Fabulous restaurant, great service excellent food. Traveling through, visiting Vicksburg Military National Park, asked for recommendation of place to eat. Rusty was recommended, excellent recommendation. Best Green Fried Tomatoes ever. Fried crispy, topped with white crabmeat sauce. Wished had bread to "sop" remains. Best seafood gumbo with everything in it, even better that lower Louisiana gumbo. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Vicksburg. BTW, no river view on ground floor of restaurant, but food was so good, who had time to look for River.

If they tell you the wait will be an hour you better expect to wait an hour. The food was good service was okay for being a busy Saturday night. Crab cake appetizer was OMG good. The meal was wonderful except for the artichoke dip as the chips were stale. The blackened chicken was good it was served with a salad and a choice of a side I chose fries. They are seasoned well and they go great with the chicken. Be sure to save some room for their wonderful desserts. I could make a meal on these deserts alone. The bottom line if you want good food in Vicksburg, Rusty's has it.

Our server was very friendly. I got the pineapple chicken with green beans and grits and it all tasted good but nothing spectacular. My nephew ordered shrimp and fries and it was about $25 which I think was way overpriced. I was expecting a huge pile of shrimp but it was a very modest amount for the money. The food tasted good but I think it was too expensive. Maybe the fact I'm from Chicago my standards are a little different. We have a lot of restaurants with good food so the pricing is more competitive. That's the only thing I can think of to justify the price. Probably won't be back because the prices don't match up to the portion size or quality. I brought a grill down with me and I can cook up a better meal for less than half the cost. I'm on a smaller budget since I'm down here for 5 weeks on business.

Me and my two Swedish friends on a road trip stopped by at this place, recommended by The lonely planet, after our Vicksburg National War tour. At the first salad & bread I noticed something was up. The butter was sweeted and the bread soft as linen. My off the menu jumbo scallops wrapped in bacon was indeed heavenly. Very well worth the price. The bread pudding as dessert was good, the coffee too weak for my taste. Would visit again. The service was good, but they lacked the very well needed IPA

We've stopped here twice traveling from TX to FL. Love love love it! First the house wine, Redwood Creek has become a staple at our house. The fried green tomatoes are fabulous! I've thought about them since we planned the trip knowing we would plan the drive around dinner at Rusty's. I'm very picky about my Gumbo and Rusty's didn't disappoint. If in question ask you server for a sample. Had to get the bread pudding to go since we were so full. It was good... Not the best I've had but certainly good. We will be back next trip I feel certain.

Hailing from Mississippi originally, I am elated to write about a great restaurant in the South! Rusty's truly is a cut above average for the small town of Vicksburg, MS. It has a great menu, full bar, and a selection of food not usually seen in Vicksburg. My family and I had no problem being seating right away on a Saturday evening and my waitress, Ms. Wynette, was extremely attentive and sweet! I ordered the fried crab claws, stuffed soft shell blue crab, and a glass of Merlot. The fried crab claws were amazing!!! They were fried perfectly and the seasoning was just right! My main dish was also excellent! The soft shell blue crab was stuffed with crab cake! I love when I can come back home and find a spot that reminds me of NYC but with Southern Hospitality, good 'folks' to eat with, and 'good ole Southern' football playing (MSU vs Ole Miss game was on). Great food, great ambiance, and great experience. It is on the pricey side for Vicksburg, MS but worth the visit.

We used yelp to find interesting local places on our cross country drive across America. It was raining cats and dogs when we crossed into Mississippi over the Mississippi. We Californians aren't used to that. This place seemed great. We were able to park on the street and walked a couple blocks. Once inside we saw that it was comfortable and little rustic. It was packed,a sign that it must be good. We started with fried green tomatoes with hollandaise sauce and lump crab meat. What???? Followed that up with crab cakes. Amazing. So glad we stopped by.

Food was very good, not excellent or outstanding. I had the fried seafood platter with shrimp and grouper and onion rings. The shrimp was fantastic. The grouper was soggy, and the onion rings were substandard. If I had ordered the fried shrimp plate with fries, I suspect my review would be 5 stars! Every restaurant has some things it does better than others, and I simply figured that out too late. Service was excellent, except the server did not steer me to the better seafood. Being from New Orleans, and having worked as a cook in several restaurants, I understand seafood. This is a good place, and I probably will return. My friend ate the special and loved it.

