Work brought me to Jackson MS. Decided to venture out for dinner and was looking for a good burger. This place is another whole in the wall. What a find. YELP was spot on. Had the super burger with hand cut fries seasoned with lemon pepper, house special. Yum Yes I went for the regular 14 oz burger. The flavor was great and the hand cut fries with lemon pepper was perfect. The staff was polite and very knowledgable about menu I give this place 2 thumbs up. Defiantly a must try!

Ditto to everything that everyone else who gave it 5 stars said! Yes, it's in a bad part of town. Yes, you should definitely call ahead. Yes, it's the best tasting burgers we've ever had and yes, you won't get a better value (taste and quantity of foot to price) for a burger ANYWHERE, ever! Add to that, the fact that our order (a very complicated one) was 100% correct and the service was very good. The people were friendly and efficient. One more thought... I had the turkey burger with mushroom and Swiss and it was so excellently prepared, I couldn't tell the difference between it and my husbands beef burger.

Best Burgers Ever!!! Best Jackson Location to make for an exciting adventure to the most unlikely place to get the most surprising delicious burger EVER!! In an old house in the middle of the hood but all part of the Stamps experience! Highly recommend!!

This is legit burger heaven! Yes, the 'hood is sketch and the building is way past it's prime, but the burger is totally worth it. So juicy, so delicious, so...perfect! The small (8oz) burger with fresh cut fries is plenty to eat! Not sure how anyone could possibly tackle the BIG 14oz burger, but good luck trying! If only they had a comfortable place to sit down and enjoy this burger extraordinaire (inside, or out), I'd give them six stars!

My God. That's a giant hamburger. The hamburgers at Stamps are super-deluxe. You can add whatever toppings you like. Mushrooms, chili beans, etc. They use a lot of beef. Seriously. I usually take four bites out of the burger and save the rest for later. Food for a week. It's no wonder they took forever to cook. Last time I went, it took two hours. Which was sort of annoying. Make sure to call in your order before coming in and don't forget your fries! They use lemon-salt. Yummers.

My little brother and I pulled up late on a Thursday night in a moving truck, disheveled and starving, as we made one of our last stops on a cross-country trip from Phoenix to Atlanta. We stormed the door only to see that the "Open" sign was off and they were in the middle of closing the modest store, sweeping the floors, restocking the fridge, and cleaning the grill. The Stamps folks invited us in without hesitation, gave us a brief run down on their history and process and thanked us repeatedly for stopping in. You'd think we were their only customers. We weren't. As we waited the ~10 minutes for our 14 oz. Superburgers to be cooked fresh, at least half a dozen people rolled in to pick up the takeout orders they had called in. Most of them were greeted by name, but not with any kind of treatment which was withheld from us. We, too, belonged. We wanted to get out of their hair after making a post-close drop-in and, back in the moving truck, we marveled at the gargantuan frames of our Superburgers. To be clear, 14 oz. is nearly a pound; you may not put that together if you're three-quarters through a 1900-mile move. Both of us give two thumbs up and a heartfelt nod to the lemon pepper-seasoned and Cajun-seasoned Superburgers now in our intestines, even if we came well shy of conquering the plentiful patties. You'll want to stamp this one down in your Yelp passport; don't skip it.

The Stamps Superburger must be seasoned with magic dust because it is the very best hamburger I've ever eaten in my life. Plain simple goodness -- HUGE beef patty on toasted bun, chopped iceberg lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mayo and mustard. How can they make something so simple so good? The simple fact that this is a well loved family business passed down from the generation prior. The owners care about the quality of their product and the customers I met on my visit truly appreciate the owners. All of that good karma soaks into the food and your experience eating it. When you are in Jackson, don't dare pass up the opportunity to enjoy Stamps.

I had really high hopes and expected to be amazed after reading the numerous positive reviews on the establishment.....cant really say I was. The burger was okay. Yes, it was HUGE, but I expected better seasoning. I also tried the lemon pepper fries.....MEH. I've had better burgers and fries for half the price. My lady didn't really enjoy it either. Don't think I'll be visiting this place again if I'm in the Jackson area.

Great burgers. Very good fries. 4 1/2 stars. 'Nuff said.

This place is amazing...a hole in the wall for sure, but enormous and delicious burgers. They make everything fresh as it is ordered so definitely call ahead to avoid a 20 minute or more wait. Big burger, dripping with melted cheese, thick bacon...If you love burgers, you have to try this!

Food was the shyt, good Ole greasy , seasons to live in your mouth hours after eating my type of meal. Yum yum....

