Another entry on the "great place to get awesome food and they don't care if you're wearing shorts and a swimsuit" list. I'm a recent transplant from Portland, OR which has quite a few really good BBQ joints, and I think Piggyback could compete with any of them. And they'd come out on top in several categories: price, fried pickles, fried okra, coleslaw, hushpuppies, sweet potato waffle fries, BBQ sauce (the Montana style sauce), the turkey and the brisket. BBQ here is nice and smoky, served with a bit of sauce, and you can add more from the bottles on the table. They have a vinegar based sauce, a mustard sauce (neither of which I am a fan) and one they call Montana style, which I love. The prices are really reasonable, and the food really good, which means once the tourists hit town, it can turn into a mob scene. Sometimes the wait staff can handle it, sometimes not. However, no matter how busy, I've yet to have bad food here. Yeah, there are some items I won't have again: the potato salad is "meh" and I think has too much mayo. But let me wax on about what I love: Fried okra - awesome. Cornmeal breading, served hot = no better way to eat this vegetable. Sweet potato Buffalo chips - waffled sweet potato chips served with sweet chili sauce. Mmmm. Vinegar based coleslaw with pickles (or relish? I think shredded pickles) is a nice non-mayo selection. My favorite meat is the turkey, because it's damn hard to get turkey in Montana, despite the plethora of wild turkey running around. Big thick slices, smoked perfectly. If you order the "1 meat" platter with two sides, its enough for two people, maybe get a third side. Beverages - several great beers on tap (including Pig's Ass Porter) more in bottles. Sweet tea (and also unsweet, just ask). Soda, wine, etc. Not sure they have hard alcohol - I don't think so but its hard to tell in the land of the wine-a-rita (that's a poke at the "margarita" made with wine that is common in Montana because of the high price of hard liquor licenses. Just say no to the wine-a-rita). Finally, indoor or outdoor seating, take out (and a lot of people choose this option), totally cute converted bungalow. They also sponsor a BBQ competition with brews and blues, August 17-19th in Depot Park in Whitefish.

I am somewhere between a 3 and 4.... We were there on a nice Sunday afternoon, so we got to sit outside with live music which is a plus for any eatery. Plus side: Pulled pork , links, coleslaw (vinegar style dressing - not mayo based), hush pups and sweet potato fries were all delicious. Brisket was good, but ribs were only alright as they were too tough. Service was great and a combo of self and waited service. You order at the counter and get your own drinks and then they serve you. Our server came by several times to see if everything was good or we needed anything else.

My boyfriend and I ordered a brisket sandwich with a side of baked beans and friend green tomatoes. I am no expert on BBQ, but I thought the brisket was tender and moist. I loved that they toasted the buns. The beans were sweet (just the way I like 'em) and I couldn't get enough of the fried green tomatoes.

In town for the first time skiing at Whitefish and stopped on the way back from the mountain. Ordered the brisket and pulled pork sandwiches. Meat was done so well and tasty that we ordered a half lb of brisket to go. Sides were good too, fried okra and sliced potato fries. Selection of local beers was icing on the cake. Service was efficient and attentive. Will be living on BBQ for the rest of the week.

Wow how do i start, sat at my table for about 5 min before i went and got my tables own menus, the young staff was more intent on talking to eachother rather than serving there customers and when it got busy we as well as many other tables were completly ignored and passed by while they frantically tended to the bigger tables. The food was very terrible and especially for the price, 2 people 45$ i would expect atleast decent, The cole slaw is made of basically cabage and italian dressing? The chilli was either under cooked or old due to the very strong beer flavor, i felt as if i was drinking one. The pulled pork was weird tasting i cant describe it, i took one bite of the smoked turkey slices and didnt know what to think, nothing like iv ever tasted before (not a good experiance) and last the briskit was so yesterdays reheated crap. Very very dry and almost carboard texture. This business had a Dickeys feel like im used to in missoula but the quality was far from it. Dont wast your time here.