There were quite a few options for dinner, while driving cross country we knew e were staying in Vicksburg so we did a search for local flavor, this came up with some positive feedback. We got there and it was empty within 20 minutes it was filed and a wait line outside. The food was great. I would recommend he crab cakes. Now everyone seemed to get better service then we did. We had to keep tracking her down for things like drink refills and condiments. She didn't really check in us. We asked about any information about the town and or restaurant and she didn't offer info told is pictures were in the wall. But the food out weighed our service.

This seems like the gem of Vicksburg. The food was fantastic and we had superb service. I wish that I could have eaten here more than once to give it a better review but from my only visit they have it going on. If you visit Vicksburg you need to eat here.

We stop here every year on our way to Destin.. And every year it's great. The fried green tomatoes are epic...and I hate tomatoes! The seafood dishes are great and lemme tell Ya....the Hawaiian chicken is the best I've ever had. Sit in the bar and let Robin take care of you...you will be a happy camper!

BLUF: Good food. I'd go back in a heartbeat. I dont know vicksburg very well but this place is really popular and pretty busy because of it. Menu looked good; sandwiches and seafood. I got the reuben (special) and it was fantastic. I love reubens and they make a good one. Average sized. Sweet potato fries were pretty good but store bought. Good service; split the checks for a large party with no problems.

I didn't really like Rusty's. It seemed as if everyone in town was here. And there was a wait, which was ok since we headed to the bar to wait. I ordered a Bloody Mary (of course!) and that was really good. I also don't usually mind waiting for a table on a weekend...sometimes you have to do what you have to do. BUT. Once we were seated all went downhill. Like I mentioned before, everyone and their grandmother was here this night. Service was incredibly slow, which was kind of expected, but our waitress walked by several times without even glancing in our direction. I had to physically stand up to wave her down for several of the issues we had. We were seated, had our drinks from the bar brought to us by the bartender (not our waitress) and proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait some more. Finally our waitress shows up and asks for our appetizer order. We had been sitting there for so long we already knew what we wanted as far as apps went and our main dish. Fearing she would disappear again we place the app order and our main dish order right away. That was a mistake. What seemed like forever we waited some more. Someone comes out with our appetizers AND main course and puts it on the table. I really hate when that happens but we were so hungry at that point we just started eating and didn't complain. The food was expensive and so not worth the price or the wait. Also, when the bill was presented we had been charged double for drinks that we hadn't had. I was pretty disappointed with Rusty's and probably wouldn't return.

Would highly recommend this place if visiting Vicksburg! We also had the fried green tomatoes that every was raving about and it's all true. So yummy! Service was great and the seafood was amazing. I would recommend the blackened mahi mahi or blackened scallops. We were on a southern food tour, and they served the best cheese grits I had the entire trip.

  • S. S.

Great place! I had a fresh, crispy mixed green salad, a cup of thick and tasty gumbo, the soft shell crab Po Boy with a baked potato, and their own bread pudding with Makers Mark whiskey sauce which were also very good.

A good meal, good location, nice ambiance. Solid but not exceptional. We enjoyed the meal but have had much better. We had fried green tomatoes, house salad, and blackened redfish. The redfish was overdone and dry. The fried tomatoes had too much breading and we couldn't taste much of the tomatoes. The wait staff was very attentive and the restaurant was busy the whole time we were there with a line continuously growing, so maybe we just had the wrong menu items. For our money, the food didn't justify the price.

Had dinner at Rusty's when I was in town for business. I chose to sit at the bar as I was by myself and the restaurant was full and I would have needed to wait for a table. The Pecan Ale was refreshing and went well with the food and southern atmosphere. The waitress was very kind and saved me from ordering way more food than I needed. I opted instead for the fried green tomatoes and a bowl of gumbo. the fried green tomatoes were so good and topped with a creamy soft shelled crab sauce. The best I have ever had. I had never had gumbo before and it was good but not what I expected (not sure what I expected). The guy next to me had the bacon wrapped scallops and that is what I will have next time I am in town. it looked and smelled amazing. Great place with friendly, knowledgeable staff, great atmosphere and phenomenal food and drinks. Will make this a must every time I am in town.

