This place has the most cozy atmosphere! When you combine that with the amazing food they prepare, you can tell that much more than ingredients went into your visit. Everything from the craft beer selection to the tasteful decorations make this location a NECESSITY when in the area, OR even if driving through! Be sure to call ahead as seating is limited, but worth it!
Best smoked meats I've had. Great friendly service. Make reservations to make sure that you get in, they have a limited amount of meat every day, and when they are out, they're out.
The good: great food, local owners smoking it like they should, cute, nice bathrooms, outdoor seating. The bad: busy and only the owners working sometimes (don't order the grilled cheese if you want to eat within an hour of ordering and they have more than one other customer in house - we didn't find that out until AFTER a 40 minute wait that made us late for a wedding rehearsal), can't rely on their hours as they "close when sold out"

We went to dinner last night at The Boulders, and it was really great. It's been a while since I, a chronic Yelp taker, have written a review, but this restaurant looked like it deserved one, with only 2 in the bank and none very recent. Four stars rather than five only for the somewhat odd arugula salad starter. It had cheese, tomatoes, and dried fruit, all great on their own but a little overwrought together. My group split two of these, a shame as I bet the other starters would have impressed a little more. Because the mains were fabulous. I had cornmeal(?)-crusted walleye, with the wild rice medley as the "potato" side, and it was just wonderful. Think: a delicate, sensible take on fish & chips without the malt vinegar. It didn't need it! I found only two tiny bones in a very sensible if slightly too ample portion. Awesome. My companions had grouper and seafood paella, both also great choices. The restaurant has a decent sized bar, which is where we ate, along with a large single dining room in the same space. It got a little noisy, but nothing beyond the pale. I'd definitely go there again.
Ate there 2 times in 2013 and 2 times in 2014 while staying at a resort in Hackensack. I was really surprised to find a really nice, upscale restaurant in this part of MN. I had 4 different entrees and all 4 were satisfactory. The ahi appetizer was just okay. Did not meet my expectations because of the coating. Had the crab encrusted grouper but only gave it a C+. Had a filet mignon but it didn't have a lot of taste and I gave it another C+. Had the Penne Jambalaya and it was great. Gave it an A. Best meal was the beef short rib dinner special. It was magnificent. Gave it an A+. Would highly recommend it. Regardless of the two average meals I would still recommend the Boulders. It is a real jewel. The bar, ambience, and management are super and completely unexpected. I highly recommend the Boulders if you are in the area. Hard to find but if you Google Earth it you will find it with no problem. Also, almost forgot to talk about the bread and dipping oil that contained olive oil, parmesan cheese, and probably some type of red pepper. Great way to start the meal. You will not be disappointed if you eat there. Pretty crowded around 5:00 PM because of their Senior's Menu. 6:00 or later would be a better bet unless you are an oldster.
Have eaten supper at The Boulders on several occasions while spending time at our Cass County cabin. Each time we were treated to exceptional service, a wide choice of menu items and excellently prepared entrees. Our last visit was during the annual Walker Eelpout Festival and we made reservations for six. A comfortable round table was set for us at the allotted time and once we were seated the rest of the evening just flowed. I had one of the largest walleye filets ever and it was pan fried to perfection. Other guests in our party enjoyed sirloin and a delicious rib eye steak. For an appetizer we shared sushi grade ahi tuna which was prepared beautifully, and was just a delight to consume. Our wait person was attentive to all our requests, never intrusive, but always on hand to keep things moving smoothly throughout our meal. Gone are the days when heading to the north country meant abandoning all hopes of a truly great dining experience. The Boulders is squarely on an equal footing with the best its city cousins have to offer with the added bonus of a truly rustic setting in a welcoming and unique location near spectacular Leech Lake.

So you want to be a "Baller" and win big at the same time... Welcome to the Northern Light's Casino. The Leech Lake area is home to the Anishinaabe to well over 1800 gaming machines and over 2 dozen live action tables, a poker room for Texas Hold'em, not to mention seating for over 1000 in the bingo hall. Joining the winners club is free and there are always at least several promotions going on at any given time. There is a full amenities hotel (105 rooms) complete with full service restaurants as well as fast food and kiddie (arcade) areas. They have a full size pool, a sauna and a jacuzzi. I have been here at least a hundred times as I go up to the "rez" several times a year to see family. I can honestly say that the machines are loose as I have parlayed a few dollars into a few hundred dollars more times than I can actually remember. I may be lucky, and I may have the gift of vision, but I was not there for "a pick up" at the time, and still I won big! I am certain that this will not be everyone's experience, but there are losers in this world and maybe they should not gamble in the first place. Come on in to Leech Lake Reservations largest and best casino and enjoy the action!
My first time at a casino with someone who knows their way around. The only reason we went here was because of a $5 off coupon. It actually ended up costing her .12 once the point on the card kicked in, so it was worth it for that. This particular buffet was lousy. The only thing I liked was the macaroni salad. Indian casino doesn't equal good wild rice hotdish in this case. Most protein is dry, fish, chicken, don't bother even if you get a deal. Glad I only took a couple of bites of what I did choose. I liked the smaller size of the casino itself. My twenty bucks would have been better thrown away on the slot machines.
Just had breakfast in the Dancing Fire restaurant!! We had Darla as our waitress she was fantastic our food was very fresh and hot and well prepared! The dinner there is very delicious . Tracy is another wonderful server.highly recommended if you are in the area!!

