Great kabobs and garlic fries. We had good service too, although it took a while to get the food.

Awesome, fresh ground burger and homemade onion rings! Great outdoor seating, and fun atmosphere. A great find on our travels through Montana.

I don't know for what people go to Butte, but maybe this place is at least local's favorite restaurant. they serve pretty much american food, such as hamburgers, steaks, ribs, etc. the price is reasonable, and the food is quite good, too. the atmosphere of the restaurant is very casual. it's a restaurant, but it's a bar.

We enjoyed our meals at Fred's. The prices seemed to be a little on the high side for lunch however we thought they might be the standard for the area. We would definitely return for another meal if we have an occasion to be in Butte. :)

Waited 40 min to order. Food took another 20. Ribs were good but the pork chop was dried out and the onions undercooked. Asked for a glass of water which never arrived. Way too expensive for lousy service and mediocre food.

Fred's is a local favorite, and a great place to bring visitors. I would recommend practically anything on the menu, but I prefer their burgers and kabobs. Their sandwiches and salads are also excellent. It can be crowded during weekends or events, but that's because it's popular and they have good food. A few times I have had clumsy or slow service, but it's been limited to busy evenings when the staff is stretched thin. Some items are priced high, but the menu has a lot of options and you can always find a moderately priced meal. The portions are very large and satisfying, especially for the price. Fred's has always been a quality dining experience with good food and a nice atmosphere. It sounds like Julian caught them on a bad night, so I hope potential visitors put more credence into reviews that are based on more than a single visit.

Our lunch/ dinner was excellent! Onion rings were delicious! I loved the cheeseburger made with ciabatta bread. Definitely a place to remember

Great food especially the parmesan, service was absolutely horrible. They never refilled our waters until we got up and walked over and asked them to. She never came by and asked if we wanted anything or if our meal was okay.

Excellent food, great service and great ambiance. We had the kabobs, sirloin, chicken and veggie. Well cooked, firm veggies, tender meat. We also had the garlic fries which were doused with light (Parmesan) cheese. Epic! We will be back, no complaints of any sort!

The pork ribs were dryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy as the Saharan desert.

We visited Butte in July 2015 and stopped at Fred's for dinner. I had the steak sandwich and my friends had a rack of ribs. The sandwich was super delicious, very tender and had a fantastic smoked taste. The steak was on a very good ciabatta bread. My friends loved their ribs. When in Butte, I will definitely go back.

Used to be one of my favorite stops in butte. Food was good but service was not friendly or helpful. Also no kids menu??

Food is outstanding but the staff is absolutely horrid. I received food with a hair in it and they got pissed for me sending it back.

I rolled into Fred's after a long day of driving, and mesquite was just the word I needed! My family and I sat down famished and left happy and ready for more driving! We enjoyed the food and outdoor seating area. It was nice to check out Butte from the patio. The food was great! We especially likes the garlic fries, the steak kabob and the side veggies. The flavor was great on all of these dishes. The veggies and Caesar salad were really nice, I appreciate a place that pays attention to the "healthier" stuff, too! And the mesquite verdict was good! The chicken was flavorful and perfectly charred, but could have used some extra sauce. The only hiccups were in service, each step of the meal from seating to ordering to food delivery took a while. Otherwise, great dinner overall! Yum!

Had a nice dinner here last night. It's kind of a restaurant/pub place with a nice outside patio. Was too chilly to be outside. They have a good micro brew selection and it was all cold. My wife and I shared a steak sandwich and Fred's Garlic Fries. it was all very good. Our server was attentive and did a great job. We would recommend it as a stop when looking for reasonably priced good food in Butte.

In the past I have eaten at Fred's and it has been good, but tonight was a different experience. Steak sandwich was okay. Garlic fries came out cold. But the other things we saw made it a very strange night. Posted hours are until 9pm. I saw multiple parties turned away just past 8:30. Saw one of the line cooks eating while cooking, then saw them change into their tank tops. Unappetizing to say the least. Just overheard one of them dropping the ol' "F-bomb" while typing this. Not impressed at all with Fred's tonight.

I have been to Fred's twice and liked is both times. Fish and ships May of needed more portioning but it was good. But the pasta is amazing

This is the second and last time I'm eating at Fred's. let me say that the food tasted great both times and that's why we decided to go back a second time. We arrived early and there were only a few people in the place so we sat near the kitchen. That's when my wife noticed that all of the cooks touched the food with there bare fingers. I also witnessed the head chef, remove a steak from its wrapper and place it on the grill with his bare fingers and then wipe his fingers on his shirt. Shortly after, he was touching another dish with his bare fingers arranging something on it. I guess he doesn't know that raw meat has bacteria and handling raw food and cooked food with your fingers is a no no. I also saw another chef doing the same thing. Wiping your fingers off on your shirt doesn't remove the bacteria. Too bad, the food tasted great, but not worth the risk of getting sick.

The food was good, but it seemed severely understaffed. We were there on a Thursday night, waitress only made it around once to give us food. We had to go inside to get the bill, then had to go back inside to deliver the bill and get a box after 15 mins. To her credit, she was swamped, but seriously?

Fred's used to be a very good restaurant. We went there about once a month. The food was always good and served hot. We went in mid- December 2013. We waited over an hour for our food, and when it came, everything was cold. When we told our server, she did bring me a replacement order of onion rings, but didn't really seem too concerned about the situation. We tried it again in mid-January, 2014. The food was cool, but not cold. Still not hot, like it should be. We had the same server as in December. We finally went back last Saturday, hoping that they had got their act together again. We were served cold steak and chicken. Fries and onion rings were hot. Why not the steak and chicken? Same server as the other two times. They weren't even very busy last Saturday! Three strikes, and they're out! Never going back! And this used to be one of our most favorite restaurants in Butte!

