So this place is a little bit of a dive. It is on the town square. My mom and I came in for lunch. I will say this is not the place for someone who is wanting healthy food. They are limited on those, but I got the "Alex's Lunch" and I was impressed. The food comes out quickly and the staff is very friendly and attentive. I would recommend trying their pickles and "cheese sticks" The cheese sticks are not fried. They are literally raw cheese sticks. They put the dry rub on the pickles and "cheese sticks" and it is an AMAZING combination. I would definitely go back.

First time in Oxford, wanted to try some Southern bbq. It was Sunday, so our options were limited. The place wasn't too busy, so we got a seat as soon as we walked in. I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to BBQ, so it was disconcerting to see the variety of menu items they had, like a BBQ quesadilla. Anyway, food didn't stack up to what I normally consider good BBQ. The pork had a strange (bitter?) aftertaste to it, and the chicken was dry and required plenty of sauce. I had ordered ribs and got pork instead (too much of a Midwesterner to complain) but I got to try a rib, again a little dry for my taste and lacking in smoked flavor but pretty well seasoned. They are out of their minds charging what they do. My tea was 2.99 and the two meat combo plate for 17.99 was worth maybe 11.99 for amount of food and quality for me. Service was slow, they appeared understaffed and slow compared to par for BBQ, likely due to variety of items. Pretty average overall, it's right in downtown Oxford and had a decent atmosphere, but I would hardly call it a definitive BBQ experience.

Service sucked, food sucked. Was served on plastic plates and forks food tasted like a week old. Had to ask for service, napkins forks tea. They were running out if food. I ordered and all my food didn't come out I was told a bunch of excuses. Since moving here from California" I will not come back!"

They have the most awesome quesadillas for an appetizer!!! Everyone in town suggests this place to eat. It's usually open later than the other restaurants on the square.

This is a great gathering place for family and friends. The food is good. The portions are a normal size. The atmosphere is friendly and collegiate. I always stop by at least when I'm in Oxford.

Awesome ribs (dry rub, not the Texas kind) with sides that are way better than you'd expect looking at the place. The cole slaw and beans were perfect. The rib plate is huge and there's plenty of meat on the bones. They also have a ridiculous appetizer of pork quesadillas that will fill you up before you even start on yo' ribs. I'm guessing this place gets loud and wild on weekend nights. Also has several TVs tuned (as they should be) to sports.

Only a fifteen minute wait for dinner on a home gameday while every other restaurant in town is predicting two hours? Yup, BBQ for dinner sounded just fine. Service was surprisingly great for such a packed house, and the food is very reasonable. I didn't think there was much smoke flavor to the chicken meat, but i liked that I could get it on top of a baked potato for extra carby goodness. Cole slaw was okay, and our server kept our giant drink glasses full for the entire meal (and bonus: they're nice plastic to go cups that you can take with you!). My dining companion ordered a traditional pulled pork sandwich with a side of cheesesticks, and we were both surprised that the cheesesticks were not your standard fried mozzeralla, but rather just cut sticks of plain, cold cheddar cheese. Overall, nothing remarkable, but a clean, cool, place to escape the crowds on game day. There are better restaurants in Oxford for sure, but I doubt any of them would have tasted as good as that BBQ did after "Groving" all day...

I had one of the best nights of my life in this place!! A friend and I were driving back from N'Ola and stopped to grab lunch on the road. Food is great and had the pleasure of partying with the staff all night! Highly recommend

The ribs were juicy! The sausage was was smoky and the bread was out of this world. Not as good as Texas BBQ, but this place definitely deserves four stars! Wish they offered more than just key lime pie for dessert.

Popping in to Oxford for the weekend I needed to catch lunch. Just off the square the Rib Cage is right there on Lamar. Catching a parking spot in front was a bit of luck. They serve their ribs "Memphis style" which means they are smoked "dry", meaning that only a dry rub is applied ribs. I ordered the "Ribs, just ribs". Along with some beer of course. It was good for a casual drop in.

My brother took me here for lunch after making a day trip to Oxford to visit him at Ole Miss! It was early afternoon, on a week day, and the place was pretty empty! The waitress working that day was super friendly, and soo helpful! I ordered the Quail lunch! and it was fantastic!.. but be prepared to get your hands a little dirty, as you have to pick the meat off the little quail bones! The beans and slaw were also delicious!.. I ended up helping my brother finisih off his! :) He had the BBQ Plate, and of coarse I stole a little bite of his meal!... The BBQ was divine.. and being from Memphis, Im a little bit of a BBQ snob! We had a great lunch at The Rib Cage, the food was delicious, and the service was great! I would love to come back again on my next trip to Oxford!

