El Charro is a legitimate Mexican restaurant that can be held to the same standard as some of Kansas City's finest. You wouldn't necessarily expect this from a small town place like this, but you won't be disappointed if you give it a shot. All five of our meals here the other day (and always) were prepared well and tasted great. I'm used to Mexican food being brought out almost lightning fast from the kitchen. It's usually frozen and microwaved. I got a little peeved on my last trip here when the order was taking a little longer than usual. About 20 minutes later the food arrived and to my surprise was prepared fresh. You could tell that each item (from taco to tamale, flauta to burrito) had been just wrapped, assembled, or decorated in the back then plated unlike most Mexican fare. El Charro is worth an hour drive from KC to kill some time and get some good food. It's also a great option for I-49 travelers who need a meal and want a place where they aren't going to be judged by the townfolk. It's a quick right on HWY 52 from I-49 and another right about 200 feet later. Quick and easy return to highway access and a great meal to boot. Don't be afraid to dine here and enjoy their phenomenal food, accomplished service, and small town feel.

Came here for dinner, the restaurant was slow probably from everyone being out of town or grilling. We were seated quickly and had our chip's, salsa and drinks at our table with in minutes. I usually have the jailasco special which is delicious but I wanted to live on the wild side this evening and went with the steak feliz. The steak feliz was a thin strip steak (fork cutting tender) with 6 grilled shrimp covered in sautéed onions and mushrooms, it was delicious. The dish came with 2 standard side's, rice and beans, the rice and beans weren't anything special just your standard fair but hey... I cleaned my plate and now have 2 things on the menu that I know are good for my future visits. Are server was friendly and helpful and quick to refill drinks, take our plates. Yes it was a slow evening for them when we got there so our server wasn't getting pulled all over the place, but hey I'll take it. Come here and enjoy.

Stopped in for a late afternoon lunch. I was so hungry I was half way through my meal and remembered "oh crap I forget to take a pic." We live local and have been here before but it had been awhile. Since there is not a lot to choose from around here we usually drive into Kansas City to dine out. We arrived and were promptly greeted at the door and seated. Looks like they have done some remodeling since our last visit. The addition of new booths vs all tables and chairs was really nice. My boyfriend ordered the Jailasco special and boy it looked good. It was a generous portion of shrimp, steak, chicken, onions, bell peppers, and rice with a white cheese sauce. I went the today's special which was a combination platter with a beef taco, burrito, and cheese stuffed fried pablano pepper. There food is pretty good and priced reasonably. Maybe next time I will remember to take some pictures before I eat.

We come here a lot and it's always a pleasant experience. The people who have been working there for forever, are so wonderful I look forward to seeing those guys every time. The newer employees are pretty nice too. The place wasn't packed for a Saturday night but it wasn't empty either. Our waiter was wonderful, my drink was never empty. Not even close to it! I usually order the nacho roble, which is so delicious but this time I tried the charro enchilada. It wasn't the greatest but it wasn't bad either. The chicken inside of it was chewy and the rice that it comes with wasn't that great (but it usually is.) I love their cheese sauce they put on almost everything. But all in all, el charros is probably one of the best places to eat in Butler. (Not that there's a ton of choices to start with. Lol).

I was pleasantly surprised to find decent Mexican food in Butler of all places, where the only other (non mega chain fast food) restaurant is a greasy diner where literally everything on the menu is deep fried (and you can tell that is the main diet in town by the look of the locals). So if you want some real food, and you are in or near Butler, come here! I had a grilled fish dish with refried (no lard!) beans, which admittedly was a custom order. But they did a fan-tastic job, and everyone I was with were really happy with their orders. They have a parking lot out front (Im from Los Angeles where parking lots are almost non existent, so this is a big deal for me!), and it was cool and air conditioned inside on the hot summer day that I was there. My advice to those who own/work there is to do your best at getting a good command of the English language, because you are not going to find Spanish speakers in this area of the world, and people in this area might be prejudice against non English speakers, unlike Southern California where I live, where everyone can at least order their food in Spanish.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
