Hands down, this is one of the best restaurants in Starkville. Their blue plate special is perfect for the lunch crowd. The duck pizza and the po-boys are also good. They usually do a good job with the amount of salt used to season the food. (unlike many other restaurants in Starkville). However, I tried the chicken meatloaf and it was an epic failure--tasted like I was biting into a brick of salt. Other than that, everything else has been good. The service is always excellent.

I can't say enough about the BBQ fried okra!! Oh my goodness - it's the best thing I've eaten in a while. I expected little crispy medallions, but I got full pods fried and dusted with a dry rub! Amazing! The Lucky Town Ballistic Blonde made it even better- if that's even possible. The all-Mississippi-craft beer tap is impressive with Restaurant Tyler's eat local theme. The fries are certainly not fresh and local ... They're not even good. I didn't eat them. The waitress didn't notice or ask why despite what I thought was a charming conversation about MS's new craft beers. It should be said that I LOVE greens! No these. Maybe they're old? I don't know- but I left them uneaten too. The fried shrimp is good. Light and crispy- not too fishy. Again, though, those okra pods!!! They are SO good!!! We ate upstairs - but I am nearly certain the food is the same as downstairs. If the fries don't make the menu downstairs- you're in business. I will try downstairs next time in hopes of more menus items on par with that okra!

Had a fantastic meal!! Started with the crawfish dip that was delicious but not too filling. Then proceeded to the scrumptious tuna over grits that was perfectly cooked and professionally plated.i finished on a sweet note of having the salted caramel pudding. Service was could have been better but I will definitely be dining here again and again

Never had a bad dish but the trophy goes to the Cream cheese and fruit crepes dessert. The lunch specials are great and huge portions. The Hamburger Steak is one of the best I've ever had. Very nice atmosphere and the new bar in back (The Guestroom) is beyond cool. Small speak-easy environment that is particularly attractive to those of us who have aged out of the club/college-years lifestyle.

Went back for a second time and decided to go for dinner this time and was very disappointed. We are not sure if they change the menu for dinner or did they change the menu all together. I had the chicken w/the gravy was very bland. sweet tea was great that was about it! Service wasn't great.. The waitress keep for getting things that we would ask for and the place was not even busy it was us a party of 5 and a table of 6.

This is my girlfriend's favorite place for Eggs Benedict. This was my first visit to Restaurant Tyler. It was a Sunday and not too crowded. We got a seat immediately. I had a sweet tooth this morning and went with The Tyler with side of bacon. I like some salty with my sweet. The waffle was good and not too overly sweet. The bacon was perfectly pair. I do like more crunch on the waffle especially thinner waffle. I think it just sat in cream and syrup too long. Still it was delicious. We all enjoyed our brunch and good way to end our trip to Starkville.

This is easily my favorite restaurant in all of Mississippi! The upscale atmosphere and pleasant service never fails. The food is always perfectly cooked. Their brunch menu is great. Last time I got the catfish cake benedict and it was so good! If you're there for dinner check out the specials or go for the "Heart of the Ribeye". You won't be disappointed.

Restaurant Tyler is a unique gem in Starkville! I love how the food is upscale, yet always has a Southern twist and local ingredients. I've had the brunch, blue plate lunch, and dinner, and I can't decide which is my favorite!

Personally very underwhelmed by the Shrimp and Grits. The shrimp were wrapped in "bacon" that was really just soggy, undercooked fat. I actually gagged when I bit into one and had to peel the fat off of the shrimp to eat it. Bloody Marys were excellent and my cousin got Fettuccini Alfredo and it had a nice cajun kick to it. Nice atmosphere but sadly the patio was closed when we visited.

Restaurant Tyler has a nice, up-scale setting. The decor is characterized by dark wood paneling and an understated elegance. The lunch menu has a good variety and is priced very well for a "better" dining option. The only problem is that my dish, which was reported by my server as the "best selling" lunch offering was just not "all that". The Blackened catfish was over spiced and over cooked. The crawfish sauce over the fish was good and had the fish been better would have been a nice touch. My sides, butter beans & purple hull peas, were very good. I will likelly give Restaurant Tyler another try, hopefully with better results.

Had reservations for 7 for a client dinner and hostess put us at a table for 6 and offered to bring us a seventh chair. When my business partner asked for a different table the hostess was put out. I would understand if it was a busy night, but it was dead slow. The language the hostess used was fine, but her tone and body language and eye roll were insulting. Maybe she was just having an off night, but in a small town with as many alternatives as there are here, and as many college kids who want good jobs, Restaurant Tyler could do better. Food was pretty good, but I won't eat here again for another year or so.

I think this is the best restaurant in the Golden Triangle! The Sweet Potato Gnocchi is my favorite but I haven't had a bad meal yet!!