Yeah, it's a sketchy neighborhood. (We took a wrong turn and ended up on Hooker Avenue. Nice.) Yeah, there's barely any place to sit so I wouldn't recommend eating in. Yeah, it takes them at least 20 minutes to fill your order, so call ahead if you can. It's definitely more of a take out place. But there's a reason it takes that long to cook these burgers. Those Superburgers are thick and delicious--and huge, see my pic--you can't cook that in 5 minutes. The burgers were great. Truly one of the best burgers we've ever had. I can't believe I ate the whole thing, but I couldn't help it. If you're not super hungry or not a big eater get the regular size. The "small" fries were huge as well and come with a choice of seasonings. They were cut fresh, but a little soggy. I also had some rings which were forgettable, skip 'em--the burgers are the stars here and man, they are indeed super burgers!

  • Rebecca C.

Working at the local university afforded me the privilege to be able to be near this place, for a quick lunch. I usually went here when I was extremely hungry, as I knew that the meal was going to definitely feel me up. The burgers are huge and I pretty much order the turkey burger often. The small burger is still a beast! I love, love, love the lemon pepper fries!

When I used to live here I would get my burgers from here rather than fast food joints. They are known for their thick big juicy super burgers and they are true to what they are known for. I just ate half of a hamburger from here with the fries. They both were head on good!!! The burger was not only juicy, but well seasoned and had a lot of flavor added to it. It doesn't taste like a frozen type of patty you'd get from Mickey D's. It was much more than that, it was ground chuck or beef (same thing?) and prepared homemade nothing placed in the microwave. The location may be in the hood, but seriously where else could you get good home cooking if its not located in the hood. That's just an area and the area doesn't define the food. Just because the area doesn't look appealing doesn't mean the food isn't yummy.

  • Bryan L.

Superburgers weigh in at about a buck-fiddy!! I stopped in while traveling and tried a Superburger. It was just as sinful and messy as I could have hoped! It took probably 20 minutes to get my burger and they forgot my bacon, but they gave me friens for free-fifty so I was still happy! It's definitely a MUST TRY!!!

  • Preston M.

A Jackson staple. These burgers are the best overall burger in the area for the taste, size, and price. And honestly, after having a burger here not too long ago, I'm very close to saying it's beyond Parlor Market as the tastiest Jackson area burger. And it's definitely better than both Cool Al's and Burgers & Blues, which are related "family" establishments. The burgers are huge and sloppy and come well done. The decor and location of course aren't its strong suit, but no one comes to Stamps for anything except an amazing burger.

    (5)
  • Ieisha E.

So good. This place is in the hood and not too pleasant in the inside but do not underestimate the burgers. They taste a bit simular to Five Guys but better. This place is the original. The burgers are beyond excellent!

  • Duan C.

Can't lie, the Dalton location is in the hood (Washington Addition) but this location is the original location. Home base, this is where the legendary Stamps got started. Phil is one of the many Stamp Children that run the place, took Music Appreciation with Phil @ Jackson State, he is real good people. It does take a while for them to fix your burger, but it is worth it - because that is love in soul going into that gut buster they are fixin' for ya! Try and call ahead, never try and do call in's during the weekdays between 10:30am and 1:30pm - the lunch crowd is rough. If you want a burger I suggest try after 3pm, the wait is not that bad and plus your chances of calling it in and picking it up are pretty good. This is the same place Cool Al got his start, so now you know! If you out that way, give Phil @ Stamps a holla and get a Stamp Burger!

Visiting Jackson, MS and everyone recommended Stamps. So we turned on the GPS and headed out. My husband says this is the best burger he's ever had...including FiveGuys! Says he had an explosion of flavor in his mouth! We shared a Jr Burger. I can guarantee another visit before we head home! Seems to be in a shady area but we went during the lunch period...so it was all good.

Very good burger. Wife and I had bacon cheeseburgers. Oddly, I think our bacon was turkey. People were nice, service was quick, prices are awesome, floor was extra greasy (think skating across the floor, instead of walking). I would go back when in the area. In my top 5 best burgers that I have purchased in my life, anywhere!

On our way from from a trip to Destin, Florida, we made a little side trip to Stamps Superburger. Like others have noted .... the location is in the 'hood'. We stopped in around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, so we were able to order fairly quickly. It took about fifteen minutes or so to get our burgers and fries. You have you choice of a few different seasonings for your hamburger. We picked the regular seasoning salt one ... I think they used a "Tones" seasoning mix. Anyway ... we didn't stay at the location to eat as we were needing to continue our trip back home. The burgers were LARGE and nice and juicy. Delicious and cooked perfectly .... which could have been tricky with a burger that thick. I'm assuming they use something like an 80/20 hamburger grind. Although the food was worthy of five stars as hamburger joints go, I have to discount it at least one for the location.

