2013 We stopped here thanks to Yelp. The town was cute. We shared three bean dip and maize cakes. We drank Blonde on Blonde and Wee Heavy. Good tastes all around. The dip was garnished with the first good tomatoes I've had this year. The egg on the cakes: perfect sunny side up. Left with a growler of Blonde on Blonde. 2015 We stopped here again. The menu was different. He had shrimp gumbo and I had the cottage pie. Although it wasn't quite the menu we were looking for, I do appreciate that they take the care to change the menu. We tried several beers and our favorite was the Black Honey Boone Dog Brown.

Place had a good vibe so we checked it out. Ordered a strawberry Spanish salad...but it came with no strawberries?!? They saved the day by bringing me a cup of strawberries but wouldn't have if I hadn't asked. Strange.

what a great place. We have been here a few times while in town from St.Louis for Tiger Football. First of all, we love to sit at the bar. The bartenders are super friendly and are awesome about explaining the different whiskeys they have to offer and letting us try them out as well. The beers ( not a beer fan, but I do taste my husbands when I am there) are really good. My favorite Salad is the Arugula salad. It is awesome!! Sheperds pie is amazing and might be the best I have tried. Can't wait for next football season to get back to Columbia and get to Broadway Brewery.

Perhaps it is disingenuous to review a restaurant in which I haven't eaten, but I did try to eat here once in November '09. My friend and I arrived on a weekday evening early, around 5:30 pm, and were seated almost immediately. The bar looked full but there were at least four empty tables. We were ignored completely for over 10 minutes at which point we received waters from the hostess who sat us, ironically not the server who passed us numerous times while waiting on adjacent tables. There were at least three other servers, so I don't think they happened to be understaffed. Finally, we asked for menus and those did not arrive for over 10 minutes! After waiting another 15 minutes for someone to take our order, we just gave up and left. I would like to go back and give them another chance, but given the experiences others have had there, it seems likely the service has not improved. It is painfully obvious the management is inexperienced, but I hope they are not clueless. We did like how they renovated the space to a sleek and open environment, though I enjoyed Uprise Bakery's kitchy atmosphere when their restaurant was there. As others have commented, it was fairly loud, and unfashionably so as new restaurants go. As for the rating, if I could give 5 stars for the ideal and creative effort the owners are making to incorporate local and seasonal produce, which I respect very much, I would. But then, I wouldn't be rating the restaurant. So, it's just one star for now. Maybe I'll try again after more reviews are positive....

The beer is what I would characterize as "OK". I've not yet tried the food -- but, judging from what I've seen on people's plates, it looks pretty decent. Long story short, I've been here about a dozen times (solely to imbibe libations) and the beer is pretty unpredictable; ranging from "hey, not bad!" to "my god, it's tepid urine!".

We were stuck in Columbia in a snow storm and spent an unplanned Sunday in town during Mizzou's spring break. We really had nothing to do, but luckily we decided to eat here twice - in the same day, no kidding. We had a nice enough brunch in the afternoon and enjoyed trying several different beers - the pale ale and the porter were especially good. As we were leaving, I happened to notice that people being seated at that point were getting a different menu. Later, we were looking for a place for dinner and we reviewed some menus online and even called a few places. We were really struck by the unusual dinner menu at Broadway Brewery and decided that our best bet was just to go back. We weren't disappointed - everything was different from the brunch menu, and the "localvore" twist along with obviously fresh ingredients and food prepared completely from scratch were a really nice surprise to us. The beers tasted just as good the second time around, too. I apologize if this makes me sound like a snob, but we are pretty spoiled from living right next to Chicago and having a lot of great restaurants and brewpubs to choose from, and I was really happy to find something so good in Columbia!

Awful beer. Bland food. No windows and zero atmosphere - place might as well be in an underground cave. Clueless servers and smug, off-putting management. One star only because the concept would probably work in a different location with different servers, managers, brewers, and kitchen staff. Really - it's that bad.

Broadway Brewery is an OK place. The food isn't spectacular, but it's filling and usually tasty. The beers are OK, too. Not spectacular either. The biggest problem with Broadway Brewery is the staff. It's hard to get the attention of a waitress, and the bartenders are just plain rude. My friends and I were sitting at the bar for 15 minutes, waiting for her to help us. An older man sitting near us got her attention and had to tell her to help us. If it weren't for his help, I don't think we'd have stayed there. The food, drinks and atmosphere are decent, but poor service really does the place a disservice.

This is a restaurant I love to go to. The lamb burger with goat cheese, arugula & pesto (like on their previous menu) is amazing! It is one of the best burgers I've eaten. The side potatoes are also a favorite. I have eaten here multiple times with groups and no one has ever had a complaint. The food is great. Although food can be a bit pricey, they are using local ingredients which aren't as cheap to buy. It's nice to know where your food comes from. The beer is also good and they have great guest taps.

I love this place, great bar, awesome food mostly locally sourced, good beer, and the staff is stellar. It can get a little crowded and loud on evenings when the university is in session, but that's just because it so damn good.

My first trip here was back in February, late on a Friday night. One of the guys I was with wanted food and chose this restaurant. I ordered the beer sampler, 8-9 medium glasses of beer soon appeared in front of me. There were a few that stood out, but none of them were amazing. We ordered the Peasant Plate, a hodge-podge of cheese, sausage, vegetables, fruits and bread. It was delicious. Their homemade pickles were delicious! The homemade mustard was complex, sweet and sour. Yum. I didn't order myself an entree, but stole some bites from my friend's dinner. He ordered the pastrami sandwich with roasted root vegetables. All I have to say is: "Wow!" I couldn't get enough of the amazingly tender and flavorful meat! I definitely recommend putting the mustard on the sandwich, it adds depth to the overall flavor. The roasted root vegetables were delicious too. Small potato bites perfectly flavored.

I love the beer. And so far I have loved every dish I have tried. I agree with the noise level issue, but am hoping they take care of that and am going to allow the well implemented concept to make up for it.

I am not a beer drinker. They have a full bar and a great selection of wine. I love the fact that they change the menu regularly. They use local and natural ingredients. They have always accommodated my dietary needs. Wheat free, dairy free and vegetarian options are usually on the menu. I go there regularly.

