This place has the most cozy atmosphere! When you combine that with the amazing food they prepare, you can tell that much more than ingredients went into your visit. Everything from the craft beer selection to the tasteful decorations make this location a NECESSITY when in the area, OR even if driving through! Be sure to call ahead as seating is limited, but worth it!

Best smoked meats I've had. Great friendly service. Make reservations to make sure that you get in, they have a limited amount of meat every day, and when they are out, they're out.

The good: great food, local owners smoking it like they should, cute, nice bathrooms, outdoor seating. The bad: busy and only the owners working sometimes (don't order the grilled cheese if you want to eat within an hour of ordering and they have more than one other customer in house - we didn't find that out until AFTER a 40 minute wait that made us late for a wedding rehearsal), can't rely on their hours as they "close when sold out"

My wife and I are visiting her parents in nearby Steamboat Lake and as a native of North Carolina I was shocked to hear that there was a local BBQ joint around the area. At first glance, the place is very inviting from the outside and as you walk in you immediately feel like you're in a cozy log home. The husband and wife who own it are even more inviting and kind. Most importantly, the food is DELICIOUS! Make sure you order a refreshing draft root beer in a frosted mug! The Carolina pulled pork sandwich gives North Carolina bbq a run for its money. We also had the brisket, baked beans and cornbread- perfection! Thanks for a great experience. When you're in Walker, MN, don't skip THE PIGGY!

AMAZING!! Honestly the best pulled pork sandwhich and corn bread I've ever had, plus a super fun environment. Bitchey older lady works there though... Watch out!

The most delicious smoked pulled pork, cold smoked turkey and brisket! Yes there is southern flavor hiding out in 'Norsota'. Do yourself a favor, make a reservation and get ready for some tender, flavorful smoked goodness!

We decided to try this place for lunch, against the advice of several locals. We had heard tales of long waits and poor service and both were evident within two minutes of our arrival. The girl that greeted us from behind the bar was pleasant enough so we thought we'd sit and have a beer during the 45 minute back-up, despite plenty of empty seating. However we were intercepted by an older woman who made it very clear she didn't want us to wait so we promptly moved along. I would imagine in a town the size of Walker business shouldn't be taken for granted.

Best ribs I've ever had and phenomenal customer service. Eat like an absolute king for $20. These guys rock!

Terrible customer service. Servers as a-holes and no idea if they can handle running a business. Different story from everyone there. I was told "people just know we can't do to-go for lunch" when they are only open for lunch. Not worth the attitude when I'm trying to enjoy a nice family vacation.

Good maybe good (& it is) but the owners are complete JERKS! Never been treated with such disrespect. I am sure they will stay in business because the foods good, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings in the least the if the next time we came up to Walker it was closed permanently. Seems like bad service is kind of a trend.

Now most food reviews on done Post eating But I never even steep foot in the PIGGY I was in town and wanted to stop by for lunch , but my friend is vegetarian so I had to pass. But I'm a huge professional BBQ eater born in deep south. GO LSUBut it was just fate I meet the owner at airport leaving back to OHIO and his joy for the good food he makes sold me on a return vist See y'all soon

Best pulled pork I have had since moving up from Louisiana. Fork tender, pulled fresh for your order so the meat is moist. When you bite, it's so tender you bite right through without any gristly, stringy bits. With a bit of their creamy slaw on top it's sheer, meaty BBQ heaven!

Great food great place but the owner's wife should work as a Maytag Repairman - where she doesn't have to come in contact with humans, she doesn't know how to smile, greet or be civil. Be warned . . . . the food is good but avoid the grey haired ogre!

BBQ!! Yep, in Northern Minnesota! You walk up to the storefront and you are directed to go between buildings and enter before you hit the smoker...into a side door! They get there early and smoke their ribs, pork shoulder and brisket daily. We pulled in off of Leech Lake from ice fishing and saw some lights on in this place. Went in and the first question you ask is whats left? Apparently everything sells out daily, and one taste and the reason is obvious! I had a beer and my buddy had one also. I ordered a brisket sandwich ($6.00) and he got a pulled pork sandwich ($5.00) and a couple of beers. The waitress (co-owner) said there may only be enough brisket for one sandwich, maybe not) The chef/owner came out and explained that the meat wasn't typical brisket, but juicy and pulled rather than sliced. Would I be ok with that? SURE! Well a few minutes later he was out with the sandwich, bread was soft, flavorful, some kind of locally made white bread dinner roll or something or other. Meat was plentiful and piled next to the bread and cole slaw on the plate. While we were waiting she brought a basket of flavored kettle chips and BBQ to the bar and we drank beers and ate chips. My buddy didn't get the sandwich, he got just a plate of pulled pork but he said it was great. Sure looked like a lot of meat, and looked tender and juicy. Staff was friendly, competent in a family owned store kind of way and entertaining. There were locals in there ordering To-Go stuff and while we were eating one of them called back and said they forgot to put something ordered in the bag. The owner was ready to take off his apron and run to meet them in the next town over, and bring the small plate of whatever was forgotten, but another patron was going that way so volunteered to drop it off. Great small town place, I hope no one finds it. I said I was going to write a review and the owner said not to do him any favors. This is his hobby and he didn't want to have to work too hard. SO stay away from this place! Food is great, its a local find and they don't have a monster sized smoker, so I want there to be some BBQ when I come in from fishing this summer!! 2 beers and 2 good sized meals twenty something dollars. Very reasonable!!