Rusty's Riverfront Grill is one of the most popular restaurants in Vicksburg. I think that popularity lead to my less than stellar experience. When I pulled up to Rusty's around 6:30 I knew there was going to be a wait. Parking was at a premium, and the restaurant was packed. After carefully parking on a hill (in a spot that was probably not a spot), I headed in. The host advised that the wait would be 30 minutes or so and handed over one of those vibrating flashy things. I have no idea what it should be called, but those things are great. Since I had no desire to sit around looking sad like most of the people waiting, I headed to the bar. The bar, like the restaurant, was packed. The bartender did do a good job of making sure my beer was replenished and was very friendly, but she was obviously overworked. Once the vibraty thingy flashed, I headed back to the host stand. On the way to the table I had a good chance to look around. I'm not sure of that night was typical, but the place was filled wall to wall with people. I would guess that there were at least twice as many people waiting as there were seats in the restaurant. Once seated it took a long time for the server to acknowledge my table. That trend continued throughout the meal. I couldn't tell if she had way too many tables or if she was just a poor server, but everything took far too long. Because the restaurant had grill in its name, and on the recommendation of the server, I decided on a ribeye for my entrée. I may have had better luck with a seafood dish as the ribeye was overcooked and tougher than I expected. My whole experience left me feeling rather disappointed. To make matters worse, the server overcharged me for drinks I had already bought at the bar. When I pointed it out to her she reversed the charge, but it was just one more thing to make an already poor experience worse.

Last night we stopped at Vicksburg and consulted Yelp for a place to eat. We chose Rusty's and were so glad we did. Our server was welcoming and personable, and recommended the fried green tomatoes with a crab sauce. WONDERFUL! Do not miss. Actually it could be a meal. We also had the fried shrimp which were the real deal...butterflied and battered and nothing frozen about them. They came with a salad and scrumptious little rolls that were also almost certainly housemade. And not to forget the cocktail sauce which was unique... I'll probably spend the rest of my life trying to duplicate it. No room for dessert, but they looked so nice in the case...maybe next time! Do yourself a favor and go to Rusty's!!

The fried green tomatoes were the best I've had and the Grilled Hawaiian Chicken Salad was large and tasty with a generous portion of chicken. No wait time to be seated and our server was excellent. Will return on our next trip to Vicksburg.

Not quite as fancy or as quality as the price of their filet-mignon would suggest, but a pretty good little restaurant. The fried asparagus was really good. My kid's sirloin & my filet mignon were way raw for our medium-rare request, but the food wasn't awful. Their menu choices are satisfying the service is pleasant. It can get very busy on a weeknight, with 30 minute waits or more. Good location, decent patio & friendly atmosphere. Delicious looking desserts, though I passed on dessert this time 'round.

It was ok. Maybe I was expecting more due to the reviews. Service was good and the food was hot. I had the grouper sandwich, wife had grilled shrimp.

We had the cheeseburger and the grouper salad. both were very good! After our meal we had the Mississippi mud pie!!! wow what an amazing dessert!

Love is their fried green tomatoes accompanied by their creamy crab sauce. What a way to start out a meal. The salad was okay... Nothing to cheer on about. But man they outdo themselves with their cocktail sauce served with crab cakes and their fresh yummy shrimp. :). The cocktail sauce is the best I've ever had. I don't now if they use a salsa as their base rather than ketchup but it is greatness. I ordered a medium rare filet with the same creamy crab sauce. The meat was fork tender and was cooked perfectly. This was over the top delicious. The scallops were very under whelming, they were just bigger than a green pea. Don't waste your money on these. The service was great and the food was great. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The Fried Green Tomato appetizer was the best I've had anywhere. I also had the grilled oyster, scallops (smaller than I anticipated) and blackend grouper. Was fantastic. Got there a little after 5:00pm and was immediately seated. Now we have two favorite places in Vicksburg. Here and Walnut Hill.

We got takeout our first night here. The manager was super friendly and Cricket our yorkie is welcome on their patio any time:) I had blackened shrimp with rice which came with smashed potatoes and green beans. Yum yum. We'll eat here several times I"m sure since there are about a dozen other items I want to try. Don't miss it!

Wynette was our server, we ordered her recommendations & were glad we did! The calamari was exceptionally good, especially with Louisiana Tiger sauce. The fried green tomato with creamy lump crab sauce was also delicious. My husband ordered the Imperial Soft Shell Crab. He said it was okay, I thought the sautéed onions overpowered it. Good fries, delicious gumbo. Yummy homemade key lime pie & bread pudding.