  • Justin B.

I've been here a couple of times and each time I found it very enjoyable. The beer and food seem to be quite consistent. They have a good selection of beer, some of which the brew in house. I would suggest trying there micro-brewed beer before reaching for a bottle, but that is just me. As far as the food goes, they have a good selection of pizza and sandwiches. The pizza is nice and crispy and they have a variety of excellent toppings. The atmosphere is what one would say is typical of a microbrewery/restaurant. It can get a bit crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, so if you go then expect it to be a bit on the nosier side.

  • Brandon C.

Mediocre to poor service and for a brewery, surprisingly beer ignorant employees (management included). Decent beers brewed on premises but better bottle/guest tap selection. The prices for the entrees seems a little much but the food is good, however, the ambiance is a tad pretentious. I would only recommend this place if Flat Branch were not an option.

Attractive interior. Good service. Incredibly noisy...about 30 other people were there when I was. You had to yell at friends to be heard....then they turned on some blues music. Concrete floors, low metal ceilings, little to absorb sound. Worst wheat beer I've ever had. I'll try again in a few months when they work the kinks out. Food was good but serving sizes were smaller than most places.

Great locally made brews and menu items. Bar service is great, with rotating guest taps as well. Don't miss the specials and soups for some short lived tasty items. Affiliated with the Root Cellar and several local farms.

Update: I was participating in a function that was held at the Brewery. I went in and had a better experience so I felt it was necessary to update this review. My party was very late so I stopped in a few times to see if anyone else had shown up. The hostess at the front podium was very nice to me and went out of her way to help me out (she couldn't magically summon people to her location though). When some of my party finally arrived, it was time to get to the business of eating. One of the servers approached our group and was strangely unfriendly, giving us a little speech about big parties and individual checks. The odd thing was that the server who was actually waiting on our party did a fine job and got us all separate checks with much friendliness and professionalism, and without any problem. So what was the first guy's deal?! The dinner I ordered, the Rooster pizza, was excellent and others who had pieces of it also remarked how it was very delicious. In total, I will move my review up a star. It's not A-OK (more like B-OK) but maybe with another visit I'll be more impressed. 1st review: Had a comically bad visit here with a friend and his out-of-town relatives. The food took a long time and the excuse was that we had ordered a variety of items that all needed the (one?) oven: pizza, burger, pasta. The place was far from busy too. I don't even want to think about the wait if the place was over 1/5 capacity. The food was only so-so. As a final end to our dinner experience, as we left, one of our party whispered to the rest that there was a hair in his potato dish. Wow.

Wow. This place really impressed me. It's in such a cool spot and building. It's in the basement of this weird little half outdoor/indoor shopping center building thing. Downtown Columbia is super cool as it is, and this is no exception. It's a rather large area with lots of seating and different style tables. Bar is a great set up, it fits a lot of people. I will throw in an extra comment about their bathrooms being super nice also. I glanced quickly at the beer menu without reading it too in depth. I ordered a flight and they assumed I meant all of them. Before I knew I had 12 different beers in front of me. Perfect! I slowly started working my way through them. I couldn't help but notice how consistently good they were. I didn't have a single beer I wouldn't drink again, even the styles I'm not a fan of. They had some really unique choices and great names for the brews as well. I'd highly recommend all the different IPAs they have. AND they are planning on continuing a series of single hop strain IPAs! After working my way through some of the technically 4 whole beers of varying, mostly on the high end, alcohol content, I decided to order some food. I went out of my comfort zone and ordered the wild mushroom sandwich. Outstanding! I never would have thought an entire, filling, delicious sandwich could be made with just a few ingredients. Amazing flavor. This is by far one of the best brewpub experiences I have had beer and foodwise, If you're trying to decide between some of the different places in town to go, please, give this a shot.

Wow, what a great place for a bite and a couple beers. Definitely one of my new favorite spots in Columbia. The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting. Since you're on the lower level of a building, cell service (Verizon at least) is not the best, forcing you to put the phone down and converse with, you know, other people. I had a beet salad and four cheese pizza. Both top notch, made from scratch using as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. My brother and his wife tried a buffalo burger and both of them had no complaints whatsoever. On to the brews. Everything I tried was great. From their signature APA to a less-hoppy pale ale to their fan-tas-tic hard apple cider. The cider is more dry and sour then sweet, so it's are very drinkable as a session. They also serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays and often have live music. The next time I'm in town, I will be returning.

Coming from Portland, OR (micro brew haven) I thought I'd stop in and check out what they have here. Not bad!! I wished they'd has more options for their own porters/stouts (they offered a lot of different choices of their own brews though) but I tried a mead from Leaky Roof Meadery in Buffalo, MO. It was the High, Dry, & Dusty... Not bad either!!! I finished the whole drink (something I don't normally do, even with my favorite beers). I also had the Porter Dip with toasted different types of bread; and the burger w/wild mushrooms and white cheddar cheese. Yum. (That's all I can say.). Seriously... YUM!!! Loved the decor, very clean, laid back, great employees too!!

What a great spot! It was a bit tricky for us to find at first (we aren't from Columbia). Located in the basement of this building and with pretty poor signage my yelp app helped me find it-thank goodness! Part of what drew us here was a recommendation from a relative but also I was pretty excited about the check in incentive. They have delicious brews and delicious food. They have a sweet stage for a band too! I really like the menu of this place-limited! I think its important for a place to not have everything under the sun on the menu. We had the buffalo burger, added blue cheese and bacon-rich and fabulous! I think next time I will skip the bleu cheese so I can enjoy more of the flavor of the meat. I had a summer brew and also a cider! Their cider is on point and so so yummy! I very much appreciate our server for providing that as a suggestion. We also had so much fun at this place-we went twice in one day!