A LOCAL LEGEND WORTHY OF THE STATUS... I have been in the Jackson area for over 4 years now and have continuously heard of a place that serves some of the best burgers in town. I finally decided to check out Stamps and see what all the fuss was about. I must say that I am mad at myself for taking so long for this experience. The turkey burger I ordered was simply amazing. The seasoning (honestly hit and miss in spots) was phenomenal when it was on. I did have a couple of spots with excessive salt/pepper, but that is acceptable to me for a "homemade" burger patty. Like several other reviews mentioned, be prepared for the portion sizes. This was the largest burger I have ever had the pleasure of consuming. It and a good raspberry tea put me down for the count. The portion sizes are phenomenal for the price. I didn't experience the long wait times I have been hearing about. I only had to wait 10 minutes and I did not call in the order before hand. Guess I just got lucky and caught a lull period.

Best burger I've ever had in the World! The area it's in is all part of the greatest burger find ever!! I never take the time to do these reviews, but I absolutely have to recommend these burgers! Myself and another Corporate Pilot flew into Jackson from Van Nuys, Ca, found Stamps on-line and we took off our uniform accessories and mobbed thru the hood in black slacks and white shirts looking like two white morman missionaries (looking back) and were greeted with open arms! They just closed and were cleaning the grill, but they saw we were hungry and hooked us up anyways. I'm sooooo glad they did because I knew when we walked in the burgers would be great. I can't ever look at the average burger the same again. Seasoning were Awesome! So much flavor packed into them! A must eat!

This place is a legend in my city! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I usually get the Turkey burger. Also if you don't want to go to this part of town then go to Cool Al's at 4654 McWillie Drive off of Northside Drive. I recently got a "Inside Burger" and it was A+. It's a burger with the ingredients cooked on the inside, for example bacon and cheese in the center of the burger. I've had it at other places but it was better at Cool Al's (Stamps of North Jackson).

Giant, juicy, kind of greasy, but who can beat this for around $4? Comes wrapped in foil which is great because it just traps all the drippings. This was recommend to my friends and I by a local and we were glad to have eaten these scrumptious things! I don't know what the actual place looks like because we had a big group so someone just ordered take-out for us.

  • Mark R.

OK. We didn't eat here. We were a little too scared to stop for the 15 minutes it was reported to take to eat there. If we had seen other cars in front of the place or if it had not been just my wife and I, we would have stopped.

the first time i came here was with my boyfriend. we decided to check this place out since i heard from the grapevine that this was "the place" to get a good juicy thick burger. We made our way into the neighborhood, and it looked really really ghetto. it was kind of scary since we were driving at night and we figured we made a wrong turn, but soon after we saw the legendary stamps burger sign. I was really hesitant to go in at first but I figured if i die, I wanted to die full. We head in, and ordered 2 stamps cheeseburgers and large cajun fries to share between me and him. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get our food... they make your hamburger after you order. Oh man! This burger was definitely worth 20 minutes. i was in loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. the burgers was sooo juicy and big and flavorful, there was so much meat!! I loved it! It was so big I couldn't finish it in one sitting. The large fries were also a lot for 2 people to share. The price wasn't as expensive as you would think. I believe mcDonalds is slightly more pricier than the cost of a stamps burger. I TOTALLY recommend this place to anyone that wants a good burger... it puts in-n-out to shame.

The burgers are the best in the Jackson Metro area. Hands down. I have been a fan of Stamps burgers since 1992. The Stamps family (specifically the mother, father, Al, and Phil) have always been kind. Don't complain about the area. The surrounding community including the students of Jackson State have patronized this establishment for years. If you cannot accept the location, then don't come.

Good huge, cheap burgers. Best for: takeout, takes forever to get your burger if you go there (about 30 min to an hour). Sizes: crumbsnatcher (5oz), bigger, biggest (can't really remember but they are big). if you are a chick, the crumbsnatcher is just right and runs about 4 or 5$. Tons of vegetarian options available! Great sides, love the fried homemade chips (sweet potato and regular) with sea salt. Good fries too. This place is evil, but I love it. Prolly the best restaurant in Jackson, besides walker's.

  • Craig T.

This is seriously the best burger I have had anywhere. I don't know what Mr. Stamps does to these burgers, but it is the burger equivalent of crack. Don't be in a hurry to get your burger because they don't come out very fast, but it is worth the wait. Also, the fries with lemon-pepper are the perfect accompaniment for the delicious burger.