Came based on the positive reviews as well as the local suggestions. I agree the pizza was fantastic. I disagree that the service is slow! We were greeted right away when we chose our seat. Very friendly service who guided us to the perfect choice (10" Minnesota Island with stuffed crust). Perfect for 2 adults! Waited about 15 minutes. Not bad. $34.23 for 4 beers and great pizza seemed reasonable to us. Would definitely return if I lived here.
Excellent pizza & family friendly ambience - not 5 stars because slow service on Sat afternoon / but packed! Kid friendly! Staff friendly too - will return! HUGE food selection with creative locations as the food names.
Ok so I have been coming here for the last 4 years when I'm in the area for work and have never had a bad experience. Also who cares if the pizza is cut into squares. We got a stuffed crust pizza and 3 of us ate half of it maybe service was quick and on point.

Awesome Long Island Ice Tea for $5 on Friday. Their walleye tacos are very good. The only complaint would be that the cole slaw used was too runny with mayo but a little better draining of the cole slaw is all that is needed to correct. Our bartendar/waiter was very quick and friendly with his service. The bar is a little dive but the service and food exceed what is expected of them. The 502 Bar down the street located in the Chase Hotel could learn a think or too about service.
I want to say this was a great place and a great atmosphere. Andrea if you read this thanks for the smile and being introduced to everyone. The place is like any small town watering hole. The front area looks nice kind of a small bar though only seats 10 i think. But pleanty of seating everywhere else. As i was driving from duluth to fargo did not partake in alcohol consumption. I had a burger with fries. Fries were good and burger was solid. Juicy and done medium i like medium rare but medium is in my opinion a perfectly good option for a burger. What sttuck me were the wings. Crispy and flavorful on outside i had the buffalo and jerk. Jerk flavor was the best i even ordered some to go and eat later they were that good. Not the best wings i have ever ate, but they are up there in top 3. This was just a pleasant surprise on a 4 to 5 hour drive from fargo to duluth and back. This place is a great choice butit is a bar, so maybe not great for kids. The menu is not huge but personally to me that says to me they want to do a couple of things well and not have a crowded menu. Definitely recommend. Also walker seems like a good town to actually have a mini weekend vacation.
"BEST" Wallieye fish tacos I ever had ! California I'm very disappointed this is not you & I have to wait til I visit Minnesota to eat here again. This is not even a fish you can get in CA . Bummer . Little hole in the wall . Just by chance we ate here while we were in the town of Walker , MN . Thank you ! It was sooooo good ! Oh ! The Kringle French Fries were out of this world , too .

We stop here every year when we vacation in Minnesota. The Lucky Moose never fails! Be patient they are usually packed on the bar side with only the bartender waiting and serving but it is always worth the wait!! Thursday's is half price appetizers!! We always have the walleye cakes which are divine and the nachos are amazing!! My sons have to have a bison burger every time we go! I don't think we have ever ordered anything that we didn't like!! A must stop in Walker, MN!!
I love cabins, and this is the decor. We all enjoyed our meal. I had up North Wild Rice bangers and mash that I loved. It's right next to a hotel. They even do their own ice cream. The service was kind of interesting. My friend who's also a comedian, said that it reminded her of a Seinfeld episode.
Just running through town and needed a salad to go. Ordered gorgonzola pear salad. It was sooooo good!!!! Reasonably priced and the service was good too. I will be back on my next business trip!

Go here alllllllll the time when I'm at the cabin, and my parents are personal friends of Charlie himself. They run a pretty good establishment... nice place, great food and great prices. Casual, family-friendly and cozy atmosphere. The walls are adorned with animal skins, fish, deer heads, you name it. Darts and shuffleboard for the kids. Summer is great when they open the boat bar. Sometimes they'll have a DJ and Karaoke. We've had some fun times there. If you're staying in the area you really can't leave without visiting Charlie's. It's the best spot in Walker for a good time, and super convenient if you're planning to hop over to the casino after a good meal!! I recommend the buffalo wings, the ribs, the steaks, the chicken cordon bleu sandwich, and the breakfast buffet! Yum!
The food is pretty good but the service is bizarre. Heard a lot of F-Bombs coming from the kitchen..especially while we were waiting for our silverware. When our salads were served and the waitress told us she was going to 'search' for some--she wasn't kidding. Finally we got some silverware but wow that was wild...apparently they had been 'slammed' prior to our arrival. Anyway on to the food. I had the broasted chicken and it was juicy and very tasty!! A wonderful surprise after the other hijinx. My husband and daughter had the Philly sandwich. The sandwich was piled high with an amazing roast beef, the bread was great and super filling. The French fries were perfect. Not too soft and not too overdone. Just right. My other daughter had Fish & Chips. The breeding on the fish was light and so so good. Very happy with her meal! When our check came another waitress brought it to us and didn't divide it up. Seemed like some unusual power play. We asked for it to be re-divided up and our original waitress came back with the correct bills. Bizarre. When it was all said and done our experience was super-strange but our food was great! Will we be back???hmm I think they need some help with their management.
On the way to Walker, shortly after you pass Nisswa, you'll start seeing the signs for Charlie's. Once you arrive in Walker and take a left, start looking on your left, don't go to fast or you'll pass it. We had lunch here. I got a philly sandwich that was delicious. I sampled some waffle fries. Believe it or not, I'm not the french fry type. These are perfection and next time I will always order them. A good size restaurant that has a bar area division. Service was very good as well.