This is the best place in Columbia. Most breweries have just a few beers or one beer style. Broadway has solid IPAs (plural!!!!), a delicious porter, a great brown and a stout collaboration with a local coffee shop. The French dip and side salad are the best I have ever had. The pizza is perfectly cooked. I had a special with apple and pork that was a unique blend of sweet and savory that more than satisfied. The leek soups was out of this world delicious. They are also great if you have dietary restrictions. They were willing to help with vegan and veggie options far beyond the typical steamed veggies and rice you get at other places. The best part about this place is the staff. Incredibly kind and helpful, even beyond the food. On my first week in town they gave me a long list of to-dos that helped me orient and enjoy my time. They also have free wireless if you need it and they are the perfect spot for lunch.

I was visiting Missouri and came across this little gem. The staff was incredibly friendly and the food (some type of mushroom dip) was phenomenal. It tasted earthy yet delicious. I have to say the best thing about this place is its beer. Go figure right? Seriously though, the beer here is amazing and I wish it was bottled and sold in stores. I tried 4 different beers but the American Pale Ale was my favorite. It is literally the best APA I have ever had. I will always remember this beer and i definitly will come back next time in Columbia, Missouri again. Kudos to Broadway Brewery!

This place is going to give you a decent meal and they have lots of beer varieties made in house, on tap. Don't expect anything fancy, this is a great place just to relax. And, on certain days, there's live jazz!

  • Emily S.

The beer is the best part of Broadway Brewery. I found that the food was mediocre. I think that they could really improve the flavor and variety of their menu. The restaurant is very organic and has a lot of farm to table components - but the food tasted very bland (pulled pork) and the sauces were very interesting (citrus-y BBQ sauce). But the beer is on point - everyone should go for a pint!

I absolutely love this spot in Columbia! I frequently make the trek from St. Louis to Kansas City and back, and my best friend from high school lives in COMO -- this means a lot of stopping in for quick dinners. On my most recent visit we checked out Broadway Brewery, and I'm so glad we did. It was on the first freezing day of "fall" and this spot served as a great little hideaway to warm up, have some drinks, and enjoy good food. We went super early on a weekday, and there weren't many people there yet. Our server was so friendly and knew a ton about the menu, and was able to recommend lots of different things. Clearly they have an excellent beer selection, but they also have a full bar. The menu is huge and so many things looked great, but considering how much eating out I had been doing before this dinner, I decided to go as healthy as possible and order the black bean burger. It's house-made and so good, and comes topped with spinach, roasted red pepper, and spicy cheddar. Things I want to try next time: the trout hush puppies, root vegetable hash, the artichoke porter dip, and pretty much all of the speciality pizzas. This place impressed the hell out of me, and I know we'll be stopping in again very soon.

  • Ellen C.

I do enjoy this place and the beer isn't bad... Definitely one of the better breweries in Como! Had to give it 4 stars because the food sometimes doesn't deliver. Not always consistent. And I feel like their menu changes too much.. Sometimes for the worst. But, always get good service!

SUPERB farm to table restaurant. Plus it didnt hurt that they had a great beer. I Had the Boone dog brown ale, and organic honey wheat. (Sorry if i butcher the names.) Bartender says some of the menu changes on what local farm has in stock. Now the food: I had spring rolls, and pulled pork BBQ sandwich with house chips. As soon as the plates hit the bar, even without tasting the food, the look and smells set it apart. Delicious, explosion of flavor. You can telll they use fresh ingredients. Great services and cool atmosphere. Bartender Jared was awesome, knowledgeable on the beer and food they served. Which is always a good sign. Will return and recommend. Keep it up Broadway brewery.

  • Jack C.

The beer is pretty good. Everything else is just ok - food/price/atmosphere/etc. They don't have fries on the menu. I'm not suggesting that this is necessarily a bad thing, but it's the kind of think you point out on yelp. It's a brewpub with brewpub style food and you're gonna go there and order a burger and it will come with chips not fries. Just a heads up.

This was a fantastic spot. This was my first time here and I was brought here by my bf. It was in the late afternoon on a Saturday in January so it wasn't too crowded. We didn't eat any food but we had a couple beers, both of which were pretty good. My bf had the BBQ IPA which was pretty smoky. I had their squash beer which was their take on the pumpkin ale. It was quite tasty. I didn't get any cell service down there which was a bit of a bummer. All in all, a good place, though. I would definitely go back.

  • Bruce T.

Oh, Broadway Brewery, you were so promising when you first opened.... where did you go wrong? Let's begin with service. It's never been the high point. With the exception of a couple of stellar servers, most of the serving staff appear either uninterested or too inexperienced to know basic tenants of good customer service. But, like I said, service has never been the high point. In the beginning, the high point was always the food. That's why I kept going back. An affordable restaurant featuring high quality, locally sourced ingredients was just what Columbia needed. Unfortunately, the kitchen has been increasingly inconsistent. Makes me suspect they are having staffing problems in the back of the house, as well. The last few times I've eaten there, I leave feeling like I shouldn't have spent the money. I miss the good old days! Broadway, I want to come back when you get your kitchen back in order! I'm still willing to look the other way on the mediocre service - mostly, I just miss the food.

Broadway Brewery is my go-to place for a pint when I'm in Columbia a few times a year. I love their selection of brews on tap, and I almost always enjoy their food. I'd gladly give them 5 stars were it not for my most recent dining experience; hopefully I can get their attention and inspire them to change their ways... I ordered Fish & Chips. Anybody who really craves fish & chips knows that what we commonly call potato "chips" on this side of the Atlantic are called "crisps" in the land where fish & chips originated, while what we call "fries," they call "chips." Nothing is more disappointing to a real lover of fish & chips than to have a plate arrive containing fish and a pile of potato chips:( When you're anticipating an extremely popular meal combination that is commonly referred to as Fish & Chips no matter where you happen to be in the English-speaking world, that's a huge disappointment. Fine tune this please, Broadway Brewery. Or at least warn us ahead of time that what we're going to get will be fish with a plain old pile of American potato chips, so we can avoid the heartbreak. Even if you make them in-house from your own special recipe, believe me, it just isn't what those of us craving an order of fish & chips are going to have their hearts set on, and all the malt vinegar in the world won't make it any better. I really love you otherwise!

Took 15 min for a waitress to come by and ask for drinks. I got up and left. Horrible service. The location is good but the restaurant has a bad atmosphere I feel like. When I walked in, it was just dark and kind of gross.

