June 14, 2014 Saturday - lunch 12:30 PM 2 adults and a kid Atmosphere - 5 stars Food - 5 stars Service - 5 stars Background - Another long day of driving. Atmosphere - This is a car hop but we sat at one of the tables. This is literally on edge of town. The lot next to them is a farm field with a young corn crop. Food Drinks - Coke. Appetizer - none My Main Course - Cheeseburger with a side of tater tots. A classic menu, nothing fancy about the cheeseburger. But what was amazing was the cheeseburger was not flattened like most fast food restaurants. Dessert - none. Service - You use a speaker box just like the ones that they have for the car ports. It also has the menu with it. The quality of this box was perfect; I understood every single word he said to us! Future - Yeah but who knows the next time I will be in the area.

Who would have expected a stellar authentic Mexican restaurant deep in the heart of Nebraska? Hands? Not me, that is until I had occasion to spend a bit of time there and discover the strong Mexican (and Salvadoran as well) population in this burg. How and why, I have no idea and it's not my main concern. What is of interest, then, is how this place stands and delivers. In a word (or so), exceedingly well. This place cares about getting it right, which is frankly rarer than it should be in any given city and this place is the real deal all the way right down to their respective knucklebones. They take pains to mention it and make it so and service is stellar, easily the best I've had on my annual trip this year. Drink selection is also fantastic, which is rare, but most welcome. I had 6 of the tacos. Of those, the carnitas was the best, followed by the al pastor (not the best I've had but very interesting) and then the asada. The hot sauce was also fabulous. Wife had a carnitas platter, which she enjoyed a lot. Here's a measure of how authentic it was: no silverware. Nope. You eat that thing up with tortillas and your hands, baby and that's it. Very nice. No super convenient, but that's how they roll. I'm down. No one got any and it was straight with me. My kid had the chicken nugget and fry plate. Fries were again excellent and the nuggets...well, let's just say it was very nice of them to have it as an offering. Is this worth jumping off I-80 for? If you're a fan of this food or staying in town anyway, absolutely. If you're not so into the actual Mexican part in your Mexican food, you may reconsider, but I encourage you to jump out of your comfort zone, if that's true for you. They do this right and they do it well and it serves as a great introduction into what this culture can offer cuisine-wise. Needless to say, far and away the best we had not only this trip, but perhaps at any time of the course of any of these annual trips.
Worth a stop if you find yourself in Lexington, NE. For the money, this is a great find. The restaurant is large and clean. And yes, the bathroom is very clean. Tacos are $1.25 each. Plates are about $7.50. I think that was the most expensive item.
Mind blowingly good. If anyone runs into Rick Bayless or Anthony Bourdain tell them to come here. Totally unexpected. Not far from I80. Family owned with a really sweet and genuine husband and wife team in the kitchen.

Coming from a place where the mexican culture is rich, this little restaurant brings me back. The tacos are authentic tasting and the torts was delicious. If I ever come back to NE and happen to be by Lexington I will most definitely be coming back.
This was a plesant surprise, more or less in a rural area off I-80 next door to a motel at which we were staying. Great mexican food in a casual setting. Good prices. If I stay in this area again, this is where I will eat.
The best enchiladas and supreme burrito I've ever had. Definitely worth getting off I-80 for.

Tiny hole in the wall pupusaria. Found it while looking for breakfast in this town. Fried plantains, yucca and pupusas. I am always excited to see some kind of variety of food on the road besides fast food chains.
Good lord this place is great. Amazing Pupusas, Tacos, platanos and Tamales. Also Burritos and tortas. We went there and got six pupusas (cheese, bean & cheese, chincaron), six tacos (al pastor, lengua, pollo), and two tamales (bone in chicken!). Total for the order was $27. Ridiculously cheap. The tamales appear to rotate. Also a good selection of Juaritos and mexi coca-cola. Great place to stop by when in Lex or passing through central NE.
Really good authentic food! Tortas could be a little fuller. But meat was good, pupusas were excellent. In a town of very few choices, this place is a gem. Very reasonably priced and nice, polite service.

We were passing through on a summer Tuesday and decided to stay in this town. There are a lot of eateries but this one just looked interesting so we ended up here for dinner. It was a seemingly plain and simple truck stop type cafe and I suppose that's what it is but it was great. It was half-full of mostly locals (we know this because diners at three tables struck up conversation with us and they all lived withing a half-hour of the place) and the staff was friendly, fast and efficient. I had a French dip, mashed taters and a salad and Dana had a big chef's salad. The food was great - fresh and tasty and not pricey at all. The people were great and I felt it was just the right kind of place to end a day of travel. As a plus for travelers looking for a quick food stop and pit stop, it is right off the freeway exit, there is a travel store and fuel in the adjacent building so you can stop without looking around for different things. Add to that a WalMart across the freeway and you're all set for anything. I'll certainly eat here again next time through.
On visiting relatives in the area we sometimes visit this establishment . I don't know why . It always sounds like a good idea until we step into the place. The service plain sucks and we vow not to come back but then we do, more then likely because there is not much around, I am sure if there was a lot more options this place would not be open. The staff seems to pay more attention to the locals chit chatting then they do with the customer sitting in the back booth . The place is a dump. definitely needs a remodel but since they more then likely don't make enough money that will never happen. For some reason these kind of places don't care to update their establishments . Now onto the food. Its nothing special at all. in fact I usually end up with a "why did I even eat that attitude " . the hash is not good at all and taste something funky. the coffee is horrible they really need to clean the coffee makers. I do say I like the bacon (that's the only reason why it got two stars ) but then again its hard to screw up bacon. I vow not to go back, but I know we will, I wish there was more options in the area. maybe I will just do McDonalds next time, at least our expectations wont be high there at all.
Cockroach capital... Not sure why the state hasn't closed them. Eat here if you enjoy sharing your food with a few cockroaches. Gross!!