Food is great, been there several times and always enjoy it. However during lunch yesterday the service was a bit more behind than normal. Granted, it was exceptionally busy. This will not be our last time there. But it does make us want our visits to be fewer and further between.

Rusty's did not disappoint. They delivered on my seafood craving. Crab and then more crab. The bread for my crab Po'Boy was soft ($9.99 lunch special). It wasn't dry like they sometimes can be. I had the onion rings as a side. Those were not special. The crab claw appetizer made up for it. I didn't mind the $14.99 price because they were peeled and easy to eat. They were small but smaller crabs tend to be sweeter. Oh yes, I took bread pudding home. Very good and the bourbon sauce was on point. The portion is good for 2 people. The atmosphere was laid back and friendly. Our waitress was attentive and gave off that southern hospitality. The location is at the end of the Main Street. Which makes it good for walking off the food afterwards. Hopefully I'll get to visit Vicksburg again. When I do, I'll be eating here.

Great service and delicious, fresh seafood! Go for the two-item combo. I recommend the crab cake and scallops. Not too greasy, and prepared just right. For a healthy and appetizing side dish, go for the green beans! Key Lime pie is one of many homemade, mouthwatering desserts worthy of mention. It can get busy, even on a weekday, but with reservations, no additional wait. Best I had on a week visit to the area.

On the whole, this is a really nice place. I recently had broiled bone-in flounder and it was cooked and seasoned quite nicely. Where they could improve would be in two areas: 1. Finishing touches. Sour cream in a plastic squeeze tube such as you'd get at a Captain D's fast food drive through. Other examples of this type of approach. 2. They have Wi-Fi but selfishly keep it all to themselves. If your carrier is AT&T, you're going to be on and off of the network (mostly off). If you're in town working with the Corps of Engineers, chances are you have work you need to do in the evenings. "Rusty," I stayed for less time last night and I'll be going less in future years on this new contract with the Corps until this is rectified. If you need help, there are plenty of people in town who can assist you with setting up a guest network that will not compromise the security of your internal assets. This is considered a baseline offering these days - esp if your physical address doesn't site well with any or all of the major cell carriers. Thank you.

Mom and I were 1/3 into our 15 hour road trip to Clarksville, TN when we decided to stop for the night in historic Vicksburg. Rusty's was perfect for a big meal after being on the road. It's a place where you can order most styles of food: steak, chicken, pasta, seafood. From the looks of it, Rusty's specialty is seafood. The list of specials on the chalkboard were all seafood appetizers and entrees. Food: I ordered one of the specials, blackened snapper with green beans. It was awesome. Well cooked, flaky fillet with balanced seasoning and fresh green beans. It was enough to happily feed 2 people, but after a long drive, I packed it away with a couple glasses of wine. I love that is was filling and flavorful without being loaded with fat. It is hard to eat healthily while on the road. Booze: The beer selection is very limited, however, I'm spoiled by big city selections and craft brewing towns. Rusty's could improve by broadening their beer selection to include regional craft brewers. Service: The service overall was fine. I called ahead of time to inquire about the beer and liquor policy to determine if Rusty's was a BYOB establishment. Vicksburg must not have a lot of BYOB establishments because the hostess seemed a bit put-off by the question. The hostess was friendly upon arrival and seated us with a smile. Another off-putting moment occurred after reading through the limited beer selection. After ordering a glass of the house red, I asked our waitress if she could recommend any places nearby with a good beer selection. Her jaw dropped as though I had committed the worst sin. She was quite judgmental and rude in her response. Can't a girl have a drink after a long day? I'd like to not feel shamed for choosing to have a glass of wine or a beer and to expect a reasonable selection. While I didn't appreciate her behavior, I can't hold one waitresses poor social skills against an overall quality restaurant. Overall, Rusty's was great. It is a cute little riverfront restaurant that the locals flock to even on a Tuesday night.

Recently spent 3 days in Vicksburg while on vacation. The last night there we found Rusty's. There was a little wait as this seemed to be "the place to eat." The service was outstanding but the food was even better! We ate the Fried Green Tomatoes and Gator Bites as appetizers! Delish! Also had fried shrimp, crab cakes and fried grouper. I must say this is overall the best meal I have had in quite some time. A little pricey but I didn't mind at all because I enjoyed it SO much. Wish we had found it the first night instead of the last night. Hope to go back someday!