  • Todd C.

Pleasant service. Loud environment, as expected in a pub. On tap beers are pretty good. Pizza was very good, but chicken was a bit dry. Cheeses as pizza toppings are very good. Trout hush puppies are definitely worth it. Beet salad was very good.

  • Alexis H.

This place has good food and a cool local concept but the service is rude. The bartender was just socializing the whole time and all my other experiences there. We ordered a spinach salad and the entire thing was arugula?! We sent it back and then saw them gossiping about us in the back . I would give it another shot but need to work on service that's all

  • Steph M.

The food was good but the service was weird. That's really the best way to describe it. Our waitress was awkward but I think she was new. I had the burger and veggies. The fingerling potatoes are a good appetizer. Must try the house chips.

  • Rhett H.

I can't not give them 5 stars. They have become a staple in Columbia, in the local, seasonal food world, and they have stuck around. Congrats on their 5 year anniversary, and I hope I will be able to eat foraged-mushroom sandwiches with seasonal veggies for the next 5 years.

I appreciate the offer of a free meal from my last review but decided to give it a go again on my own. This times wife and I both had the burgers and my daughter a slice of pizza. Sorry y'all, you really need to rethink your burger. Just dry. The pizza was so-so. I really wanted to like the food there, cool atmosphere.

Is it possible to give a restaurant lower than 1 star? I'm extremely surprised that this place actually has 3 and a half stars- I had a terrible experience here! We walked in at 9pm wanting dinner and a drink and were told to find a seat anywhere and a waiter would be over shortly to take our drink order. We waited for a solid 20 minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence. We even played the "make eye-contact" game thinking that would help to get someone's attention from across the room. Obviously it did not help. Once we placed our order it took no time at all to receive our food, which coming from a person who has worked in the food industry is not a good sign, especially when we ordered an actual entree. The beer was subpar, the spinach salad had A. no strawberries like advertised, and a measly teaspoon of feta (are you kidding me?) and B. it was DRENCHED in dressing making it nearly inedible! The cottage pie was disgusting- it tasted like 3 day old chili that was microwaved with cheesy potatoes on top and had an aftertaste of soap like the dish was not properly cleaned and rinsed before cooking. Had I been paying the bill, no tip would have been given, so instead I will write a review that I hope will encourage people to never dine here again!

What I ordered was okay, 3 cheese lasagna. I'm willing to go back and try different dishes and update my review accordingly as when we went they seemed to under staffed and for out table of 18 there was only one waiter and the poor guy seemed like he was running around a lot.

I live in Columbia and eat out a lot with my wife. Whenever we eat at the Broadway Brewery we wonder why Flat Branch is so popular and this place is deserted. The food here is great, the menu adventurous and interesting, and the beer is much better than Flat Branch's too-sweet brews. The service here could be bette, as other reviews have noted, but this restaurant deserves success.

  • Rachel J.

The service was very underwhelming. The waitress had no clue about the beer selection (which seemed odd due to the fact that they are a brewery). She also was unaware of the best selections for lunch. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and thought perhaps she was new to the restaurant, but unfortunately, she told us she had been there for some time. The food we received was flavorful, but it took an hour to receive. We received no apologies nor any responses as to why it took so long. Additionally, the chips that 2 people in our party received were burnt. This was brought to the waitresses attention and her response was "They are all made in one batch, so I can't get you another that would make any difference". Again, no apologies, offers or suggestions to make an improvement upon the overdone food they supplied. Lastly, we had to request multiple times for drink refills. At the end of the meal, our party all responded that we would not be returning. The ambiance was very cool and I believe that with better staff the experience would have been much better. I suggest that Management should take a better look at their current staff training and that they present themselves on their floor to improve sales.

What a wonderful find. I've been to Columbia a half-dozen times now from San Francisco to visit my son at Mizzou. Broadway Brewery hasn't come up in my previous restaurant searches and I can't imagine why. Wandered in on a cold and quiet Sunday night just looking for a beer. Ended up staying for one of the best dinners I've had in this town. I was totally surprised by the interesting menu with things like rabbit and dumplings, and a butternut squash thing with cheese and veggies. And, of course, a the usual burgers and pizzas. In house beer was okay, and the guest beer selection was excellent. This will definitely be a regular stop during my trips to Columbia.

There are not enough stars to give this place the review it deserves. Had lunch here and got the trout hush puppies, chili, ham and collard green soup, spinach salad, and bbq pork sandwich. Every bite we had was phenomenal, fresh ingredients put together with attention paid to every last detail. Not only that the environment was comfortable and the service was amazing. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. Definitely give this place a try!

We wanted to go to Flatbranch, or whatever it is called. Good grief, the wait was ridiculous! I had never been to Columbia, so I resorted to Yelp for an alternative. This showed up, so we drove around for a bit until a parking space opened up, then trekked to Broadway Brewery. I think the venue is super cool. It's in the basement of an old building. Too bad no one was waiting to greet or seat us as we waited for over five minutes at the "PLEASE WAIT TO BE SEATED" sign. Once we were seated, it took a long time to be acknowledged by our server. It wasn't that busy (maybe seven tables had people), and three servers were running around like crazy. I noticed all of them were wearing skirts. Hmm. Well, this meal took at LONG TIME to get. I was irritated. . .that's how long it took. We sat for about 30 minutes and waited for two sandwiches. One was a grilled veggie, and the other was a turkey club. Neither of these should take more than 10-15 minutes, tops. Did I say it wasn't crowded? Once the food came out, I was fine. My sandwich was delicious, as was my daughter's. They use locally sourced ingredients when possible, and I could taste it. While the sammies were a little expensive ($9 for a veggie and $10 for the turkey), it was worth it. I do wish, though, that they offered fries as a side. My options were chips or a side salad. If I am going to eat a fattening bar meal, I want to go all out, but I settled for the chips. They were just OK. For dessert, we had the chocolate stout cake. First of all, this was like 1/4 of a whole cake. We split it and couldn't finish it. It was dense, moist, flavorful, homemade deliciousness. AND it was only $6! Totally worth it. I didn't try any house brew, as I don't like to drink during the day, but your YELP check in will get you a free pint of their beer!!! I will come back sometime when I am in Columbia. I would like for service to be better, as there didn't seem to be any excuse for it to be lacking and slow.