Visiting Jackson and my son says we have to eat at this burger Place.. This place is off the hook, My husband is the hardest food critic ever but he LOVED the burger.. We had the regular one and I had the small Turkey and it was un believable delicious.. I would so recommend this place to any who visits Jackson.. We ordered out but I guess that is what it makes its... From Califonia to Missisppi you must try this place, Cant wait to go back.

Oh man this was delicious. I had a double bacon cheeseburger, and I'm stuffed. It was so greasy, the bottom bun was all moist and slippery by the time we got back home (20 minutes). We met the owner while we were there, and everyone was very friendly. I reckon they're all good people. This place is in a fairly ghetto part of town, but don't let that scare you. We went at night and they left the door locked until people were coming in or leaving. I didn't really see anywhere where you could sit down and eat (there weren't any tables). You can also get any of the wing seasonings on your french fries. We had the cajun and it was very nom.

Ok, so this summer we were traveling back home (Fort Worth, TX) from Gulf Shores, AL and on our way we stopped for lunch in Jackson, MS. My wife and I were craving burgers so I got on Yelp and found a place not too far off the interstate for us to check out. When we headed in the neighborhood we were curious about the "sketchy" area we were in. We went ahead and headed into this shack with no AC and not really anywhere to sit except for a bar type seating area. So me, my wife and my 2.5 yr old waltzed right in there and quickly realized this place doesnt see many white folks! ;o) Which to me meant we were in the right place, and we were in store for a great burger! Boy was I right, the Superburger was the biggest, greasiest and TASTIEST burger I have ever eaten. The joint has a great family history and we were fortunate enough to talk to two of the brothers that owned the place while we were there. They were the nicest people, and it was so interesting to hear the history of the place. This is the BEST burger I have ever eaten. If you're ever in Jackson, MS go there. I promise you wont be sorry!!!

Stamps is pretty legit. Totally ghetto location, hot as hell inside you feel like you can't breath. But the burger and the experience is all worth sweating while eating. My soda was half warm by the time I started to drink it. Anyway, it's a big burger cooked right on a huge grill, and the owner just sat down and hung out for awhile. It was so loud inside because of a huge fan that we could barely understand what he was saying but we had some laughs and took off. A must see place, don't pass it as i'm sure no one can believe that this place even serves food.

Definitely was a little worried riding my motorcycle into this part of town and leaving it outside at first, and almost turned around. Glad I didn't! Got the Super Deluxe Double Cheeseburger with everything but Tomatoes, and I finished it! I am not from Jackson but if I am ever back in the area I know where I am going. I would have to say hands down the best burger I have ever had, from the most surprising location. Definitely check out Stamps if you are in the area!

WARNING: Do not plan on doing anything physical or productive for at least three hours after you mow down a Stamps Superburger. If fact, plan on a Supernap immediately after. Seriously though, this place makes a killer burger. Made fresh to order with awesome topping combos and great fries. Bring a serious appetite and plan to meet your burger quota for the month. The have a restaurant in North Jackson called "Cool Al's" if you don't want to make the trek to the inner city.

Order your food and sit down for a while. I suggest you bring friends, because you have a wait ahead of you. Do NOT complain though - there is a reason. Everything they make is made from scratch and well worth the patience. If you look like a first timer, they will likely tell you to order the Jr Burger instead of the full blown burgers - the real deal is almost two meals and the JR's are still bigger than your average burger joint makes. ALSO! They've become vegetarian friendly over the years. Half of the menu is veggie and delicious. In fact, now that I think about it I might have to go there soon. The spices they cram in there are deeeelicious. If you ask for the fry seasoning, they hand it to you from the kitchen. It's labeled Ass. Shake that ass all over the fries for some salty goodness. :)

The burger is very good . Big and juicy . This is really just an order to pick up place but there is another location that has dine in called Cool Al's .

Found on Yelp, why not????? I have never been to Jackson, but if I happen to be in the area, I will make it a point to stop here! Thank goodness I got the "small" burger, it was huge (forgot to snap pic before eating) The best homemade burger that I have ever had!!!

I went with a co-worker for a Friday lunch. We work up the street at JSU, so it's not a problem to go, order, come back, then go get the food after a little while. I got the Stamps Burger w/cheese and some lemon pepper fries. The burger was INCREDIBLE. If you're into those little floppy fast food burgers this isn't for you, but if you're in the mood for a well-seasoned, utterly enormous burger cooked to order, then this is your spot. The fries didn't keep that well, but the burger would have been more than enough for an entire meal. This spot definitely goes into the heavy rotation.