This place got our order wrong-- twice! We need to separate the food quality from the service in this review, because they were vastly different. I wanted to like this place, but ultimately, I cannot recommend it because of the poor service. Friends and I placed an order to go, but we did so inside the restaurant versus calling it in. We should have checked it before we left, because our 4 brisket sandwiches turned into 4 pulled pork sandwiches, and the restaurant missed completely the po' boy sandwich also ordered. When we took the food away and called back, they offered to make a po' boy sandwich, as long as we came back to pick it up. When we did, and returned to our destination, we were dismayed and disappointed completely because the replaced sandwich turned into a regular brisket sandwich! When we called to advise about this mistake, we were told that the po' boy sandwich was never even ordered-- though it was, and obviously the young gal who took the order completely messed it up. This is unacceptable. At this point in time, the restaurant manager should have been trying to make amends, but we doubt he even heard about the mishap. It appeared that the workers at this place really could care less about the mistakes they made or trying to correct them. As for the food, the BBQ was decent tasting, but definitely not as good as we expected. The BBQ sauce was tasty, but on the watery side-- there was no substance to it at all. The mac and cheese was soggy and lukewarm. The potatoes were also barely warm and not crispy at all. In fact, they were a little on the soggy-soft side. The sweet potato fries were the same. I add that the temperature of the food was not due to us taking it far away from the restaurant itself-- in fact, we were barely 5 minutes away at the lake. To summarize, there are other great BBQ places in this area that deserve your business.

As an amateur smoker, I was excited to see this place so close to where I'll be staying for the next several days. I've got a refrigerator in my temporary residence so I went ahead and got a little bit of everything...except ribs. Sausage links were outstanding and so was the smoked chicken. The brisket was somewhat tough and lacked the distinct smoky flavor I was seeking. The pulled pork was acceptable but there seemed to be sauce already mixed into the pork, perhaps to mask the dryness of the meat. Definitely worth trying if you are in the mood some real BBQ.

Great food with fairly good service. I loved the st. Louis style ribs and the pull pork. The brisket was a little dry but was still very flavorful. The service was above average but they could still use another table attendant. My favourite part about this BBQ was the name alone... The Piggyback is, as the saying says, the best in swine dining!!!

When the name of the restaurant is Piggyback BBQ, you better live up to the name and this one misses it in a big way. Stepping up to the counter to order, my first choice was the Fried Green Tomato BLT. The girl at the counter says we have had a big week and are out of green tomatoes, it's only Tuesday. Mr. B asks about the ribs and she says they are the best. I come up with choice number 2, Turkey Club and Mr. B goes for the ribs. I can't even begin to tell you how disappointed we were. The Turkey BLT was flavorless. It was two thick slabs of smoked turkey and two slices of bacon, with lots of mushy tomato slices and limp lettuce. I took 2 bites and that was it. The side of 3 cheese mac and cheese tasted like velvetta cheese and it was cold. Now for the ribs, yuck. BBQ ribs are suppose to be tender fall of the bone, not I can't even cut them apart they are so tough. There were about 4 to 6 ribs and 3 of them were all fat. Mr. B was so disappointed. All of this for $26.00, which is way to much for the quality. The restaurant has a B rating and I can see why, it should be less. The sad part is, the restaurant is so cute. Set on the corner with picnic tables out front under large trees. The building is a restored quaint little house. It looks so inviting, but don't be fooled. They need a new chef and some one at the counter that is more outgoing and friendly as well as much better food.

My wife and I ate here when visiting for our first anniversary. Although the service was a little slow, it was worth the wait. She had the pulled pork sandwich and said it had a wonderful smokey flavor. I had the Montana Hot Dog, which I would recommend. It also had the pulled pork on top of the hot dog, and everything was well seasoned. If we are in Whitefish, we are coming back.

Loved it. Service was great. Food quality was very good. I had brisket, pulled pork and Smoked Chicken, loved them all. I ate more than I should have and brought home more than I ate. Reasonably priced and pleasantly surprised, I will be back.