I think this place is fantastic. Good beer (a few that are fantastic) and great food. Some of the beer is so good I am going out of my way by purchasing a double walled stainless growler so I can take the MO Double Rye IPA home! They also inadvertently introduced me to JJ Grey and MOFRO - bonus!

As much as people rave about this place you would expect amazing but I've been disappointed every time I've been here by the beer and the food. They keep firing the head chef like every 6 months so its a whole new menu each time. They also lost there brew master and that could be a blessing because there beer is terrible. They do have a decent brunch and live music occasionally.

I have been to the Broadway Brewery for both brunch and lunch. Both times the atmosphere was great and we had good service. The brunch food was underwhelming but the lunch food was delicious (I had the turkey sandwich).

A great feature in downtown Columbia, this is a really solid microbrew with excellent, unique food. When we stopped in, two Saisons were on tap. I loved the 4 Hands guest tap of Pyrus saison, and their house honey Saison was very good as well. The Honey Wheat was nice and mild as well. The pints are about ~$4.40 but that seemed pretty reasonable for the unique brews. We started with the artichoke cheese dip ($7.99). The served suggested we switch out the chips for another pretzel (which showed up as an unmentioned $0.50 surcharge). Anyways, the 2 long pretzel sticks that came with the cup of dip seemed rather sparse for the price of the appetizer but the cheese dip did have a nice flavor. We tried the Spicy Italian Sausage pizza ($16) with smoked ricotta and roasted tomatoes - it was excellent. The Butternut Bacon pizza missed it mark a bit- the creamy, herbed sauce clashes with the richness of the roasted squash and lardon bits to make the pizza a bit too sweet and a pick of unpleasant twang. I think the Butternut Bacon pizza sounded better on paper then when executed. The pizza are easily large enough for 2 people. We were a group of three and ended up with half a pizza to take home. The place was really lively at 8pm on a Friday night, and since they are constantly switching our house and guest taps, I look forward to trying something new every time I come back.

Mediocre food and lackluster service. Of the two beers I had, one was fantastic and the other was sour and flat. Good atmosphere overall, but disappointing fare.

Visited Columbia this weekend & stopped in for a few drinks. They have a great selection for a small brewhouse. I tried 7 of the 10 taps and didn't hit a clunker (five of those via sampler glasses). If you're a fan of coffee style stout they have a collaboration with a nearby coffee shop that is outstanding. Their Double IPA was also a winner. My wife ordered a Kickstarter which was a cucumber vodka drink & simply outstanding. We sat at the bar and service was good. The only downside was the light fixtures above the bar - they hadn't been dusted for months. It was a noticeable flaw that made me want to put the coasters on TOP of my beer. If one of the managers or bartenders is reading this you might want to grab a rag and look up.

Was here for brunch most recently and the place was almost empty on a Sunday. The brunch was okay, but Broadway Brewery never seems to live up to its reputation.

I have only been here about 3 times- twice to drink and once to eat. I like the menu and whatever I had (long time ago) was very good. The service at the bar last time I went was slow...slow to be greeted and then waited on, even though it wasn't really busy. Maybe it's just a laid back atmosphere. I could tell the bartenders were above average by how they crafted their drinks. One bartender was very friendly and conversational with us and the other who actually waited on us just wasn't.

We had a large party, (15 or so), and were celebrating a graduation. The waitress asked if we were celebrating a graduation, we said yes, but she never brought it up again. Our group tried several of their house brews. A pretty good variety of ale products and I was particularly impressed with their coffee expression. Not quite as good as Boulevard's, but close. I was also impressed with the Wee Heavy, a Scottish style brown ale. very flavorful, but not too heavy for an afternoon beer. The menu is pretty original. I had the turkey club. It was served on a fair sourdough, had lots of turkey, and tasted good. Their chips were house fried, but I don't think that they were actually home made as they looked and tasted just like the ones I have had at lots of other places. In any event, they were definitely not blanched, cooled, and then fried crisp, which it my way of thinking, is the only real way to do outstanding chips. Overall, service was prompt but not personable, food was good, but not outstanding, beer was good. If in Columbia again, I would go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it.

Look, the food is very good here. I just don't understand the service ethos. Like so many other reviewers have pointed out, the service is just weird. I was there on a weekend evening, it was not crowded, I eventually had to find the hostess to ask her to find our server just so we could order beers. Before that, the busser had already refilled out waters. It was over 20 minutes from the time we were seated until we saw our server. Servers were swarming all over the place, but didn't seem to really be that busy. The one that eventually decided to come to our table barely spoke to us. It was really awkward. I guess there is a reason there is often a 30-minute wait on weekend evenings at the other brewery across town and not at Broadway, despite the fact that Broadway's food is usually superb. In my mind, a brewery should be offering you a beer within a few minutes of being seated, maybe discussing what they have, recommending things - not showing up 20-plus minutes after you've been seated and barely speaking. Not at the price level this place is at, certainly. I've been there twice in the last year, probably won't be back anytime soon.

This is a regular Sunday brunch spot for us. We like the food and the atmosphere... And the beer. The service is sometimes pretty slow, though, and on Sunday the bluegrass band is great but can be kinda loud. Also menu changes often so I can't recommend anything (they are also out of a lot of stuff if you get there too late). But a fun spot to eat nonetheless

I just had a great Broadway green salad with chicken...lots of greens and veggies. I wanted something light, and this salad hit the spot...topped it off with a Jam Session IPA...num num! The atmosphere is relaxing and not overbearing. Recommend!

