Delicious burgers, no more needs to be said.

It's a chain - so I'm not overwhelmed by it. That being said, I've gone here a hand full of times since this location opened and each time the crew is very friendly and fast, it's clean and the food is hot, fresh and fast. It's definitely greasy and messy, but it hits the spot when that's what you're looking for. Definitely get smash fries - they are probably the highlight of this place.

I try not to make chain restaurants part of my hamburger rotation but every time I eat at Smashburger it's delicious. My usual now is a Smashchicken won an onion bun with cheddar and grilled onions. Smashfries on the side everytime. The smash fries can be a little too greasy sometimes and their regular shoestring fries are sad and limp without the garlic/rosemary seasoning. But the burgers and chicken are always flavorful and delicious. They have a nice presentation, too. The only thing that's keeping me from eating there during the winter is the way their doors are set up. No matter where you sit at the Roseville location, when the doors open the winter wind blows in and everyone gets hit with a gust of freezing air.

Not a bad burger. I haven't even read the other reviews but on a whim, my husband and I will pick up burgers and take them home from this place if we're in the mood for a burger better than fast food and not a sit down meal. The smash fries are pretty yummy too! I am a creature of habit so I seem to always get the same, the cheese burger with a n order of smash fries. I feel like the burgers have good flavor and the meat is just salted enough that it makes you crave another bite after another bite. I'm not saying that this is the BEST I have ever had, but it does the trick for when I am in the mood.

I don't rate many places five stars because not many places earn five stars. Well, here's one for you. Quick food is all about execution and this Smashburger executed perfectly on a cold Sunday afternoon. Evidence: The expediter stopped by to tell us our food would be delivered shortly-how many burger places have a delivery person? The smash fries were delivered too hot too eat. I ALWAYS want my fries that way because you know how many things can go wrong with fries. The burger, delivered perfectly cooked, with the toppings I requested- excellent burger flavor with a bun that compliments the ground beef instead of overwhelming it with bready sweetness (five guys). Baskets whisked away at just the right time. It's always good to see 'simple' things done well. The Roseville location is nice- you don't catch a chill everytime a customer comes in like Golden Valley. Keep up the good work Smashburger.

Best burger place around. Smash fries are also great.

After living in Roseville for some years i was surprised to find out that i had completely overlooked the newly opened Smashburger. I was hungry and intrigued...i coaxed the husband to come with and check it out. The people were nice, the facility was clean and i dare say it was reasonable priced. BUT i received my burger and fries and ended up needing (no lie) 10 NAPKINS during the course of my meal to sop up the grease. the flavor its self was good, but i couldn't get past the taste of biting into my hamburger and fries and pure grease pouring into my mouth. I am by no means a grease-phobe ( i eat at McDonalds on a regular basis) I think it would be advantageous for them to worry less about getting the food out as quickly as possible and worry more about the quality of the food they are serving. I tried it, didn't like it, and wont be back.

Okay to pretty good burgers. Sides no big deal. Step up from fast food burgers.

I too went on an adventure with another yelper to the very same Smashburger. Bet you can't figure out which one Sherlock. Anyhoo, I wasn't sure what to expect after reading mixed reviews but as evidenced by my squishy physique, I do love me some burgers so I green lighted the operation. I ordered a 1/2 burger with grilled onions and mushrooms. It was pretty damn tasty burger. Very juicy and very greasy - two things this fella loves. I also ordered a side of fries. I was a bit disappointed by them, not because of the taste because that was fine, but by the size. I'm pretty sure a kids meal at Mc Donalds has more fries in it. The decor in the joint was very industrial and it reminded me a lot of Chipotle without the rice or Coronas. So far so good, right? Well after honking down my meal I was a bit concerned that it wasn't filling like a 1/2 pound cow patty should be. Sure enough, two hours later I was starving. 1/2 lb burger my ass. I'm pretty sure Smashburger is Chinese food in a cheeseburger costume.

I am a huge fan of Smashburger, it might help that there is one in my backyard. I've gotten bored of the standard burgers, this is the one burger that has really set it self apart from the regular fare. Yes it is a little saltier than normal, yes it is juicy. A burger isn't health food, it is a treat, something you don't normally eat. The garlic rosemary fries were delicious, but i would say a little too greasy for my taste. I would recommend trying it. But I can see this place turning into a love/hate restaurant.

