I can't believe I have never Yelped about CS. Like Betsy B. stated China Star is best known for their inexpensive but tasty buffet. If you are looking for getting the most bang for your buck or going to a Chinese buffet where you can get in and out in under 45 minutes than CS is the place for you. The menu is typical for a Coast Chinese buffet. The service is very friendly, attentive and polite and unlike other local buffets, this place lets you know your business is appreciated. My only complaints about CS is that they have no green salad bar on the buffet and that I don't seem to notice any "dinner" items added at their dinner price . Other than that, they have plenty of parking and a great location near the beach!!!

This place is not what it used to be years ago. Not much selection on the food. Sushi (if you call it that there) is not much of a choice there. The food has a bland taste. The atmosphere is warm in the building. The place is kid of run down. I wont be returning there anymore.

Used to visit this location as a kid and remembered it being a whole lot better than it currently is. I walked in with my boyfriend and the waiter was on his phone for a couple minutes before we even got seated. The food was ok but the majority of the time our waiter was on his phone. Our drinks were empty and empty plates were left at the end of the table until right when we were getting up to leave when our waiter finally made his way back to our table. The restaurant was empty except for three people at two other tables.

Worst freaking food on the Coast. Greasy, cold, and flavorless... The highlight of our meal was the mint flavored Cool Whip in a paper cup.

I used to eat here on a regular, but haven't been there in a while. On today's visit I was very disappointed with both the selection and the quality of the food. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour, there were no egg rolls, and the spring rolls they did have were crispy on the outside and soggy with a few shredded carrot inside. The egg foo young and potstickers were cold and the selection of Chinese entrees was extremely limited. They no longer had shrimp in lobster sauce or wonton soup that I usually went there for. They have cut way back on their dessert offerings and eliminated the ice cream. Even at the low price of $6.99 for the lunch buffet it was not worth it.

If your looking for flashy chain store Chinese food place--this is not it. But what it is--is a very plan, nice family neighborhood buffet. The service is nice and the food is good and plentiful. Not exotic just good. I will gladly stop in anytime I'm in the area when I want a good fast Chinese meal without pretense.

Oh I hate to write a negative review when it's a family owned establishment. I will say right off that they are super nice and that goes a long way for me. My BF and I usually hit up the Panda Palace on the weekends and with the minor exception here and there it is an exceptional buffet. Yelp is not real established in Mississippi so I try to make it a point to give a decent review everywhere we go. Our first red flag was that at 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon there was maybe 2-3 cars in the entire parking lot. We almost backed out but decided to give it a shot because he had been there some time back and remembers it being pretty good. No customers in a buffet means one thing. Nothing is fresh off the grill- Most items I tried were luck warm like the string beans and steamed broccoli. (That was actually cold) The coconut shrimp was soggy and I didn't even try it because that is my absolute favorite at the other place. :( The main dishes were very unappealing and the blackened chicken was very greasy. I usually stay away from all the fried items like cheese sticks and egg rolls at my favorite place but IF I do have something it is always good. Here, the entire line of fried items looked SOOO bad it was an instant turn off for what happened to be about 1/3 of the entire place. So without writing anymore I will just offer a final thought- I do try to support small business whenever possible but I will in no way, ever, return. If you are reading this still and need a good buffet choice, head up HWY 49 to the Gulfport Panda Palace. It is so good and exactly $1 more for lunch and had exceptional sushi for a buffet. I love my boyfriend for encouraging me to try a new place but this is why I stay with what I know is good. One star for friendliness and one additional star because eating anywhere with my guy is great.

The food was good. I have to admit I was skeptical. I've not seen many cars there but had heard from several people that it was really good and you can't beat the price. Well they were right. They have 3 hot food buffets and a salad bar. The food was fresh and what they offered was tasty. I really liked the coconut shrimp and black pepper chicken. They seemed to have many regulars who came in and were greeted as such by the hostesses/waitress. We made it out for 24$ not including tip for 2 adults and one 7 yr old. I would eat here again.

Cheap price, a lot of seating, but the food is not good at all. The bourbon chicken tasted and smelled spoiled. Even the normal Chinese buffett foods were below average. With that being said proceed with caution.

China Star is a Chinese buffet restaurant in an old converted steakhouse. Even though they do have an al a carte menu, their main business is the buffet. It has been newly renovated after Katrina, with flat screen tv's and soft lighting. The noise level is low and the clientel large. The buffet is the usual Chinese restaurant fare with a tip of the hat to local favorites. Boiled crawfish and stuffed crabs can be found next to the likes of chicken lo mein and egg drop soup. The dessert buffet can consist of items such as canned lychee nuts, small cream puffs and all-you can eat ice cream cups-even sugar free! The food is tasty, neither special or bad. The prices are excellent-two can dine on buffet with free refill soft drinks and a tip for under $25.00. The service is very attentive and polite, the restaurant clean. If you like a place where the locals go that is off the beaten path of Beach Blvd., I think you will like China Star.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