This brewery in the heart of Columbia is great. On my visit, a Friday night, the place was hopping, but our party of 3 only had to wait ~15 minutes. That was ok, because we could belly-up to a bar stocked with their own beer (as well as a guest micro-brewer's beer). I had the cream ale and it was very nice. We started out with the artichoke dip with pretzels (for $0.50 you can sub an extra pretzel in for the chips and I recommend doing so)--these hot and salty beauties pair very well with the creamy and artichoke-laden dip (I could have just eaten this and been happy). We split several pizzas, the spicy Italian sausage-with smoked ricotta, it was great--and the Squash and Bacon--it was also good, but I think I would ask for it without the cream sauce next time (so many rich flavors took away from the butternut squash). The crust is great--think and cooked in a very hot oven to give it a smoky flavor and it was loaded with toppings. For 3 of us, the 2 pizzas were more than enough, with some to take as a late-night snack. Our service was also good; although they were busy we were checked on several times and always had our waters filled. Next time I am in town, I am totally going to hit this place again...I want to try the lamb burger with a side of mac and cheese or the asian stir fry.

It's pretty good. For some reason, the Beer at breweries that serve food is never as good as the places that don't. The bet is pretty good and the food is very good. I'll definitely come back again.

Last night I ate at Broadway Brewery, and I was reminded just how much service can affect your experience. I dined with a group of 8, and we were there around 7:00 on a Friday. People seemed quite pleased with their food, and I know that I was- I had the veggie sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. Now, lest you think that a veggie sandwich would be boring and bland, I will tell you that this sandwich was super flavorful. The sandwich had hummus and goat cheese in addition to some roasted vegetables that were still crisp enough to have some crunch. I would definitely order this sandwich again because it was quite filling but not heavy. For my side, I chose the Mac and cheese, and, while I also tried the Asian stir fry, I would definitely pick the Mac and cheese again. The Broadway Brewery has many house beers, but the prices for the house beers are not listed on the drink menu. Several of my friends drank cider instead of a house beer, and their drinks were more expensive than a house beer. In terms of service, I was really disappointed. While our server was initially so attentive that it felt like we were being peer pressured to order more and more drinks, after we got our food, she was not seen until we flagged her down to ask for the bill. We also asked her to walk us through some of the items on the menu (because, to the restaurant's credit, the dishes have a lot of complex ingredients), and she didn't really provide any guidance on the dishes. It kind of blew my mind that a restaurant that prides itself on cultivation of local ingredients and resources didn't train its servers to highlight those points. Additionally, there really was no attempt at any interaction besides transactional ones, which is subtle but goes a long way. Overall, I didn't have a great enough experience that I am beating down the doors to go back to Broadway Brewery, but I wouldn't turn it down. The food was really good. Also, the restaurant takes reservations on weekends! That's a good tip to keep handy.

Ate here with my daughter because we were in town for her graduation last Saturday, and it is one of her favorites in Columbia. We ordered two pizzas, the Spicy Italian Sausage and the Mediterranean. Both were excellent, the crust was thin and just the right about of crunch (I believe they use wood-fired oven). 2 were plenty for four people, we also ordered salads which were fresh and tasty. Between the two pizzas, I liked the Spicy Italian best. I would place the pizzas here above Dewey's Pizza in Cincinnati (my favorite by far there) because the combos are more inventive and the service at BB is much better. We dined early at 4pm, service was great. On the beer, I tried the Double Rye IPA because I'm a bit of a beer snob and an IPA is always my standard by which to judge brew pubs. It didn't knock my socks off, but it is a very decent beer and very reasonable $4.40. Our waitress said it is their best beer (after I ordered it). Atmosphere, pleasant, although I prefer above ground restaurants with windows.

I passed thru Columbia and wanted some good local food and beer. They were running a local morel mushroom special- sautéed in white wine, butter, garlic, greens and served on a croquet. SO BOMB. I had the Lindeman's Lambic, also very good. I was super super disappointed in the pizza I had; mushrooms, greens and cheese over a spicy marinara. After the killer appetizer I was expecting much more than skimpy toppings on thick, unremarkable crust. Service was great for a Thursday night. I'd go again but avoid the pizza.

Broadway Brewery is my favorite brunch place in Columbia. The biscuits with portabella mushroom gravy are amazing. The portions are large enough to split between two people. Brunch is only served on Sundays though, so it can get a little crowded. Get there early or expect a wait. If you get there after 1pm on Sunday, there is live bluegrass music. I put 4 stars instead of 5 because of my non-brunch experiences. One of the best things about Broadway Brewery is they try to cook with local in-season ingredients. Unfortunately, that also means their menu changes often and frequently a dish I loved last time I went was no longer on the menu next time. I am always able to find something good though. Their beer is fine, but not the best microbrew in town. BB can also be a little pricey. It's worth it for the quality of food they serve, but it's not a place you could grab lunch everyday.

Ate dinner at Broadway Brewery for the first time and was impressed. The beer selection was great. For appetizers, we had the fingerling potatoes and the three bean dip which was like hummus and very good. For dinner, I ordered the zucchini arugula salad and chicken with grits. It was fresh and flavorful. My friend ordered the special which was corned beef and cabbage and also very good. The soup of the day was pork and green chilli which had just the right hint of spiciness and smoky flavor. In all, a very good experience and we will definitely be returning there.

Um, I'm not sure why Yelp says they were closed today, but they were open when we showed up! I'm six months prego, so I can't speak about the beer myself. My hubby DID love the cherry saison beer. About four bucks for a glass. I LOVED the steak and beer pizza! Being from San Fran, I've had quite a bit of brewery food and this place was in the top five. It's funny, we were going to go to CJ's wings, which was listed as open but was closed. A kids meal, a pizza (large enough for my hubby and I to share, but I've also had weight loss surgery ) and 3 beers for 37 bucks. Not bad! Service was a wee bit slow, but we went after lunch time in the middle of the week so I'm sure they have less staff, there was only two other tables occupied while we were there. Krissy was very sweet and took good care of us. I can't wait to come back once I poop this kid out!

Generally, when it comes to Columbia I have seen it all. A few tried and true places still impress me--but when I stumble on another place that really stands out. Well, color me shocked. I went to the "B Brew" for my Bachelorette Party and my localvore dinner really hit the spot. We had roasted potato sticks (since they don't own and won't purchase a deep-fryer, awesome!) and a slew of organic burgers made from Missouri grass-fed beef (and only $8!!) and lamb, as well as American organic Kobe. They were all served on glorious old-world style kaisers with local veggies. We toasted with a (again) local pear cider that was truly delightful, even as a non-cider drinker. I noticed they specialized in high-gravity local beers, but didn't partake myself. Go. Go, go, go. Now. You can scout out their specials later.