Stopped in only because my first choice was closed for a special engagement, but wow! Boy I'm glad they were. The food here was great! I don't eat seafood so I opted for the Hawaiian chicken with green beans. I was amazed by the amount of food that I was served for the price. 2 Huge chicken breasts with a very tasty soy/ginger sauce and 2 perfectly cooked pineapple rings. I was afraid that they would be overly salty and dripping in soy and they weren't. My friend had a huge bowl of gumbo which had a little bit of everything inside; chicken, shrimp, sausage and other types of seafood. I think this is one of their top sellers as every table around us had bowls and bowls of it being served. The desert case has some really amazing looking deserts but I was too full to to try them. The strawberry pie struck my eye (I will have to go back and try it) and their brownie desert...2 HUGE brownies with marshmallow in between. It is a little bit noisy so don't expect a quiet romantic setting but they are accommodating for seating larger parties.

My wife claims this is the best steak she's ever had....and that's compared to places like Del Frisco in Dallas. I had the tuna ceaser salad which was excellent. Rusty was in the kitchen making sure everything meets their standards of quality and taste. I will return!

Eh...we went at lunch time last week, and it was busy, but there was no real wait. My husband and I got the blackened chicken sandwich. It was just okay, the bun fell apart immediately and I had to eat it with a knife and fork. Nothing special about it and it didn't seem to have much flavor or was missing condiments? I had a sweet potato with it and liked that better. Totally overpriced for what we were served.

In town to visit the Vicksburg Natl Park and looked for a place for a drink and dinner. We picked Rusty's and were very disappointed. We had the fried pickles appetizer and they were ok, a little greasy, but what you would expect from fried pickles. I ordered the crab cakes and a small salad. There was crab in the cakes, but generally mostly filler and I picked through them for the meat. The hot rolls were good as was my small salad and the beer was cold. My wife had the "Scallops",not sure what they were, but we each had one bite and it was very fishy and certainly was a 1 on a 1-10 scale. They came with grits and while I don't eat grits, but my wife does and she gave them a 1or 2 out of 10. They did remove the "Scallops" from the bill, but generally disappointed with the food. Service was fine. Very rare for us to leave a bad review, but just had to on this one.

Everything I go to Rusty' the food is great. I love the fried green tomatoes with crabmeat hollandaise sauce followed by the stuffed flounder with a side of green beans and a baked sweet potato. The severing staff is always friendly and they keep your tea class full. One of the best restaurants in Vicksburg.

Everyone in town said this was the place to go to eat. And it seemed like everyone in town was there that night. The fried green tomatoes were a tasteful and filling atmosphere. Everything else was pretty good as well, not spectacular. One disappointment I have here and in many places is the presence of TVs everywhere. It would be nice to just enjoy a meal and conversation without having to watch TV or check on a sport score for an hour or so. This did not ruin my experience, just making commentary.

Had a 36 hour visit to Vicksburg, which was 12 hours too long. It is a very sleepy little town. The battlefield is very interesting, especially the gunboat. Downtown is pleasant but not much to do. Rustys was busy at lunch time and had short wait The Oyster Po Boy was perfect. Came back at night for a decadent desert.

ONE word: YUM! We were on a three day adventure in Vicksburg and ate at Rusty's four times! The Coconut shrimp is the best I've ever had - it's not always on the menu (they run it a lot on their specials) so you have to ask for it. My husband had the grouper sandwich and it was great at well. Service and atmosphere is very nice. Enjoy!

My first visit to Vicksburg today will probably be my last, because there are a lot of other places I want to see, but today was Vicksburg, and a late lunch at Rusty's. We had been to the railroad etc. museum and driving toward The Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum, we spied the Riverfront Grill. It looked like a good place to eat, and we weren't disappointed. We had a reasonably short wait - about 10 minutes - and our server was prompt. I had an oyster po'boy, which came with about five oysters, four of which were multiple-bite size. I opted for the onion rings and I was glad I did. The oysters were tasty and well-prepared. Hubby had the cheeseburger and he said it was very good. He opted for the fries, and was incredibly disappointed. A place like this should be cutting their own fries rather than ordering the stringy coated fries that they were serving. I had a piece of key lime pie and the pie filling itself was good; my only gripe is that key lime pie doesn't call for a meringue on it, just a dollop of whipped cream is sufficient. Not a bad experience; our server was very good and accommodating; the food was very good, and the total bill of under $30 was a pleasant surprise. If I have occasion to go back to Vicksburg, I'll have some of their fried green tomatoes.

