Great find for dinner while traveling on business. I'm sure the locals know about it but i had a nice salad, dinner and glass of wine for $30. Great waiter service too. I'll be back this week for another try.

I love spicy food (seriously, I do) but not so spicy that I cannot enjoy my meal. The kitchen overdid it with the red chilis on the vegetarian pasta entree I ordered last night. The red pepper sauce had too much garlic and heat on it, making it unpleasant to eat after the first few bites. The pasta itself was lovely, a perfect al dente. But the spicy heat was over the top. I'll try this restaurant again. Maybe I was there on a bad night.

I love this place. The bacon wrap steak is the best! Service has always been good. The foods always great. I've brought a coworker from Seattle and NY to this place and they both thought it was one of the best restaurants they've been to which coming from Seattle and NY I would say is a pretty good compliment. This is one of my must haves when I come to visit.

The linguini's always fresh on Broadway They say there's marinara to spare But when you're sitting in your seat Wondering what more to eat The pasta's gone and your plate is bare. The wait staff treats you fine on Broadway Talking to them helps you, bro 'Caus how do you know what wine will jive When all you've got is twenty-five And Abe and Andy don't drink Merlot. They say your meal won't last too long on Broadway I'll have no food left when I'm ready to pay And they're dead right, I know this time 'Caus all I've got are words to rhyme And I won't quit 'til I've said my bit on Broadway ...

I came here for dinner one night and I'm hooked, i had a crab pasta that i cant quite forget about. Our server was awesome, he was helpful in our selection of wine and dinner. We ordered Tasmanian Sweet Crab and Clam Sauce, both were fresh and delicious. Cant wait to return!

Great food and romantic atmosphere. The wait staff is always experienced and polite. Great wine selection, and some very unique and delicious dishes. Always a good choice to impress a date ;)

Exceptional food! Good customer service, clean, organized, and friendly. A slice of Montana's hospitality. Very busy place, show up early so you don't have to wait too long!

Friendly service, small town charm, and one of the best rib eyes I've had in a long time.

Props to the staff! BEST customer service! Our waitress made sure we were taken care of before we needed anything. I travel all over the country and have eaten at all type of restaurants. I love when my drink is refilled before its all the way empty. It shows we are being serviced. I loved the decor and "cave" like booths. Super beautiful setting. The food was very good. Pesto was dry in my opinion, but flavor was great. A definite must eat at spot!

While visiting Helena, I had the opportunity to eat at On Broadway twice. Once with my family and then with my spouse .. both times the food was pretty good. My fav is the antipasto plate (yum). The lobster/crab cakes were meh as was the salmon dinner. The filet wrapped in bacon was divine though . . would get that again. Would definitely visit this restaurant again :-)

I would like to say that our greeter was not a very nice man and was really rude. Our server was extremely nice and very knowledgeable. Took the time to explain the menu and made some great suggestions. Food came out fast and hot and was really good. Service is great. I will definitely go back, I just hope that they have a new greeter because he is not nice or inviting. If his attitude doesn't change next time I will not go back again. I work too hard for my money to be treated like that.

Excellent customer service from the host the busboy our server and the live performers! That said, I had the Ribeye Steak Broadway and it was one of the better steaks I've eaten. The homemade creamy parmesan salad dressing and fresh greens were awesome as well. However, it was my friend's birthday and we asked about desert (although we were really full) and our server suggested that we have the Huckleberry Rum Swirl Cheesecake. Okay, if that didn't just put the perfect finishing touch on a very memorable meal! The cheesecake is made fresh daily in the restaurant and it was creamy and delicious! Give em a try, I doubt you'll be disappointed!

The Best Place in Town...Hands Down. If you happen to wait for a table...no worries you can order an appetizer and a drink at the bar or table before seated, as we did last night! The mussels were fresh and hot sharing it with a bottle of the On Broadway Malbec! When we got to our table we were greeted by Shawn a long time waiter with mounds of knowledge and experience. We ordered the house special, Ahi tuna with a strawberry reduction and a hint of spice. Again, the food was cooked to our liking and surely recommended. To top it all off we had the chocolate moose for dessert...oooh so dreamy and delicious. I have been here more than dozen times, and I have NEVER been dissatisfied with any of my food experiences!! On Broadway is and always will be a first choice in my book!!

Visited Helena for a few days from SoCal. Nice Italian restaurant that had live music with lots of local talent. The food was good; recommend basil pasta (families favorite) or lasagne. Large servings enough to share and sample or take-away. Short wait for a table; popular spot highly recommended by locals.

