I think this place is great! A little on the pricey side, but it's seafood joint so it's to be expected. The crawfish rolls are basically crabmeat wontons so if you like those you'll love these. I had the shrimp tacos with gumbo as a side. Both were Sooo good! The tacos had all fresh ingredients: quality shrimp, guac, lettuce, tomatoes, and garnished with limes. Yum. My gumbo was AMAZING. I think I'll be here just ordering gumbo to go. It's hard to find good gumbo this far north(yes this is far). The catfish platter one of my friends had had a great taste but she stated that she wished it was fried a bit longer. Another friend, who I consider a seafood connoisseur had the seafood bucket and was surprisingly impressed with the taste, amount of food, and the amount of spice. Overall I would definite recommend this place

Stopped in on a freezing March afternoon during a visit to Mississippi. Location was clean and pretty big. We started off with the oysters which defenitely did not disappoint. They were fresh and tasty. The day prior we had some at Saltines which did not compare.....bland and yucky. Crab cakes were fresh and some of the best we've ever had. The shrimp tacos (no cheese for me) were fantastically tasty and fresh. Glad we found this place on Yelp, glad we stopped by. Waiter indicated they make everything fresh and from scratch. We were there by day, but it looks like it gets funky and fun at night.

I totally love this place. I can say this place turned me onto seafood, (not to say I didn't eat it before, but it was very rare that I ate seafood). I absolutely adore their islander charbroiled oysters !! (I get them everytime) Their lunch specials are actually specials. They have $8.95 lunch plates for each day. (Wish I could try them all ).

$20 for a dozen chargrilled oysters, especially when they sit too long in the warming lights, is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is a server who says that you ordered three dozen when you only ordered two. Food is okay. Service was just this side of being totally ignored. We never had our drinks refilled; in fact, we didn't even get *asked* if we wanted our drinks refilled. Obviously, this server was not focused on the job, and I get that. But the management needs to make sure that their servers not only show up for work but actually work. Sorry, Islander. This customer was not impressed.

Mixed review. I did the oysters on the half shell one evening and they were very good. I did the 'lunch' special recently, and it sucked. 1. Potato 'risotto' is a misnomer beyond explanation. Potato dice mash is NOT risotto. Don't try to jazz up your menu with semantic bullshit. It just makes you look like a douche. 2. A lunch special on a 7" shallow tin plate is not 'trendy'. It's just an obvious attempt to make a cheap lunch look bigger and I'm not out to eat lunch to try and be fooled by such bullshit as a dumb ass diet gimmick that never worked in the eighties, let alone now. 3. Chicken breast has no flavor of it's own. If you're not going to at least dress it up with some seasoning, what's the freaking point?! Long and short, skip the lunch. Good for oysters and beer, but I wouldn't count on anything else.

$50 at lunch for 2 people to eat Sysco sourced, farm raised "seafood". Sorry, but at this price point I expect better food, a clean restaurant, and non room-temperature oysters. Head to Saltine instead.

Not only is the food good, but they also play Bob Marley!!! This is like Jamaica in Jackson. I know it's a stretch but work with me. You'll need some money to eat here. It's not cheap.

I had a very good dinner here tonight, and can strongly recommend Islander Seafood. I was greeted warmly when I walked in by Tina, who continued the excellent standard of service throughout my meal. I enjoyed a half-dozen raw oysters, then had a salad with comeback dressing and a dozen grilled oysters as an an entree. I splurged on Key Lime pie as a dessert and was not disappointed here either. I am hoping to be back in Mississippi before too long, and if my travels take me through Jackson, I will happily come back to this restaurant.

I saw an article in Mississippi Magazine in which a reader had requested the recipe for the crab boil cheesecake. I had never heard of this restaurant before so I checked it out on Yelp! Those reviews mentioned a Jamaican atmosphere and Bob Marley music. We ate there last night. The food and service were good. We had crab cakes and shrimp/jalapeño rolls with cream cheese for appetizers, then our group had shrimp tacos, redfish tacos, mahi sandwich, and fried shrimp. Everything was good. The only disappointment was the ambiance. There was no Jamaican feel or Bob Marley--only '70s music in a too bright room. A little atmosphere adjustment would improve the dining experience. We got a brunch menu---we'll be back to try that (that's when they serve the crab boil cheesecake!)

I just noticed this restaurant has opened in the former Sportsman's Lounge and since I was starving on my way back to office, I whipped into the parking lot. White linen tables and a fresh clean decor definitely give the interior an upscale feel. Service staff was friendly and attentive. There were only a handful of patrons so it was very quiet other than some Jimmy Buffett music playing over the speakers at a very acceptable level. I ordered the hamburger Poboy which was very satisfying and the menu definitely had solid choices that deserved exploration. I believe this new venture will gain a audience in the evening with their bar and menu options.

What the h_ lol bugs in the drinks, where do they do that. Order drinks the first one was great but we were pleasantly surprised with the roach in the second one. Restaurant definitely needs exterminating.

The food was quite bland (shrimp tacos and lump crab salad). Nothing special. Soup was Luke warm, almost cold. Service was pleasant, the restaurant's only redeeming quality. Definitely not worth the price.

The restaurant was fabulous it reminded me of Key West! The atmosphere was wonderful and service number 1!! The wine list was very good and I even ordered the dessert which I never do key lime pie. The raw oysters were fresh and tasted great!! I will recommend this restaurant to many people!! I have eaten all around this country and this rates right up there with the best!! Thank you!!

Had a craving for fried oysters. They were good... on the small side. Not greasy, which is a good thing.

Tried the Islander today and it was very good! The ambiance is tropical with bright walls and gorgeous artwork and good music. From the greeting at the front door to our server - everyone was very friendly and aimed to please. I had the Blackened Mahi Mahi Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries - both were very delicious (some of the best sweet potato fries I've ever had). My co-workers enjoyed the Roast Beef Sandwich and the Shrimp Po-Boy. Definitely a great place for lunch or dinner!

Good food. I had the seafood bucket. Crab legs and shrimp... Yum! Friendly people, even though they were understaffed and the service was a little slow. Still worth it.

Came here on a Sunday and was pretty impressed with the place, I wasn't expecting it to be so nice since it's in a strip mall. First off, I love the decor, very bright and tropical without being cliche. Lots of seating inside and a nice patio outside. Since it was Sunday it was pretty dead, besides the few of us drinking/eating at the bar. I had the fried oyster poboy and Tuna tar tar (which is like ceviche). Both were really tasty, though I wish they would have served the tuna with chips instead of bread. The bar tender was really nice and accommodating. They have a shuffle board table here which was a nice surprise. Some of the stuff seems a little pricey but I'd definitely go back.

Try the Mahi-Mahi Fish tacos ... my wife was drooling over them.

The Mahi sandwich was delicious. Definitely a wonderful flavor combination between the bun, fish, and slaw.

Had my Birthday dinner here last week with my family. Service was great & food was delicious! Crab cakes ... devine! I'm from the coast & this place took me back home. I'm so happy they are in the neighborhood now. Don't have to drive all the way to Pass Christian, MS when I want some good seafood cooking. I'll be a regular!

Their gator poboys are off the chain but you need to take out a loan to get one. I think they were like 17.95. Opps looks like they took them off the menu. Cost was probably the factor for that. The Crawfish rolls were actually kinda bland. No way near cajun in flavor. For 11.95 I would expect more. I also tried the Mahi tacos and they were bland as well and for 12 dollars for 3 of them??? Don't think I will be going back .Noted that their seafood bucket for two is 56 dollars? It includes shrimp , crab, corn and sausage with a couple of potatoes. What a bargain huh????
