This place is awesome! Seriously the wait staff is nice and friendly. Ask for their w-fi. And they will hook you up!!. Food is great. family owned and operated, always a plus. A pitcher of margs and chips and salsa call it a day!!!

Service is average. But tacos are stale. Not the freshest. Not the best I've had. I think Taco Bell has better tasting shells for tacos.

The food is alright, service is hit or miss, cheaper on the texmex side of things. There are both better mexican places in town, and cheaper places in town, but all in all it isnt the worst place to eat and drink.

Rio Grande is a place we decided to try because we've never been. I must say im quite happy. The service was good and the food was very tasty. Oh and do not get full on the chips and salsa before the meal. Also the portion sizes are huge! Im warning you now before you decide to attend. Especially the fajitas! If you and a loved one decide to get this dish just know the fajitas for 1 is enough for 2 people and fajita for 2 is enough for 4 people. I guess this is a great complaint to have. The atmosphere is great also. The happy hour is cool too. Cheap alcohol that probably not too many people know about. Looking for good authentic Mexican food this is a place to go. You wont be disappointed.

I live about half a mile from Rio Grande and eat there on a weekly basis. We love the food and the guys that work there. It's family friendly and my two daughters both ask for RIO.. Lol

Just moved to Missouri from California and I have to say that I grew up on REAL mexican food. This place wasn't bad. My brothers and I always rate a mexican joint firstly by the quality of the chips and salsa. Salsa was good, spicy but not over the top. Chips were thin and crispy but tad bit oily. I'd give them a 7 out of 10 on the chips and salsa. I had a chicken chimichanga which was seasoned very well. Too often places fail to season chicken but I was delightfully surprised. My friend had a combo of enchilada, tamale, and burrito, all with ground beef. All of it was covered in probably too much sauce and wasn't overly-amazing or overly seasoned. As far as mexican food goes in Missouri, it's not a bad place to eat and I'll probably go back when I need a fix.

Decent enough Mexican food. Free chips and salsa. Usually get some cheese dip, too. Free refills on the chips. Great price on draft beer - $3.50 for a 35 oz mug. I usually get a Boulevard Wheat. Wife enjoys the Margaritas. Enchilada Verdes are good. I have eaten here a lot and it has always been good. I have found the service here to be good, as well. Food comes out quickly.

Summary: Bland Mexican food cooked without the spices. This has to be some of the worst Mexican food I have had in some time. Okay, I just moved back to the area after several years in Austin, TX so I knew that we were not going to get good Mexican here, but this fell even far below my already low expectations. My Burritos De Luxe were anything but deluxe. The beans were just pasty and bland (I have had better from a can), the chicken seemed to be just plain unseasoned shredded breast meat, and the red sauce on top tasted like pasta sauce. (Seriously, the sauce tasted like Ragu.) My wife's Carnitas were not much better; bland and dry. Just over cooked pork roast, not like any Carnitas I have had before. The atmosphere was okay, and the service pretty good. But that was not enough to make up for the food IMHO. The place seems to be pretty full every time I drive by, but after going there I am really at a loss to understand why.

Good food with decent prices but just make sure you check your order before leaving if you get one to go. A few times I have gotten home only to realize something was missing.

Surprisingly fresh and cheap mexican. To the STL folks, I would compare it to the Wash U staple, Mi Ranchito. The pitchers of margaritas are towering and priced to move. The food portions are huge, so keep that in mind. In the end, the bottomless baskets of tasty chips and salsa is what keeps me coming back again and again.

I just visited Rio Grande for the last time tonight. I've been going there about twice a month since they opened. About four months ago we went and had a bad experience. About three months ago I went back and had a similarly bad experience. Tonight we went back and the same deal. That was strike three. We won't be going back. I am a fajita fanatic - I love me some fajitas. Up until about 4 months ago, they were great - a huge mound of golden chicken, caramelized onions and peppers served on one of those cast iron platters. You could hear them coming long before they arrived at the table. Another large plate with a heaping helping of rice and beans, with a big ole dollup of sour cream, guac and pico. And three fresh flour tortillas to wrap it all up in. I could eat till I could eat no more and bring half of it. The last three times, this has not been the case. Tonight was the worst. It was still a very large serving, but 90% was onions, with a few peppers and maybe two ounces of chicken. There was no sizzle at all - in fact, barely any steam coming off of it. The chicken appeared to have been boiled - completely flavorless. and the onions and peppers did not have any color to them - the dish had no flavor. The rice and beans covered about the same amount of surface area on the plate as they did back in the good ole days, but they were spread paper thin on the plate. I scraped all of the rice and beans together into one glob on my plate, and it amounted to about the size of a golf ball. And there was maybe a teaspoon of guar, sour cream and pico. To top it all of, the service sucked. We were seated promptly, and within seconds chips and salsa were delivered to the table, but the salsa was completely flavorless and the chips stale. Our waiter appeared within a minute or two took our drink orders and returned with our drinks promptly. We all knew what we wanted - we didn't even crack open our menus - so when our waiter delivered our drinks, he took our orders. That was literally the last time that we saw our waiter all night. My drink was empty before our entres were delivered. and remained that way until we left. My wife, who ordered enchiladas, wanted a to-go box. I had to send my sone to go get one. After waiting for about 15 minutes for our check, we finally went to the front counter. I told the guy there that we had not seen our waiter since we placed our order. He asked me what we had - I repeated the order to him, he rang us up without even an apology. I paid. and we left. It was the first time in my entire life I have paid a bill without leaving a tip. Not sure what happened to this place. It was never what I would consider fantastic, but was always adequate, reasonably priced, and very close to my house. Never again...

I really like this place. The fajitas are awesome and the unlimited chips and salsa rock. The margaritas are always $1.75. Not the fanciest Mexican restaurant, but fun for a cheap meal or a group of people! They cater, too!

To start off, the salsa is to die for. Our waiter was very friendly. Very clean atmosphere, and the food was hot and fresh. The strawberry lemonade tasted like it was freshly squeezed.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