We stopped here while passing through. I had eaten here four years ago and wanted to bring my spouse. The fried green tomatoes with sauce and crab meat were unusual and tasty, really a meal in and of themselves. Spouse DTG had blackened and fried catfish. He loved the blackened catfish and enjoyed the fried catfish. I had bay scallops which were OK. The house salad was interesting and included a picket okra. I LIKE this part of Vicksburg.

Downtown Vicksburg doesnt have much to recommend it, but Rustys is holding its own against the downward spiral of what must have once been a vibrant bustling downtown. Ate here around 5pm on a Thursday. Excellent service. All 3 of us had fish and were extremely pleased with the meal. Heartily recommend this restaurant if you are looking for local flavor and a solid meal!

This popular place has nice service and good food. I had the crab cake salad, which was good, and my friend had a combo of fried oysters and shrimp that she raved about. The little rolls they served before dinner were excellent, as was the salad that came with the entree. This place can get packed -- we just missed a tour busload as we were leaving. The historic downtown location is neat, too.

I came here back in 2005. I don't recall I found this place since it was my pre-yelp days. Although this was over 4 years ago, it's memorable because it's the first time I experienced true authentic Southern food and also soft-shell crab po'boy! Just the fact that it was soft-shell crab made it delicious, but the sandwich was really good. Fried to perfection, not dry, overall good taste. Fries were good. I really enjoyed the cheesy grits. Sharp flavor, and had that "comfort" feeling. My dad had the blackened chicken. It was pretty flavorful. I would definitely come back if I ever did come back to Vicksburg!

Normally Rusty's is great: great service, food, and environment. However, tonight we had a server named "Breeze." DO NOT let this server care for you. We got there ~5:22pm, placed our order approximately 10 minutes later, but "Breeze" didn't actually put our order into the kitchen for another 30 minutes (the kitchen ticket said 5:58pm). No idea why, we didn't get an explanation. We had somewhere to be at 6:30pm and had to rush out of there as soon as we got our food. I left no tip for her. VERY POOR service tonight. I hope this was a fluke.

It was a long day in an unfamiliar place.... and all I wanted was a good dinner. I was in the hotel elevator, on my way out to a undisclosed chain restaurant. I do try to steer clear of chains, but I was just hungry and didn't feel like looking around. Luck intervened when I bumped into a husky gentleman in the lift. He stated that he was on his way out to Rusty's, and that it was a pretty good place. I figured he knew what he was talking about. Downtown Vicksburg is just plain quiet.... and one of the only places that shows any signs of life is Rusty's. There was a pretty good crowd inside, and I had a good feeling straight away. I had the fried green tomatoes, which turn out to be covered pretty thoroughly on here already! One note: Don't order these unless you have someone to share them with. Big portion. After that, I had the shrimp po boy with onion rings. The po boy was just okay. The shrimp was breaded almost to beyond recognition, and the roll was just way too much bread. It wasn't bad.... it just has some room for improvement. Then there was the onion rings.... I have a love/hate relationship with the noble onion ring. They are a tasty alternative to the bandwagon french fries, but they come with their own challenges. 1. The breading usually falls right off as soon as you take a bite. 2. As your are taking that first bite, sorrily looking at all the breading fall to your plate, it becomes impossible to bite through the onion ring and you (against your will) pull the entire onion out of what is left of the breading. It just all becomes disappointing. It makes you not even want to try.... honestly. But sometimes.... sometimes.... Sometimes a batch of onion rings comes along that restores your faith in the side item. Rusty's is one such place that produces rings that good. The breading was perfect. The onions were perfectly tender, allowing for an easy experience biting through. They were perfect. And to think I almost ordered french fries. The service was decent.... as was the price. All in all, a pretty solid meal. Minus the fifth star for the shrimp po boy. Recommend!!

Found this immaculate spot while visiting Vicksburg. Although the reviews were good, we were realistic in our expectations. Nice place, great staff, and awesome food! We arrived to a pretty full dining area, and the gal smiled and lead us right to a table tucked just outside the window to the kitchen. Not only was it entertaining but allowed us to see finished plates of beautiful food before choosing our lunch selections from the extensive menu. My husband had the oyster po-boy with cheese grits chased by a very cold beer. I opted for the shrimp po-boy with onion rings - both choices were amazing - fresh rolls, well cooked fish and excellent accompaniments. Would recommend this for anyone wanting not only a great experience but awesome food. Cheers

The last couple of times I have been to Rusty's the food has not been as good as it use to be. The prices are too high for mediocre food. I don't think I will go back anytime soon.

