So I really love this place. Tons of options and not a bad item on the menu. Have been a regular since before they moved locations. I recommend coming early as the place fills up quick at lunchtime.

We live near here and have gone several times. The good: the home style southern dishes are great like country fried steak, baba chicken and meatloaf. It's not a full service restaurant, you order first at a register then have a waiter/waitress that veins your food but you get your own drink and no one really checks on you at all. So not my favorite place to eat in. The not so good: We get to-go a lot, but their take out portions are ridiculously small. For instance $8 for fish and 2 sides and they only give you one pice of fish. Honestly Cracker Barrel is better portion and price wise. The burgers aren't good at all. I'd prefer to grill my own. They're usually overdone, greasy, and under seasoned. I like their bread pudding but after they got our order wrong tonight, they gave us free brownie and ice cream. The brownie was so hard my silverware wouldn't break through it. I mean I know it was free but if you mess an order up and offer something like this as compensation, it better be good. It was not. Not to mention when they mixed our order up their first suggestion was to come pickup the already made correct one. If we'd done that it would've been sitting out for 30 minutes. They argued over the phone about who got it wrong before they put a manger on. As a customer I don't care who got it wrong, just make it right. I can homemake any of their items twice as good, so in not impressed.

We went for lunch on a Friday. As soon as you walk in the doors the place smells delicious and lets you know that you're in for a treat. I got a plate with fried catfish, rice and gravy, and macaroni and cheese. The rice and gravy wasn't amazing, but the macaroni was better than most and the fish was the best I've had in town. My only complaint at all was the lack of real direction. You order at the counter and need to get your own utensils and fill your own drink. Not really problems, but that isn't explained and you're likely to end up having to go fetch a fork after your food arrives. Regardless, it was very good.

I'm a barbq lover and wanted to try the ribs ..... I saw meatloaf on the menu and errrrrrrrp - I rarely find meatloaf on the menu so I changed my mind. Mistake ....... it was the end of the loaf and a good part of it was burnt. They brought out another piece and apologized .....it was a little better than average. the vegetables were very good and I'm not a veggie-type of guy. The other negative you HAVE to realize - it is hard as hell to find. It is inside a strip mall but the stores go away from the street and do NOT face the street. You can NOT see it from the highway - won't happen. You will to drive down the hill and away from the street to find it ...... the service is OUTSTANDING .... i would go again ....i would just try something else Try it .....I'd give them a 3.75 but they are so friendly, courteous and helpful and I imagine some of the yelpers are taking that into consideration with their ratings ...... they are friendly and work at their craft

I first ate here in 2002 when my boss told me about it. We went together and I ordered the chicken tenders, fries, rice, and cream corn. A piece of corn bread came with it as well. The food was excellent! I'm not a cornbread eater either, but theirs is great. Over the years I took my family there and new coworkers as i changed jobs. I moved out of MS for four years but I still made time to visit when i could. Last month I ate there and I ordered my "usual" tenders, fries, ccorn, rice, all with a side of corn bread. In the now TWELVE years since I first ate at the Trace Grill, the price has barely gone up (pennies) and the food tastes exactly the same as the first time I went. If I could give them six stars I would.

Was only in the Ridgeland area for a week and came here twice. Was a bit hard to find since its not really visible off the main road. Reasonably priced meals and good bang for your buck if you get the blue plate deal. A very solid amount of meat on the ribs. Staff was very friendly. Pleasantly surprised by the fried catfish, the breading on it wasn't overwhelming, something that many places will do to their fried seafood. Only complaint if I were to really have one was the coleslaw was average. Would definitely come back here next time im near Jackson!

Yummy, southern and fun! Nice family owned business. The food is great! Rosemary grilled chicken salad with house vin and a side of sweet potato fries is what I order!

Great place for lunch or dinner. Fabulous burgers and exceptional blue plate offerings. The blue plates are available as a meat and one, two, or three vegetables. The entrees and vegetables are great. The one disappointment has been the mashed potatoes.

