Good food, like having a home cooked meal at grandmas house. French dip was a little small for $10 but i would come back. beats fast food any day.

It's a dive, it's a dump, it's a great place for breakfast after duck hunting. The booth seats are ripped, and the carpeting is dirty, but the food was good. If you're looking to impress a date, LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE :)

Hi way Diner was our go-to spot for late night eating. It's a pretty standard diner with good food, cheap prices, and 24 hour breakfast. This place isn't the best breakfast place in the world, but it serves a solid purpose and has decent food.

I loved the food, great price and very friendly. Eclectic is a great word for the decor, I thought it was an amazing piece of history packed into a great restaurant!

Comfort food and 24 hour service. I love greasy spoon diners. I also like that it is on my way to work. The food is good and quick. The price is right too. The interior is not much, but they do have some pretty cool display items around the restaurant. The service is sort of fast casual, but I don't mind that, especially for the price. Lots of menu items. Overall, no complaints, good food and a good price.

The food is way overpriced & you only get one free refill on soda. The food is honestly nothing you couldn't obtain elsewhere.

Home of the greasiest food around. The only time to go to this place is when you are up after a long night of going out, or if they are the only place open. Every surface in the building is permanently "sticky". The best part about it is the price though. No one can complain about that! The greasy food meets the quality you should expect for the price.

Gotta love a 24 Hour Diner! The clientele is different depending on the time of day (or night). We were in from out of town so we stopped by for a late breakfast and it was as if we were in a small town cafe as it looked like retired farmers at each table. Makes sense as I assume farmers like good coffee and good breakfast. I had both. I ordered a standard breakfast; eggs over easy, wheat toast, bacon and hash browns. I love to dunk my toast (and bacon) in the egg yolk. Generally there isn't enough yolk. Well that isn't an issue here as "The Third Egg is Free". I think I got that right. It is hard to screw up bacon, eggs and toast, true. It is also difficult to get it "right". There is no better place to get a "right" breakfast than a diner. In this case HiWay Diner! Solid meal and coffee. Decor is fun, nostalgic (look at the various pictures). Has a feel of a diner. You know, what you would expect a diner to be. I'll be back next time I'm in town.

This is a great, inexpensive place to enjoy that late night or morning after breakfast. Is it perfect, no, but they sure do make some killer breakfast and you won't leave hungry, that is for sure. I have never had a bad meal and would go here over a Perkins ANY day. This is another old reliable in Lincoln.

This place is definitely made for college students. It is good in the sense that it is the only 24 hour or late night restaurant open in Lincoln, They have free wifi which is always a plus. The ambiance is exactly what you would expect it to be, very dive-y, the tables and seating not maintained that well and the collection of various groups of drunk people was high in abundance. I would have rated this place higher because the food was actually pretty decent. The shoestring french fries were enjoyable and decent, the buffalo chicken wrap was delicious and my friend actually raves about the meatloaf. You only get one free refill on soda, which I still find unbeliveable. I guess it's hard to judge the crowd, probably should have expected that so late at night, but overall is still your only and best option for a late night snack. Just be prepared for a true dive environment and possibly and obnoxious crowd, but very decent food.

