The best home cooking in Northeast Mississippi. The owner used to be at a small convenience store in Pontotoc county. The plate lunches there were worth the drive. Now he has a full-service restaurant. But, it's the lunch buffet that will make you cry. Fried chicken, chicken dumplings, dressing, roast beef, fried okra and the desserts are truly unbelievable. I couldn't do it everyday. It's a good thing I'm only that way every now and then. It's certainly worth the 100 mile drive.

My first experience with Steele's Dive was much better than tonight. Tonight when we came in, the place was very busy. We decided to sit in the dining room. While it was busy, we immediately were seated in a both nearest to the drink station. Our waitress brought us menus and I asked for a drink menu as well. We got our drinks fairly quickly, sweet tea and a water (but no straws and couldn't seem to get a waitress to give up one). They have a 2/$12 deal so we tried the BBQ nachos and spicy chicken wings. Both were average. I attempted to order a cocktail while placing my appetizer order, but the waitress cut me off and told me she would be right back, we asked for straws, but she didn't leave any. We finally received a straw for our drinks 15-20 mins later when a kitchen staffer brought out our appetizers. It was awkward because we still had our menus and hadn't placed our dinner order. When our waitress came back to place our order (while we were eating our appetizers), she commented that our wings smelled bad (stink as she said). They were just your run of the mill spicy chicken wings, but I guess she found the sauce overpowering? We decided to look past her comment and finished our order. I ordered the grilled shrimp with a salad instead of slaw with a baked potato. Our waitress made very sure to inform me that my salad was going to be a $1.50 up charge. (I assumed it would be, I just do not like coleslaw). At that time I also ordered an Abita root beer. He got the ribeye with loaded baked potato and salad. Both meals were well made, though the steak had quite a bit of gristle (I tried a piece myself) and my shrimp was over seasoned. The baked potatoes were perfect as were my hush puppies. The waitress never brought me my root beer, but placed the charge on our ticket, when I asked her to remove it (nicely), she blamed the bar area for not "sitting it out" again. I assume there is some tension between wait staff and the bartenders I still did the right thing and tipped her well. There was a couple in their 50's seated near us that got much better service from the same waitress. She was very chatty with them asking them where they were from (Birmingham, Alabama), told them about tomorrow's lunch special, etc. She treated my husband and I like like we were bothersome from the time we sat down. I can only wonder if she saw a young couple and thought that we would not be able to afford our meal or would not tip well which is far from the case. I have been once during the week and it was not as busy. We had a much better server and better quality of food. I'm going to try one more time, maybe in a month or so for lunch, but I will not sit in the same area again.

We ate here on a weeknight and the waitress we had did not seem happy to be at work. The drink I ordered was ok but would have been hard to mess up. The waitress never checked back on us. It seemed like she put us on back burner because of age(assuming we don't know how to tip). The food was average nothing to write home about. The sides we ordered were obviously not home cooked but were canned/frozen. Then before we were finished or asked if we wanted to purchase anything else our ticket was dropped on our table (it was only 7:45). If our waitress wasn't borderline rude to my GF and there wasn't Hinder and Nickelback on the radio the entire time I might give them 3 stars.

After visiting a family friend in Pontotoc, my mom and I were pretty hungry and wanted something to eat. We originally agreed on Wing Stop, but after falling asleep in the car, I woke up in the parking lot of this revolting establishment. Where do I even begin? Let's start with the cleanliness. From the moment we walked in, all of the tables in the dining room were dirty. I'm not kidding. Our waitress jokingly says, "I'm so sorry, I've been busy!" I scanned the room and there were only three other parties, all of which were finished eating their meal. Mind you, it was about 1PM and the place was oddly empty. Not customary for a restaurant in Tupelo at lunch time. Then, the bathroom floors were sticky, as if someone spilled kool-aid on the ground and didn't properly mop it up. The door didn't lock either, so if anyone walked in, they would probably see all of your glory. Let's move on, to the poorly put together menu, food and service. While our waitress was really nice and courteous, she didn't know anything about the food on the menu nor were we offered napkins. She even had to go ask the chef what certain dishes included. Something she wouldn't have to do if she had proper training and if the menus actually contained brief descriptions of each meal - that's not hard work. The food was the worst part, we basically wasted $26 on food you can honestly make at home. We both ordered the fried shrimp po boys, my mom had onion rings and I had the spicy fries (I'm still laughing at the spicy bit). We all know that po boys are not sandwiches you eat on a diet. They're big. They're meaty. They're messy. This one? It was more of a bread sandwich, bread you can get at Walmart for about a $1. There was more bread than anything. The sandwich had popcorn shrimp and you didn't get many, once again, it was similar to shrimp you can find at the Walmart frozen food section. When I tasted my spicy fries, I looked my mom dead in the eye and told her these were fries I had made a few days earlier. They not only tasted but looked dead like Arby's curly fries IN THE FROZEN FOOD SECTION. Not to mention, the sandwich barely had either mayo or remoulade, something the waitress said comes on it. The funny part? When my mom and I go out to eat, my son usually falls asleep afterwards, as if he ate a good meal himself. He was so grouchy and fussy, which isn't normal for him. We were ready to leave and almost rushed out of the door once we received our check. I should have read the yelp reviews of this place before setting foot inside. I'm confused as to how it's still open. UPDATE 12/17/14 Steele's reported and had my review of their establishment removed. Citing that it didn't critique the product, which is farther from the truth.

Sunday Buffet is great! I don't know what these other people are complaining about, cornbread was delicious, chicken spagetti was too. Decent tea, maybe a little to sweet if anything. Overall, my family enjoyed the food and the service.

New place getting good word of mouth was an utter disappointment. I ate there for Sunday lunch. They have a "buffet" which was actually cafeteria style served by a surly black woman who clearly didn't want to be there. Choices were acceptable fried chicken, an undercooked hash brown casserole, vegetables right from the can, and a choice of prepackaged roll or cornbread. Go for the roll. The cornbread was a chunk of rubber - easily the worst cornbread I'd ever had in my life, which I pointed out to the manager. How do you serve awful cornbread in Mississippi? No excuse. Far better choices out there for Sunday lunch in Tupelo.

These other reviews fail to mention that the restaurant is brand new so of course they have suffered these growing pains. The owner has been in the food business for a while and makes great "fish house" style food. I've had the catfish and hamburger steak and both were very good. I got the whole catfish and it was cooked right. The breaking was well seasoned cornmeal and it was fried crisp in good oil do it wasn't greasy.

I go to Steele's Dive often and have never been disappointed. Service is always awesome and the food is great! There is a wonderful atmosphere with live music on the weekends or a large separate dining room with big screen TV's everywhere. It is the place to be on game day! It's nice to have such a great local place and not have to drive an hour or two to get there.

The first time we came here was for lunch. We were ignored and not seated, so we left. We came back after deciding to give it another shot and it was not that good. I got the hamburger steak . The server didn't ask how I would like it cooked. It was too raw for my liking, and like mine medium. It had raw onions on it. I had asked for fried okra as my side and they gave me cold fries. My wife's food, chicken strips and fries, were bland and luke warm. The server never came by to check on us. Our drinks sat empty for 20 minutes while other servers walked by and never did anything, even after looking at our empty glasses four times. We decided to try it one more time during the evening. I got the smoked chicken wrapped in bacon and my wife got the whole fish. My chicken was dry, as we're the hush puppies. My wife likes her fish and potato salad. The waitress was a little better this time but has very little if any food knowledge. I asked a basic question and she couldn't answer it. When you look at the menu it is hard to decide what you would like because there is a lack of descriptions. I mean this place could be great with some training and work.