I had been wanting to eat at Smashburger for quite some time since I had heard such good things. I was actually a bit disappointed. I'm not quite sure why...maybe it was the high expectations? The door that kept opening and letting in cold air every minute or so? The so-so burger and fries? I had the Classic Smashburger and thought it was alright. My dining companion had the Twin Cities Burger and loved it though. You should probably take this review with a grain of salt since I've only been there once. I think I'll probably give it another go once it warms up. For fast food it's fine. But if I'm consuming crazy amounts of calories, I'd like it to be worth it.

An expensive pan fried cheese burger. Not worth the money. Not terrible but for the price not good.

Pretty good burger and nice decor. I also enjoyed their grilled chicken sandwich, which is a healthier option. It's a little overpriced for what you get, but still a nice burger place. Very clean and casual.

The food here is very good, but it's really like any other burger and fries restaurant. The food is a little expensive, but a good place to go occasionally. It's also in a great location, close to the Rosedale Mall and connected to the Harmar Mall. Try getting some blue cheese sauce on your chili cheese fries (the chili tastes a little like dog food if you have too much though). Don't forget to fill out the survey on the back of your receipt for a free side on your next visit.

I never thought I could say this about a burger BUT.... waaaay too greasy! Fries too!

  • Jennell E.

I thought the burger was great! A bit greasy, but when you have a burger and fries that is to be expected, no? The people were friendly and I'm OK paying a bit more than the other fast food joints for a good burger that you can customize. Plus they have blue cheese, the best cheese to put on a burger. Try it!

I was driving past with my three year old son and we decided to stop in for some dinner. The cashiers were extremely nice and helpful, this place is actually more fast-food than a restaurant and they have a good selection on the menu. The Twin Cities Burger is drool worthy delicious, smashfries are a must, but I wasn't too keen on the fried pickles. We will definitely be returning though if we are looking for good fast food!

Went to Smashburger in Golden Valley and had Smashchicken sandwich or whatever they call it. booyah. More fries this time. They must have known I was coming.

Are you fucking kidding me? Great. Burger. Bar none. Period. Full stop. . Though 5Gz fries be better, Smash Burger burgers blow away all other burgers in this price range. How do you sleep at night Mr. Culver?

  • Tony H.

I have this standing policy that whatever jumps out from the menu to my sweet little eyes, my witty little brain orders. Of course I was criticized by my friend for ordering a chicken sammich. The layout is not unlike American Burger in Woodbury: semi-fast food, semi-sit down. We, the people, are beginning to love these places. Half the fancy, nix on the tip. The chicken was good. it was not a frozen patty, but fresh and juicy. The bun was excellent. The fries were standard. I wanted to try Smash Burger today: I did. I just don't see myself becoming a regular.

Great burgers here. We used to get takeout from BW-3 around the corner at Har Mar, but no more. Smashburger puts them to shame. The food isn't just run-of-the-mill burgers and fries. They put some creativity into the menu and it paid off. Agreed on the decor -- cold and industrial. The place might be called Warehouseburger. Take the food home instead, and then you can have your choice of beer.

I don't care if it is a chain, the food is rock-solid and fresh. Surprisingly, one of the best items is the vegetarian black bean burger-it's actually homemade. I love the choice of buns and the fact that one can get deep-fried onions on the burger. I will go back.

I was influenced by a Facebook friend to try Smashburger. The first visit I was greated by a very motivated and helpful employee. Showed me the menu on the wall by the register. Told me about the TC Smashburger that made the #1 burger in MN with one magazine. So being the when in Rome kinda guy I did order it. This is another burger on my burger tour I did not add K/M to. Such a cheesy and great tasting burger. I also had the Smashfries with olive oil and rosemary. At least the fries are low salt/sodium. Second visit had the spicy baja burger and fried onion basket. . As good as the buger tasted I could not eat it without the toppings sliding off. The onions were great but forget a none messy dipping in the sauce. My final review would be I love the taste of the burger, my second visit showed how greasy it really is. The fries are so-so. The deep fried onions were very delicious. Took a nap after my second visit and woke up tasing the salt overload. I would recommend and have,

The burger there was amazingly good and the service was fast and friendly. The reason for the four stars is because of the pricing I personally would say this place is more of a $$.