The worst by far the worst meal I've ever eaten at a resturant.Chicken was leather, ribs were dry and had no flavor! The cole slaw was store bought, the best part of the meal was the texas toast. I cannot believe that people walk in there twice! I was with two other people and they thought the same. I cannot do enough to bash the food, it was aweful, I'd be ashamed to work there much less own that place!!! If you think this is good BBQ you need to come to Chicago. We left and went across the street and had a pizza, what does that say

There are a few things not to do in life: don't wear a MS State shirt in Oxford, don't fry bacon without a shirt on, and most importantly: don't go to the Cage without a sausage & cheese plate and a BBQ quesadilla. Great stuff!! Attentive staff, great atmosphere and just great people to hang out with. Definitely check out downstairs. Everybody knows each other and most times if they don't know you, they will make a point to at least speak if not make new friends! Love this place!!

We had heard a lot of good things about The Rib Cage and my wife loves ribs so we thought we'd give these a go last Saturday. We went in around 1:30 pm and promptly found a seat, although we had to wait on our to be cleaned, even though they were not very busy. Service was very prompt and we placed our order for 2 slabs. Wife was somewhat perturbed that fries are not on the menu, but we ordered the half baked potato . The meal arrived quickly but at $22 bucks a plate, the food was crammed on a Styrofoam plate, sides in small plastic containers and toasted bread lying atop the meal. The ribs had a wonderful flavor but the membrane had not been removed from the back of the ribs causing them to be rather chewy, defiantly not falling off the bone as other reviewers have stated in their reviews. The beans were delicious although rather sparse as was the slaw. Maybe we visited on a day where the cook missed pulling the membrane on a few slabs, but the meal we were served was not one that would cause us to recommend The Rib Cage as a must eat in Oxford.

Very good barbecue right off the square. The service was friendly, focused, efficient, and prompt. I didn't try the ribs, but the barbecue sandwiches were excellent. The atmosphere was bar-like, spacious, and comfortable, with several TV screens, which were, of course, showing college football games as Oxford is a college sports town and it was a Saturday in the fall. The also had free Wifi, which worked well for me.

decent atmosphere, and tv's to watch games.. but i've tried many different things, and never been impressed with the food. the barbecue is dry and flavorless consistently.. ribs are decent at best. people rave about the bbq quesadilla but i just don't like it. however, if you're about to start, or in the middle of, a boozy day/night in oxford, do yourself a favor and visit the bar downstairs for a 'sunkist' shot.

First let me say the staff was very attentive and helpful. The food was delivered quickly and presentation wise, the food looked great. The Ribcage is more of a college bar than a traditional smokehouse BBQ joint. The only beer on tap was Coors and once I learned that I immediately felt regret for staying to order. That was my first clue I was in nothing more than a "college bar". For lunch I told the waitress I was hungry for ribs and chicken wings, so she ordered me a combo platter. It came with coleslaw, half a baked or smoked potato, baked beans, and garlic bread. The ribs were baby backs and dry rubbed Memphis style. However, they really didn't taste that great. They were okay but not great. I think there were four or five bones. The chicken wings were okay as well. They were grilled or smoked then covered in BBQ sauce. Maybe 6 wings total, two of which were very burnt. Again, they were okay but not great. The potato came dry, no butter, no sour cream. Kind of dry and weird. The slaw was good, slightly above average and the baked beans were superb. I very much liked the beans. They tasted great and were chock full of pork. The garlic bread was above average as well. With all the interesting places in Oxford, I was mildly disappointed in my selection, however they do have a full bar and many other items on the menu to choose from. If I were a student I could see myself hanging out here drinking draft Coors and watching the game. However as a business traveler looking for interesting, "local" fare I would likely avoid this place in the future.

We ate here on our first time in Oxford. They have great Memphis style ribs (dry rub). The BBQ quesadilla was delicious and unique. The atmosphere was typical college town BBQ place - casual. I would probably give it 3.5 stars, it was very good and I would eat there again, but it wouldn't rock your world.

It's all about the quesadillas as weird as that sounds. The BBQ quesadilla is so so good. The sauce that they use isn't my favorite, but it does the job. If I was rating this place based on its meat and sauce alone, it would be a 2. The quesadilla is the only thing I trust there, but it is that good.

Really dry tenderloin. Good beans, ribs and slaw. Great pulled pork and potato salad. If I lived here, this would be in the rotation for the pulled pork and potato salad.

Was a quiet Monday evening. Seemed like what we were served was weekend left overs. The ribs lacked flavor, half potato was overcooked and the tenderloin was so so. Beer and beans were the bright spot.