Great BBQ, I love the pulled pork sandwich and their homemade hot sauce is flame! Coming from texas I can confidently say they've earned their spot at my table for great bbq. I had the sweet potatoe chips and fried okra sides which were both very good. The sweet potatoe fries were great but could have used more brown sugar, but the sauce they had for it was really interesting and made up for it.

Maybe it was the beautiful 80 degree weather or the very gifted young musician playing the rare stringed instruments but the BBQ dinner that my husband and I shared this evening was excellent. We ordered and shared the BBQ St, Louis-style smoked ribs and brisket. Both were excellent but the ribs were definitely our favorite. The sides (two sides and green chili cornbread were included with meal) were delicious but the potato salad was definitely the star. As mentioned, we shared the meal and left with full tummys - no way either of us could eat this meal on our own. Excellent food for a very modest price.

Its pretty decent. Enormous portions. Not really impressed with the regular BBQ sauce. But the Carolina mustard based sauce and the Hot Sauce certainly make up for it.

First of all of...I don't know why anyone would order a blt at a bbq joint. I am a total bbq snob, but for a small town in Montana I gotta say this place ain't bad at all. If you want a relatively cheap meal give this pace a try. We had the chicken wings to start...very tasty. Brisket didn't have much smoke flavor but was very tender and delish. Pulled pork is probably the star here. Not quite Carolina style, more like actual pulled pork...no chopping going on here. Big pieces of tender pork yummyness. Beans were solid as was the potatoe salad. Only real gripe is that the vinegar based slaw was a little dry.

I'm a bbq smoker from Georgia and pleasantly surprised to see this place. When we arrived we were greeted with friendliness. We were told they were out of ribs and buffalo burgers. Although trying their ribs was the main reason we wanted to eat there, we did order pulled chicken, brisket a regular burgers. We also ordered their nacho chips and fried tomatoes which were outstanding. The brisket and chicken had a decent amount of smoke and BBQ sauce flavor and not dried out. They were all good and the service was Great. I am going to be back to try out the rest of their menu where I can then see if they are truly within the ranks of southern smoking and BBQ.

We ate here at the recommendation of our hotel front desk. The food and ambiance were great, we ate outside and enjoyed the view. Service was pretty bad. they were not overly busy and we waited over an hour for our food. We overheard the wait staff apologizing to some people at adjoining tables because they were getting pretty restless waiting for their food. We didn't get any apology. Also had to practically throw ourselves at them to get our drinks refilled, which we had to do a lot of since we were waiting so long to get something to eat. So bottom line is, as long as you are not starving to death or in a hurry, great place to eat.

The bbq pulled pork here is excellent and portions very good. I never leave hungry. I love the traditional be sauce, and the slaw is a good vinegar based slaw. I've been around the block with bbq in several places and this is up there for me among the best. Service is very good and they care about their food and want you to enjoy it.

Disorganized disaster of a resturant. They acted like being busy was an excuse for rediculously crappy service. Waste of time!

I have eaten here before and loved this place, that all changed today. I ordered a french onion soup, first of all there was no bread and cheese on top like traditional french onion soup. There was a glob of cheese on the bottom and I found a dead fly in the soup. I was so disgusted and luckily it ended up landing on the side of my bowl and I didn't have to eat it. Sorry to say, I don't think I'm going to be eating here again. My husband called them and they were kind and wanted to offer us a new bowl of soup or refund, but we didn't care for either. There was no way I would have been comfortable trying to eat that soup again. I'm pretty sick to my stomach.

The barbecue meats and sauce were fine, But the cornbread and poorboy bread were terrible dry and many days old The service was slow and disorganized It se that no one was in charge We told our waitress the cornbread was very poor no follow up How can s barbecue joint serve bad cornbread?