  • Kari W.

Greasy, flavorless burgers. You can have 'em! I won't go back - even my family (3 teen-aged boys and hubby) don't really care for it. Too expensive for the quality of food.

  • Beth F.

My husband and I spent a goodly portion of today exchanging messages about how we wanted it sloppy... ...and so we came here. He had the Sin City smashburger and it was *very* sloppy - bacon, cheese, fried onions, smash sauce and a fried egg. I made the mistake of building my own creation and it wasn't sloppy enough. *sad face* If we come again I'll keep that in mind as well as preparing myself to guzzle water like it's a drought because holy salt lick, Batman! Those smashburgers are s-a-l-t-y!

Good Burgers - I like the spicy one with jalapenos Sides ... meh. Overall cheery place. Staff is friendly. A little pricey for what you get.

I have been to this Smashburger 3 times. The parking lot is normally pretty busy. It's Minnesota so no one klnows how to park if there aren't any lines. You walk up to the counter and you place your order. You get a number and go sit down and wait for your order. I normally get the California Burger or the Mushroom Burger. Both are flavorful. The shakes and the fries are truly a treat. I like how the fries are smaller and flavored very well with seasoning.. there are bits of parsley in it as well. Cute touch... of class? I enjoy the Honest Green Tea. It's worth the money you'd pay for a good burger.... In this market you can get a burger from McDonalds and Burger King for the same price as Smashburger. So go to Smashburger.

I know it's a chain, and I feel like I should feel some guilt about loving Smashburger as much as I do, but I can't help it. I adore Smashburger. I discovered Smashburger when I was pregnant with my twins -- I was craving a burger, and my husband brought one home (with a massive, delicious chocolate shake). The burgers are big, juicy and perfect. I would have thought that "smashing" them would make the burgers less juicy, but nope--plenty juicy. I love the chicken sandwiches, too--especially the avocado club. And the fries are just the best, particularly their special fries, tossed with rosemary and olive oil. I love thin, crispy fries. And fried pickles. The fried pickles are delicious too. And the milkshakes. You have to get a milkshake. You can't NOT get a milkshake. (I'm making myself hungry now.) Service at this location has always been friendly, prompt and attentive. Ideal hangover food, or one-in-awhile splurge food.

I had a $2 coupon and I love a bargain so here I came. I've never been to a Smashburger before and wasn't hungry for a big greasy burger (weird, right?) so I went with the grilled chicken spinach salad with goat cheese and cucumber. As I was ordering I started to second guess myself and asked the lady behind the counter about if I should get the cucumber goat cheese burger instead and she told me I'd be happy with the salad, so with the salad I went. I'm always happy when people aren't afraid to help me make menu choices. Good customer service. I got it to go and ate it in the car, It was actually a pretty good salad for a fast food joint. I love goat cheese and the chicken was good. I look forward to having a burger here sometime.

I'd never been to a Smashburger, so when my mom said she was craving a burger after our mother/daughter shopping date, I was in. I was trying to be healthy, so I ordered a Smashchicken sandwich with spinach, cucumber, and goat cheese, and a side salad. The cashier seemed confused with my order, so I repeated it twice and she brought another coworker over to verify. My mom ordered the original Smashburger and Smashfries. We asked for our order to go, and waited about 10 minutes for it. I waited to open my sandwich until I got to the car (my mistake) and realized they had given me a chicken salad with spinach, cucumber, and goat cheese. My side salad was correct. Sooo basically I got a salad and a side salad at a burger joint. I didn't have time to go back in to correct my order, so I got my fill (and more) of greens that night. Luckily, my mom let me try a few of her french fries and a bite of her burger, so I got a few carbs. On the plus side, the spinach chicken salad was good for a fast food salad. I just don't understand why between repeating my order multiple times and to 2 individuals, I still got the wrong meal.

My first time at a Smashburger and I thought service was good. The burger was decent and priced fairly. I did not even spend five dollars and yet I left completely satisfied for my beef fix. I don't think the burger was anything that I will crave just upon hearing the name Smashburger but different strokes for different folks.