Atmosphere, value, quality, and yumminess are the outstanding features in my mind. The food is Southern, delicious, and deadly. Catfish is cooked flawlessly. Burgers are big and tasty. Service has been reasonably swift for me, even during rush periods.

Very good "down home" food! Been many times, never been dissatisfied. Have a meat-and-three for the sides.

OK, let me set this up for you. Me and my wife are sick and don't feel like cooking. She sends me to Trace Grill to pick up dinner. We love Trace Grill and eat here frequently. They are one of the best meat & 3 places around. Great selection of veggies and the burgers are good. So I get home after picking up our dinner and the order was mixed up. Tired, sick, hungry, & irritated, I call the restaurant to complain. The manager immediatly wanted to make this right. I didn't expect or want a "free meal" but I just didn't want to drive back to the restaurant (like I have done dozens of times before at other places that got my order wrong) I didn't ask to have my order brought to me but the manager offered. With a sick wife and running fever myself, this was like having the rain clouds part and the sun shine down on us. They even compensated us for the trouble. This kind of old fashoined service is rarely seen these days and I am gratefull for it. We are already frequent customers but now these guys have my loyalty and resect. Hats off to these guys. You guys did a really nice thing for a couple of sick hungry and now satisfied people. Oh yeah, the food was great too

First of all the restaurant is in a new location. Very casual/homey atmosphere. I ordered the Blackened Redfish with slaw and fried green tomatoes. I realize this is not their speciality and I have seen good reviews about their other items. With that said, the slaw was the best thing on my plate. Everything else needed salt and the redfish needed more spice to be truthfully considered blackened in my opinion

Checked out the new location last night. it is really a nice place. It was fairly crowded at 6:30. That is good to see. No way another business that does not have such a following could survive there with no HWY 51 frontage. I had a Bacon Cheese on White last night. The patty was good, not great, but not overcooked, which is a killer to me. Bacon was nice and crispy and the white bun was really, really good. I liked it much better than the Jalapeno bun I had last time. Bun and burger were a perfect fit when I got the large (8oz) and it stayed together nicely.

On recommendation of family I tried this restaurant. I was not disappointed. I have eaten here several times in the last 2 weeks. The Blue Plate specials are good as well as the fish plate. The plates are huge. Everytime I have got a doggie bag. The fish was good, not the best but not the worse by a long shot. The fish was crispy and hot -- I was not crazy about the breading, however. Parking is a problem. Hopefully they can get it worked out. There is little to no signage out front so you have to know where you are going. Great place to meet for a quick good meal.

I called this place to see what time they closed as I was on ny way to another eatery. The young lady who answered the phone told me 8:30. Well about a minute later I got a call from the owner who told me they were going to close at 7:30 because of the weather. He didn't want me to show up later and the place would be closed. I appreciate the fact that he took the time out to call me and let me know that they were closing earlier then usual. I ordered the garlic rosemary chicken breast fried green tomato and sweet potato fries. I also ordered the blackberry cobbler with ice cream. Everything was pretty good I really enjoyed the blackberry cobbler it was delicious. As for the cost I can't complain. If ever in the area again I will come here again. The thoughtfullness of the owner and friendliness of the staff tops my reason to return.

We ordered burgers, and the way were so dry I practically choked them down... The only items we enjoyed were the fries and and ranch dressing.

Good place for lunch but not anything spectacular . Really liked the service, sweet potato fries, salad was fresh, and blackened chicken was really good. Would come back even got take out..

We yelped "Southern Food" to find The Trace Grill. We weren't disappointed...lots to pick from the big menu, many sides to customize your plate. Fried catfish was great and so was the blackberry cobbler. Could have had a few more hushpuppies. You order from the counter, get your own drink and they bring to table. They close early...8:30pm. I would go back if I lived here.

Really enjoyed the smoked porkchop, greens, black eyed peas & green tomatoes. I don't fully understand the dry cornbread thing around these parts, but whatever. I got the bread pudding to go, and it was also pretty damn good. The staff were all very friendly. My gramma would have felt really good about this place.