Horrible experience for breakfast. The coffee is no longer Montana Coffee Traders, it tasted like it was reheated coffee and the server admitted that it was just a store brand that they heated from the night before. My coffee cup was literally dirty on the inside, I rubbed my finger and came up with some sort of slime. The server gave us skim milk for our coffee which immediately curddled. We had to ask her to take the coffee away as she did not seem to see a problem with this. My friend's skillet meal was served on an ice cold skillet, my meal was served in a paper boat. The server did not seem to see anything wrong with these things that we had point it out to her, we simply got up and left.

Drove a long way from Seattle, heard live music decided to check the place out. We were greeted & seated and that was the end of the service from this crap hole. After 10 min and no one came to check on us, my hubby went & got us beers. We sat & drank our beers for about an hour (go Mike Murray) no one came to check on us or take our orders. (we were starving!). A serious tourist trap, that's how they stay in business! Read the other reviews from locals, this place consistently provides shitty service!

We went a few days ago to the outdoor patio so we could bring our puppy. The patio was pet friendly. The place was busy and the servers seems stressed and scattered. It took an extra long time to get served we sat almost 1.5 hours before getting our mediocre meal. I had pulled pork that was very dry. The potato salad was good. They had music and it was good. We went back today August 8, 2015 and the service was slow again but the food was better. The owner needs to get this place in order because it could be great.

After a very long day of driving and sight seeing, I was so hungry that anything would have sufficed. You can guess how thrilled we were that this adorable restaurant turned out to be fabulous! The service was terrific and the barbecue was stellar! We sat and drank an IPA, ate our barbecue and listened to 2 guy band while the day light waned. Thank you, Piggyback, for a lovely end to a beautiful day vacationing in the state of Montana!!!

What a briskets, done to perfection. They have a lovely and spacious outside area, also welcoming dogs. Great food, dog friendly, which is so important for us since we are traveling with our doggie. We couldn't find any other place dog friendly in Whitefish, MT.

I'm done. I keep coming back since we live a few blocks away, but over it. Been eating here since it opened in the tiny place across Wisconsin ave, watched the service go downhill since it changed hands. Never been disappointed in my usual pulled pork sandwich, other than the price inching up 33% over the years. Pretty much everything else is bad. Tried the Fajitas tonight, 70 minutes later I was served a few oz of salty grizzle and soggy onions and peppers sitting in a 1/4" of oil with the wrong side. Heard the frazzled server apologize to to every table and promise the food would be out soon.. wished the table next to us good luck as I left, at least they were comped one of their rounds of drinks. With all the other great food in Whitefish, go somewhere else and have a great meal. Edit: Was suprised when my non-itemized bill came to $52 but just wanted to get home after our 90 minute meal. Got home upset and wrote this review, then started thinking about the bill: $16 crappy fajitas, my wifes $6 side salad, son's $5.99 kid meal one $6 glass of wine and two overpriced ($5?) draft beers= $44 by my math. Consider the extra a going away gift Piggyback.

I called to place a take away order last Saturday night. My conversation went just like this D = "I would like to place a take away order." PBB= "Nope we are just too busy we wont take your order" D= "you mean you dont want my $50 order?" PBB= "Nope we just cant take an order" D= "How long would it be?" PBB= "tomorrow" WOW! Thought that is exactly what they were suppose to do, make my food. My recommendation: Just don't got there

For appetizers, we had the fried green tomatoes and the dry rub wings. The wings were crispy and smokey, but lacking in flavor. The tomatoes were good especially when dunked in the ranch sauce. The ribs were excellent - nice smokey flavor, not overcomes with a nice snap to them. The criticism would be that the dry rub again could be a bit more flavorful. For a little extra, you can get a side of habanero hot sauce - really adds some heat! The Pulled pork was also really good and the bbq sauce not overly sweet. The beef brisket was on the dry side so I would not order it again. For sides we had the potato salad and baked beans. The potato salad was really good! The baked beans were on the runny side which means that in your bite you got a good amount of beans but not too much else (sauce, onions, etc). The Mac n cheese was also good - very cheesy with curly noodles so the cheese really stuck to the noodle surface, making for a good bite.

