Steak Rancheros was great. Prompt service, great seasoning, smiles on faces, far superior compared to the other Mexican restaurants further up the road. Felt like I was back in San Diego. Thank you, Francis!

Passing through Gulfport from New Orleans and ate here for dinner. I went on Yelp for Mexican restaurants in the area and chose El Agave because of the positive reviews. Glad I did! Fajitas were great and loved the salsa! My server was very nice and I really enjoyed my experience. I can tell its a fun local place to eat. If I'm ever passing through town again I will be eating here!

The food is 4 stars, nothing special but not bad at all and the price is definitely right. The extra star comes from Cynthia our server. You know time is of the essence with $.99 cent margaritas. Not that I drink a lot because I don't. Two is my happy place with dinner. I had one hour left when we arrived and she was attentive and made sure to check on us which ensured I received my two margaritas which made me very happy. The food was plentiful as you can see in the pictures and measures up with the Mexican around the gulf coast... But wait... The prices here are SO MUCH BETTER! The owner/manager is very nice as well. He passed our table to make sure we liked everything. I am a known doggy bag enthusiast. Lol. I rarely finish an entire plate. Not because the food is bad but I don't like to over stuff myself and I ALWAYS never fails get the munchies later that night. He was concerned that I didn't enjoy my meal because I didn't finish my plate. But I assured him that everything was really good. Try this place. The price is right. The food is good. And the service is on point. Ask for Cynthia. Cheers! Happy hour 4-6 $.99 margaritas

Who would have though to visit a Mexican Restaurant on the Fifth of May? This place was packed. We were told the bar had open seating. After waiting around for 1/2 hour and found a spot, we were told by the manager that open seating doesn't apply on the national holiday. The music was so loud were we were sitting, the mariachi band didn't have a chance to shine. After a BD party vacated some table, we swooped in on a second attempt to seat ourselves. Success! Then the manager came back, lucky the birthday girl told him we were with her. The food was good, and surprising fast. The drinks came even faster.

First time to visit El Agave, and the food was great. Staff was friendly and inviting. I ordered the enchilada dinner and loved it. My wife ordered the chicken & queso and it was wonderful too. Kids meals were $4 each and my kids seemed to enjoy them as well. All in all, my whole party really enjoyed our food. Definitely worth trying El Agave out!

It has been a while since I've had such good mexican! Everyone is treated like family. It is a place you can count on to hit it out of the park each time. The salads are wonderful and fresh. The dishes are authentic and the price is right!!! The owner comes around and visits and really wants to know you and welcome you. Btw.. The 99 cent margaritas with dinner are the cherry on top! We will certainly be regulars

Four of us went there for "happy hour"(only 99c margaritas- no discounts on other drinks:(). We had buy one get one free coupons from Island View casino(otherwise we might have not gone here). My husband and I both ordered 2 of most expensive items on menu- grilled shrimp and pork chops ( and beer for him). Our food was delicious. I had 2 margaritas assuming they were 99c as did all of us. Our friends were also very pleased with their entrees - pork with green sauce and a chicken burrito. He had 2 highend beers at 4.50 each. The bill came- no 99c margaritas- regular price because of coupons. We spent about 60 with the coupons. We were rather upset that we did not get the 99c price. Server excellent, Manager pleasant, decor nice, food great but no 99c margaritas:(:(:(:(:(:(

We ordered the chicken chimichanga and we're pleased with its taste & appearance. Our waitress was friendly, helpful& interested without being obvious or pushy. We would recommend this restaurant to our friends and plan to visit again soon!

An okay little Mexican restaurant. The food is okay, but the mechanics of the dishes leave much to be desired. Their definition of "fajita salad" apparently means a few shreds of lettuce with half an order of fajita meat, barely warm, without fajita veggies. There was some language barrier with my waitress on my second visit. ("go easy on the cheese" does not equal "mas queso") But it was sorted out before the order went in. So that's not a problem, but something to be aware of. When I'm in town, if I've gotten bored of all the usual places, I'll go back.

Service was great and the food was excellent. It's been nearly a year since I had Mexican food this good. The salsa was really good. I had the chicken & queso meal and it was very good. Everyone in our party cleaned their plates.

Now I only rank it this high because I know the owner and he prepares me authentic fares that are not on the menu and they are excellent. For those not that fortunate, this is on par and I have nicknamed it Los Tres South. (because of its southern location from the Los Tres Amigos) The menu items are clearly designed for the local taste (which I find bland) but now that they have been open several months they have worked the kinks out of the menu and kitchen and you can run in their and grab lunch in 35-40 minutes. They have several dining areas from private to semi private and a full bar if your into that kind of thing. Parking can sometimes be hectic but if you park down the street in the southern parking lot then you wont have a problem. You can find me there once a week for lunch.

Great first impression! Food and service very good. We will be back. The Blues & Jazz fajitas were amazing. Fajitas cooked with bbq sauce...who would have thought of that? Sounds odd, but they were amazing.

Service was terrible. Waiter uninterested and they got a B on there health inspection for unprimed food storage/food prep temp/food reheat temp/kitchen cleanliness!

The food was better than expected. Sad though because they had run out of the carne asada. However we had a large party and wasn't sure if they normally have a large crowd on a Sunday nights. Margaritas are cheap and taste good, nothing to write home about but you can't beat the price. Service was slow but accommodating

The food is outstanding, especially the chicken and queso. The service was very slow with a disinterested wait staff. Still worth visiting, though. Glad to have an option in the downtown area.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