Prosciutto Angel Hair, Filet Mignon, Teriyaki Tenderloin, Halibut, etc. etc. It's all delicious. They have great drinks as well. This is easily one of the best places to go out for a nice dinner in Helena.

This is our go to place whenever we are celebrating something. Ambiance: The restaurant is designed really cool with about five two tops set on a bridge like structure looking over the whole restaurant. Food: Yet to have a bad pasta here. My favorite is the Gorgonzola Pasta. The lamb skewer appetizers are also great. They make their own pasta in house and you can definitely taste the quality. They have a pretty decent wine list, and their mixed drinks are great too. I recommend getting their early or plan to have drinks and an appetizer in the bar while you wait. They can get quite busy and will start to turn people away. Service: It's always fantastic. I have never had a bad service here.

Best place I've eaten in Helena in the 14 months I've lived here! The waiter was great, and food was delicious. I'm a vegetarian, so eating out in Montana can be a challenge of you don't want to eat a side salad all of the time, so we just told the waiter that and he recommended some delicious dinners for us! We never even opened the menu. I will be back!!

I always enjoy coming here. One of my favorite things is the creamy Parmesan salad dressing! Also recommend the pasta dishes because their noodles are fabulous. Good place to get a Moscow mule as well.

The Grilled Mozzarella is really good. The half order is good for 2 maybe 3 people, you do get 3 little finger sandwiches. The Filet Mignon as well as the NY Steak really needs seasoning. You MUST salt the steaks a bit before grilling. But it was cooked perfectly. Service at the bar was really good, with the bartender being prompt with taking our order, cleaning up dishes, and getting us our next course. I'll have to come back and try the house made pasta.

The chicken Marsala is chalky and over cooked. Soupy with no resemblance of Marsala sauce and topped with tons of red onions. Why? My friends pesto was clearly canned and over cooked pasta.

This was quite a surprising find even all the reviews were high I was a bit skeptical. The atmosphere was great the service was much better than what I'm used to and the food was amazing. I had the special which was Hawaiian ahi and for dessert I had Huckle berry rum cheesecake one of the best cheesecakes I've ever eaten. Highly suggest going to this intimate and tasty spot.

Expensive and the food is just okay. Waitstaff at times can not be bothered to acknowledge you. Antipast appetizer is good for a group.

On Broadway is an old Helena standby, and truly a Helena experience. They have a dish for everyone, but my favorites are the homemade pasta dishes. Hard to find or match in quality and deliciousness. Nice wine selections and nice atmosphere. Great service. My favorite spot to go out for a special occasion! :)

3 simply because I have never eaten there. I am new to Helena and I popped in to see what the place was about. I enjoyed the live band enough that I sat and had a drink. The atmosphere is great, I will be going back to try their menu

I had to choose between this and Lucca's on my short stay into town and I had ended up at a brewery near here and just happened to see it, so I decided to stop in and eat. Boy, was that a good decision. I was told that there was a 20 minute wait, which wasn't ridiculous but I decided to eat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and easy to talk to, he recommended a couple of dishes that looked delicious but I just wasn't in the mood for. I ended up going with a clam sauce dish that was supposed to have a little heat. I ordered a Captain and coke, and it was alright, and the meal came with rolls (tasty) and a salad. He mentioned all of the dressings that were house-made and I went with a parmesan dressing. Usually I can't stand anything but ranch, (call me uncultured) but this dressing was delicious and the salad was fresh. The meal was prompt and it was sure delicious. I was glad I went with a lighter sauce as I'd been eating heavier food this weekend. The clams and sauce tasted very very good, but lacked any kind of heat/spice which wasn't disappointing after all as I think that that might have detracted from the meal. This experience was awesome, and I would go here again, definitely.

I've decided that the best way to go here is to sit at the bar and have drinks and appetizers. Service was curt but competent and prompt, the drinks flawless, and the appetizers were far more appealing, inspired, fresh, and well-executed than the rest of the usual menu. Think of it as an excellent tapas opportunity rather than a "meal" place, although I left full and happy.

  • TL S.

Absolutely unbelievable. It had been years (10+) since I had been here, not because of a bad experience just because I never think of it. Went here at 7:30ish on a Thursday and it was packed which is definitely a good sign. The server, Daisy, did an amazing job and recommended something to my friend that wasn't exactly on the menu which turned out to be fantastic. I had the shrimp and scallops pancetta and still can't stop talking about how good it was. I will be back soon and often.

