I ate lunch at the West End Restaurant in Waveland, MS on 4/17/2015. It was my 1st time there. I had a cup of the crab shrimp bisque ($6.00) and a shrimp poboy ($10.00). My sweet tea was $1.75. All the food was good and Angie, my server, did a fine job. Plus, I took photos.

I was only moderately impressed with West End. We only came because of a gift card and likely will not return. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant, but the location on Hwy 90 is a far fetch from other local restaurants located over on the gulf. As such, I expect for the food to make up for the views of speeding traffic. We started with fried green tomatoes and chargrilled buffalo oysters. The tomatoes were ok, but the oysters were good and certainly the highlight of the meal. They reminded me of the BBQ oysters served at Redfish Grill in New Orleans even though they weren't nearly as good. They needed to be covered in more of the Crystal (I think...) buerre blanc sauce. For entre, we had the special plate of blackened fish and shrimp atop a creamy crawfish pasta. Luckily, my wife and I shared the dish... it was HUGE, and $28. We had lots of leftovers. The fish was ok, but the pasta needed a lot of salt. It was greatly underseasoned. BOTTOM LINE: An ok place to grab some grub in the BSL area, but certainly not the best.

We called ahead to make a reservation and they were very nice and accommodating on the phone. The service was very good and our waitress was very genuine and sweet. The food sucked. They brought out a paper bagged french loaf that was a nice touch. Down hill from there. Seared tuna special was really gross and not even close to sushi grade, it was overcooked and came with poor seaweed salad and wasabi. Pass. Veal picatta. Pass. Dry, 4 capers, serious lack of flavor. Not even warm when it came out. Does Sysco sell a veal picatta? I don't know but of they did it would probably taste like this garbage.

Read the reviews and got a few recommendations from the locals. As a local panhandle seafood lover and fisherman I say the Mahi Mahi was a McMahi at a Ruth Chris price. Filet with pasta "special" was not so special. I let the server know in which she advised the manager whom would not even come to the table... I was offered a free dessert. I bet it was Sams cheesecake.

Last visit they had some excellent raw oysters. I'm a sucker for great oysters. That is not the draw for me though. What I love, love, love here is a seafood pasta dish. It is creamy, has shrimp, crabmeat, and I'm sure is not healthy for me. It is comfort food to this Gulf Coast girl all the way to my bones. It makes me feel like everything in life is just as it should be. If a dinner can do that then it is definitely five stars in my book.

Good food (even the gumbo-- so many good restaurants get it wrong), friendly staff, nice decor, and fair prices. Enough said.

I had the fried soft shell crabs, and bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer. It was a good, filling meal. We went for a work dinner, and everyone left happy, I'd definitely recommend it.

Food was great along with the service. A female was visiting all the tables and I would imagine she was one of the owners. They do a great job with atmosphere and presentation. Warm bread was great. The 5 of us ate 3 loaves with our meals. Portion sizes were large. Prices are on higher side, but reflect portions and quality.

Great Oysters on the half and the fish tacos weren't bad. Tacos were done in a non-pacific way: cajun style with remoulade sauce.

The food is consistently good, prices are descent, and the atmosphere is much more sophisticated than any other restaurant I have found in Waveland, MS

Great dinner! Absolutely no complaints. We ordered a bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer with a spicy honey glaze that is not on the menu and I wanted to lick the plate clean. It was grilled and cooked perfectly. I ordered the trout meunière and had eaten about half of it when the server brought me another piece of fish because the manager thought my first piece was too small. I thought my serving size was fine but was very appreciative of the extra fish. It was grilled to perfection. The bread and butter that accompanied the meal was very fresh and tasty. We also ordered a mahi special that had a crab cake. The crab cake was bigger than you get at most places and was mainly crab, it was not full of breading like most places.

