a woman get so drunk," "so shameful," and other things along those lines. As if a woman, compared to a man, has to compose herself in a more proper manner? The girl started crying. Just coming into the situation, I was shocked at the apparent sexism that was taking part, but I was not going to start a fight. I walked in the direction of the exit, as one of my male friends tries to push a chair back into the table. At this point the bartender assertively moves his body into my friends to push him out of the way. Being "whatever," we left. Getting kicked out for new apparent reason. Once upon leaving the bar without a fight, and having one friend almost attacked and another experiencing sexism and made to start crying, I flipped the guy off and walked away. Once up the street, I could see the bartender running out of the bar after us, I ignore him and moved on. And in the wind behind me I heard "Go shove that finger right up yo' momma's asshole, you motherf*****!" I simply chuckled to myself and walked home with my friends. I have never, never experienced something like this in Lincoln. I have been at this bar at least 3 other occasions, have never seen this guy, or this attitude. But that bartender ruined this place forever, and I will never be showing my friends this place as well. Should I have flipped the guy off? No. But after what we experienced prior, it was the one outlet that was peaceful and without starting a fight. On to the positives? Atmosphere: 4/5 - it's great, quite hidden backyard patio atmosphere. there's a good selection of drinks, a fountain, and a fireplace. very unique to Lincoln. Food/Drink: 4/5 - pretty standard from what is in the area but at a fair price and it always tastes clean.

Love being outside in the summer, it was quiet when we went but it was a week day. I just really enjoy the location and the drinks of course.

I went to Tavern on the Square for the first time Saturday night with some friends. It seems to be a good crowd; more young professionals than underage college students. I really liked the courtyard area in the back, which makes for great summer drinking. I'll be back.

This place started out as a rather chill place back in the summer of 2010. Since then, it has turned into the destination for kids who graduate from UNL, stay in Lincoln, and evolve from the O Street scene. The sorority girls who pack that place now are newly-minted graduates of The Rail. The place can sometimes fill up quickly and further patrons are denied entry. This is not a bad thing for the folks already inside, however, as it increases the possibility of getting a drink from the bar. It is arguably the best place to drink outside in Lincoln (in the brick courtyard).

Tavern on the Square is in the old Crescent Moon building. The Tavern is a bit more laid back than most places on O street. And in my opinion, the courtyard behind the bar is the most beautiful space in Lincoln. It is small and intimate. There are just a few tables which are surrounded by trees, white lights enclosed by historic brick buildings. The best part about the Tavern is the dress code: No Afflication and No Tap Out so save your fancy shirts for O street ;)