On Broadway is a welcome respite from the sandwich-heavy culinary choices of Helena. The specials are both tasty and creative. If you have four or fewer people, ask for a booth or table upstairs. They are charming and intimate. You can enjoy a drink and conversation. (There's a great selection of wine and microbrews.)The creamy parmesan dressing is to die for and so are the seafood dishes. The only downside is that they don't accept reservations. Busy nights can be a bit of a wait. That said, the stellar service and delightful food is worth waiting a few minutes with a glass of wine or your favorite beer.

  • Dimitri T.

I think I would give 4 stars for the food and the place (good and nice but nothing exceptional). The 5th star is for the waitress, Elyse, which, in addition to being effective, is charming (and know some words in French). So a really good place to dinner in Helena

Fabulous. The shrimp and scallop pancetta over linguine was incredible. The fennel cream sauce was so good! My wife had the cannelloni and said it was the best she'd ever had. Good atmosphere. Good service. They do not take reservations so be prepared for a short wait.

Love On Broadway!! I'm a little biased because my fiance proposed on the fire tower hill after a wonderful meal here but now this is where we spend all pur special occasions and celebrate our accomplishments. The hubbys favorite is the grilled mozzarella sandwiches while I am pretty partial to the chilled artichoke appetizer...not to mention I love the wine list! This is a romantic spot, we particularly love sitting in the loft area. Overall, great food for not a horrific amount of money on a special night out!

  • Nancy M.

I kind of got a homey feel for this place since we were seated in the loft section overlooking the rest of the dining room. It was fun to watch the cooks and servers from above and we enjoyed our meal.. The food isn't outstanding but I liked the salad and the fresh rolls that come with the dinner. The food is good but nothing original or outstanding. We had good service and enjoyed the ambiance of the upper level with a nice glass of wine.

In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in Helena. Excellent Italian Marinara sauce, in house made salad dressings, good local beer, unpretentious, friendly staff. We are only here in the summer and live in the big city the rest of the year and miss it every year.

Still the best in service and excellent cuisine. Comfortable atmosphere, personable staff and totally delectable food. They have fine tuned their game to perfection. If you're from out of town and will have only one dinner out, this should be the place.

This is my go-to special date restaurant. Classy, and fantastic food. I love their menu, and I've never ordered anything that wasn't absolutely excellent. Perfect for a nice night out.

Been eatin' there for 30 years. It's a Helena staple, relaxing atmosphere, consistently good servers, and predictably good food. Not inspired food, not elegant food. But good dependable well prepared food, starting with the unlimited basket of fresh cuban rolls from the Sweet Grass Bakery, the simple but flavorful dinner salads. On to an always-pleasing array of satisfying entrees, and finishing with enjoyable, sharable deserts. For a light fare, just do a chardonnay with salad and crab cakes. Never unhappy with OB!

On Broadway has significance for my family-3 of my brothers worked there when they were in high school and when we have our homecomings in Helena we go to dinner there. I try something different every time and continue to be underwhelmed. It is consistently bland and uninspired. Most dishes seem to be made with an abundance of salt and lots of mediocre cheese. The service is adequate and the atmosphere doesn't seem to have changed since the early 80s so it's great if your'e into the dark woods and poor lighting. Not that Helena has a lot of options for better restaurants but try something else.

On Broadway is a Helena favorite. If you want good, hearty Italian in a casual atmosphere then this is your place. Reservations are not required or accepted, so on busy nights you may have to wait for 20 minutes. There is ample seating in the bar and the pours of wine are very generous, so it easy to get comfortable there! The pasta is made fresh and is always wonderful. I really like their ceasar salads. The dressing is clearly made from scratch and anchovies top it off. Our favorites are any of the pesto dishes or the spicy clam sauce pasta. We always have enough food to take home for lunch the next day. As I said before, the glasses of wine are generous and they have a good selection. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is casual enough to bring your kids but still feels intimate enough for a date or small gathering. We like sitting upstairs. You feel like you are at your own little table but can still watch everyone downstairs in the kitchen and dining room. The prices are reasonable; no more than the chain joint down the road and with better food and service too. On Broadway is one of our go to restaurants for a casual evening with great food, drinks and hospitality.

Best restaurant in helena. Hands down. I moved away for school and it is the only restaurant I miss and crave! If you come across On Broadway on yelp, then I absolutely suggest you visit and eat your heart out! They have great portion size, excellent food, drinks and the best service in town!