I love Restaurant Tyler - I've never been disappointed here, and the lunch specials are amazing. The last time I was here for lunch they had their own special version of a BLT, with house cured bacon that was to die for. Where else in Starkville are you going to find a restaurant that makes their own bacon in-house? I will say that I actually prefer to come here for lunch rather than dinner because I think the dinner menu is a little limited, as another poster mentioned. They have more of a range at lunch time.

Best upscale restaurant in Starkville. They have really improved their food and service over the last year, and I enjoyed the tasting menu they had available last night.

This is a nice place in downtown Starkville we started off with the fried okra. My granddaughter had the wood is that a hamburger steak turn up greens and sweet potato. She gives everything a thumbs up good. I had the fried chicken. Same ole fried breast but the sauce was wonderful. I also had sweet potato casserole that tasted just like my home made. The cheese grits were the best. I'm choosy about my cheese grits so I know were of I speak. I'll be back.

The food's presentation was very impressive....Unfortunately the food is also very cold. The service is attentive...Unfortunately it's also very slow and sporadic. Very Nice interior decoration and atmosphere....unfortunately it's also VERY LOUD! hahaha...hey restaurant Tyler...Try mixing in some soft wall coverings to deaden the crowd noise and turn down the music. This place is SO close to being 4/5 stars but I don't think they really care to try.

Had really high hopes for this place. Wanted a good upscale place in Starkville. Walking in the write ups on the wall made me even more excited. But after ordering and eating I was not impressed. The place was cold. Walls and temperature. Asked for recommendations and it was like asking wrong question. It was all good. Said I wanted fish and he recommended blue plate catfish. Most popular was blackened. I got that. Had been told to get sweet potato fries. Not good.

I never get tired of the hunt for fabulous food finds, among these gems is a true shining diamond, Restaurant Tyler. This a a textbook example of a perfect dining establishment. From the stark yet chic decor like the vintage tiny black and white octagon tile floor to the exposed brick and distressed plaster walls with local funky cool artwork to the killer cuisine, sharp staff, to the great background music this place is class and style personified. It was an expensive affair but worth every cent. The place makes everything from scratch, uses locally sourced ingredients, and does a unique creative and interesting take on Southern cooking. I started with the Duck sausage appetizer with house made smoked duck sausage wrapped in house made duck bacon, baked with Gorgonzola tomato sauce, and truffled fontina cheese. Arguably one of the best things I have ever had in many years of business travel. Yelpers please note I maintain nearly 300 days on the road annually, that's a lot of meals in restaurants. For the entree I went for the Bone in Cold smoked pork chop which was grilled with Mississippi honey, truffle Demi glaze, served with cheese grits which were outstanding, and roasted yellow zucchini. So f@%king delicious I was close to tears that I could finish it due to eating every morsel of the incredible appetizer (bread and all)! This place is top shelf all the way and impressive compared to any metropolis joint I've tried so surprising to find in a hick town like Starkville. Do not, I repeat do not pass up an the opportunity to eat at Tyler's. It's a lesson in life to have such a perfect dining experience. FoodDude!

It's the lunch your grandmother would prepare, if your grandmother had been to culinary school. Restaurant Tyler provides southern flavor with a touch of high society. The plate I received would be what I would expect if the chef were preparing it for someone they knew were writing a review but I was just another patron during THE LUNCH RUSH and my and my wife's plates were near perfection -and all that for more than a reasonable price. But even more remarkable, they were able to please the pickiest of critics -my wife! ;) This may become our official spot.

Restaurant Tyler ranges on given nights from really good to outstanding. The BBQ Okra appetizer is surprisingly good, and people rave over the crawfish dip. They do a good job of mixing in specials, but the rib eye with cheese grits (maybe their best item) is a worthy mainstay on the menu. Their desserts are very good - particularly the stuffed pancakes. Yes, sounds crazy, but really good. Service can range from ehh to good; just depends on who you get. The atmosphere is best on those days when it's a little crowded, so midweek dining isn't always the best option for me personally. I am appreciative of having a local restaurant in Starkville that provides this level of quality.

Great atmosphere, excellent service. The food is always very good. Southern food, gourmet style. Love that they use fresh local ingredients when they can. This is big city quality food in a small southern town.

I am updating my review. I have not been at night again so I can't comment on if it has changed, but I do enjoy eating lunch here. I normally get the shrimp on the blue plate and it is very good. I have also had brunch on Sunday there and it is very good. The portions are huge though.

This is a really nice place on Main St. in Starkville. The food is locally sourced and is really good. My favorite time to go is lunch because it's a great deal for the quality and quantity of food and the price. Be sure to have about an hour and fifteen minutes for lunch though. Dinner is a little more expensive. Restaurant Tyler is definitely a good place to go on a nice date or to take the family.

