Whether steak or prime rib, we've never had a bad cut of beef here. We eat here at least once a week, and the food and service are consistently good. The tropical chicken is bright and flavorful. They serve a nice loaf of bread before dinner with generous portions of whipped butter. The other thing that seems to need some work are the veggies. They can be hit or miss. Sometimes overcooked, other times bland and lukewarm. Tried the fried cheesecake once--wasn't very good. Service is generally very good and the servers tend to be on the ball. We have eaten at a Longhorn in Kansas City that wasn't nearly as good as this location. The owner of this particular one is present quite often and he keeps things in order! Give it a try!!

what food isn't burnt is good but very small portions will leave hungry don't get the portabella chicken you get about 1/2 oz of food and the chicken is burnt this is a great deal for 9.00

We had an awesome time. All 6 of us liked the food very much, from fried shrimp to excellent salmon to tasty baby back ribs (Vidalia onion BBQ sauce was slightly better than the spiced rum BBQ sauce), to the amazingly good porterhouse steaks. Our 3 steaks were all cooked about one level rarer than we ordered but that's always better than the opposite. Hot, fresh bread made a great complimentary starter and we all liked our included salads. Our server, Sara, was wonderful - she checked with us frequently, quickly fulfilled requests, wasn't afraid to banter teasingly with us, and balanced up-selling dessert with fair warning about the portions. We wound up splitting 2 around the table and that was plenty. Decor was typical cowboy-steakhouse, and the temperature and volume levels were great. (Well, except maybe for all the raucous laughter from us!) The light level was a bit low, particularly for grandma, but in general was OK. It was a great family dinner and we'd all happily go back again any time.

Had high fat steak. Manager Tracy very understanding and genuinely cared. Didn't charge me and asked for picture to send to home office.

After a bad experience with an argumentative server last week, I ended up walking out and having lunch next door at another restaurant. I have been a loyal customer of Longhorn Steakhouse in the past and have had great experiences at other locations. This was my first visit to the Columbia location. There are many other great restaurants in the area to choose from so I probably won't be going back.

Yesterday I had a seriously good rib eye for lunch at Longhorn, cooked medium-well. I also had the lobster chowder which was delicious and comforting. Salad was standard. My previous experiences here were only average but this meal had me wondering why we don't come here more often.

It's a chain and it's the "Olive Garden" of steak places. Don't expect prime cuts of meats, they are "choice" cuts at best. But, the good news is, it's not expensive, it's new and the room is large. If you're from Chicago or Kansas City, you will barely be able to tolerate the steaks. Just remember that for a college town, this is the "new" Ponderosa and it's way better than those guys.

Have been here 3 times for dinner, and twice for lunch. Each time I ordered a steak, cooked medium, usually the 10oz Ribeye. Each time the steak has been perfect with one exception. My recent visit I ordered the 12oz Ribeye and ordered it medium as well. It came Medium-Well to Well done. Steak was good but overcooked. My wife ordered a 10oz cooked medium and it was perfect, so it seems maybe the thicker steaks are a bit more of a challenge for the cook? I'll stick to the 10oz from now on, but whether or not this one steak was overcooked I am a fan of the restaurant. I would like to say one other thing, I usually order the loaded sweet potato with my steak. The first time I ordered it, it came with butter and marshmellows melted in, but also had a side of more cinnamon butter and some maple sugar. That was the best! Every time since then, they skip the side of maple sugar and extra butter, so it's not been as good. I think they are putting it on themselves rather than adding it on the side, which I think is a mistake. All in all though, I will be back to the Longhorn Steakhouse. It's our favorite place to eat in Columbia, usually for the steaks. Next time I order a larger/thicker steak I'll simply ask for Med-rare and it should be fine. Love the service, and love the atmosphere. 4 Stars from me.

Been here twice and there won't be a third time. Second time was a family event and they just can't cook a steak right. Wife and I asked for medium well and mine was medium rare hers was rare. She sent hers back and it came back medium rare. She didn't eat it and at least they didn't charge her but we wasted over an hour there and still had to get food.

Went once and lunch special was lackluster. Small, soup terrible. Said no go, then folks called and wanted to go next day. We went again. Ordered a hamburger and salad. Worse than first time. Way to expensive for quantity and quality. Way better places to eat in Columbia. Skip place and try another...

I have been a regular here since it opened in late 2003. Bill and his staff do an excellent job of making sure the customer has an outstanding dining experience. You will never have a bad piece of beef here. From the burgers to Flo's Filet, the beef is juicy and delicious. The atmosphere is straight out of a texas ranch, complete with the steer head above the bar. This is definitely the best steakhouse in Columbia.

We had a great experience with the Longhorn in O'fallon, MO so we were expecting the same quality at the Columbia location. Not quite. They might have just had an "off night", not sure. We ordered a peach ice tea, a peach sangrias, a coke, and a porterhouse for two. Our sides were mashed sweet potatoes and Parmesan asparagus with a Caesar and garden salad. The table next to us got their bread quicker than we did and they sat down after us. The waitress that brought the sangria was spilling it everywhere when she walked to the table next to us and asked them if they had ordered it. They shook their head and I spoke up and said we did. She spilled a lot on the table and said it was filled very fully. No one ever came back to wipe up the mess on the table and it made my fiancé's phone and car keys sticky. Besides the mess, my fiancé really enjoyed the drink and it was finished within minutes. (Mostly ice) Next came the salads and we were both pleased with them. The sides came a little bit before the steak. The people next to us returned their steak because of wellness. I had asked when ordering the asparagus if the parm crusted came with lemon sauce and she said she would bring some on the side. It did not come with lemon sauce and I asked for lemons halfway through. Half of the sweet potatoes were burned so he only enjoyed a few bites. The porterhouse looked good but no one had us cut into it upon delivery. We ordered medium and the waitress said that it would be medium rare toward the middle. Quite opposite. My fiancé began as I was still finishing my side. The strip side was cooked at medium well and got more done toward the center. The fillet part was for me. I cut into it and it was completely grey and tough. The overall flavor was bland and it was tiring to our jaws to eat it. I said, we did not come here to spend $40 dollars on a bad steak. I told the waitress that my side of the steak wasn't cooked to order and she got the manager. The manager looked in his twenties. I showed him the steak and he said he could get a new porterhouse cooked or he could make me a fillet (since I was complaining about the fillet side). I voted for the fillet option because I didn't want to wait a long time. The awkwardness was sitting with a huge plate of steak that was overcooked and no one had thought to take it away. The manager came over and apologized again and asked if we would like to order a dessert so we looked at the menu. The fillet came eventually. The manager asked me to cut into it and I said it looked way better than the last piece of meat. It was cooked medium rare. I ate it regardless because I was very hungry. The flavor was very minimal but the meat was tender. The dessert was the sampler and it was overall pretty good, but we didn't finish because we couldn't eat it all. When the check came, we saw that the drinks were taken off (coke, ice tea, and the sangrias) as well as the desert. Overall, with everything, we were there an hour and a half. We asked the other family next to us how their meal was. The mother had cold shrimp and the son had cold chicken. The father's steak was cooked medium well when he asked for medium. It could have been an off-night, with several food complaints around. Maybe a non-regular cook that evening or something. Not sure. We don't know if they are always this way since it was our first time. The manager and waitress were fair, polite, and courteous about the situation and handled them professionally. We may go back.