We stopped here at about 8:00 pm on a road trip, and we were very happy that we did. We had excellent service from a waiter named Sean. He was very attentive and accommodating. Our food arrived quickly and was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and high quality. We had lasagna (apparently the same guy has been making it since the 80s). We also had the filet and putenesca. Each dish came with a nice side salad that included some very yummy tomatoes and house made dressing. They also make their own pastas in house. We would definitely go back again. Thank you On Broadway!

This is one of the best places for an evening out. Everything we've had was delicious. Make sure you try the mussels.

THe service here was great! i just find thier food to be a bit on the blah side... i had a tuna salad there once and the tuna was super dry, and the vinegrette was orangey and sugary... and there was a littl ebit of spinach, a few slices of onion/blan tomato, and lots of filler lettuce. i prefer tastes with a bit more "umph" and "pow... this is good!" flavor. (i like goat cheese, blue cheese, dark chocolate, spinach, suchi, dark wine, black coffee etc...) if you think that micro mac and cheese and hot pockets are fine, you will Rerally Really like there food. i would rather go to silver star steak co. any day

On Broadway has been a Helena staple for me close to twenty years now. Neither their service nor food is exceptional. But it's consistently good. Love the steamed mussels and the ceasar salad. Most of the pasta items and seafood entrees are passable. Be wary of the specials, and the steaks are so so. All this said, it is the best place in Helena.

I've eaten here before (many years ago). After a funeral our family wanted to go somewhere to enjoy a meal and be together. We called and they said "We don't accept reservations, so if you have a larger party have someone come earlier to reserve the space". So we did. We showed up at 6:10pm for a 7pm dinner for 18. When we got there - there were several open tables as well as a completly empty entry/cocktail area (didn't really look "cocktail" looked more like seven empty tables in the front of the restaurant, three empty tables directly across from the bar and at least three empty four tops in the main area of the restaurant. But the manager who was training a hostess said "We don't have the capacity to handle your party." We were very open to being creative we told him. "We don't have enough servers" he said. My friend and I said - we waited tables for over a decade or more each - we will run the food, we are mellow, tip big and just need to be accomodated in this special situation. "We just cannot handle your party." We told him what we were told over the phone...he said "If you REALLY wanted your party to be here - you should have showed up at 5:30 when we open." We were never told there was a problem - if we had been told to show up at 5:30pm we would have. "Well, who did you speak with? Someone in the kitchen?" Clearly, I can't tell you it was someone in the kitchen - it was someone who worked here though..."Do you have a name?" No. This was a total diappointment. My husband is a caterer and he would have been disgusted with the way we were treated. It was clear that this man did not want to make any money for the restaurant - if he was my manager I would have fired him. The food here is fine, but over priced and if you're gonna pay for over priced pasta and steak you might as well get good service. This is NOT the best food in Helena - go to the Windbag for a better meal and WAYYYYYYYY better service! This was a crappy way to end an emotional day of funeral and burrial and even sadder when the place would not make the slightest effort to accomodate us. I'll never go back!

I've frequented On Broadway for several years now and I am personally a big fan. The food isn't particularly original or innovative but it is consistently delicious. Every time I go I order the pesto pasta and a piece of chocolate mouse. Both of which are sooo good. Advice: If you like peppery salad dressing, you must try the house Italian dressing! It's amazing. I always make sure to save some of my roll so that I can mop up all the extra when I'm done with my lettuce. Skip the appetizers. I tried most of them, and there all so so. Better just to save room for the entre which is plenty big. On Thursday nights, there is usually live music, most often jazz. It makes for a great atmosphere. We usually try to go on Thursdays figuring if we are going to spend this much on meal (On Broadway is pretty pricey for Helena), we might as well enjoy the fun local music scene!

My family has been dining at On Broadway ever since it opened over 25 years ago. I've since moved away but make it a point to have dinner there whenever I visit Helena. Every time it is just as good as I remembered. We recently celebrated my father's 90th birthday there and they made it very special. They don't take reservations but quickly seated our party of seven. The atmosphere is upscale without being pretentious. Our waiter Sean was friendly, knowledgable and attentive but not intrusive. Most of our dinners were excellent. The house salads are huge with a nice variety of dressings. For entrees we had Chicken Broadway, cannelloni, clams with linguini and a halibut special, all delicious. Only the eggplant del sol was not a success, with mushy eggplant and a tasteless sauce. The wine selection was good and the wines by the glass were reasonably priced. We were too full to order dessert but shared a tasty chocolate mousse cake they gave my dad. On Broadway is the place to go for a special celebration or any time you are looking for an excellent meal.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
