Delicious food. Nice atmosphere. Great views. My husband and I like to eat here on dates and special occasions. They have great quality Italian dishes and friendly and attentive servers. Great place for a nicer dinner on the coast. They also have outdoor seating on the beautiful front porch with views of the gulf. We have also come several times with groups and have still received great service.

This is a great restaurant, casual lunches and brunches. Great also for a date night out. The food is superb, everything made from scratch. Personal recommendation, try the smoked salmon. It's in a few dishes but the quality and how it's prepared you will not find better on the coast. The staff is very friendly and Profesional, the owner was also hanging out making sure everyone was having a good time and everything was perfect.

I came here for lunch after my mom's successful surgery!! Yay! We started with the Arincini, so noms. Not overly fried and the duo of sauces complement it very well. Crisp outside, the risotto was cooked well and the cream cheese center was a perfect complement. They are large - baseball sized noms. I had the manicotti and it was very good. The exact representation of what I would expect when ordering it. The Caesar was very good. The dressing tasted freshly made and that was nice. Plenty of parking and friendly staff. I will return the next time I am in town to see my mom!

I freakin' love this place. It has a real nice setting, bomb a** food, and it has a good price list! I brought my friend with me to dinner here and it was her first time! Great service as always and it was just nice to dine in. It was raining really bad! And I believe it was the manager of the place that offered to walk me out to my car with an umbrella he brought out! That was really nice of him!! Thank you again if you're reading this!!! :) Hehehe

I was visiting the MS Coast the past ten days and dined at Salute twice. On both occasions I chose a lunch entree, but yesterday, Sunday, brunch service was available. On both visits, my waitress was Jo and she was pleasant. On my first visit I had the lunch eggplant parmigiana with pasta and marinara sauce and I thought it was awesome, but it was too much! The eggplant was breaded and fried perfectly and came out piping hot. For $7.99, i thought it was a great value. The pasta was al dente and the marinara sauce was the perfect lightness to the heavier eggplant. I also had a glass of Cella Lambrusco and it was so cold and perfect and hit the spot. I also had house bread which I believed to be sourdough and it was served with a creamy pesto. My lunch entree came with a salad, but honestly it was bland and I basically picked at it. I might should have had soup, but with it being so hot, I went with the salad. Not a bad meal for $16, tip included. On my second visit, I had the Cannelloni, but it was also brunch Sunday and they had $3 mimosas and champagne. I initially had been in the mood for breakfast (it was 11:00am) but I just went with lunch. I believe the brunch goes until 1pm ,but I am not sure exactly. Also, on Sundays Jo said the lunch portions were dinner portions and each item had gone up about $2-$3, accordingly. The cannelloni reminded me of a deconstructed lasagna and it was pretty good. I bit into a bayleaf inside one of my pasta tubes, so that was a little jarring, but I still enjoyed my meal. Perhaps the cook/chef just needs to be a little more exacting. All in all, I enjoyed both visits.

I was very dissapointed! My husband ordered a shrimp and crawfish rotini. I had a app. My app was luke warm. My husbands dish was cold so he sent it back. They warmed it in the microwave ( it never left the bowl). And it came out cold again. We sent it back again. It had NO flavor whatsoever, very bland and watery. We went to Winn-Dixie and got Stouffers frozen italian that tasted better than that!!!!

I was really impressed with the total experience this restraunt had to offer. They had a good variety of food to chose from, the pricing, the staff, the atmosphere in general was really nice and customer friendly. We celebrated a birthday party with approx 30 people. Service was incredible. We did not wait for food or drinks, all service was timely and friendly. You really get a fancy restraunt experience for an extremely affordable price. I would recommend this place for parties, special occasions, dinner with a date, dinner with friends.

I have had the pleasure of eating here several times. I do admit that early on this place struggled somewhat. I am happy to say that they have really put together a fine place to eat. I love the stuffed Amber Jack. The only problem with the bread that they bring is I tend to eat to much of it...LOL The food is priced reasonably and with the exception of one time, I have always had good service. The parking can sometimes be a challenge even though it is big. Be prepared to wait on sometimes but it is worth it. Happy dining!

We stopped because of the appeal from the outside and were not disappointed when we entered. Great atmosphere, upscale but not snoody. Sort of a new retro seventies meets Italian ambiance. I ordered the smoked salmon dip for an appetizer. It came with homemade crinkle cut potato chips, which were thick enough to dip with. Loved the salmon dip! Then I had the pecan crusted catfish almondine. Another winner, not the same old fried catfish that you can get at hundreds of southern restaurants. It came with a side order of angel hair pasta and your choice of sauces. I also had a tasty cocktail, but don't remember which one, just that it was blue. The prices were very reasonable for the selections. I highly reccommend Salute's and will return on my next visit to the Biloxi/Gulfport area.