I have been going to this Smashburger since it opened. At first, probably because of the new store and the unique menu, the place was always packed, the staff was sharp, courteous, and the food was delicious. However, the customer service, cleanliness of the restaurant, and quality of the food has progressively worsened over the past several months to the point where I will no longer go there. Employees are short, discourteous, do not listen and make you repeat your order several times, and seem terribly inconvenienced by my presence. Three trips ago, the food was sloppily tossed into the serving basket, the buns for the sandwiches were soggy, and the veggies were limp and wilted. The fries were so salty they were inedible. I asked for another basket, but the second serving was just as salty and covered in what appeared to be some sort of cooking oil. My last two trips there resulted in me walking out after the staff simply ignored me standing at the register, ready to order. Yesterday, they were counting both the cash registers' drawers, and all four employees were having an intense conversation about transgender rights (not that that's bad...). After my standing there listening for 2 minutes, with no acknowledgment that I was waiting, I turned and left. As I left, on male employee yelled "We'll be ready in a couple of minutes." Will never go here again.

Food is ok. I feel like there are better burger joints. The last two times I went to get a shake and they were never full. They were always half way filled in the cup and the other half was whip cream. You get ripped off!!!! I complained about it and the worker just shrugged. Not coming here for shakes again.

Want to hear about the first and last time I ever eat at a Smashburger?? Today I ordered takeout. When I got home I took two bites and noticed my burger was RAW towards the middle. Not pink, RAW. Called in and explained how terrible first experience was and manager comped my next meal. I won't even go back for a free meal. Raw beef is inexcusable for a burger chain to serve. Oh yeah the deep fried pickles were soggy and terrible too. Terrible

  • Nicole P.

Went yesterday to try this place out for the first time. I will definitely be coming back. The burger was great and totally worth the price. The service was nice at the register and the manager came around checking with everyone to make sure everything was to their liking. I was a very happy customer.

  • Jill P.

I love them. I LOVE them. The food, absolutely, but I mean the staff and especially the managers. They're friendly and approachable and seem to actually care that everyone's experience is a good one. And I don't mean that in some weird, fake, forced way like they're just saying what they're supposed to...they are actually and literally caring. What a concept!

The first time I visited Samshburger was for a Yelp event. I really liked the taste of their spicy veggie black bean burger at the time. Although it took me a few months to go back and try it again at this nearby location, the taste of the burger was still solid. It was middle of the week and I had no interest/patience in cooking at home, so I decided to drive to Smashburger in HarMar mall for a burger and fries meal. The decor here is very different from the one I visited in Plymouth for the Yelp event. There are large red sofa booths and plenty of table and chairs . I ordered the veggie black bean burger and Smashfries. A very satisfying meal and it doesn't make you feel guilty of eating a large burger and fries as it is very easy on the stomach and your wallet. For less than $9, you get a freshly "smashed" burger patty with all its goodness. The staff is very friendly too.

  • Emma M.

I'm not a fan of burgers, I will admit. I had a bad run-in with one in my youth and I haven't been able to enjoy them as much as other people since then. These burgers are pretty damn good. I get the classic every time with the raw onions replaced with grilled and add mushrooms. So good. It's no Matt's Lucy but it's damn good and really accessible. It even outpaces some burger joints that I've been to here *cough*burgerjones*cough* Generally juicy and flavorful burgers and crispy fries. Again, a good middling burger. Very much like the other slow food restaurants around (Noodles and Co, Chipotle, et al) in terms of decor and pricing.

If you're looking for delicious fat dripping out of your burger this is the place. Have plenty of napkins ready to wipe your face off cause condiments will get everywhere. When building your burger the meat/cheese is extra but the vegetable (lettuce, onion ect...) are free. They also have a kids burger list and vegetarian list as well.

  • Arazue F.

I don't really like meat, especially red meat, especially in burger form. However I actually enjoyed the greasy deliciousness that was my Twin City Smash Burger. It was your typical burger with cheddar and swiss cheeses, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, ketchup and mayo, but the burger itself was super tasty. I feel like the burger was tasty mainly due to all the grease and fat that was soaked up in it, and partly due to any minuscule seasoning, but it hit the spot if you were looking for a greasy cure for your hunger. We also got the sweet potato fries which were quite good, but I can't say it's the best I've had. Smashburger also had vegetarian options too, but I don't know why one would go to Smashburger if you were a vegetarian. After eating out burgers me and my momma bear both had really bad stomachaches and I think the excess grease of the burgers were to blame. Fellow eater, you have been warned.