Fantastic place to eat in Vicksburg. Great for Lunch or Dinner. Known for their seafood, they also offer a great Fillet. If you go for dinner I suggest trying one of the specials offered that night. All the sides are plentiful and very well done. Green beans are the best I have ever eaten. For lunch the Po-Boys are all fantastic. I suggest the grouper Po-Boy. It is tough to go wrong. The only knock on this place is that there can be a long wait and it is very loud on crowded nights. Since they have expanded it has gotten quieter but is still very noisy on a busy night. As for the wait, seating area for waiting is plentiful and drinks are offered. Their is a bar area that is a great place to spend your wait. Wine and drink selection is plentiful and there is a small patio with covered tables outside. If you come to Vicksburg I highly recommend you stop by Rusty's.

We arrived on a very busy Friday night and were told the wait would be approximately 25-30 minutes. No problem, my husband & I went to the bar to order a drink and wait. The place was jumping and there was a large party that had arrived just prior to us so we figured a drink would be the right start to this evening. Before we were able to get our drinks (glass of wine & draft beer), our table was ready! Like in 5 minutes. It was outstanding. Underpromised, over delivered. My husband stayed at the bar taking care of the financials and I sat down. This is truly a relaxed, very casual and loud atmosphere. There was patio seating, but it was just too warm for that so we sat inside. They had TVs on that were muted so that a sportsfan could follow along to a sporting game. I didn't really pay much more attention to them than just acknowledging they were there. We started out with the alligator cajun bites (or something like that), basically, deep fried bites of alligator tails mixed with tabasco. Pretty good and not too hot. We both tried the Blackend Redfish, with steamed asparagus and onion rings. We don't ordinarily mix a fine dish with such a casual side order as onion rings, but had heard good things about them. They are tasty and probably do go just fine with a burger. The fish was DELISH! It was covered with a crawfish sauce that was quite good and the tails were plentiful. Unfortunately, the asparagus was cooked a bit too long. A bit on the mushy/chewy side. Not a very pleasant experience and I don't recommend this simply b/c it is an additional $2.00. My husband was satisfied with his, but also said it was soft. We both enjoy our veggies to be on the crunchy side. The best part of the evening and why I give Rusty's 4-stars and not just 3, is because of the friendly and courteous wait staff. Specifically our waitress, Heidi. She was very attentive, offered to comp the asparagus and ensured our water glasses were also full. She's an absolute delight. If you can, ask for Heidi, she's got an engaging smile.

Awesome blackened grouper and the seafood pasta was soooo good. Will come back if I am ever in Vicksburg again.

We ate here today after hearing good things about it over the last couple days. I had the grouper sandwich with onion rings and coconut cream pie. The service was excellent and I could tell this place is very popular as it filled up quickly after we arrived. The onion rings were also very good. The grouper was overcooked however. The meat had the consistency of baked chicken breast and was a bit chewy. The coconut cream pie was good, very rich and creamy, a bit too rich for my taste but good.

When eating food that is truly, madly, deeply tasty and wonderful, I often get the sensation that I am levitating a few feet off my chair. The fried green tomatoes and coconut cream pie I had at Rusty's sent me rocketing off beyond the stratosphere and into a wonderful alternate universe where everything was purple and little horned demons tickled me with the softest of feathers. I assure you, dear reader, that I am not exaggerating. The fried green tomatoes have a slight pickly kick underneath their lightly-spiced batter - that alone would make them special enough - but what really makes this dish is the sauce. Buttery, creamy, and liberally sprinkled with the sweetest crab meat, this is an appetizer that appetizes. The coconut cream pie is easily the best I've ever had. The most deliciously sweet and creamy and un-bland coconut cream in the world is served under a healthy dollop of homemade whipped cream on a perfect crumbly crust. Each pie is cut into only six slices, and I would recommend that those with small appetites share with a friend. A good friend. A friend who won't challenge you to fisticuffs over the last sweet bite. The oyster po'boy I ordered wasn't quite as transcendent, but it did serve as a pleasant break in my food high. The oysters were soft and juicy - not the livery little rubber bits I've come to expect and even kinda like, and I'm glad to have been enlightened. The sandwich was a little dry, but not to worry - our friendly and pleasantly chatty waitress arrived with samples of each homemade sauce offered at Rusty's. Comeback dressing, tartar, and cocktail sauce, each a worthy accompaniment to a wonderful sandwich.