This will be our 2nd time back to Salute, since its opening. It was packed since it was Sat. evening and V-day. Many ppl were waiting and heard it would be a 40 min. wait!! ECK!! So we walked up to the host to be put on the list, right away he said there was an opening at the bar, first come fist serve. "Sure!," we said. It was a tight squeeze but it was really nice to see out the window looking at the Gulf. We had the Toasted Raviolis (5+), Caprese Salad (4+ for me) (1+ for him, he is picky). Now my Filet Scampi; twin steak medallions with mushrooms and shrimp on top, also with some red potatoes(?)(5++++). It was so yummy, the Medallion once I placeed it in my mouth it melted. Ppl were asking what I was eating. His Veal Parmesan was much better then on opening day. (He gives it a 3+ b/c the pasta was not aldente but i think it is a 4+) For a packed house the services was fast and was never bored watching the bartenders running around. They were great! Great place to be proposed to also!! What a great night! Oh, the Tiramisu was great. Very fresh. Best we have tasted!

While the atmosphere is nice, the restaurant looks a little dated in certain places. It is a large restaurant and flows well. The food was ok italian. Nothing special. I ordered the cannelonni and the beef was definitely overcooked. Most people aren't too picky on the level of doneness of ground beef and neither am I, just being honest about the quality. The cesaer salad was typical, not great, not bad. I have no reason to go back.

I like Salute's. This is one occasion where I wish I could give 3.5 stars. They just don't make 4 because of their dinner menu prices. Enjoy lunch here and I bet you'll have a great experience. I usually stick to the Salute Supreme Pasta. The dinner menu is good, but I left feeling a little over-charged for what we ordered. The atmosphere is nice and the staff has always been very friendly.

Decent Italian place on the gulf coast. I had the seared tuna and caprese salad. The tuna was amazing, it was cooked perfectly and had a wonderful flavor. The caprese salad was different, I think the onions threw it off, it just did not have an Italian flavor to it. The bloody mary was great though, one of the best I have had.

Might be a good place to eat, but saw mice inside and will not go back even to drink at the bar.

We visited when Salute first opened a year ago and was less than impressed. No bread was served with the meal ( it's Italian come on!) they were out of several items and they had the worst crunchie noodles I have ever tasted! NOW, to correct all of that we stopped on by again last week, almost a year to the date from our first trip. They have improved on everything! There was bread and olive oil served right off the bat, had every item we wanted to order, service was SUPER the wait staff really knew what they were talking about. Good wine selection. Glad we gave them a second chance. I really enjoy Italian and glad to know there is a local place I can go and enjoy.

I love love love love Salute! Our server, Michael, is darling. But other than the fantastic service, the food was also very good. They give you pesto dip, and Jesus Christ, it's amazing; my mouth begins to water whenever I mention it. I got the Veggie Fettuccine and it was pretty good, I have had better, but it was still swallow-able. The berry cocktail was a mistake, but you may have a better experience at the bar. Overall, the place had a great vibe and fabulous food, definitely recommend!

Living in Italy for two and a half years, my Italian restaurant expectations are a little high so for me Salute was not that impressive food wise. The Caprese Salad was more lettuce focused then mozzarella. The honey basalmic house dressing was pretty good. The pizza was yummy, but the pasta I could've made better at home. It is a nice place to go for lunch I would say, but for a Valentine's dinner it wasn't a five star by any means.

  • Cole C.

Consistently good food, great mixed drinks, nice atmosphere and a decent wine list. Parking can be difficult due to the small lot and large number of patrons especially during dinner and happy hour. Service can be hit or miss. Sitting at the bar yielded the most attentive service in my experience and of course the view of the gulf from the bar doesn't hurt.

Initial service was great. Since it was Valentine's Day, I expected a little wait prior to being seated. Once we were seated, the waitress got our drink orders, food orders, bread, salad, etc., great!. After that the drinks ran dry, the visits were few and far between, and orders were forgotten. I understand the busy evening, being Valentines Day, but plans should have been made by management, and receptionists should know that 1 waitress has 5 tables full of customers while another has 1 full of customers. The Spagetti Bolognase was dry, the Blackened Seared Tuna was not so tasty. Some waitresses are at work to serve people and some are there only for the paycheck. I am a big tipper quite frequently when I feel I have received quality service. Last night was just the basic 18%.