Called in Sunday night of Labor Day weekend at 8pm to see I they had space for 11 people. They quickly accommodated and we were offered the 8-10 person family style as our only option since it was late. The servers were very friendly and the food was really good. Also of note we had enough leftovers for another 5-6 people.

I'm really not sure how this place stays in business other than the fact that it's the only BBQ place in Whitefish. Because they are only about 3 blocks from our house we've stopped in there half a dozen times and I think there has only been one of those times that they weren't out of something we ordered. And if you call in to place an order, expect to be treated rudely or have your order messed up. All of that and the BBQ is mediocre at best. Take the extra time and drive to The Back Room in Columbia Falls.

  • R A.

We came here for dinner but decided to go elsewhere because neither of the two servers got around to taking our order. Seemed that the place was short-staffed and busy, but still, the servers saw us several times and yet did nothing to acknowledge us. Judging from the other reviews, I'm glad we left when we did. Yikes! Save time and find another restaurant.

4 ribs in a half rack? Poor service...waitress was not good though it was her first night. Pulled pork was really good but for the value? This ain't worth it. At least the beer was cold, the Mike Murray duo played good music, the weather was perfect.

A great BBQ place near the beach in Whitefish. We got the 3 meat plate which was cheap (~$15) and tasted amazing. The pulled pork and beef brisket were great, and came with a cup of warm house bbq sauce for dipping. Definitely recommend and will go again if I am ever in Whitefish.

Came in excited left disappointed. Cold cubano sandwich, cold Mac n cheese, nice service but took a look at the cook on the way out who was clearly a wake n bake teenager in an apathetic spiral. This is coming from someone who has appreciated many wake n bakes

Super casual little place. Seemed very relaxed. It was a snowy Thursday, and only saw one other car in the parking lot at 7pm. I wanted them to be still serving, because the smell wafting from there was divine. I went in and the server was really friendly, and said yes they were open. I brought in the rest of the family so we could decide on what to order to take back to the hotel. Again, the server - wish I got her name because she was so nice- very helpful in helping us narrow our choices. We ordered the buffalo burger, and the pork nachos. Everything tasted great and was filling. The nachos were just a half size order, but they filled the Togo container they were packaged in. My only complaint was that the buffalo chips didn't look like the pictures on their website. Instead of lightly browned and seasoned, maybe even crispy- ours were dark brown and soggy. Old grease? Old potatoes? Or just over cooked? Doesn't matter, I poured BBQ sauce over them and still enjoyed them. I wish I was in town longer, because I really want some more of their great BBQ!

I really want to love this place. Two blocks from home, live music from time to time and as Virginian there is so much about this place that I want to love, but.... Arrived at 5, couple of adults and a gaggle of kids, (yep, we are those people, but we tip huge and usually are kids are super). No sooner had we sat down then a group of 23 Canadian golfers show up looking for a table. We gladly move so they can pull some tables together. Then they start smoking, right next to our kids. Ok, guys weekend, what are you going to do, we move again. Couldn't the staff had asked them to smoke in the alley? No way they could not, because the two unenthused surly women working had bigger fish to fry, like getting the food out to the Candians who ordered a half an hour after us but were served before us. When we got our food 1 1/2 hours after ordering it was luke warm and bland. The ribs chewy and hard. Look, I'm not giving up on this place. Finding good help in Montana is tough, I get it. This place is consistently packed and this review isn't going to change that. Good things must be happening at this place but I left very disappointed. Get it together Piggy Back.

Great BBQ and friendly service! Now serving a delicious and very affordably priced breakfast menu--I loved my pork verde breakfast taco. A perfect pre-ski base that will last until lunch for under $4!!

The bluegrass band was awesome. So what if they didn't know that the song they sang was by Bob Dylan. The atmosphere outside at picnic tables on a balmy summer night was perfect, as was the service, food and live entertainment. We shared the 3 meat plate, choosing chicken, ribs and pulled pork?. All were fabulous. The BBQ sauce had a tinge of cumin which turned me off, but the plate also came with Thai chile sauce, a personal favorite. The best part of the meal was the cole slaw. Hands down the cole slaw.

