Louisiana Rub Down

Reviews:
The pulled pork bbq sandwich was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! The juiciness of the meat is unparalleled to any other bbq joint in town (and we have tried them all)! The meat has a smokey flavor and pairs really well with the slaw on the sandwich. To finish off the meal, the bread pudding knocked it out of the park!
The pulled pork at Louisiana Rub Down is fantastic. So juicy, with a smoke ring in some places, the pulled pork nearly melts in your mouth. Hands down better than Lamar Lounge or Bub's BBQ. Seriously it is delicious even without the sauce. As for the sauce, it is the perfect combination of sweet, tangy, and smokey. Personally, I prefer vinegar base North Carolina Pulled pork--but Louisiana Rub Down pulled pork has me hooked!! I can't wait to dive into the poboys and ribs, next.

Ibby and Wiley catered my daughter's wedding in July of 2010 and it was the most wonderful and fun experience, working with them. They are lovely and smart people and Ibby's creative vision and business sense matched with Wiley's pure talent as a chef, makes this a match hard to beat. We wanted a Southern cuisine and boy, did we get it. Our New York friends FLIPPED at the food and the service and cost were extremely fair and perfect. I heartily recommend Party Waitin to happen for any event in the Oxford area.

Decent service. Not the best but the food makes up for that! Burgers actually taste fresh.

Wow!! This place really lived up to the hype. Got a full slab of memphis-style dry rub ribs, truly a work of art. Perfect balance of dry and smoky but moist and juicy at the same time. Top notch seasoning. This man is a true master of his craft. You can tell how the owner placed in the top 20 in Memphis in May rib competition (basically the world championship for ribs). We also got the tamales which were pretty good but the ribs are truly the star here. Come see for yourself, you wont be disappointed. Best ribs I have ever had.
I'm visiting Mississippi from Florida and I just happened to drive by this enchantingly cute restaurant. However the food is NOT cute, it's bad ass! I got the Memphis dry-rub ribs, potato salad, and cole slaw to go. My main complaint, typically, is that the ribs and slaw are too sweet. I hate overly sweet ribs. Ugh. Not the case here at all! The ribs were savory and just the faintest bit of sweetness. They were tender, juicy, and deeelicious. I wish they had been just a tad spicier, but that's a personal preference. The potato salad didn't have mustard, or if it did I couldn't tell. Personally, I don't like mustard in my potato salad so this was great. Thumbs up. The cole slaw was perfect, not too sweet, fresh ingredients, not overwhelmed with any one ingredient - perfect balance of flavor. Even though it was a to-go order, things were packaged well and the ribs kept in foil so they remained juicy and warm. The server at the register who took my order was very helpful and gorgeous - just saying. I will absolutely be returning on my next trip! I highly recommend it.
Like Brandi N. said, its FINGER LICKIN' GOOD! Came here for an early dinner the other day, and I'm so glad we did!! Had the pulled pork bbq sandwich with coleslaw and potato salad, while the bf had 1/2 rack of ribs and an order of tamales. The sandwich was good, but the ribs were great! Seriously, I think I prefer these ribs over Central BBQ in memphis. The tamales were kind of pricy, but if you're craving them... go for it! We especially loved that the owner walked around and made sure that all of his patrons were enjoying their meals -- not something to overlook! This location seems to be cursed (I can think of at least 4 businesses in this spot over the past couple of years), so I really hope that this business sticks around!! Will be back soon!

The pizza here is AMAZING. After a long day of traveling, my mom and I ordered a pizza to take back to the hotel. First off, the people there were so nice and went above and beyond getting us plates, silverware, and napkins to take back with us. Second, the pizza was one of the best I've ever had. The garlicky sauce makes the pizza. The crust also has great flavor! I wish I lived in Oxford just for the fact that I'll be craving this pizza in the future. Definitely make a stop here!
FANTASTIC! Pretty much explains my whole experience. Walked in for the first time and was greeted by the staff and told about all the options we had to order, and there is a very good selection here. Everything is fresh, cooked as you come in and the staff will even package your leftovers for you no problem. The atmosphere is very homey too, had a great time looking around at all the memorabilia. Definitely will be coming back in the near future and actually wish I would've found this place so much sooner! Posting this 2 days after eating there because we ordered a little too much!
This place is never disappointing. Pizza is supper yummy! Friendly service that makes you feel like family. There is just something about NY style pizza, and this place is better than any chain pizza place you will go to! Give it a try!