The black bean and barley burger is terrific. We also had a tasty artichoke dip appetizer. The double IPA and APA are quite good as well; the IPA reminded me of Founders. We experienced quick, friendly service. Even the music is terrific. Go there now!

This is a good restaurant and a fun place to settle in for a good dinner. The menu is good but could use some more variety. I think they change chefs because the food can be hit or miss at times. But the ambiance is very good and the experience always fun.

The Sunday brunch is best at Broadway Brewery; for dinners, this underground spot is too noisy, crowded and overpriced. But for brunch, you can't beat the relaxed atmosphere. It's not too loud, and there's not too many people, and you can eat brunch for about $10-12, including coffee. I had the French toast with scrambled eggs topped with cheese (although I couldn't tell). The coffee is delicious, and the portions will leave you stuffed. My French toast (two large slices) were a bit burnt on the underside, but extra syrup helped. I'd come back to brunch anytime since it's delicious and right down the street from my place. Best brunch in town and the service is always great.

The manager of Broadway Brewery had me leave the restaurant because I fainted. He thought I passed out but I fainted on 12-08-2012. I had an extreme pain in my neck then fainted, hit my head on the table and on the concrete floor. I was laying there for several minutes and instead of making sure I was ok when I woke up the manager said, "You have to leave." I said, "What?" He repeated himself and then escorted me out door. Never in my life have I been treated with such extreme un kindness and un caring individuals. I will never be back, and will tell everyone I know how rude these people are when you have a emergency.

Had a really good cheeseburger here a couple days ago (MO Legacy beef with cheddar cheese, house cured bacon and red onion) with the roasted Yukon Fries as the side order. Fries were pretty tasty even though they don't have a deep fryer. Beer is also good. Had cream ale, APA, and ESB. If you get the chance to come here often be sure to join their "Beer Club".

They have delightful food and great beer, blah, blah, blah....let's talk about what's really important....portabella mushroom gravy! You can taste the high quality cream and butter that make up this super unhealthy, orgasmic, magical dish. Honestly, I would be game to just drink the gravy and forgo the biscuits if that were socially acceptable. One qualm, they only have brunch on Sunday, but I guess that makes the gravy experience all the more special. I realize I might sound somewhat fanatical about this gravy of the gods....but srsly, try it and get back to me.

When I think of middle Missouri, I see rundown rural towns, miles of prairie, and cows. Columbia is an oasis of sorts right smack in the middle of the state. I've been to a lot of breweries in the Midwest, but I never thought I would find one like Broadway Brewery in lil' ol' middle MO. Everything we had was great. We hit it at happy hour, and they have a great deal 4.75 on high gravities and 2.75 on regular drafts. I can't disagree more with the people who are complaining about the prices. From what I can tell, they source locally. That's going to hike the price a tad. And hey! Come to St. Louis some time and eat some high priced crap and you'll be singing a different tune (not to mention that many of the local breweries here don't offer a happy hour...boooo). Broadway Brewery bends the STL beer scene over it's knee, and gives it a swift smack on the tush. Beers tasted: Barleywine English Small Ale APA All were top notch and I am no armature. Most notably, the Barleywine. I had a Flatbranch's Barleywine the day before and it tasted like cheap syrup in comparison. We snacked on the onion and herb pizza and the crust was fresh, no doubt. Other lovelies: -House smoked bacon -House smoked salmon -They offer roasted veggies as a side salad alternative -Creative and tasty looking menu items, multiple meatless options -Legit guest taps -BRUNCH! -Service? Perfect. -Was that the owner I saw at the bar, having a pint with his patrons? I hope so. Hopefully our good experience is a sign things are going better for BB, because I just can't relate to any to the three stars or less reviews. I have never been to a place I liked so much that I considered buying a t-shirt. I wouldn't hesitate to represent for BB any day. Here's my advice, leave Flatbranch to the frat boys and go chill with the grownups at Broadway Brewery. Zing!

I had been waiting all day to try Broadway Brewery. I wanted to like it. No, I really did. The service was killer. It seemed like everyone working there stopped by the table to see if we were enjoying our meal. Not wanting to hurt and disappointment these well-meaning people, we lied...in the beginning. The cilantro chicken wings were bland at best. Not a sign of cilantro, but quite a bit of teriyaki sauce. Teriyaki? Yes, the glazey but tasteless kind. No harm done. Technically they seemed perfect, but without a sign of anything but texture. For my main, I had the Kobe beef burger with a side of mac and cheese. The Kobe burger was not right at all. After smelling it, tasting it, and spending most of the night in the bathroom; I'm pretty sure we have a health violation on our hands. The manager was kind of enough not to make me pay for it, because, as he put it "I didn't like it." Yeah, tonight's quality time with the porcelain god was obviously due to my fussy tastebuds. Half of the mac and cheese lay uneaten, as none of the dining party could stomach its runny mess of over-cooked mush. It's a good thing the manager didn't try very hard to make up for this appalling meal, or I'd feel obliged to give it another shot. If you do decide to take your chances with this place...the deep dish pizza looked much better, and tip your waitress (no matter what your food tastes like or leads to).

Ok, last night was my fifth experience at Broadway Brewery. Here is what I have concluded. I love the location, the atmosphere and the beer, the food....not so much. Service was good. It seems they try and put a gourmet spin on classic dishes, but not in a way that makes sense. I notice a lot of reviewers like the menu and call it "unique". For me, if it doesn't taste good, I call it bad. My food experience has been bascally the same each time: not delicious and way overpriced for what it is. Meatloaf $16? (I suppose it's made with Kobe beef?) Last night I had the pulled pork sandwich paired with baked beans, thinking "how could they screw that up?". It just did not taste very good. They put a 1/4 inch THICK layer of what looked like butter on the bun. It wasn't butter, but it also wasn't good. Again, I didn't even want to finish it. The baked beans were 85% pork and 10% undercooked, crunchy beans. Wished I had ordered the mac-n-cheese until I tasted my son's....very bland, yuck. When I go out to eat I expect it to be better than what I can cook myself. If my food is delicious, I always finish it. Last night, I noticed that no one in our party of four finished their meal, NO ONE! Very unusual. My 16 yr old left half of his burger saying it wasn't very good, didn't like the bun and the Kobe beef was dry. Hint : ditch the Kobe beef and replace it with some other high quality beef that actually has flavor. I will go back to sit at the bar and drink their excellent beer but never, ever to eat again. I love the idea of what they are doing but they don't deliver on taste. I recommend eating somewhere else and coming here for a pint or two. Time to look at replacing the chef in my opinion.