Fried pickles! I could be a fan of that alone. First visit to Smashburger. A friend told me that they had pretty good burgers, so decided to give it a whirl. For fast food and convenience, I would much rather eat here than any of the drive through burger joints and for the price it just about evens out. Ordered the regular Bacon Cheddar burger sans the BBQ which was really good. A tad greasy, but still good. Bacon was prepared nicely and it was thick and not some charred to heck piece of grease. J ordered the chicken sandwich. He said it was alright. The fried pickles hit the spot. Love those things. Even better with the ranch sauce. The smash fries- not our cup of tea which the manager noticed and offered to get us regular ones which I thought was pretty nice. Michaeal at the counter was very nice and very helpful in explaining the menu to first timers. I would go back.

  • Linda H.

Yum!!! We had driven past this place many times but because it always appeared empty, we never tried it. When they had a deal on Groupon, I figured it was time to give it a try. What can I say? I was snatching napkins because of its ooey, gooey, cheesiness and my daughter did the happy dance while eating the deep fried pickles and Smash Fries with rosemary! If you want a casual place, a step above fast food place with great burgers and fries, give this place a try.

    (4)
  • Taals B.

Love the juicy burgers, butter dripping out of them. make sure you have enough napkins to wipe your hands after. Wasn't crazy about the fries, but I always get a malt with the burgers. They are so creamy and thick, worth for a cheat day :-)

  • Oliver L.

Def a fan when my friend told me about, the seasonal of the fries were on point. I had the sin city burger, such a fan, fresh egg to top of it. def be back. this was like someonthing that reminded me of home. Love it, great service.

  • Steve P.

Tried them three times now. Once for a Bacon Cheeseburger and once for a Spicy Baja, once for a classic. Meh. The generic, food-service-grade American cheese was really not very good. The Baja had so much hot pepper Overall, the burgers had far too much grease. The only reason for "smashing" the patty down neither adds to the flavor, nor the "juiciness". It just seems to be a gimmick to get it to run over the edge of the bun. Their SmashFries, as well as their regular fries, are julienne cut, small, narrow, shoestrings. They were, in all, limp and greasy. While I could see flecks of green, which I assume was rosemary, on the fries, there was no taste of the herb, nor of garlic, and the olive oil was tasteless as well. The Haystack Onions had a lot of oil in them. When I have the option, I'll go with Culvers.

    (2)
  • Guya I.

I wanted this to be better. The Veg option--Black Bean burger was lifeless and fell out of the bun when I tried to eat it. The Veg Frites were lame and wet and flacid. The rosemary french fries were mediocre--- Really- I appreciate the effort to have a Veg burger but use an Egg or anything to hold it all together I am positive someone could figure it out-- and add some seasoning.

I know its a chain. I'll keep it short and sweet. Greasy goodness in my belly. Makes Five Guys look like Five schmucks. Made me happy but unproductive at work for the rest of the day. Would go back every day if I didn't think I would lose my job due to all the meat comas. And if I didn't mind not being able to fit into my desk chair. The end.

Woke up, ran errands, starved. It was already 12 so I said "Why not?" I'll just Eat breakfast for dinner. Went in at this little poshy place after reading a couple reviews on Yelp. Picked up the menu by the door and reviewed it online. As much as the other yelpers suggested Twin Cities Burger - I picked the Swiss Mushroom Smash Burger instead. The staff was friendly, I'm sure they'll explain the whole menu if I want to know more but I was set on my choice. The Swiss Mushroom comes in an egg bun but I asked her if I can get the multi-grain instead and it was not a problem. After that easy bun fix - I'm already in. Ordered the sweet potato fries too! Excited!!!! THE BURGER Gah first bite and it was yummy over greasy goodness! Amazing! Very tasty. Also you can see how the patty was literally smashed on the pan because of the lack of a regular burger patty shape. Hmm I thought, very smart business name. FYI I ordered the "smash" size not the "BIG Smash". She said it's about half a pound difference on the angus beef. But anyhow I think the "smash" was a pretty good size considering the amount of smashgrease that comes with it. Oh it is yummy. FRIES As expected of sweet potato fries but not soggy. It's crunchy sprinkled with Rosemary. I always like to dip it in fries and will definitely come back for another cup. Yes cup. It comes in little cup looking Fries holder. OVERALL I LOVE IT!.. I'm excited to try their other burgers. It's a chain. So don't expect stellar burger but it's yummy for itself. I don't get the other reviews that it isn't. You basically get what you pay for and SmashBurger is definitely a memorable outta town burger goodness.

