Logboat Brewing Company

Love craft breweries. This place has great vibes and excellent beer. The ginger wheat was perfect. I usually try several different beers at local breweries, but the ginger beer was to good not to get again. They need a food source here though. I was told they are working on getting food trucks here every night. Also, you can bring in food which is nice. COMO is definitely making a good name for itself and logboats is helping!
Who would have thought that one of the best bars would be in Columbia Missouri. They serve a fantastic selection of brewed beers, some local whiskey and wonderful mixed drinks (try the Turtle!). Our personal beer favorite was the Snapper (with Shiphead and Mamoot a tied second). On your first trip in, I would suggest trying a flight so you can pick your particular favorite. This brewery is so well thought out. It is beautiful inside with the wooden beams and great artwork on the walls. The glass windows showing in to where they brew is a great add to the atmosphere and fun to see. A really nice touch is in the ladies bathroom, each stall has a shelf for your drink and each sink also has a shelf (no worrying about leaving your drink unattended!). The outside of this brewery is also well thought out. There is bocci ball, corn hole game, and croquet courts. Plenty of room for kids and dogs to play while enjoying a cold adult beverage. While the brewery doesn't serve food, they do have food trucks outside on occasion. We have tried both the Biscuit truck and Taco Tuesday's (YUMM to both!). I highly recommend multiple trips to Logboat, many great drinks to try and a very, very fun atmosphere. (Due to the popularity of their beer, it can now also be purchased at the grocery stores in the area. It is canned on site at Logboat.)
One of my favorite hangout places in Columbia. Not many of the college students know/go here. The beer is fantastic, the outdoor games are a lot of fun, the interior is beautiful. Great place to meet up with friends and enjoy your night. I highly recommend it!

GO HERE BEFORE YOU GO TO CLUB VOGUE!!! Don't let the location or interesting reputation scare you away. This is by far my favorite club to go to in the area! It's wayyy better than Club Vogue for a lot of reasons. Of course the girls are gonna be the first thing that stands out. There's maybe one or two of the typical blonde and white dancers, but their diversity is what makes Rumors special! They have girls with lots of tattoos, people of color and different ethnic backgrounds, students and degree holders, essentially they seem to hire the cool people rather than just those who may fit some Barbie stereotype that is actually not that attractive. I guess what I'm saying is, if you're into both Beyoncé AND Kat Von D, you'll like it here. the girls have a wide variety of talent in their respective wheel houses too. I've seen some crazy stuff done on the pole, and have had some acrobatics while getting a dance too. Definitely impressive! The music is AWESOME too! Seeing a girl get lost in her dance that she's doing to a Sleigh Bells or Flight Facilities song can be literally mesmerizing (and a great way for the girls to make those dollars magically disappear from your wallet!). I'm finding myself constantly disappointed in the music at other clubs after going to this place. If I hear "Pour Some Sugar on Me" one more time, I'll give the DJ the number to Rumors so they can get some tips on better music The staff is cool too. I've never felt a sense of sexism or racism there. Also, they have a Student Night!

Ms Kim’s Fish & Chicken Shack

I have always complained about there not being good fried chicken in town. I have finally found it at Ms. Kim's. The collard greens were also delicious. I can't wait to try the rest of there menu.
Hidden gem...best fried chicken in Columbia hands down! Not too mention the fried pickles and the hush puppies are on point as well. My wife had the Apple Dump dessert which was amazing as well. The owner and staff were very welcoming and gave great suggestions. Can't wait to go back and take the rest of the family!! Cards accepted but help support a growing business and bring cash.
Ms Kim's is located in a tiny storefront in a dilapidated, half deserted strip mall in a semi-industrial section of Columbia, MO. From the outside, it looks like nothing you'd want to visit. Inside, it's a whole different story. I had the buffalo fish, fried pickles, and hush puppies. Claire got catfish, red beans and rice, and collard greens. We split a soft drink. The buffalo fish was crispy, perfectly breaded, and so meaty that if it wasn't for the bones (more on those later), you'd think you were eating a piece of beef. The breading was not too thin nor was it thick and overwhelming--just right. Hush puppies were the size of large marbles, as they should be. Keeping them smaller lets the outside brown nicely and still cooks the inside, so you don't get raw dough. Flavor was mild and picked up "fish" from the oil. They were the best hush puppies I've ever had, outside of home made. The catfish was excellent. Not mushy, not overcooked, and not greasy. Batter coating was smooth, perfectly cooked, and didn't overwhelm the delicate flavor. Fish seemed very fresh; no off taste as is sometimes found in catfish. Red beans and rice were nicely seasoned. Not too salty and not bland. Collard greens are not my favorite, but Claire declared them excellent. The fried pickles were unusual, but very good. They seemed to be slices like those you would find on a hamburger, dipped in batter, and fried. Good flavor and texture. I wasn't expecting pickle chips, but they were quite tasty. Portions were adequate to large and presentation was decent. Food took about 12 minutes to arrive at the table, as everything is cooked freshly. The staff is Friendly. Note the capital F. Expect to be drawn into a family discussion and small talk. When Ms Kim brought our food out, she sternly warned me that buffalo fish has bones. Eating here is more like eating at Ms Kim's kitchen table and less like eating at a restaurant. If you're not comfortable with that, you may want to get your food to go. One last thing to note. This place is clean. As in spotless. I've never seen an eating establishment this clean, anywhere, at any price. I wish I could get her crew to come wipe down my home kitchen! Price for our lunch came to $20. Well worth it. I expect this to become a regular spot for Claire and me.

Sidelines Sports Bar

701 Big Bear Blvd
Columbia, 65202
Reviews:
Sidelines describes itself as a sports bar, but I rarely see any sports on. Instead, I've seen poker nights, dance nights, and people having a good time. I usually just sit at the bar and conversate with the staff and regulars. It is one of the very few establishments on the north end of town and caters to a diverse clientele. Usually, I go just for the wings. They may be one of the best kept secrets for hot wings in town. They cook them in outdoor fryers. A warning though, if you order the Cajun ones, you will need several glasses of water. They have catfish on Fridays and it likewise is incredible. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. When I first went they didn't have my choice of whiskey, but they promised to stick it for me next time I came in. Sure enough, I went back and they kept their word. Plus, they tolerate me. That's not an easy task. One time, I loaded the juke box with 2 hours of Richard Cheese music and nobody seemed to mind.

I have been a fan of this chain for years. I was visiting CoMo on business and stumbled onto Penn Station while looking for somewhere to eat. I was sooo happy! I was literally excited! Ordered my all-time favorite....hot Italian. The sandwich is the most AMAZING sub you will ever eat. The bread, meat, peppers, onions, tomatoes....( mouth is watering as I type....) This store made it fast, delicious and friendly. You never go wrong at this place. Ever......
For a sandwich chain restaurant, the best one in Columbia! I like the chicken teriyaki, fries, and a lemonade when I go!
I finally tried Penn Station after hearing many positive things and it did not disappoint. They have a great variety of options for sandwiches and sizes (who likes to be limited to 6" or 12"). Food came out fast and hot. The bread was fantastic and so were the fillings. I'll definitely be back!
