The Fred has more than filled the void left by Glenn's move to Columbia. The menu is diverse and the meals are fabulous. The atmosphere in the dining room is historic and relaxed. The bar service is a high point as well. The Fred has quickly become our go to restaurant for all occasions. If you're out on a Sunday, the brunch offers an appetizing variety of entrees, salads, and desserts. Best restaurant in Boonville!

On a long road trip, decided to get off 1-70 for something other than fast food. The Fred was an option...and definitely wasn't fast. The Fred is located in a beautiful old hotel, in a room that takes you back in time with wooden floors, large windows, and tin ceilings. The menu items were described as handcrafted items...but we found most of them to miss the mark. The chicken sandwich was tasteless and the grilled cheese wasn't quite there with the melting of the cheeses or the toasting on the outside of the bread. The tomato bisque was really the only gem. The prices were OK...so it wasn't a total disappointment. There is potential if the chef can bring the flavors.

The drinks and atmosphere are amazing here! Jeremiah made our experience at The Fred totally memorable. You must try the Spa Tini over ice, Gin Basil Fizz, the margarita (house made sweet and sour), and end the night with a Manhattan. You will not be disappointed with any of those! Be sure to nibble on the steak sliders and the goat cheese flatbread.

We were looking for a lunch place when I was showing my parents around the area. After stopping into Boonville and only finding a couple potentially questionable main street establishments, The Fred seemed like the best option. A simple menu greeted us with some unique and very good looking choices (Chicken and Wafflewich?). I decided on the Pear and Gorgonzola Burger and the butternut squash bisque as a side. Both were great choices. The burger comes plain with fresh fixings to the side. The soup was well seasoned and the perfect temperature. I ordered a coffee as well and having it black offered my tastebuds a smooth and full coffee experience. The prices were incredibly reasonable and the service was relaxed and enjoyable. The only downsides were that the burger came back a bit more done than ordered and the server was alone and juggling all the tables which meant waiting occasionally. But nothing worth lowering their score from 5 stars.

I came to The Fred with a few others looking for a nice meal that wasn't your typical greasy spoon or fast food, a rare unicorn in these parts to be sure. Since The Fred is located in the hôtel de ville, traditionally speaking, this should be the classiest place in town. Well, they'd like you to believe that, but I think it's been a couple of generations since anyone around knows what class really is. The menu options seemed like a well diversified menu with choices for just about everyone. I ordered the blackened fish, and my friend ordered the sirloin, medium rare. I have to say that my fish was probably the saltiest thing I've ever tasted in my life, and the steak was as tough as shoe leather. We had to send them back. Even my sides were poorly prepared: the asparagus was mushy, and the fingerling potatoes were drier than a mummy's innerds. I even asked for a side of BBQ sauce that never arrived. We also ordered a bottle of wine, and our first SIX choices weren't available! What we finally got was not presented to us or poured properly, and tasted like it had spent the last two years next to a radiator. Now, I may be a little picky, but I at the very least expect a chef to know how to cook. And if you are going to charge three times the retail price of a bottle of wine, please train your employees to show and serve the bottle correctly. You aren't a fancy restaurant just because you're located in a historic building, you actually have to provide food and service that are worth the prices you charge. I am not the type to send food back if it can be eaten, but I had to send it back this time, and apparently the chef punched the wall in a fit of rage when our dishes were sent back. I hate to think of what was done to my dish as revenge. So to those working here, please put in an effort to make Booneville a place worth visiting. And for those visiting, eat at The Fred at your own risk.

Lovely restaurant concept with fantastic ambiance and history oozing from the entire hotel! The wait staff was quite nice. Our waitress was accommodating and attentive to our needs...thank you Taylor! The food is another story... The dinner bread is served room temp and tasteless. The butter pads are presented beautifully but do nothing to enhance the bread. We ordered a Caesar salad for a starter. May I remind the chef that Caesar salad dressing's base ingredient is not Kraft's Mayonnaise but rather anchovies, lemons and fresh spices. The mayonnaise/cream "dressing" was almost intolerable. The final course we suffered through was the worst dinner entree I've been served in a number of years... I ordered the Turkey Avocado sandwich with Garlic Mashers. I'll begin with saying I'm so happy they leave a pitcher of water on your table at the beginning of the meal...we drank the entire thing trying to wash down each bite. The food staff should work on cooking fresh potatoes every day rather than putting the left overs in the microwave. I managed three bites before giving up. The ground turkey was cooked to the flavor of dirt and was piled with processed cheese. I've been served desert sand with more flavor and moisture. Lastly, the truffle fries are less than stellar and grilled cheese can easily be outdone (as per my dinner date). The lady at the front desk would greatly benefit from a new personality and learning to greet people. Great concept but huge failure. Strongly recommend a fast food joint over this place.

Best brown butter salmon entree I ever had! The crab cakes are to die for. Try the trout or wild chicken with mushrooms. Great service an ambience.

We found the Fred by accident, but I'm happy we did. Not much is open in downtown Boonville on a Sunday evening, so despite hearing that the Fred was quite pricy, we decided to check it out. The building is a beautiful historic hotel which retains the charming details of a previous era. We sat in the bar area, and on the weekend there is a reduced menu (but not reduced in quality). Our server/bartender was excellent and the food was outstanding. The prices were quite reasonable as well. For two people, our bill totaled $33, including an appetizer, dessert, and coffee. I would highly recommend this restaurant - awesome service, awesome food, and awesome atmosphere!