I'm a little disappointed I didn't try this place sooner now that I've moved away from Roseville. The burgers are really great! Its in my top 3 for best burgers in MN. I usually get the smaller burger, american cheese, tomatoes, onion, lettuce, ketchup, mustard, smash sauce, and an over easy egg. Sooooo good! I've also tried the veggie and oil/ herb fries. They were just ok. I really suggest hitting this place up sometime.

  • Barbara J.

Ugh. Overpriced, greasy and disgusting. I didn't finish my burger and the onion rings were a cold, greasy glob of schreds piled high in a congealed mess. Never again. A cute restaurant does NOT make up for a disgusting inedible mess.

this place should not be called a burger joint maybe you can call it a fancy burger king yet still suck as much as fast food burgers.

  • Rhonda G.

This was my first experience here. I caught the sizzle on a totally filled egg bun. I got the classic and I loved it. I liked the thinly sliced red onions. I think I would have like shredded lettuce. Didn't care for the pickles, because I prefer them thinner too. I like the cute basket. But then I am easily amused. It's about time you can get a chain burger for breakfast. They did need a good burger place on this side of the street.

I love smash burger. Flavorful. My fav is the Baja Chicken. I love that they have a large selection of toppings to put on your burger. Very good. Love it!

You can get a perfectly decent hamburger and fries at Smashburger. You can also get a perfectly decent hamburger, drink and fries at a ton of other places for less than $10 (cough cough, CULVERS!). I really like the American burger and regular fries here. They are very tasty but this place is just too expensive and they really want you to tip the staff too so that's just more expense. Who tips for fast food - common.

  • Michael P.

If you're looking for a unique burger, Smashburger can help you with that. Among their own curious burger concoctions, you have the choice of building your own unique burger any way to see fit. Something I would recommend trying is their different styles of fries. They aren't for everyone, but you may be surprise be pleasantly surprised as a new way of enjoying this traditional partner to the burger.

I have been here twice now. Both times I got a Twin Cities Burger and both times it was REALLY good. The first time I stopped in the place was dirty - at 11:00 in the morning. I must have picked a spot where someone had just eaten - there was stuff all over the booth and I didn't notice until I was already embedded. One of these days I will try their dogs. I love me a good dog.

Just turn around now. This place is not worth the calories. My boyfriend and I went out of our way to go here one day, and we were really disappointed. The burgers, which are supposed to be smashed to "lock in the juices" were juicy - everywhere. On my hands, on my table, on my burger bun which quickly became soggy. The cheese on the burger was really weird and had a bizarre texture. The seasoning on the haystack onions was WAY too much, this coming from a person who tends to over season their food. Lastly, the prices were totally not worth it. If you want a good burger in St. Paul, go to Blue Door Pub, The Nook or Shamrock's.

Here's the deal. I love burgers. I love them meaty, not creepy, and even a little greasy. Smashburger satiates those desires, but I have had better. I think they try a little too hard or something. It's weird, I think their burgers are too salty. That is really not a good sign. Let me tell you why... I love salt. It's nearly to a disgusting level how much I love salt. I put salt on my damn salt, for crap's sake. At the end of the day, the burgers are decent. Salty, but decent. I have been there three or four times so clearly they aren't horrible. I've had better... at Culver's (best fast food burger EVER). The place is clean, the workers are nice and prompt. Ohhh, before I forget: the smash fries are good but freakishly oily. They should toss them in olive oil instead of drizzling it on top of them...

I think it's a great place and the food was exactly what I was hoping for. The only issue was the chocolate shake tasted more like a malt but no biggie. The guys working there were friendly and the burgers/fries were tasty and sloppy as expected. I am planning on returning soon!
