A diamond in the ruff! This restaurant is right off Highway 135 in MO and is truly worth the drive to. The owners and waitstaff provide you with a comfortable and delicious home-cooked meal. They are friendly and work their hardest to provide you with the best service. This quaint eatery has a lot of character. There are two main dining areas, decorated country-like. It is spacious and cozy. The spinach salad was one of the best I've had and the cobbler tasted like it was made with love.

Love this place! Delicious Food and awesome service!
The "WJ's Burger" was an almost spiritual event for me. If you've had the "Royal Red Robin" then you're close to this but still not as good. The difference in quality and deliciousness would be akin to that of Outback Steakhouse as compared to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Both burgers are good, but the WJ's Burger is HOLY CRAP good. I seriously held off on the final bite because I didn't want it to end. On the down side, to call the service slow would be like calling a hurricane windy. Nobody in my group ordered anything that should have justified the wait we experienced. Not everyone enjoyed their meal quite as much. The chicken on the Nachos was apparently questionable but the chicken sandwich got good review. I and one other person in our group of 7 got the WJ's Burger and we both were enraptured. Nobody else seemed quite as impressed. So, if you're looking for an almost life changing burger... do not pass go. Proceed directly here.
This place was a nice surprise. We enjoyed the New Year's eve menu was delicious. We enjoyed the scallops and the sweet and spicy ribs.

Nice historical spot, good Philly cheese steak sammich, curly fries and pickle fries. Cold beer and a full bar.
Good eats. My husband had the Royal w/cheese burger. Handmade patty cooked perfectly. I had the chicken Philly (no bread). Very tasty, seasoned well. Our server, Tiffany, was awesome. Will be back next time we're antiquing in Boonsville.
Not a good place for salads. I stopped in after a long ride on the Katy trail hoping to dive into a big plate of greens, but was sadly disappointed. I added chicken, bringing my total up to $13, but the amount of salad was far far less than I would have expected. For the size, I would have paid $7 with the chicken but nothing more. The flavor was there, but again, hardly anything to fill me up for an entree. That said, it seems the other food is great and if I'm ever in Boonville again I will for sure get something else. The poor salads are just not the high point at this restaurant :(

The Fred

Reviews:
The Fred has more than filled the void left by Glenn's move to Columbia. The menu is diverse and the meals are fabulous. The atmosphere in the dining room is historic and relaxed. The bar service is a high point as well. The Fred has quickly become our go to restaurant for all occasions. If you're out on a Sunday, the brunch offers an appetizing variety of entrees, salads, and desserts. Best restaurant in Boonville!
On a long road trip, decided to get off 1-70 for something other than fast food. The Fred was an option...and definitely wasn't fast. The Fred is located in a beautiful old hotel, in a room that takes you back in time with wooden floors, large windows, and tin ceilings. The menu items were described as handcrafted items...but we found most of them to miss the mark. The chicken sandwich was tasteless and the grilled cheese wasn't quite there with the melting of the cheeses or the toasting on the outside of the bread. The tomato bisque was really the only gem. The prices were OK...so it wasn't a total disappointment. There is potential if the chef can bring the flavors.
The drinks and atmosphere are amazing here! Jeremiah made our experience at The Fred totally memorable. You must try the Spa Tini over ice, Gin Basil Fizz, the margarita (house made sweet and sour), and end the night with a Manhattan. You will not be disappointed with any of those! Be sure to nibble on the steak sliders and the goat cheese flatbread.

Easily one of the worse in the area....
Good stopping point between St Louis and KC - options thin out west of here. I've stopped here many times over the years. Solid option. Have not had issues.

Food was decent but service was absolutely horrible. I witnessed several customers leave halfway through the line to go purchase food at the adjoining gas station, to give you an indication of how bad it was. By the way, you guys are out of ketchup. I wasn't about to hold up the line any more and who knows how long it would've taken to get it refilled. Very disappointing, even by fast food standards.
Under no circumstance should a line of customers in a fast food restaurant have to wait 15 minutes to make an order, wait again to get their food, and then discover the condiment table to be completely empty. Even in the busiest of hours is it not acceptable (albeit slightly more understandable) but at 2pm on a holiday, it just reeks of bad management. But the real kicker for me was the man who waited forever for a burger and a 10 piece nugget, only to have the burger not get made at all. So while they made the burger, his 10 piece nugget gets put on someone else's tray, and of course his order was to go, so minutes after he leaves the crew is running around trying to figure out who this other 10 piece nugget belongs to. Apparently the 5 times the man repeated his order, plus the three times he told the manager what he was waiting on all led up to this man not getting half of his two item order. Ridiculous. So glad I was only passing thru on my way back to STL from KC. If I had to go thru this for a Baconator I would never get one again!
Horrible! I won't waste too much of my time writing this. 1) Unsweetened ice tea tasted like it was mixed with coffee. 2) No straw for my drink 3) No spoon for my chili. 4) No crackers for my chili 5) Took forever Should have listened to the previous reviews.