Went for the first time this weekend. Our waitress was friendly but should have been more attentive, in my opinion. It seemed like she would disappear for spells at a time. On to the food, they have a fairly large menu. I chose a daily special of broiled red snapper topped with crab stuffing and shrimp and crawfish tails and my wife chose the lasagna. The fish was a large portion and was excellent, I had to push myself to finish it and my wife could not finish her dish. Her loss, my gain. The waitress suggested the lasagna to my wife. It was excellent. We did not have room for dessert, but we had a gift certificate so we took home the bread pudding and tiramisu. You could go there just for the tiramasu, wow. We will be going back for more. Forgot to mention the bread, yummy.

Went here for a birthday. I had the Grilled Stuffed Seafood Plate and it was perfect. They have good seafood cakes and give a great pesto for dipping the bread. There was 9 people in our group and everyone had a great time and was really happy with the food. The waitress was very friendly and helpful, just a little slow at times getting back to us. Will have to go back so i can try something new and try the dessert menu.

I can't say enough that this was an extremely disappointing night out. It had all the elements of a nice experience and missed the mark on almost everything. First of all if you lime Italian food, you WILL be depressed after tasting their attempt at it. Chicken Marsala is almost impossible to screw up. Not here. It was bland and oily! My husband got veal parmigiana and it was a brick of food. Our Caesar salads were lacking in Caesar. The dressing was hardly tossed into the salad and the lettuce was clean but not exactly dry. We sat outside as it was a beautiful night, but the service made the dining experience awful!! Our server was absent for much of the dinner to the point we stacked our plates on the floor as new food came to the table. There was no attempt to clear the plates. We didn't have salt, pepper, or silverware to eat with. I had to go inside to ask for our items and was told to go back outside and wait. Our evening was salvaged by two things. One, the bread and pesto. Two, the proposal next to us. Adorable! I think they were barely 18, but it was such a cute moment! I advise you to keep driving and try any other Italian place you can find. I'll cook for you if needed. Don't waste your time or your money! Cheers, and happy eating!

I have dined here several times for lunch and dinner. Service is not to bad although at times you have to ask where your server is. Food is good. Others might like it a lot more then I do simply because italian food is not a favorite of mine Did not care for under cooked fish one time. Prices are really good. I will go again. Olive Garden much better but good for locally owned.

A beautiful new Italian restaurant right on the coast in Gulfport. I was told that the building was formerly a hotel, it now consists of a restaurant and bar on the ground floor, with offices above. (3-4 floors total) Plenty of outdoor seating is available, offering a great view of the Gulf, though you are at ground level, next to busy Highway 90. The menu is extensive, and moderately priced. Entrees are between $12-$20. I had the chicken Marsala, while my wife had smoked salmon. My chicken was great, but my wife's salmon was incredible. Great dining without the pretentious atmosphere. I really enjoyed my meal here.

Years age, The first time I went I had the original version of paste bacilica. It had lobster and shrimp. I have had it many times since with scollops and shrimp which is ok--just not the same. My only complaint is that is served in enormous portions...far more than anyone needs to eat and I hate to take more doggie bags home to join the other bags in the fridge...great bread and pesto but we have stopped going just because of the portion size...that may not make sense but it is the sole reason

The food is excellent, but it's a little different if you're used to Olive Garden. Which is a good thing, in my book. Very fresh & well prepared. Great atmosphere & great service, prices are average. Accomodating for large parties. Wonderful place to dine. Local owners, so that's a big bonus.

We returned after 3 years out of state; better than ever! We have been there many times, have worked our way through most of the menu items. Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Consistently excellent food and service. Active full bar with microbrews, wines, and mixed drinks. Staff is friendly and helpful. One of our all time favorite restaurants. Generous servings. Menu prices: appetizers $4.95 - $8.95, entrees $7.95 - $22.95. Lunch Monday through Friday 11AM to 2PM, Dinner Monday through Thursday 5PM to 9PM, Friday and Saturday to 10PM. Sunday hours: Brunch 11AM to 2PM, dinner 5PM to 8PM.

I really like this place. I tried their lasagna and thought it was fantastic. The bartender/waiter was a hoot and really made the experience wonderful. The tiramisu was not as good as I have had before, it was too spongy. The restaurant is very classy and I enjoyed the ambiance. I would highly recommend it !

Good, consistent food, with large portions. Friendly service, with caring management. Prices on the low end of the Moderate scale. Nice Sunday Brunch. Of the 20 or so times I have dined here, only once were my expectations not immediately met.