I had the port platter. The pork was tougher than it should have been. The sauce was mediocre and couldn't fix tough. My wife had the turkey platter. The turkey was good, but the portion was small. Beans were good.

THE BEST BBQ IN WHITEFISH, MT, BAR NONE! We regularly order a take home box that has 1lb. brisket, 1lb. pulled pork, 1/2 or two 1/2 chickens, the best slaw I've ever eaten, beans extra sauce. I believe it was $48.00. In the summer the outdoor seating I found to be very comfortable; they jabs music when the weather is good outside. Order the "Deep Fried Pickles" if your eating there, they get a little soggy the further you have to drive home. My only complaint is one of the owners young child likes to stand and stare, we asked "Why are you standing there stare in at us?" She replied "I like to creep people out." We have been ordering "take out" recently. Pray for the child!

They are popular. That can be good and bad. If they tell you 35 to 40 min., it could mean (& did for me) one hour and counting. I'm still waiting only to find out they ran out of sweet potato chips. The live band has a cool vibe. They have a kind staff and offered me a water while I wait. I guess they should have been more realistic and said the wait would be an hour.

Essentially you will like this place if you like smoked meat and deep fried stuff in enormous quantities. The waitress we had seemed tired, but was still friendly and efficient. The food was great, but it should be noted that everything is smoked. If you don't like smoked meat this isn't the place for you. One quick tip: The 4-5 person platter has A LOT of food on it. It fed our 5 person family for 3 meals. Make sure to only order it if you want leftovers. The only thing that lost a star is that the tables should really be sanitized, not just wiped off. It isn't a huge deal, but it is something that could be improved.

Completely disappointed in not only the atmosphere, but the greeting as well. Portions were non balanced (90% chips with a splash of pork) sauce was basically non existent. Burnt chips as well. The pulled pork sandwich was soggy and tasted old if it even tasted like anything. The nachos at taco bell are better that this place. Save yourself time and disappointment.

The True Grit is a must have, if you brave ordering the full order, beware, it can feed a small army. Also, for a little kick on any dish try the grit sauce.

Please note: this review comes from a vegetarian. We picked this place because the first thing el Novio wanted upon entering Montana was to try buffalo meat, and this was the first place we found with it on the menu. Now, he enjoyed it, said it was pretty standard, nothing special. My veggie burger, however, while it get major props for being made in house didn't have much... Flavor. The meat eater gagged trying it. I also didn't care much for the not-so-cheesy-tasting-Mac-and-cheese I had on the side. The sauces in the table though, were FANTASTIC. they made both my mediocre menu items exceptionally palatable. Other fantastic things: beer selection, service, ambiance, the meat (I assume, if you're into that).

Pass on the sows at Piggyback & go ask for Brie at The Boat ClubYou'll be glad you did!! The way you treat your customers is key to the future success of any restaurant. We are in Whitefish often because my husband's business is here and our friends live here. Our friends were excited to take us to Piggyback- once we got there, they were so embarrassed by the waitress' behavior, I felt bad for our friends- they apologized all night afterward. None of us will ever go back to Piggyback. The server was rude beyond belief & we hadn't even sat down yet. When we were looking for a table, we inquired if there was an empty table available & were snapped at by the waitress & told she wouldn't even wait on us for 45 minutes because she was busy. Yes- she said that. She was too busy to serve us. We left & went to The Boat Club instead. WOW!! Piggyback's servers should go to the Boat Club & be trained by Brie. She was incredible! Enthusiastic and cared about having our business.

Great BBQ, loved the smoked turkey. Very casual atmosphere, with picnic tables outside. Everything was very good, including the ribs, cajun catfish, pulled pork and sweet potato fries. The slaw is different, a pile of cabbage with some dressing. Try it with the oil mixture at the table or mix in with the rest of your meal. The sauce is excellent. Service was very friendly, though a little on the slow side.