Best restaurant in Starkville. Each dish is prepared with great detail. You can not go wrong here. Wide variety of choices. the best thing about Restaurant Tyler to me is that they not only do a great dinner but they have mastered the blue plate lunch. Both of which are a step above any other restaurant in Starkville. I would put Restaurant Tyler up there with the best restaurants in Mississippi. Truly a must visit place in Starkville.

What a gem!!! I haven't been in town since I graduated. A business associate recommended this place and the online menu looked appealing. We got a table for nine. The entire staff was very accommodating and attentive. Every dish was cooked perfectly. Specialties include local foods such as duck, shrimp, crawfish, etc. I will definitly go back here on my next trip into town. The food quality and preparation in this place is world class. Keep up the good work.

Tyler is an unparalleled dining experience for the area. It is worth coming through Starkville, MS to experience chef Ty Thames' twist on Southern fine-dining. Restaurant Tyler is truly unique in the fact that most up-scale eateries are themed around French, Italian, etc... cuisine, but this menu adds a phenomenon of uniqueness to Southern fare. I love that the food is locally sourced, and many things are made in-house such as the bacon. As for the atmosphere, the paintings on the walls are beautiful and the layout gives you a good level of privacy. It would be a romantic spot for a date or perfect for business meetings, and I can't wait to have a girls' night soon. The wait staff is attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and experienced which is hard to find in a college town. Basically, you would be missing out and have many miles to drive in order to experience anything as delightful and delectable as Restaurant Tyler.

This was my first time in Restaurant Tyler. There was a nice crowd there, so I figured it was a great place. I am sorry to say that a few culinary mistakes and poor service gave me a negative impression. We ordered bbq okra for our appetizer. It was fantastic. Someone from the kitchen brought it out, not the waiter. The problem was that our waiter didn't even take our entree order until we were half way finished with the appetizer. He consistently seemed to ignore us throughout the evening. Waiters need to be just as helpful to a table or two as they are with a larger party. The other waiters and waitresses seemed to be providing good service to other tables though. My friend ordered the fried catfish. It was one piece of fish with 3 hushpuppies for $16. That is all that was on the plate. That is absurd. I ordered the duck burger for the entree. This was a problem. I actually am pretty sure the burger was chicken instead of duck. It was white with no duck flavor. I have experience with duck, and it's always been dark. The biggest problem was that it was RAW in the middle. Not undercooked in the middle. RAW. I tried to bring this to Tyler's attention, but he was rubbing shoulders with a "big dog" on the floor. So I just ate the edges of the burger. For dessert, we ordered sweet potato creme brulee. The taste was absolutely fantastic. One of the best tasting creme brulees I have ever eaten. The problem was that the sugar on top was not caramelized. A restaurant with it's reputation should never fail on two very fundamental cooking techniques. That, in addition to our poor service, soured my visit there. I was very much looking forward to being impressed by Restaurant Tyler. I am sorry to say that I was not.

Best place to eat in Starkville hands down. Go for lunch if you want filling portions at a great price.

So far, this is the best restaurant I've eaten at in Mississippi. Fresh ingredients, great preparation, impeccable service, nice atmosphere. The local art on the walls is a nice touch. The prices are high enough I only come here for work or special occasions, but would go more often if possible. My only critique is for chef Tyler to stretch us a little bit and show us his true range. His interpretations on southern food really take that style of food to a new level, but i would bet a chicken fried steak and some grits that he can do far more. Don't let the local yocals corral you Tyler! Show us what you got, we can take it!

Every time I think about this restaurant my mouth starts to water. The atmosphere is really cozy when you walk in due to the several booths in the center and then the tables surrounding those. There is a great bar in the back that I have yet to try out but its the food itself that stands out. When I first went, I tried the lunch special which is around $8 -$9 and gives you the choice between po-boys, catfish and fried chicken, sweet potato fries, cheese grits, collard greens, and more. The catfish was seasoned just right and for someone who doesn't like grits, I will eat theirs all day long! The next item I tried was the bacon wrapped shrimp, with cheese grits and sauteed spinach, just delish!! As a very cute side note, they serve their beverages in mason jars. Their waitstaff is very friendly, and there is one waiter that every time I go in, he's always singing a rock song while he works :-) All in all a very good restaurants, for dates and lunch, and they have a piano bar after hours! My fave restaurant in Starkville so far!

One word, Brunch. I go to Tyler every Sunday to take advantage of their Brunch menu. The Chicken and Waffle is probably my favorite thing to eat in Starkville. The environment here is very chill and they are in the process of renovating it, I'm excited to see what it will look like!
