This is the second year in a row I have arranged to order boxed lunches for a school group of 100 traveling from Fort Worth, TX to Vicksburg for the week. My predecessor had good experiences and strongly suggested I try them. Sam always takes great care of us, and the order is always correct with clearly labeled boxes, especially for any allergies we have that year. He and his team divide everything by sandwich type, too, making my job (quickly and seamlessly feeding that many people during activities and presentations) a cinch.

Best. Mac & cheese. Ever. The end. Oh, and everything else was delicious!!!!! I found Newks on Yelp traveling thru Vicksburg. I had not ever heard of Newks so we went solely based on the excellent Yelp reviews. Thank you Yelpers!!!! It was excellent. The food is fresh, salad dressings are made on site. I had a huge delicious fresh yummy salad with the homemade sherry vinaigrette. Shared a cup of fire roasted tomato soup with my daughter, so good! I'm stuffed!!! And satisfied!! The service was friendly & fast.
I have been to Newk's several times and each time has been a great experience. Newk's gets PACKED during lunch. I'm talking lines out the door! Don't let that intimidate you. They keep the line moving, and from the time you are in line to the time you get your food is about 10-15 minutes max. Food: Excellent. I have had a few different pizza's and a few sandwiches and soups. Fresh and hot when they are delivered to your table.
The soups are excellent, especially the Lobster & Crab Bisque and the Crawfish Pepperjack. There are a lot of great salads. My favorite is the Greek. The pizzas are great, too. The Shrimp Pizza is outstanding. Of course, the tea is exceptional, and should be, considering the founders also created McAlister's Deli.

At first it was a little difficult figuring out where to enter but once we were in, we were greet warmly. The food was delicious. We started with the Fried Brie which was a little sweet for my taste but still great. I got the Black and Blue Burger with their chili. Excellent. The service was ok. Still a but slow and learning the restaurant and menu. Spectacular view from the inside. It was an extremely hot summer day and it was getting a bit warm even with the fans. Overall a great new and exciting restaurant!
We arrived and were told it was a 90 Minute wait, we ended up being seated within 40 minutes, always a pleasant surprise. We were pleasantly surprised to find some local brews on the menu. Food was heavy but good. Moon Pie bread pudding left much to be desired.
A true gem in the Vicksburg area. On a road trip for work and hungry for something authentic and local.. after a long search on Google stumbled on this place and didn't want to leave - yes it was THAT good. The location is killer - rooftop view overlooking the Mississippi River, a nice outdoor patio with sprawling umbrellas and a easily accessible bar. The indoor dining area is also well setup and plenty of space to move around. Now to the food .. prepare to start drooling! On this visit my friend and I had the Mac Nuggets, a crispy, lightly breaded and cooked perfectly golden with a creamy center of cheese and elbow noodles - the perfect amount of crunch and creaminess .. add in the Tomato Jam and you will be in mac n cheese heaven. For our entrees we had the chicken and waffles along with the fish/catch of the day special. The waffle as a good combination of a Belgian style and classic/american waffle batter - the end result was a light and fluffy, tasty waffle covered with a large, deep fried piece of chicken and a delicious, semi-spy syrup. My friend's fish was perfectly cooked, lightly blackened, covered with a sweet and spicy pineapple/bell pepper chutney. For dessert, which you do NOT want to skip, you will regret it, we had the peanut butter pie - a tough decision because everything look amazing, and the pie was no exception. It was creamy, the perfect balance of a rich and savory, creamy delicious peanut butter flavor. This is a place you'll want to put on your list to make several repeat visits to fully enjoy the menu .. I know I will be!

Tamale Place

Reviews:
These are the first Mississippi Tamales I've ever eaten and I was very happy with them. I was a little concerned when I saw that I could only order them by the half dozen or dozen but when I saw the size I was relieved that I could eat them all. They are about half the size of tamales on the west coast and the corn tastes different. Also they are moist all the way through. They only come in one flavor but I don't know if that's the standard here or not. Compared to west coast tamales, which tend to be slightly dry in the corn portion, these were delicious. Now I'm definitely going to try more tamale stands when I come back to Vicksburg.
Good tamales on a side-of-the-road joint. Cajuns run the place so they have boudin also that is good.
The best tamales! Moist and temperature hot every time! They tend to get spicy the more you eat. Saltine crackers, which can be also be purchased here, helps offset the spice. Make sure you go early because once they're gone, they're gone.

We stayed in the rear "slave quarters" of the house, and it was such a lovely stay. All details were attended to-- from ice prepped in the fridge, to the air turned down, and chocolates. And did I mention full-sized coffee pot? Staff was helpful and kind; and the tour of the house was informative and brief. The house is centrally located to downtown Vicksburg and its historic districts. Also, don't forget your swimsuits-- the pool is as drool-worthy as the brunch!
I have had three meals in this restaurant, two breakfasts with my stay, and a dinner my first night in Vicksburg. The breakfasts both days included cheesy grits, fruit, orange juice and coffee or tea. The first day's entree was a small bacon and egg biscuit with an extra slice of bacon, while the second day we had a breakfast casserole with a small biscuit on the side. The cheesy grits were new to this Oregon boy, and I came away a believer. For dinner, I splurged, having their "Surf and Turf": gulf shrimp and glazed beef filet medallions. It was delicious. I heartily recommend.Cafe Anchuca to anyone eating out in Vicksburg.
Sunday Brunch here was a real treat. It's in a lovely historic antebellum home and the setting could not have been more perfect. We were seated immediately even though they were pretty busy. I ordered Filet mignon Eggs Benedict* which came with a side of cheese grits and fresh fruit. This dish was divine. Just cooked to perfection and oh so delicious. Even though I was pretty stuffed, I decided to make a pig out of myself and had dessert. The trifle was delightful as well. I'd opt for the white chocolate bread pudding next time. In fact...anyone up for a road trip? Cafe Anchuca is a great choice for Sunday brunch. You'll be happy if you decide to go. *Filet Mignon Eggs Benedict-soft buttery biscuits with grilled onions topped with tender filet Mignon medallions topped with two poached eggs. Ok? Yummy, yummy, yummy.