Jinsei

713 North Lamar Blvd
Oxford, 38655
Reviews:
Jinsei is easily one of the best restaurants in Oxford and you're definitely going to pay premium prices for it. Fresh fish is flown in and you won't find any imitation crab here. You will not find sushi quite like this anywhere else in Oxford let alone Mississippi. Selections are all unique and a fresh take from the traditional items normally found at regular restaurants. The Kadoma Tuna and Tempura Green Beans are appetizers that should not be missed and the Red Dragon roll is wonderful and fresh dish for dinner. The restaurant is designed to be a place where a group orders a bunch of different things and everyone shares... a good route to try because you will want to try everything. Also, the cocktail menu is spectacular and all of the drinks are made to perfection. They have homemade sweet and sour mix and the juleps are all wonderful as are the sake-ritas. Keep in mind Mojito Mondays and Wing Wednesdays (I've never had the wings but they are pretty great from what I've heard). Beware: once you eat this sushi all other Japanese restaurants will not be good anymore.
Jinsei is the newest sushi place that has opened in Oxford, MS, and I must say I am fairly impressed! The food is not bad. Having been born and raised on a tropical island, I know what fresh fish should taste like -- and I honestly think that the sushi here is the freshest we have had in town (hopefully this isn't because they just opened!! Hehe). The kodoma tuna and red dragon were delish, but the Atsui and jinsei special didn't impress me much at all. The drinks here are good too! Try the blackberry julep (you can thank me later hehe) The reason why I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because: 1. We only saw our server twice, for a total of maybe 1 minute (but... it was a Friday dinner crowd) 2. Tables are way too close together... I felt like I was basically rubbing elbows with strangers next to me 3. Music was impossibly loud. Not ideal for a date conversation All in all, not bad! Will give it another try soon :)
I was very excited to have finally found good sushi in Oxford! The bangkok roll and grilled edamame are a personal favorite! They have awesome drinks as well if your looking just to have an appetizer and drink at the bar (cucumber mojito is a must try). Love the ambiance of the restaurant too! Cant go wrong with a dinner here!

Wow! Wasn't expecting a 5-star Chinese restaurant in Oxford, MS! I've lived in many places all around the world and this strip mall joint ranks among the top Chinese restaurants. Mapo tofu is outstanding, but if it is your first visit I highly recommend the double pan fried noodles. Probably the best thing I've eaten in Oxford (Ajax catfish is a strong competitor). Go support this family! So yummy!
Great food and owners could not be nicer; been there twice now and the good was outstanding
Came back the other day to try the pho. Very disappointed. Noodles were not normal pho noodles -- these were extremely thick and not suitable for this type of dish. I was only given a few bean sprouts, literally 1 sprig of mint, no basil... no lemon... no hoison sauce. Definitely not pho. Broth was okay though! The picture provided definitely looks better than it tasted. Other friends have come on different occasions and have agreed, this is not good pho. Perhaps we are picky since we are used to authentic home-cooked pho... Service that night was slow (there were 4 other parties there). I think our entire dinner took close to 1.5 hours, only 20 minutes of which was eating.

Ravine

53 County Rd 321
Oxford, 38655
Reviews:
I have lived in Oxford since 2009 and have worked in the restaurant business for two years, but I had not been out to the Ravine until tonight. On the recommendation of a friend, I made the drive out of town to have my first meal at the Ravine. I can certainly say that I would have happily driven twice as far to enjoy the incredible dining experience I had. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and the staff were very welcoming and knowledgable. They started me off with a palate cleanser of fig with balsamic vinegar and goat cheese, which made me want a whole appetizer of it. Second course was a roasted local pepper bisque with a basil and goat cheese emulsion. One of the chefs was a friend through the restaurant scene so he treated me to a few small plates. Pimento cheese croquettes, fried okra, and calamari - all of which were prepared expertly. My main course was a Latin smoked pork shoulder with beans and fresh guacamole. The perfectly cooked pork fell apart with almost no effort. I ate as much as I could, but thanks to my generous friend in the kitchen, I ended up taking half of it home. Every aspect of this meal was executed with skill and professionalism. I highly recommend the Ravine, and I plan on visiting again very soon.
I had no idea this part of Oxford even existed. This place is hard to find. I drove past it three times as their sign is tiny and isn't well lit. The French onion soup was very rich, in a good way. Striped bass and crawfish etouffe was flavorful. The bass was better than the etouffe. It was under seasoned and watery. Overall I'd say this place is worth a visit. It's a tad over-priced but certainly not by much. It's definitely better than that junk John Currence is schlepping out on the square.
Hands down my favorite fine dining restaurant in town. The best place to get a seafood dish- always cooked to perfection- anything from oysters to rainbow trout. The soup though. It doesn't matter what kind of soup it is, get it. Even if you're not sure how it's going to turn out- get it! Also, excellent wine selection. Laid back, cozy, fine dining experience. Really pleasant and romantic without feeling uptight. You can relax and enjoy a nice evening of dinner without worrying about running into a million people in town. One of the best kept secrets of Oxford. Do yourself a favor and go.