I really enjoy Italian cuisine so this place is naturally a favorite of mine. The service can be iffy but the food and atmosphere are perfect! The staff creates a feel of commercialized restaurant - think Olive Garden. I've never felt like I was a very important customer. The food is all served by different people which creates a lack of connection with the wait staff. It seems like they are rushing you through your meal. However, the views of the gulf are remarkable and the food is reasonably priced. Overall I really enjoy this restaurant because I can look past the minor service flaws. I recommend the crab/corn bisque, pomegranate martini and the Rika-tini.

We rolled up in dis joint undercover...part of a large group of over 40. I like to do a review based on a visit like this, because you can put eyes on so many different dishes, and ask peeps how their food was, and get honest reviews. A fella next to me, we shall call him Nemo, ordered an appetizer that was the Tuna with some sort of terriaki sauce on it..turns out to be the Blackened Seared Tuna. Holy cow, this tuna was off the chains! Oh sorry, that means it was good, quite tasty. Anyways...Nemo ordered a Mojito from the bar, which he said was good. He offered me a taste but he is kind of a creepy fella and I don't want to drink after him. But I did sample his tuna. I am fully aware that sounded nasty and I kinda don't care right now. MOVING ON... He said his drink was awesome. Across from me were orders of some sort of pasta with seafood...turned out to be the Shrimp Mediterranean Pasta, which I heard was excellent. It came in a big bowl and looked like a great amount of food. Sure to send you heading to your nearest treadmill the day after. To burn the sin off. A couple orders of the Manicotti, which got the worst reviews of all. Let's talk about it. It looked like enchiladas! Bland and un-exciting were the comments on these. A chap to my right, Boogie, we'll call him, had the Spa & Meatballs. He was giggling with delight, saying it was the best he ever had. I, myself, dialed up the Seared Blackened Tuna, and I ordered it RARE. It came with pasta and I chose the marinara over the top of it. Wacky combo, I know, but I wanted to try it. The tuna was the best I have ever had, which isn't saying too much b/c I've only had it a few different places, on of them being off my grill. But the taste was excellent. The pasta was okay, nothing exciting there, and the marinara tasted fresh. Looking back, the Seared Blackened Tuna was the most popular item ordered out of our large group. Nobody had anything bad to say about it. The bread they set out is great, and the spinachy-looking stuff to dip it in is tasty as well. Myself and my lady friend are huge CARRABAS fans, and I am afraid this is as close as we are gonna get to it out here, so we will be back, probably to sample the steak or something. The prices were great, and for a large mob of hungry troublemakers, the service crew did a great job.

The food was good. The supreme pasta could have had much larger shellfish in it. The shrimp and crayfish were pretty small.

I would give this place negative stars if I possibly could. Our waitress mispronounced "minestrone." Tried to overlook that. They have pages of different martinis, so one would think they'd be proficient at making martinis. When the waitress asked my fiance' what type of gin he'd like, he asked what the well liquor was. This really confused her, as she replied, "Well." She actually thought that well liquor was a brand. OK, we try overlooking this. Then, THEN, she proudly puts his martini in front of him in a ROCKS GLASS with ICE IN IT. I swear to God. Now, granted, this actually was not her fault, as the bartender should have known (especially working at a restaurant where martinis are a specialty) how to serve a martini; but she is the last point of quality control. When asked why the martini was served on the rocks in a rocks glass, she replied,"Oh, well, the customers complain when we bring their drinks out in hot martini glasses, so this is how we serve them when the glasses are hot." I'm not kidding. So, we then had to explain to her, so she could explain to the bartender, how to chill a freaking glass. At this point I'm pretty peeved. Then I see her coming with our entree' salads. We had not been served our appetizers. She was bringing entree components before the freaking appetizer. This is when we just had to say no more. We asked for the check. The manager came out, apologized, tried to smooth over the situation; but he pretty much made it worse. His shirt was untucked, he was sweating, and his phone rang in the middle of our conversation. Never again.

I have been to this italian restaurant at least 30 times over the last 5 years or so. I have never gotten a bad meal even when crowded. I have experienced a few reluctant, pissy servers but that can happen anywhere. Salute is pretty darn good. Not a Vincent's or Sal and Judy's or a Lillo's but it's good. Nice atmosphere, good bar and great view of the Mississippi Sound. They give you bread and pesto while the olive oil and balsamic stays on the table. I think they realize if 25 year aged grape musk was set out then people like me would steal it. The tomato basil cream based soup is velvety and rich. They seem to serve alot of it. Salads are well presented with a marinated mixed bean as garnish. I like their honey balsamic dressing. I had another hankering for a pizza. They are not on the menu so you have to ask. I asked my server to get the kitchen to put me one together. They fixed me spinach, eggplant, and prosciutto... Nice balance but it could have used more tomato... cook's choice..wish I would have specified thin crust..I forgot...idiot.. The crust was soft, a tad bit thicker than brooklyn style. The tirramisu missed the mark. Tasty but at least a day old..too soggy. The cappuccino was excellent and served in a huge squat cup. I will go again.