We had the calamari sandwich and parmesssan chicken sandwiches. Both with a side of garlic fries. We took half of each home since the portions were so big, which allowed us to have a piece of caramel cheesecake. All of these were FANSTASTIC! And to make it better, the service was great. All that food, pkus three mixed drinks came to under $45!

Not good. Raw burger after I sent it back once. Other plates at the table bad as well.

I live in Butte and Fred's has been one of my favorite places to eat, but in the past couple years it has gone down hill. The service is usually fine, up until they turned us away about a week ago at 8:30 p.m. On my last two previous occasions i have just been disappointed. The food has been cold and bland, including their onion rings, which used to be to die for. I will not return and do not recommend. The Montana Club is consistently good.

I think this place was pretty good. We enjoyed some microbrew and ribs. Food was good, service was good. Our waitress helped us pick the brew by providing samples. I like the size of the restaurant. Even though it was not busy when we were there I can see that it can accommodate a pretty good crowd. Too bad it was winter so sitting outside was not going to happen. Business hours were good for us.

Good food, good lunch service. Fried zucchini was amazing, ribs and steak kabobs were very good, Alfredo was okay. My only complaint is too much sauce, and the prices were a little steep.

The food here was pretty good and our waiter was very helpful and nice. I like the atmosphere and the fact you can eat outside during the warmer months.

Average steakhouse. No potatoes for side dish except fries. Caesar salad was average. Ribeye was ok. Very friendly staff.

We were in town for a hunting trip and stopped here because my husband is an avid bbq-er and meat smoker; so we're always comparing this kind of food to our own. The prices here are a little more than we expected to pay for at lunch hour but the food was great (the best alfredo sauce I have EVAR had!) and all of the servers and cooks very pleasant and prompt. The place was clean, well decorated and comfortable. We enjoyed watching them cook food over a mesquite-fed grill and they didn't mind us tourist-types snapping pics and asking question, either!

Chicken strips with extra batter!! OMG! ******* nothing like them anywhere. Very good short order food, no need to keep going up the hill to Sparkies. Better wait staff too!

Great kabobs (skewers), I usually get 2-3 meat and vegatables, plus some fried goodies, I usually meet my cousins here for lunch, whenever I am home. I can't speak for the cost as someone else always pays for it. Great food though.

We went here for lunch today and I had a unique Caesar salad with avocados. The dressing was delicious and a bit spicy (which was cool). I didn't get to taste much else because my salad was so big and I was going to eat every bit of that avocado! My friends cleared their plates as well and the rest of the menu items (and things I saw walk by for other patrons) looks good too. I'd gladly return to try something different.

Eaten here twice, one year apart. First experience blew us away, it was so unexpectedly good. Onion rings, fries, pasta and atmosphere was good enough that we went out of our way to eat here again while traveling through. Second was disappointing, onion rings were cold, service was a total fail. The garlic, parmasean and cilantro fries were the only thing that remained as good as we remembered. Our waitress was very slow to respond to our requests even though it wasn't that busy.

I always hate giving 1 star, but it is deserved. We were in town for a business conference, and we searched Butte for a restaurant that met 2 criteria: 1. Still in business 2. Maybe possibly decent food Unfortunately, the first criteria made it difficult to locate a restaurant. We happened upon Fred's by simply wandering aimlessly. It has a nice outdoor seating area and a nice vibe to it. Well, the food was ridiculous. Our party had an order of the garlic fries (not terrible) onion rings (pretty good) then things went downhill... An order of the Special pasta (awful), the ribs (also awful) and the NY Strip (not too bad actually) So, the bill was $97 too! In Butte?! You've got to be kidding me. Some advice? Skip it. You're better off at McKenzie River Pizza across town.

Very good food, very slow service. I would have given a higher rating were it not for the extremely slow service. We were told they were a waitress short on the first visit, but the wait for food on the second visit was even worse, 55 minutes.

I have been to Fred's several times, usually on the list when we are in SW Montana on vacation. I find the outdoor (summer) tables to be quite pleasant. The service I have had was pretty good. I have not broadly sampled the menu, but the "American Food" items have all been good. The burgers are served on more of a cibata roll (sp) than a sponge/traditional burger. It could come as a surprise. Very good, but way too much me. Get the fries, not the onion rings. My 'rings were dried out and WAY over done (should have sent them back). My companion's fries on the other hand were delicious. Doesn't take American Express Card (as of 6/30/2010)

Food was GREAT!. Four of us ate for dinner. Three had hamburgers and they were huge on ciabatta buns. I had a steak kabob and veggie kabob. the steak was tender and veggies good served on a ciabatta bun. It was fresh made. I had the caesar salad as my side and it was good and fresh. The dressing was delicious. The only thing a little lacking was the refilling of my tea and my friends coke. We were almost finished eating when the waiter came back to ask about refills. The check was prompt after we finished.

I just joined Yelp, so this is a review of a place our family happened on by accident last summer while in Butte. We loved it. Great American food. Nothing too fancy, but great flavor. The atmosphere was informal. I liked the log cabin feel. We arrived late, but the wait staff was very flexible. My impression is that there aren't too many choices in Butte-this restaurant surprised me by being so good.

Nice, clean and crowded. Maybe they've raised the prices since 2007, but I thought the food was overpriced, $28.00 for a steak. Perhaps it was because it was crowded, but I thought the service was unfriendly and slow. Don't order drinks with mango, they're cut with the core included so you'll end up with all the fiber in your drink. Fruit drink with fiber is like drinking cat fur. Ugh=hairball. The bbq chicken sandwich was well cooked and tasty. Bottomline meh