I personally really enjoyed the food -- I had the lamb burger, medium rare with goat cheese, jalapenos and pesto on it. Delicious, and I consider myself to be somewhat of a lamb connisseur, being Armenian and such. The beers were okay. Not bad, but typical craft beer. The service was excellent. My side was a yummy turnip soup. I tried my fiance's ragout -- the sausage was dried out and not very good. Overall, my food and the service were good enough I'll give it 4 stars.

Having heard great reviews from various sources for BB, I knew that my husband and I would have to go there. We both enjoy trying microbrewed, new beers and are always looking for good places to eat. We were disappointed in the beers... not quite up to par yet with Flatbranch but definitely better than Prison Brews in Jeff City. Alot of the darker beers tasted similar and were hard to distinguish from them. And I did not appreciate that you had to look at the chalk board above the bar to see what their "own" beer offerings were (waitress did not seem interested in discussing/telling us about them either) esp since the brand name beers were on a drink menu... It was kinda dark in there and the angle from where we were sitting was not ideal for it... Would it really be that difficult to get mini table chalkboards or centerpieces that hold mini menus? The food on the other hand was a different story. It was great. There focus here is on locally grown/raised and seasonal offerings (tied into what is available). Everyone at my table tried my lamb burger and wished they had ordered it themselves. My dad got a pizza, definitely good to get if you want to save a bit of money and split your meal. My step-mom got the polenta plate, not quite what she expected (never had polenta) and it was good... an excellent option for vegitarians. I forget what the husband got (I think the bison burger... just tasted like a burger), but the maple glazed carrots that he got on the side were wonderful... So my plan of action for next time is to get the Lamb Burger and the Carrots. Hopefully, with subsequent visits the beers will improve... and the star rating will improve... afterall, they are a brewery... the beer is important!

I feel it's important to weigh in because I haven't had a bad experience here in the 4-5 times I've been here. I haven't had bad service yet. I have to wait a little bit longer for food and service somtimes, but this place has been very popular and busy since it opened, so I would expect some delays. As some people have mentioned, it IS is a brand new restaurant, probably experiencing some growing pains. I am somewhat picky about beer, and I really like the beer here, especially the Nut Brown. The food is above-average. It's sort of a Greek-American style upscale bar cuisine. The pizzas are good. I really like this place and will frequent again soon. This is one of Columbia's best.

I stumbled on this place while trying to find a place to watch the second NLCS game between the Cardinals and Phillies. I got a cheeseburger that was supposedly local beef and it was really good. I also got some pan sired fries that were definitely different, but still pretty good. burger was reasonably priced, (about $9) but most of the rest of the items were more on the expensive side.

I didn't realize that I never reviewed BB again... I've been a yelp slacker lately. So I look up places on my phone, but not many reviews lately... Anyway, I have visited BB (as I refer to it in txt msgs) quite often over the last semester. It's become my place of choice for dinner and beer. The IPA is good when its on tap, as are the double and the rye. The APA is pretty solid too. The crowd is sporadic, which is more a problem for the owner than me, but sometimes it may take a min or two for a table. As far as food goes, the pizzas are all good, although they've recently changed, the polenta plate is tasty but spicy, and the specials are often fantastic. I love the effort to support local producers as well. It is definitely well executed, but it could use a patio...

Similar to other reviewers, I am also torn about this place. I love the atmosphere, the beer is good, the food is great, and the location is right on Broadway. The service has been great each time I have been there with a couple of exceptions. UNFORTUNATELY those exceptions happen to be owners or managers who almost ruined the evening for my friends and me. The 2 examples below are just FYI. I am not the only one to complain about similar issues here. Example 1: We were seated in a candle-lit corner having a girls' night out, chatting away, enjoying the ambiance when suddenly a giant flat screen snapped on above our heads throwing light and noise at us. We all turned to see what had happened and 20 feet away stood a man (whom we had seen behind the bar and at the host stand) with a remote control, watching a sports event. NO ONE ELSE was watching. We asked our server if the tv could be turned off, and he found this man wielding the remote and asked on our behalf. The guy was no longer watching the tv but still acted completely annoyed with us and turned off the screen. (Side note to business owners: NOT EVERY BAR AND RESTAURANT NEEDS FLAT SCREEN TELEVISIONS. GET OVER IT. PLEASE!) Example 2: On a different night, the same gentleman described in example 1 was floating around the restaurant. He was obviously drunk. He asked my friend what she thought of his place and then proceeded to harass her, saying rude, somewhat-sexual things to her. Not okay. So my ultimate verdict is that I like the place but there is an owner or manager who is ruining it for everyone. I have no clue what his name is and I don't care to describe or "out" him, but I hope he gets his attitude in check very soon.

I had a really attentive waitress this time. I'm adding a star because it was such a big improvement over last time. I really did not think I was going to be back for a while but I was craving a certain beer. If they could somehow fix the noise issue it wouldn't be so bad to go back every once in a while.

I have been to this bar three times, and I waited to write the review because I had read some of the bad reviews of the service and creepy people lurking about. All three times I have been there the service has been great. The beer is by FAR way better than what Flat Branch has to offer. Also, it is not quite as congested. I have never had the food, we have always just gone for drinks and conversation. They have a very extensive wine/beer list too. Many of which I cannot be found at other bars in Columbia. The atmosphere is great inside the bar too. I really like the simple layout. With just very simple decorations. All the best Broadway Brewery!