This diner was probably here when Cornhusker highway was the main road, but I'm not from around here, so I'll have to do some research on that.... We went here for lunch after driving by twice a day for 4 days, the outside reminded me of all the mom and pop places I enjoy while traveling, what really drew me in was the "Ban franchise food" sign in front, which I agree wholeheartedly so what the heck, be adventurous I said, and we went for it. I was a little puzzled when we walked in, the clothes in plastic bags hanging on hangers threw me off, I thought they were selling them until I saw the dry cleaning service sign across the room, but still very odd to me. The ladies there were just what I expected, ultra friendly and helpful, polite hometown folks, very nice. Took me a few minutes to digest the menu on the wall, they serve breakfast 24/7, and decent lunch and dinner selections, I almost ordered the liver and onion, but got the meatloaf instead, with corn and bean as my sides. After ordering, I found us a booth and waited for the food, sitting there gave us time to take everything in, well, it's almost like the two guys from American Pickers just unloaded all the stuff they got everywhere else into here, old large signs, neon lit up the place even during the day, an old fridge with a hand written "free wifi" sign on top, an old stove as a self to stop the condiment bottles, old trike and box airplane hanging from the ceiling. As a whole is a tad over the top, but each item individually have so much history its charming. The walls and ceiling could use a fresh coat, the booths and tables had endured many buttocks and plates on them, plenty of characters everywhere you look. As for the food, the veggies were a tad salty, the meatloaf was moist and filling, almost as good as my wife's. I would go back if I get the chance. Hi-way is not the greatest, nor it is the worst, this place is just comfy with decent comfort food.

The food is surprisingly good! First off, don't use the bathroom. That killed it for me once...but lesson learned. I've never had to stand in a big line to order and my food has always arrived promptly and at the proper temperature. Between my wife and I, we have eaten a lot of the menu. The giant burger is probably my favorite. Nicely seasoned beef with some of the best bacon in town. The ladies working the front are always a delight. The people who visit are unpredictable so if you like people watching this place is for you. I've seen political debates between strangers from across the room get pretty heated. The night crowd is always a ball too. Pros: Great food, good service, quick Cons: Bathrooms! YUCK

The Highway diner is a place for magic. Just dont use the bathroom, curse loudly, or ask what magic toast is. my main recommendation is that you go when it is dark. preferably really late. During the day the Diner loses some of its ambiance, but after midnight it comes alive... okay not really but where else are you going to get eggs and hash browns at four in the morning on a tuesday? There is also free Wifi and no one really cares how long you linger. It a college students dream and it has more than frequently been the final spot of the night after hanging with friends but dont go during the day.

Went there for breakfast on a Sunday so as to avoid visiting a chain, and as much as I hate to say it, I have to admit that Village Inn or Perkins would have been infinitely better. The restaurant version of a filthy hobo: cigarette butts all over the parking lot, weeds, manky looking 5-gallon trash buckets greeting you when you step into the entryway, a ladder and other construction materials stored in the dining room, a floor that looked like it had been shat upon, then trampled, for decades-- and yet I persevered because the place was pretty full and there was a healthy-sized line. Mistake. It took twenty minutes to get through the line to order, and then you have to get your own silverware, napkins, etc. (Fair enough, they're trying to be efficient, right? But if you forget to order something [like, say, sausage--f**k!], guess what?) Of the 9 forks I got for our large party, 3 of them were dirty-- I'm talking crusty here. We then waited for 40 more minutes for our food to be delivered. When it finally reached us, it was cold. Eggs were like clammy rubber, and the butter did not even begin to melt on the French toast-- it almost seemed to snicker a smidge. Even the middle of the hashbrowns had gone cold. WTF? The bacon--though cold-- I will admit, was pretty tasty. At that point we couldn't even be bothered to complain; the place had beaten us, and we tried to choke down what we could. Unless you've got a couple of hours to kill and just want some bacon, avoid this place at all costs. I left angry. Overall, one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had (and I've been to Utah.)

Worth a Turn-Around -- We were driving through Lincoln at midnight, spotted this place and turned around and loved the relaxed late-night vibe. Ordered "breakfast at midnight" - eggs, some sort of tortilla wrap - excellent.

This place is filthy, but it gets 2 stars for holding a special place in my heart. It's one of the few 24-hour joints in town, and I have fond memories of eating there with friends after a long night at the bars, or studying there for my high school science class.

Part of the reason I love this place is the simple fact that I am a late night person, and this is the only place other than IHOP open 24 hours a day. The food is almost always excellent, the wait staff is usually polite and friendly, the decor and atmosphere are good, if a bit kitschy, and there's free wi-fi. What more could a night owl ask for?