This is one of my long-time fav's...The house salad is GREAT, but I ordered the CAPRESE SALAD on my last go just to change things up and I was SO glad I did. It's a little sad that a SALAD could make me THAT happy...being a meat eating Southerner and all, lol!...but let's move on, ahem... ;) Now I KNOW that there are a LOT of great things on this menu, but for the quality and price you CAN NOT BEAT their Filet Mignon...it. is. ridiculous. Go ahead and treat yourself to the MARINERS FILET...even if you want to put all the sauces on the side...just do it. You deserve it as aswsome as YOU are...then chase it with a chocolate bomb. God Bless America! :D

The three is because the flavor has fallen off. No more olive oil with the bread. The garlic has all but disappeared and my fra diavolo is severely lacking in red pepper flakes. Sad to say because this was my favorite Italian restaurant on the coast. I forgot to mention the veal and shrimp the spouse had. No flavor. Where the hell has the flavor gone? Oh wait. I know. To the reef. Check ALL your restaurants boys or you'll lose the locals. And we have contact with thousands of transients a year a recommend where to eat here on the coast

We were a party of 5 that visited this restaurant on a Saturday night around 7:30pm. We waited about 20-30 min. for our table. As we waited, we sat at the bar, Holly was very attentive and very nice. She made us feel very welcomed. After we were paged, we went to our table and our waitress was very nice. I ordered the veal and shrimp scampi. I found that the veal lacked seasoning, and the shrimp also could have been seasoned a tad more also. I chose to have the pasta with Alfredo sauce, which I found very good. I would visit this restaurant again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Hands down best restaurant in Gulfport. Came in town for business trip and I am so satisfied. Order the shrimp and grits/ I asked them to make it spicy and they complied. Ask for Rachael at the bar she makes a drink called "the fantastic". You'll be pleased. Can't wait to return!

Loved everything about this restaurant! The ambiance is perfect. The staff was very friendly. The menu has something for everyone! We had the fried ravioli appetizer and I had the shrimp and scallop diavolo and it was amazing! Serving sizes were generous. I would recommend to anyone who likes good quality food for really decent prices. Perfect for friends getting together or a romantic date night. My only suggestion would be to de-vein the shrimp that goes in the pasta. I will be back!!

Salute Italian Seafood Restaurant: Not what I would call a true Italian restaurant. My wife seem to enjoy her meal, but I had order the Pork chop dinner with garlic bread. I didn't get the bread and the pork chops were way under cook, NOT GOOD RAW PORK. The Veg side was cold so I ordered FF and still didn't get my gralic bread and my the time my fries made it out to our table they were COLD. Waiter staff was not that great and when the manger came to the table she offered to take the chopps off my tab, they still charged me for the cold fries........... not a good time.

Absolutely amazing smoked salmon! All the food was great from the appetizer bread and dip to the entree. Will definitely be back at every chance I get, I must try the entire menu!

  • R G.

Food was bland! Signature sauce was poured over EVERYTHING, and it's also bland! The crab cakes tasted like they'd been frozen. You would expect in a city that thrives on the seafood industry that a restaurant would serve FRESH seafood! All seafood that I ate tasted frozen. To top it off the owner was at the bar discussing business with someone else, and even discussed other restaurants that had gotten in trouble with the state board of health! I found this to be in such poor taste that I no longer wanted to write off my experience as a wrong entree choice. We will NOT be back.

We stopped for the night and decided since this place was next door we would eat there. Great decision. I had the catch of the day, Red fish, and my wife had one of the pasta dishes. Both were fantastic. Atmosphere and service were great and we left fat and happy.

We attended an off hours meal pre-dinner. The food was good and the service was a little off but considering the timing, it might have been our fault. One Note: The didn't have tiramisu when we ordered desert. We mentioned that you can't be a fine Italian Restaurant without tiramisu and the manager said: The Tiramisu was just that good. (Great Response) but still, you have to have Tiramisu.

Not only was the food great so was the service by Ashley. While we were eating, the manager also came around to greet us. The atmosphere is urban and the price point reasonable.