Vicksburg, Mississippi? What? WHY?!?! Seriously? Well... apart from its rich historical values (and is the hometown of the original bottlers for Coca-Cola--now the The Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum) I wasn't quite sure what I was going to get out of my visit to Vicksburg Mississippi. Upon arriving I was a little shocked (not in a very good way) by what I saw in the so-called downtown Vicksburg, which is "nothing". As my friend and I were driving around in town I noticed that most of the stores were either empty or not operating, and I thought our only options for dinner were chained-fast-food restaurants. However, my friend was well prepared, he did his homework before our trip and lucky for me he found Rusty's. When we arrived at the restaurant around 8.30p for dinner the place was almost full, and the exuberant ambiance immediately made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The servers were quite friendly and we were seated promptly and offered water and the drinks we ordered. Below are the food we had and my thoughts on them: (1) Fried Cornmeal battered Green Tomatoes w/ Crawfish Cream Sauce: This is probably one of the most appetizing appetizers I have ever had. The green tomatoes tasted nothing like regular tomatoes, it was firm, juicy not quite sweet nor was it too sour--you gotta try it to know what i am talking about. The cornmeal batter gave sliced green tomatoes an amazing aroma and delicious crunch. All that above, topped with the crawfish cream sauce...the dish might be common for a southerner but I thought it was absolutely divine. (2) Blackened Cajon Catfish topped with crawfish sauce: I had this fish for entree and it was absolutely delicious. As you can probably tell already, the fish was loaded with spice and flavor and it was done so perfectly with just enough kick but I was still able to enjoy the freshness and sweetness of the fish itself. The crawfish sauce in this dish is slightly different from the previous dish but it is just as amazing as the previous one, and it was the perfect topping to accompany the blackened grilled fish. I had a side of asparagus with my fish and I think it was the perfect combination. The only thing about this place that I didn't quite like was that they didn't time the dishes well. When I was working on my salad they brought the fried green tomatoes over and before I had time to finish either one of those, they put down my entree already. So I end up working on all the dishes simultaneously and it was a little messy. I personally preferred to be more organized when I eat but other than that I had a good time at Rusty's.

Was in town on business, and went with a colleague to Rusty's. I had the house salad and the grouper sandwich. The salad was crisp and had some great ingredients, including pickled okra and egg. I had the grouper broiled, and it was kick-ass. Best fish sandwich I've had in ages. And all for $15! What a deal, and great food to boot.

While working in Vicksburg, this was a regular dining spot for me. The Fried Crab Claws are so delish. You cant go wrong with anything on their menu.

Good atmosphere and good food! Went on a Friday night and only had to wait 30 minutes (not bad for the quality of the food). Side salad was great and even came with egg. Blackened grouper sandwich was great and a nice alternative to getting the grouper entree as the sandwich comes with a large serving. Sea food pasta was good as well.

Address on Yelp is wrong. Actual address is 901 Washington. Food good but not great. Food fairly expensive for the quality you get. No view of river.

I noticed this place had good reviews online while I was researching for a nice place to eat while traveling in Vicksburg. Initially, the downtown location put us off a bit because the area seemed more than just a little shady. However, once you get in the restaurant it's completely different! It is much more upscale inside than the location or name give off. Everything on the menu was pricier than I am used to in Mobile but given that it had such good reviews we decided to try it. Supposedly they are known for their "Fried green tomatoes" so we had to try that. Now I don't even usually LIKE fried green tomatoes but these were delicious. They had some sort of sauce (I think w/ crab?) on top and it was sooo good. Definitely get those if you go! My dad ordered the steak and still raves that it was the best steak he has ever eaten! That says a lot, considering he is very picky! I ordered the grouper sandwich and while it was good, I wish I had ordered either a steak or different dish. This place is pricy and most things on the menu are $20+ but is a must-stop while in Vicksburg, even if only to try their famous fried green tomatoes :) Oh & their bread pudding is to die for.

Ate dinner here June 2010. Very good food. The fried asparagus appetizer was unusual and fantastic. Our fish was cooked perfectly, but the shrimp and grits was on the soupy side. It's a bit expensive there (dinner for 3 with 1 appetizer and only 1 soda was $83), but was mostly worth it.
