I love this place, Wendy is my favorite worker she's so sweet. Everything here is delicious and a good price, I've met people from Kansas City who have heard of Kohens and drive down there every once and awhile.
Amazing. We stop in for a sandwich whenever we can and they are always good. Their bake goods are amazing as well. My wife loves the apple fritters and I love their cookies. They have some nice take home items to heat up for yourselves as well. If in Butler, a must stop!
Delicious baked goods to go! I had a gigantic cinnamon roll and ordered a bear claw for later. Man oh man neither one lasted the morning. We stopped here on the way to a hair appointment before a wedding. I am pretty sure these pastries were the only thing that made us able to survive that crazy morning. Amazing texture and flavor at an affordable price.

El Charro

RR 3 Box 494
Butler, 64730
Reviews:
El Charro is a legitimate Mexican restaurant that can be held to the same standard as some of Kansas City's finest. You wouldn't necessarily expect this from a small town place like this, but you won't be disappointed if you give it a shot. All five of our meals here the other day (and always) were prepared well and tasted great. I'm used to Mexican food being brought out almost lightning fast from the kitchen. It's usually frozen and microwaved. I got a little peeved on my last trip here when the order was taking a little longer than usual. About 20 minutes later the food arrived and to my surprise was prepared fresh. You could tell that each item (from taco to tamale, flauta to burrito) had been just wrapped, assembled, or decorated in the back then plated unlike most Mexican fare. El Charro is worth an hour drive from KC to kill some time and get some good food. It's also a great option for I-49 travelers who need a meal and want a place where they aren't going to be judged by the townfolk. It's a quick right on HWY 52 from I-49 and another right about 200 feet later. Quick and easy return to highway access and a great meal to boot. Don't be afraid to dine here and enjoy their phenomenal food, accomplished service, and small town feel.
Came here for dinner, the restaurant was slow probably from everyone being out of town or grilling. We were seated quickly and had our chip's, salsa and drinks at our table with in minutes. I usually have the jailasco special which is delicious but I wanted to live on the wild side this evening and went with the steak feliz. The steak feliz was a thin strip steak (fork cutting tender) with 6 grilled shrimp covered in sautéed onions and mushrooms, it was delicious. The dish came with 2 standard side's, rice and beans, the rice and beans weren't anything special just your standard fair but hey... I cleaned my plate and now have 2 things on the menu that I know are good for my future visits. Are server was friendly and helpful and quick to refill drinks, take our plates. Yes it was a slow evening for them when we got there so our server wasn't getting pulled all over the place, but hey I'll take it. Come here and enjoy.
Stopped in for a late afternoon lunch. I was so hungry I was half way through my meal and remembered "oh crap I forget to take a pic." We live local and have been here before but it had been awhile. Since there is not a lot to choose from around here we usually drive into Kansas City to dine out. We arrived and were promptly greeted at the door and seated. Looks like they have done some remodeling since our last visit. The addition of new booths vs all tables and chairs was really nice. My boyfriend ordered the Jailasco special and boy it looked good. It was a generous portion of shrimp, steak, chicken, onions, bell peppers, and rice with a white cheese sauce. I went the today's special which was a combination platter with a beef taco, burrito, and cheese stuffed fried pablano pepper. There food is pretty good and priced reasonably. Maybe next time I will remember to take some pictures before I eat.

Walked in to a clean store with friendly staff, I ordered the Italian bmt. The sandwich was made quickly and properly. I would assume all subway restaurants are roughly the same, nothing fancy nothing bland just a place to grab a quick sandwich and be on your way. Oh, my sandwich was good.

Always great food. Always great service. Great place to dine in or take home. Never had a bad experience. Thanks Miles! Bob
Been here many of times usually for their breakfast item's. Their staff is friendly and makes my request for toasty toaster breakfast sandwiches. I usually get a breakfast toaster or super sonic breakfast burrito. They offer a item that's not on the menu called extreme tots, they are tater tots, cheese, chili, jalapeño and onions...... All I can say it is delicious. I know times have changed from my first time going to sonic when I was in high school, but it just seems that the prices are a little high for what you get.
Good service, clean, nice people!

Flaming Lantern

1104 W Fort Scott St

Reviews:
This review is particularly aimed at travelers on I-49 (71). I've been traveling to Butler, MO for the last 10 years to visit my wife's grandmother. No visit to Butler is complete without a trip to the Lantern. If you are traveling up 49/71 and need a good place to stop for some good food, this place is for you. The worst part about traveling out of your comfort zone/neighborhood is trying to find good food on the road where you can eat reasonably and not feel like an outsider, especially in a small town like Butler. The Lantern is a good spot for a homestyle meal where you can get in and out pretty quickly with a full stomach for the road. We normally settle for fast food or in car options, but if you are passing through Butler around lunch or dinner time, feel confident in TFL. They've recently updated their menu. Expect to see small town favorites like chicken fried steak, burgers, and tenderloin sandwiches. They've also added some BBQ options that are pretty good as well. Dinners here (larger meals) come with a side and a trip to the salad bar (meager compared to other spots). Meals are also served with delicious homemade rolls. Servers are always friendly and willing to accommodate special requests. It is not, however, a place where you can expect five star treatment. This is Butler - don't walk in here and act like a big city foodie on a mission to find the missing link of cuisine. Don't be surprised to have folks stare a bit - if you're not from Butler, they'll know. But a friendly nod or "hello" goes a long way in this Bates County seat. Butler folks are good people and have a high level of highway traffic pass through daily. TFM is only 500 feet off the highway exit and is easy to maneuver back on the road once you are finished. Don't be bashful, eat at the Lantern. It's the best restaurant in town and very easy to navigate from the highway.
My wife, five month old daughter and myself stopped here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon as we were driving through on our way up to Kansas City. On a Sunday, this was one of the few local non-fast food restaurants open so it was our best option for lunch. It was definitely a place the locals go to but we definitely felt welcomed! The food was good, we both had the chicken fried chicken sandwich and both enjoyed it! The service was also really good! Our only real complaint for this place is, traveling with a 5 month old we have come to expect most restaurants and stores to have changing stations in at least one of the bathrooms, this place didn't have any.
Been coming here for years and it's always had good food and friendly service. There menu could be bigger but what they have on it, it's really good. I got a mushroom burger my wife got club sandwich and my daughter got the cowboy burger.

Chicken Larry’s

Reviews:
I used to eat here when it was Sam's highway burger and loved it. I believe it's now run by another family member, I have only made it to chicken larry's one time since they have reopened and I was in the mood for a pork tenderloin sandwich with some tater tots and fried mushrooms and onion rings (the girlfriend ordered the same sandwich.... I dont want to sound like a piggy). When we got home with our food the sides were nice and hot but kind of small in size, the pork tenderloin sandwich we ordered I wasn't overly impressed with, I guess I was looking for more out of it but it fell in line with a fast food sonic style tenderloin. There wasn't really anything wrong with the sandwich itself, may be it was me expecting more. When it was Sam's highway burger I always ordered the greasy cheeseburgers, so I will give Chicken Larry's another try on their cheeseburgers and some of their other items they have and go from there. Maybe I need to try this broasted chicken....
Every time I come here the fries are always soggy from grease. Yuck! The staff isn't very friendly. But I heard they have good milkshakes and their chicken sandwiches are pretty good.
I drive a hour for this chicken. It's work it to me. Tried another place out of state. Nothing like my first. Valerie the owner won't give me or Tyson Chicken the secret.