My family ate here for my mother's birthday. The food was GOOD, the alcohol was WOOOO! The people were soooo POLITE and nice omg it was GREAT! ..but then looked at my plate - dust. I looked up. Ceiling.. it had literally 1 inch of dust on it, everywhere, all places.. never seen such a thing in my whole life. the fans.. 1 inch of dust.. it should have been on Ripley's world record. i stopped eating after a wad of dust fell on my plate, my mom was wondering why i didnt eat, when we got outside i told her. if the ceiling has a 1inch coating of dust.. i wonder what goes on in the back.. Next time any of you people are in there.. look up, youll see what i mean, it should be a world record.. really.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Salute before now! This is one of my family's top 5 restaurants to eat at. I have eaten at Salute over a dozen times, my grandma knows most of the waiters by name, my aunt had her wedding reception up on the roof deck and anytime we're all in town - Salute is on our list to eat at. Some of my favorites: your must ask for the fried cheese appetizer, the bread and pesto they bring out are delicious, Lasagna, Shrimp & Grits, Chicken Salute Pasta and if you get a salad, you have to get their house balsamic dressing. Go early or make reservations on the weekend - it is a popular place!

What a disappointment!! My pasta was so spicy that I could not eat it. Nothing in the menu indicated a spicy dish. The waitress did not seemed concerned that I did not like my food. My money would have been better spent elsewhere! I will NOT be back.

What is a Olive Garden? Yeah ef that place because Salute is hauling a** on every known Italian restaurants I have ever been to. You ever shove so much food down your fat pipes that you almost hurl upon just getting out of your seat? I have no control eating here. It's wonderful.

Had catering for an event by Salute and the food was just okay... Not much to write home about. Marginal marinara sauce.. Would only eat here if it was a free meal.

I've been coming to Gulfport for work reasons since 2009. Salute was one of the few places open then. There're a lot more options now, but Salute is still one of my favorites. The food's consistently good. Not spectacular, and sometimes just competent, but I've never had a bad meal there. The service has always been terrific, and the bread is wonderful. The last two trips, I've had the catfish supreme (crispy golden catfish topped with seafood, accompanied by pasta) and the ribeye steak, which also was served with pasta. Surprisingly, for an Italian place, the pasta sauce was the weak point of both meals. The alfredo had no flavor, and the marinara needed some. But the quality of the fish and the skill with which it was fried made up for that. Likewise, the steak was tender and flavorful, although I wish they could get a better crust on it. Still, for a non-steakhouse, they did a good job. Salute's one of our favorite places to eat and drink when we're on the coast, and I'm sure we'll be back.

The food I received here was awful. Bad presentation (see pic) and bad taste. Tomato sauce did not taste fresh. I wanted to like it, too. I love Italian and I was famished. I ordered the Italian Sausage and pasta. I will NEVER go back here. To be fair my wife and the other couple said their food was good. Whoever designed the layout of the place is now sweeping floors somewhere. The first thing that greets you when you walk in is the equipment the waitresses use to wash dishes. Classy!

Last two times I have been here I was dissapointed. My favorite use to be the signature pasta which had a nice creamy alfredo served over penne, however in one of my recent visits they replaced the penne with spaghetti. It did not go with the thick sauce well at all! The noodles clumped with the alfredo and I was wishing for it to be like the first time I had it. I went today for dinner and ordered the steak tip Italian bread which advetised the steak tips as "charred over mozzarella covered bread" the steak tips were definatly NOT charred & the plate was so covered in sauce the bread was soggy halfway through. They use to be great? What happened? I don't think on this bad streak I had they are worth risking my money on a third try for something I could have made better at home.

considering the ominous lack of good italian food on the MS gulf coast, i finally surrendered and tried salute and pretty much got what i was expecting. the first thing i noticed was that my bread plate wasn't clean. now i'm not a stickler for stuff like this (i know it was just dishwasher residue) b/c it's something that easily slips by but that's not really how you want to start off. also, the plates were plastic. that's just kind of weak for an italian restaurant. you want to serve pasta on warm ceramic so it stays warm. i got the veal marsala b/c it looked like a pretty smokin' deal for a nice lunch at $9.95. it came with a soup or salad. the caesar salad wasn't bad at all - although it did have a ton of parmesan cheese on it (and it takes a lot of cheese to get me to point out excess). the romaine was fresh and crispy as could be. the veal marsala wasn't bad but it also wasn't phenomenal. i don't know why i always get it, expecting it to be something way more than it always is... this veal wasn't beaten thin enough and had too much breading on it, which i find to be the typical flaw in the veal side of the dish. the marsala sauce was a bit strange: it was kind of lumpy and gelatinous looking, making me think some type of thickening agent was added to make it thicken up. also, i could taste too much of the alcohol side of the wine in the sauce and in the mushrooms, which further adds to my suspicion of thickening. the wasn't given enough time to reduce correctly. the last thing i'll comment on was the bathroom. i went at lunch around 11:20am so i was one of the first seatings and the bathroom smelled like it was 10:30pm ending the night. in my opinion, this restaurant is FAR too large of a scale to serve upscale, fine italian food. this isn't fine dining when plates are plastic (and dirty, as opposed to glistening clean as if someone wiped them down after the dishwasher - which a fine dining restaurant requires), the bathroom is dirty, and some seats are empty. when you have to serve a larger number of people like that, the food quality suffers, among other things. they should close off part of the restaurant unless otherwise needed. there is no fire lit under me to return here. i'm very confident in my abilities to out-cook what i had today.