Unbelievable amount of food for only $10. That includes choice of meat, 3 veggies, bread, salad, desert and drink. No tax. Vegetable plate (4 veggies) is only $7. Meats and veggies change daily. Choice of many different vegetables and deserts. Save room for an afternoon nap because you won't leave hungry.
If you are through here and don't stop for lunch, you missed it. $$ is great. Food is great. People are great. Thanks ladies! This truck driver will stop every chance I get. Room for a couple trucks to park, also a slot on EB get on ramp.
You like blue plates? Great. You'll love this place. This hole in the wall is open from the crack of dawn to 2 PM. Very friendly staff. Drop a $10 bill on the counter and you get to choose 1 meat, 3 veggies, a tea, and a dessert. Make sure it's a ten dollar bill though, because they only take cash. The veggie plates are $7. They have the same menu weekly menu that changes daily. In other words, every Monday has the same dish and so on... Check their Facebook to find what they are serving that day. If they know you, and recognize you, they give you two cornbreads instead of one. The meat loaf was good. Everything else would probably taste the same from the frozen food aisle. Again, CASH ONLY. I was directed to this little cafe by one of the staff from the Old Court House Museum just up the street. He told me the food was excellent, and he was spot on. The cafe is in an historic building and was probably a house at one time. You feel like you're stepping back in time when you open the door and walk in. The lunch menu was not very large. Everything on it was $10 even. This included tea or coffee. Soda was extra. I appreciate not being ripped off for a glass of iced tea as so many other places do these days for $2 plus. I had the daily special, which was blackened chicken. It was served with some kind of sweet corn relish, which complimented it very nicely. It also came with rice, green beans, and soup or salad. It was all very good ! The homemade pies looked delicious, but I'd already had enough. Service was friendly, informal, and just right. I highly recommend this cafe.
Great place for lunch- so good we wished they were open for dinner as well!
Wonderful little cafe full of southern charm and hospitality, and most importantly DELICIOUS FOOD! Must give it a try if you are in Vicksburg!

Martins is by far my favorite place to go any day of the week. The atmosphere is great! The beer garden is so fun and they always have a great selection of beer. I absolutely love that they do events at least once a week something is going on at Martin's. Definitely a place to hang out with friends and have a wonderful time!
BLUF: I'd go back; food was pretty good but beer selection was fantastic. I was suprised to see such a good beer selection. About 10 or so beers on tap and all were lesser known and high quality. We went there for work and it was a pre-ordered 3 course meal. Salad was the sad kind with iceburg lettuce and shredded carrots. No bueno. Entree was pretty good. Pork tenderloin stuffed with white grapes. Pretty good; high points for originally but average taste. Dessert was a bourbon bread putting. Pretty sure it got me drunk. Too heavy in the bourbon but pretty good. Food was average but beer was great. I'd definitely go back to see whatelse was on the menu.
I'm surprised to be the first to rate Martins. I'd actually give it 4.5 stars if I knew how. This local restaraunt has soup, salad, and sandwiches on the menu. They bake their bread and make their own soups. The sandwiches are all their own recipes. The minuses would be the service is not fast and I am not sure if they have options on the bread selection. The sandwiches I generally get have Focaccia though they have at least one other kind. I find the quality of the food to be very good. They also have desserts which tend to be much better than chain restaraunts, and reasonably priced. They are open several nights during the week though not on Saturdays. They have a selection of beers on tap including stout, porter, and local brews.

Roca Restaurant & Bar

Reviews:
Wow, What a surprisingly nice find. Glazed peach pork chop chef cooked exclusively for one our children with a life threatening allergy. My blackened red fish with the crab meat and sauce on top was exquisite, and was equally as great as any meal in New Orleans or Atlanta I've had. The fritters, oysters with collards were delicious. Great dinning experience tucked away at the Vicksburg country club. Don't let the club detour you, it's open to the public and very casual. High end seafood experience in a casual southern country club environment. Well be back next year.
Vicksburg, MS is one of those towns that I think of when I hear someone use the expression "the sidewalks roll up at 6pm". I think the restaurants all close about 9pm here, 10 at the latest. Roca is a fancy restaurant in Vicksburg, quite possibly the fanciest restaurant in this laid back charming little town. There are a few separate areas. There is the dining room, a bar and a separate banquet room for private parties. It's a nice, ambient lit and intimate feeling place, despite its large size. I had the Spicy Crawfish pasta which has creole cream, bacon, mushrooms, spinach and penne. It was very generously portioned and very good. There was so much of it I couldn't finish it all and took the rest home and ate it the next day. Even cold it was good. Our waitress was a little overbearing and came to the table way too much I thought. I think she was trying to be friendly but we were there to have a quiet dinner not a dinner listening to all of her personal stories. Other than that it was a pretty good experience and I would definitely come back if I were ever in the area again.
Another fabulous meal at rocas! Hubby got the shrimp and grits, which he loved! I had filet and they special made the coffee ribeye for john, which was awesome! We drive an hour just to eat here and it is so worth it, every time!