Went here based on yelp reviews and question the average persons palette. Staff=B waitress was friendly, and engaging. atmosphere=B outside patio, music, a plus Food=D chilli cold pulled pork cold ribs cool beans hot slaw decent Mac and cheese a complete joke. It is boiled shell noodles in a paper dish and ladled with some cheese stuff. By far the poorest plate i have seen in a restaurant. Rule #1, if you can not make a dish correctly, don't put it on the menu. I felt compelled to write this as nothing was good. I am not sure if it was an off day but there is no excuse for lack of trying. When a kitchen can't make basic temperatures either it is lack of training or lack of caring. Sorry,, wanted to like the place.

We could have turned this into a BBQ road trip, but not too many BBQ places to pick from over here in the area, so that put the brakes on that. We drove past here on the way to check out the Whitefish lake and decided to come the next day. The weather here is fickle, so we were lucky enough it warm and nice out because they have plenty of outdoor picnic tables. Lucky because everyone went outside and we were bee free inside... at least for five minutes. We got there around 7:30 and got seated right away. It was clear, pretty quick, that they had one waitress for the entire thing. While she took our order, in less than one minute, she had a line out the door. There were three tables inside and 6 tables outside, which all had no less than 5 people at them. She was doing her best to keep up and stayed really friendly. I did see a few people coming in and asking for drinks or to go boxes and the table next to us sat waiting fifteen minutes before she came back and left the check. They had been waiting to order dessert. With all that said, I think she did do a good job staying on top of things. Now to the good part, the food. I would have given them a 3, my husband said a solid 4. He likes the heavy smoke flavor and this place delivers a super smokey flavor on your meat. The wings we started with had such a good smokey flavor mixed with the dry rub, it made us question why we were not smoking wings at home. For a three meat combo ($14) you can pick from brisket, pulled pork, chicken, turkey and smoked sausage. I went with the turkey, chicken and brisket. The turkey I was surprised was super moist, however, there was something in the flavor overwhelming my taste buds. When I asked my husband if he wanted to try it, I threw him half of it and he loved it. He in turn gave me smoked sausage, which I didn't really want fearing the greasy, shiver feeling I might get from it. He assured me it was not that sausage. He was right. It was the best smoked sausage I've had in a bbq place. We got a 1/4 rack of ribs to split ($5). there are three bones in a small rack. I had one of them and it was not greasy and had good flavor and texture. The negative I will say, is they did not pull the silverback off the rib and when it smoked it turned into a not so fun to try to chew rib. It pulls off easy enough so crisis averted, eating commenced. The sides were okay. Another yelper I think, mentioned the mac N cheese is like Velveeta and shells, they are right. It needed salt or something. The slaw has relish mixed in and it is a vinegar based slaw, which normally I love, but did leave a lot of mine behind. My husband had the potato salad, which was average. He did get the Cajun rice that looked dried out and sad. I noticed he was not eating it and he said it was just okay. For the price, it is worth checking out, they give you plenty of food and it does have a good smokey flavor to it. They don't have cornbread, only hush puppies and honey butter. I grew up in Kentucky where everyone ate them with ketchup, so I had to have ketchup to find they only have ketchup packs here. They have fries on the menu, so I wondered about that. Ketchup packs just didn't fit this place, they were better than mere ketchup packs. If in Whitefish, I would recommend going and trying it for yourself, we did not leave hungry by any means. I came back to edit the review because three people have asked me if the pickles were good... sorry, totally forgot to add that in the review, I loved them. They had a the perfect amount of seasoning. My husband is spoiled on the thick spears at Fire on the Mountain, but he managed them pretty well. I would definitely add them to the order.

Absolutely terrible! Our order took over two hours to be brought out to our table (table of 4 people) the appetizer alone took over an hour. Once our dinner was brought out it didn't get any better. The Mac n cheese was disgusting and freezing cold (as if it was placed in the refrigerator) it was noodles with a gross cheese sauce, the cornbread was cold and had absolutely no taste, the turkey tasted as if it was pre packaged and the ribs were very dry. You would think waiting two hours for your food it would AT LEAST be warm. I will never go back and advise everyone I know to never go..... Ever.