We went with a large group, and waited for quite a while to be served.. So when you go, be sure to allow for enough time to enjoy yourself. You won't regret waiting - the food is absolutely awesome! We had ribs, pork, and brisket, beans, coleslaw, and corn bread. Everything was so delicious! We'll definitely go back, even if we have to wait a little while!

The owners are VERY nice people and will do everything they can to accommodate a customer. The ribs and sides are incredible!! I wish they were open in the "off" season too.

This place is amazing along with the proprietors! The service and food consistently EXCEEDS all expectations. The ribs and pulled pork are our favorite! You will never be disappointed unless they run out! We've had BBQ all over the US and this simply can't be beat! We love this place! The pork and meaty ribs along with every freshly made side (corn bread, coleslaw and beans are spectacular! The attention to detail to make sure each meal, beer and side are served fresh and with the highest quality makes this a place we go to very frequently. Hugh thanks to Steve and Kathy for a truly outstanding BBQ restaurant! WE LOVE IT!

The best barbecue I've had in Minnesota. If you can get them, try the burnt ends. The brisket, pulled pork, beans, and corn bread are also excellent. We were given complimentary kettle chips and a stack of quarters for each kid (for the small game room) upon arrival. Reservations are a must. Dozens of people were turned away before noon on a Wednesday because they didn't have one.

I have a feeling that the owners may be writing the negative reviews in an effort to tame the amount of traffic this place gets. We arrived in town Saturday afternoon and stopped in without a reservation. The owner greeted us outside, explained that reservations are needed b/c they only cook so much meat per day and he was sold out for the day. Totally understand, no worries - we will make reservations and try again later in the week. He mentioned he was working on a private order, had some things cooking and proceeded to invite us in and he could cook something up for us - what a jerk! We went in, ordered drinks and meals that were served quickly and politely. They also had the audacity to give our children quarters to play the video games in the front room. The food... Don't even get me started on the delicious bbq that Jesus himself must have come down from heaven to bless. Brisket... Good. Ribs... Good. Pulled pork... Good. To sum it up, do yourself a favor - make reservations and check this place out if you are in the mood for bbq while visiting Leech Lake, driving through Walker or just happen to be any where near Minnesota.

FANTASTIC meal! We had 10 people dine at the bar who enjoyed ribs, brisket, and turkey caesar salad. Steve and Kathy (owners) are the BEST! Ribs were smokey and tender. Be sure to get the corn bread (with Tupelo honey). IMPORTANT: make reservations!! Maybe even days before you drive north. Otherwise, you could miss out----their meat sells out FAST....everyday. Steve and Kathy, thanks for your GREAT food! Be patient! The food is worth the wait. If you are in a hurry, don't go. If you have the time, you'll enjoy great smoked meat.

Outstanding pulled pork and ribs!!! Husband and wife team was great...and busy. Couldn't believe how tender and delicious the pulled pork is. You need a reservation in order to be sure you can get the pulled pork sandwiches. They serve from 11:00 until it's gone and it goes fast. You cannot go wrong here.

What a place! We stopped in for lunch last weekend and were blown away by the entire experience. Not only was the food amazing - we enjoyed a brisket sandwich, a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and an incredible slice of buttermilk pie. But beyond the food, we left feeling inspired by the owners. The husband and wife owners of The Piggy truly believe in making people happy with food. They don't want to turn tables quickly, they want their guests to feel welcome. They treated us as though we were friends they hadn't seen in a while. As someone who loves food and loves to cook, I admire these folks. They are living my personal dream - running a little spot, just the two of them, serving incredible food and doing it their way. The second we walked out of the restaurant, I turned to my husband and said "You know this is how I want to retire, right?" Certainly an experience I'll remember!

OINK indeed! We were major piggys at The Piggy in Walker, MN! We got up late on a Sunday morning and wanted some brunch, but by noon, there was no place that we found serving, so we roamed up and down the streets looking for something and stumbled about this cute little log cabin with the cutest piggy sign on the front and thought "hmm, if we can't do brunch, barbeque kind of sounds good!" And good it was indeed! You go in and order and all of their menu has been fresh smoked that day so they put your meal together sans the wonderful barbeque sauce, but they give you a good cup full of the sauce and then they put one of their bottles (which they actually sell as well) on the table and you can drown your pork or brisket or other meat in the stuff. Its seriously amazing sauce and I've had sauce around the country. Who knew Minneosta would be such a contender! They also have some good root beer on tap and the cole slaw ranks pretty high with me. We ended up enjoying our meal outside - there are some tables by the side of the building and if you roam there with your pooch, they'll give him a big bowl of water. The inside is cute and clean and new as well. Take a wander down the main street and then take a break and be a Piggy at The Piggy!

I don't know how the BBQ tastes because I was turned away at the door. We were told there was nothing to eat unless we had made reservations. The dining area was almost empty. This was at 1:15pm on a Saturday during peak tourist season. I emailed the address on the extremely sparse website and received a reply the next day stating they like it that way. "It is a nice feeling" was the exact quote. I support local businesses and would like to see this place survive. So I recommend calling in advance to make sure you have a table (and food.)