Awesome ribs! Awesome atmosphere! Writing on the walls! This hidden gem just outside of Jackson reminds me of the kind of place you find up in the mountain villages near a ski resort. Homey, friendly, good food, great atmosphere. Leave your mark... it's encouraged... I did!

New restaurant due North of old log cabin is quite an upgrade - spacious and a slightly expanded menu. Blue plates and burgers are still a must here.

Their menu is so big - I try something new every time and haven't had anything I didn't like! Highly recommend their chicken fried steak, their chicken tenders, definitely if they have their red fish special, all of their veggies and their onion rings are the best! Great, homey atmosphere with great, friendly service. Definitely recommend!

Outstanding food and genuine hospitiality!! I discovered this place on yelp and wanted to call ahead to make sure they were still open. I spoke to the manager, Jonathon and asked him about the menu. He was extremely friendly, asked my name and said he would be there to greet me 187 miles later. We pulled up to a very quaint, log cabin style restaurant. We were welcomed by Jonathon and the staff. You order at the counter from a extensive menu. The portions are very large and very reasonable. This is southern homestyle cooking at its BEST!! I had the catfish platter which was really great - the best hushpuppies ever. My daughter had the ribs which were very meaty and tasty. The fried green tomatoes are a must!! If in the area you really need to check this place out.

This place has character! I wish the show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives would visit this place. If you go, you've got to try the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy!

Atmosphere was nice. I probably ordered the wrong thing. Ribs were dry. Mash potatoes were disgusting. Wife had the chicken tenders not bad at all. I probably went at the wrong time. (1pm).

The Trace Grill (along with Two Sisters) is a very respectable way to sample southern cooking. The bake fresh buns for their burgers like a Jalapeno-Cheddar that are pretty tasty. Their BBQ sauce isnt great so if you get ribs you may want to try the dry ribs. They do a pretty big spread of plate lunch options. Get your country friend steak & 3 sides to catfish, fried green tomatoes, fried shrimp, homemade chili, salads, red beans and rice, meatloaf, etc.. The bread pudding is ok..kind of average. The place is pretty crowded, claustrophic if you hit it at prime meal time. Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Saturday until 3:00 p.m. Catering is available.

Had a chili burger. It was great! Big and messy. The burger list is huge and I can't wait to explore it more. Extensive menu of southern favorites looks amazing too. Warm atmosphere. Gets crowded for lunch, but the line moves quickly. Bring visitors here!

AWSOME! We live in the neighorhood behind the Trace Grill and call in about twice a week for take out. Service is fast and friendly. I can't say enough good things about the food. I have tried all of the burgers and most of the plates. You will never be disappointed!

A great place to get home cooking. The menu provides you with a variety of foods that mom use to make. They have plate specials that you can get any time of the day. They include a meat and three veggies along with bread. I generally get their hamburger steak with mushrooms, blackeyed peas, green beans, macaroni and cheese and cornbread. It's a wonderful and filling meal. The only downside of the place is it's way too crowded in the building. You're constantly bumping into people or having a hard time getting back to your seat after refilling your drink. Most of the time if you come around noon, you'll have to wait in line for up to 20 minutes to place your order. I've heard rumors of expansion and this place really needs it. The decor is interesting. There is basically every automobile tag you can think of on the wall as well as customer graffiti. Customers are allowed to just write on the wall. That might not be the best idea since some messages are vulgar and/or racial, but I guess they don't inspect it. The parking is lackluster because there are no lines in the parking lot. Just a gravel lot where you try to "get in where you fit in". Outside of the cramped space and terrible parking, it's a really nice place, espcially in the evenings when it's less crowded.

Visited this place for lunch for the first time and thought it was good. I was amazed at how crowed the place was and I understand why. The potions are generous, price reasonable and food tasty. It is semi self-serve; you get your own drinks, utensils, napkins and condiments. I cannot wait to check it out again. They have a huge menu. Go hungry.