So my family and I decided to check this place out because Yelpers gave good ratings. We decided to take it out to go so we could drive down and enjoy it at Whitefish Lake. We ordered for 8 people. We ordered four beef brisket sandwiches, two buffalo burgers, brisket chile, and a po'boy brisket sandwich. The waitress warned us it will be awhile, which we didn't mind. We finally got our food after 40 minutes. We left and headed to the lake. As we started to open up our meals, we were missing an order our Po' Boy sandwich. We called them up to let them know of the mistake and she forgot to ring it up. My hubby had to drive back to pick it up. Mind you, we barely got a parking space at the lake. My friends that got the four beef brisket sandwiches, well that order ended up being four pulled pork sandwiches. They messed up the order. My hubby came back with a sandwich which he opened up again.... Not a Po' Boy brisket sandwich. This time I called and gave them a piece of my mind. The waitress apologize and saying that she had to pay for the sandwich herself and that she could deliver us a new sandwich. At this point, we were very hungry. Funny thing, we gave her a hefty tip so technically we paid for the sandwich. The buffalo burgers pre-made patties. Not something great. The pulled pork my friends did not order, was not as good as its competitors (The Shak) and the beef brisket was not as tender, chewy. The sauces were all watery. Their cole slaw was pretty good, not a mayo base. The service was horrible since they got every order wrong. Funny thing is, they weren't packed. Overall experience, thumbs down. Would not recommend!

This review is for July 11, 2012. The food and ambience might be great (as seen in other reviews), but our stop here was not a good experience, and we tried to make the best of it. First, DON'T ARRIVE LATE. Our fault - the sun is still shining like late-afternoon that far north, and it threw us off the entire week we were there. So, when we arrived (8-ish PM?), we were not fully aware of the time. When we went in, we were told that they were closed, but I think when they saw the party of 7, they figured it was the best way to get rid of the food still remaining without having to take the loss. So after we were told it was closed, then we were told by another woman that they were NOT closed, so "please, have a seat". So we sat. Once seated, we were told that they were out of chicken and pork ribs. Okaaayyy... I mean ribs is the main reason for going to a BBQ restaurant, yes? So once we started asking questions about the menu, the woman (actually, a very young girl) had a very difficult time answering our questions about the menu. One of the first things your staff should be familiar with (besides washing hands when leaving the restroom) IS TO KNOW THAT MENU INSIDE AND OUT. She had to leave the table several times to go to the kitchen to get the information we needed. This unfamiliarity with the menu also extended to their wine and beer list - she didn't know what was being served, nor did she know the prices. When we finally got our food, anyone who ordered hush puppies and sweet potato fries had to contend with them being very dry and overcooked - almost burnt, like they had been sitting under the heat for a while, then quickly thrown back into the fryer to "freshen them up" (see? I tell you, they were trying to dump "old" food on paying customers who arrived late). The food came out so randomly and slowly, that we, as a group, did not eat together. Also, after several requests for water from various people at the table, she finally remembered to bring it. Actually, we had to ask another staff member to get the water. My meal came last, after the other six were already or almost done with their plates, so I felt a little rushed to eat mine. Also, annoying - the waitress, who is about 25 years my junior, kept calling me "hon". I don't know if that's supposed to be part of the BBQ restaurant ambience or what, but I found it irritating, probably because I was hungry. If it's too late to serve good food, then don't serve the bad. The last thing a restaurant needs to contend with is a lousy rating because of the experience we unfortunately had.

Warm summer evening, wonderful live guitar duo, outside picnic table shared with a friendly local couple, cold local craft beer and an amazing plate of ribs, buffalo chips (way better than a baked potato) cole slaw and a dash of light rain that lasted only several minutes. What a fabulous way to enjoy an evening! This place is awesome.