Salute has a really fun and modern vibe to it, something which I'm sad to say is lacking in a lot of Mississippi restaurants. But the first thing that struck me when I came inside was, "This place would make for a great date spot." I'm not really a fan of Italian food (I don't dislike it, but I almost never crave it), but after eating at the same places repeatedly these past few months, I wanted to try a new place. I ordered the lasagna. It was pretty good. The most amazing thing was the fresh tomatoes. I had to drive 15 miles to get to this place, but I would do it again.

OMG Sunday Brunch is off the chain! Delish Bloody Marys, Italian influenced uber rich shrimp & grits, and Italian eggs Benedict cooked perfectly.

Do you love the Olive Garden! Then you'll adore Salute...its basically expensive Olive Garden in a fancy building on the beach. Actually I'd probably rather go to Olive Garden as the bread is better. Also at the Olive garden you generally get a salad included with your meal. The waiter we had was extremely nice and kept our drinks full while flirting with Grandma in away that stole her heart. Oddly they are very adept at providing gluten free alternatives to most of their menu items. They also seem to have a buy one get one free punch card that you can buy at your church. In short I wouldn't go again on my own but when Grandpa and Grandma want to go there next visit I'll go as they seem to love it.

Great atmosphere, great drinks, decent food. Definitely not authentic Italian, but it's better than Olive Garden. Have only tried a few dishes on the menu, Traditional Spaghetti w/ meatballs and Balsamic Glazed Chicken Breast w/ seasoned Veggies, both were creations that could have been from my kitchen at home. Service was excellent however, so the night was overall a good one.

Didnt even get a chance to try the food, the bartender acted like a 14y/o gangster w horrible customer service! After waiting 20 min to try and order, I drank my skunky draft beer and finally was able to order my check without slapping this kid. 10minutes later he was reminded that I was still waiting for the check by me staring daggars at him. If you go, avoid the bar, and the draft beer

Great service but the food was just okay. Catch of the day was Mahi Mahi with a seafood cake on top and blackened crawfish. All was good but the seafood cake which was mostly breading and just gummed up the whole dish. The spinach/pesto dipping sauce the bread as an appetizer was fantastic!

Salute or Salute', however you want to say it, I think people say Salute' to try and church it up but it's Salute to me. So the food is just ok to me. When I got back to the Coast two years ago all I heard about was how wonderful this place was, meh, it's ok. I've been there twice and the pasta is DROWNING in sauce. Look, I've eaten pasta in Italy and you're supposed to taste the pasta. The sauces are so freaking rich it makes your teeth hurt and there's puddles and puddles of it. Lookout has curbed there over abundance of sauce, Salute needs to do the same. The last time I went with a group from work and out of 8 of us, four peoples food was wrong. Granted the waitress was very apologetic but for the prices you're paying for food the service should be top notch. I honestly believe if another place opened with the same type of menu they'd run Salute out of town, they're doing as well as they are because of a monopolized market.

Between the Yelp rating and the menu on the website, I was excited for my visit to Salute. We stopped in on a Monday evening at about 7:00pm and were seated immediately. I'd describe the interior, but it was pretty dark and I have no idea how to describe the interior. One of the things that excited me on the menu was arancini. I love it and don't see it often enough on Italian menus. I ordered as my appetizer and was delighted to see three large arancini delivered to the table with marinara and alfredo sauces. I eagerly cut into one, only to find that the cheese was still solid in the center. Boo. On the upside, the marinara was very tasty. Right around the same time, we got an order of complimentary bread with a nice pesto for diping. For my entree, I ordered Chicken Salute and asked them to hold the mushrooms. My co-worker ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. Our food arrived fairly quickly and we eagerly dug in. The food tasted good, but I soon noticed that there were mushrooms in my dish. I am not allergic to mushrooms, just not very fond of them. When I notified the waitress she stated that she was sorry. I asked her to let the kitchen know that they should be more careful as I could have had an allergy. I was very polite, but the waitress seemed to be rather indifferent. Food was decent, service was mediocre. The food seemed to be priced pretty fair. But I don't expect to return.