When we entered this restaurant we were really were really hopeful. The chalkboard specials looked excellent... then we got the menu.. and the selections were abound with what looked like an awesome menu. :) that said.. this is reality. Wife ordered the bisque. She said it was ok.. but a bit "light". I guess she's used to a real heavy bisque. This one was more of a very light claim chowder consistancy. Not horrible.. but.. not great. We had Crab claws for an app. We really wanted sauteed .. but we weren't asked how we wanted it cooked and were delivered "fried".. Not a fan of the fried.. there was just no taste to it.. I had the fish tacos. Everywhere I go I look and see if someone has fish taco's and of course try them if they are available. These fish taco's looked more like fish quesadilla's. It was also pretty plain.. no spices really. again very plain. The service here was good. and the decor was a perfect niche. The prices are high and quite frankly.. for what we ordered... the quality was average at best. If passed through Waveland again.. I doubt we would try here again. There are a couple of other seafood joints around that area.. I'd be willing to try somewhere else first.

Found this cool cozy place on a road trip to NOLA. I can confidently say this is the best seafood gumbo I have ever had.

This was one of the best dinners I've had in a long time! My group was visiting from out of town. The service was awesome, Sean really took care of us and made us feel right at home. He recommended many dishes to us and they were all amazing. Jacks trout dish was my personal favorite. If you're in the area, don't miss it!

Our group of 8 was in town on our road trip visit from San Francisco. We found West End on Yelp and decided to give it a shot because of the positive reviews. We were not disappointed to say the least! We shared a number of dishes and everything was very tasty. The Mahi Mahi and Jax pasta with trout and blackened shrimp were a real standout for me and my girlfriend. One of the best parts of our meal was our was our server, Sean. He was very attentive, new ALL the dishes on the menu and made excellent recommendations. We left very happy. I'd highly recommend West End for upscale / casual dining and excellent food.

Pleasantly surprised with this little restaurant in Waveland. On a business trip in the area and was waiting for a rocket engine test at Stennis Space Center and decided to try West End. Fantastic food. I had a dozen oysters as an appetizer. The oysters were large and salty...very nice. My main course was the Triple Tail that was cooked to perfection. The prices were good and the service was great.

I'm never really satisfied when I leave here. My food is usually not warm enough or the texture is off... Limp sweet potato fries. Hard, grilled asparagus. Flavorless hollandaise... However, they do have interesting cocktails. I don't drink cocktails but when I'm here with my girlfriends we each usually end up getting a different drink and test one another's.

The staff at West End is super friendly. Their food offerings range from seafood to steaks to the chicken waldorf salad croissants. Their veal parmesan is absolutely mouth watering. It's prepared to order (if you listen closely, you can hear the kitchen pounding it out), then paneed and topped with cheese and a brown gravy. It is served with angel hair pasta topped with a marinara sauce and comes with the customary hot french bread loaf with butter. Their signature drink, the West End Sunset is perfect to quench your thirst on a hot summer day. They pack a punch though, so embibe carefully. The gumbo is always a favorite. It's a family recipe that is well known around the area, and if you're lucky you can catch the soup of the day when it's the mock turtle soup. They sustitute filet (so tender it melts in your mouth) tips for the turtle, but the flavoring is perfect. There are plenty of choices for the non-seafood eater also, which is a nice option in a coastal town. The ceasar salad dressing is the best I've ever had. It's a great place to go hang out with friends in a casual, friendly atmosphere.

Drove from Mobile, AL to West End in Waveland, MS for lunch upon recommendation from a friend who grew up there. Easy to find on Hwy. 90. Restaurant is small, attractive (both inside and outside in the dining courtyard), and has a casual atmosphere. The appetizer crab cakes were the best we've ever eaten - lots of crab, fresh green onion, and very little (if any) binder filler - delish! A complimentary loaf of warm French bread (served in a brown paper bread bag) with butter were served with the appetizer. Our entrees were the trout meuniere and shrimp/crawfish pasta. The fresh trout was delicately pan fried and served over a bed of angel hair pasta - not greasy like some meuniere I've had. It was quite tasty and light. It came with a side of fresh sauteed squash. The penne pasta in a Creole cream sauce included shrimp, crawfish tails, and andouille sausage - it was good, but not spectacular. We ordered a side of creamed spinach and it was divine - fresh spinach in a light butter/cream sauce with a hint of nutmeg and a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. Would eat here again!