Visited this restaurant last year and really enjoyed eating here so in March when family were in town took ten there and we were really embarrassed as the salad was so limp and looked like it was really to go straight to the trash can. Had another visit a couple of weeks ago on a slack Sunday, not many people in the restaurant! Will not be visiting as believe that the food was pre-cooked and reheated and the meal that one of our party had tasted off so she left most of it and went instead for a desert. The waitress was very good and didn't argue when we reported the problem with the food. The meal eas taken off of the final check but this has spoilt the venue for us

Ive been here maybe 5 times.I found it by accident as I was trying to find sonewhere on the coast to have brunch. I've only ever been for Sunday brunch. Great mimosas, eggs benidict was lovely aswell as their pastas and pancake dishes. I have been here with my dad who is on a low sodium diet and usually the waitress asks the chef what he can do low sodium. Usually he gets a redfish dish or something that the waiter makes sure isn't salted. Last time they said the only thing they could do low sodium would be a green salad. Which sucked by the way! I guess they just couldn't be bothered. I actually like this place but I found that disappointing. The food here is good. The waiting staff are pleasant. They have tvs around for you to watch the game and the location is good across from the beach.

Salute is a place we've gone back to about 4 times so far. Clean, modern, and great looking decor. We've had a few different dishes there but seem to gravitate to the Eggplant Gondola. That dish never dissapooints! We like to go to brunch because of the great prices, the lively atmosphere, and the good spread available on the brunch menu. We'll be coming back again and again.

Disappointing. Mediterranean Pasta dish was salty, had canned button mushrooms, and the pasta (thin spaghetti--not angel hair, as advertised) was overdone. Eggplant Vegetable Pasta dish pasta was also overdone, but the worst part was the frozen vegetable mix of mostly broccoli stems. Chicken Alfredo dish was reportedly delicious, though. Two others in our party ordered pizza, which was reportedly ruined by the doughy crust. None of us could believe this place gets such rave reviews. The service was good, although our server didn't tell us or another table the specials, but did mention them to a third table. The prices are reasonable, I suppose. I think first and foremost this restaurant needs to cut its menu items by 60%, then focus on perfecting 10% of the remaining dishes by making them spectacular and truly original.

We were on a shuttle bus at NOLA Jazzfest and chatting with some locals who highly recommended that we eat at Salute in Gulfport (we were staying there and in NOLA for the day). Our traveling companion from Richmond wanted to go to Pascal's Manale following the festival, but by the time we got back to our car we were too tired and dirty to go anywhere but back to Gulfport. Thanks to our friends Maurine & Robbie from the shuttle--the brunch at Salute was amazing. We arrived about 20 minutes before they officially opened, but the bartender who greeted me when I walked in was happy to bring us drinks and menus on the porch, overlooking a rather docile Gulf of Mexico. couldn't beat the view, and we were most happy with the award winning Hail Caesar Bloodys (only $3 at brunch). For the next hour, we were looked after by several members of the charming staff. I had Eggplant Gondola--2 thin crispy eggplant slices topped with crawfish and shrimp in a lightly creamy sauce w/ a side of pasta--delish! Hubby had an equally tasty dish with fresh tomato, basil, shrimp & scallops on angel hair pasta. Even though we eventually had to get back to Panama City, we couldn't pass up a second round of the Bloodys. We'll definitely be back, since we couldn't talk all these nice people into coming back to PC with us :)

It has been a while since I stopped in at Salute and while my lunch review was not spectacular, tonight was one of my most enjoyable meals in a long time. With all the hustle and bustle of the new downtown area, Saulte has lost some of its shine as being one of the premier eateries on the Coast. Yet tonight, I unsuspectingly was reminded why Salute has been a cornerstone of upscale casual dining in the Biloxi/Gulfport area. Now I don't generally yelp about side salads, but the bleu cheese dressing & green salad (**** stare) was delicious. For My entree I had the crusted trout on a bed of rice with tomato basil shrimp sauce (***** stars) the four medallions of perfectly prepared trout on a bed of rice danced in my mouth. It has been a long time since I felt the need to come home and share with all our fellow yelpers the joy I had for dinner. Salute is back on one of my must eats when I am looking to feel more than just full!!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
