Loved this place! Healthy gluten free and vegan food near the Mayo--across from St. Mary's Hospital. Breakfast all day, soups, salads, juices to order, wraps and sandwiches. Wait staff works in a team and are incredibly welcoming and happy;) worth a walk or drive. I had the Kale, fig, goat cheese, apple salad which was awesome--baby kale at its peak.

Great fresh pressed juices and wholesome foods. Love their cranberry multigrain bread!

This is a great little restaurant and a unique find in Rochester. They have a large selection of juices/smoothies and a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. I just hope they last in the Rochester market.

I was quite impressed with Tonic - it's a great little restaurant that certainly fits a missing niche in Rochester. We had the breakfast burrito and the kale salad. The salad was excellent for Rochester (kale, strawberries, cheese, balsamic); the burrito was slightly soggy but still quite good. I was really happy to see that the food was all local. Service is great; juices are fantastic. A great spot for lunch!

Great location across from St. Mary's Hospital! Supporting local farmers and producers. Summer will be their time to shine! We need more variety like this in Rochester.

Great food! Healthy! Delicious! Just had the spiced carrot soup, which is wonderful. Just what this area needed!

I am so happy to have found this place on a recent visit to Rochester. The Easy Being Green juice is delicious! I also had a chance to try the food which was tasty and nourishing. I visit Mayo every year and Tonic will be on my agenda. If I lived close I'd stop in weekly.

I was so happy to find Tonic. Tonic is one of the very very few places in Rochester, MN that provides healthy farm to table meals that also caters to those with food allergies. I was amazed at how hard it was to find a place here with fresh pressed juices, organic food fare and the like; but, Tonic is it! The staff are very friendly and the food is amazing. The Breakfast Hash, their "I'm Hungry " plate and the gluten free toast with real jam are so good. I've also had their veggie wrap and their breakfast wrap, all made with a gluten free wrap and they were both delicious. The cranberry stuffed French toast is a must try and their jasmine tea was the perfect complement to their dishes. And the tea was legit-not just tea bags you throw in a cup-real tea petals that you steep with their timer. It's such a cute hidden gem close to The Mayo Clinic. I've visited here many times since then. High quality food is hard to find and takes time. So if you are looking for more meal for you buck or drive thru fast food waiting times, Tonic may not be for you. But, you've only got one body, so why not fuel it with the best? And the best is at Tonic!

Not as good as the reviews... but pleasant enough I would probably come back again... The dining options are really limited here in Rochester... Service was pretty bad. Had to wait for a while for the waitress to come back to take our orders. Ukranian Borscht - it was ok. Nothing special. BBQ chicken Sammy - flavorful. I would recommend it. Pyrohi - standard. Good. But nothing special. Will try their juice and smoothies next time. I was too full to try.

Kale was too salty but other than that everything was nice... Black bean burger was nice but a bit dry. Tabula salad was great and fresh!

I thought the food was pretty darn good. However I was not impressed by the waitress one bit. She talked down to me as if I were a 2 year old. She snatched the menu right out of my hands when our meal arrived. She said" I do not want the menu to get dirty"#! Who am I cookie monster????? I thought the food was a little over priced and the service sucked. They will not be seeing this pretty face in the near future. End of story!!!!!

I've eaten here three times in the last 48 hours so obviously I like this place. For two breakfasts I had eggs and greens both times with wheat toast and homemade jam which is close to perfect for a tasty, healthy breakfast. The jams were rhubarb one day and apricot/mango another. For lunch today I had a ratatouille which was excellent. It's nice to find a place, especially when traveling, where you can eat a lot of vegetables. Since they ran out of roasted beets I'll have to come back to try those next.

Came here for a quick lunch, as it's just across the street from St Mary's hospital. It serves all organic food with a ton of vegetarian options. Everything looked delicious. I had the spicy fajita wrap which wasn't as spicy as I would have liked it, but it was nevertheless tasty. The wraps come with the option of kale chips, fruit or soup. The breakfast options were popular at our table but I didn't try it. One tip: check into yelp so you get a free drink, my strawberry lemonade was so refreshing. I'll be back!

I always love having the option of a healthy place to eat when traveling. I had the quiche of the day (southwest black bean) and oatmeal. The quiche was a little small for me, definitely for a light breakfast. It wouldn't have filled me up without the oatmeal. The oatmeal was really good. The staff were very friendly. It was a little expensive - $50 for 3 of us but definitely good. Definitely want to go back to try a juice or smoothie.

So we walked in and the place was literally empty. We sat around for 10 minutes waiting and no one showed up. When we looked back in the kitchen it was empty too. The whole experience was just very odd... Edit: So I amended my review from 1 to 3 stars so it isn't so harsh since they were apparently closed. All I'm saying is that an open door, music playing, menus laid out, and a guy that watched us walk right in without saying anything is generally a pretty decent indicator that a place is open.

I like the idea of Tonic, and the execution almost reached that ideal. The food is tasty, but portions are so very small for the price. We ordered a "heaping" pile of kale, only to realize that the "heaping" was more like "a few pieces." The food is quite tasty, there is a limited amount of choice but that choice is of a variety of different styles of foods. Also, their juice mixes are quite creative and tasty. The atmosphere is also creative. Understated, but comfortable. It seems to be 'common wisdom' that healthier food should cost more. Tonic just takes the inflated price of health food, adds 20% to the cost, then cuts the portion size by 30%. It's good food, fast and friendly service - but you pay for it and leave hungry.

Yumo! Delish (warm) market veggie wrap with hummus, olive temponade, mushrooms, squash and spinach. Absolutely wonderful. Had their soup with it it was a tomato broth based soup with beets in it. Had the green juice too. All was absolutely perfect. Fast, good service. Can't wait to go back! Couple of points: they don't offer nutritional info, and is a tad expensive for lunch- but I'm willing to pay for it- Twas yummy!

This little cafe serves happy on a plate. While my mom was in Rochester for treatment, I found respite in the organic veggies, farm-raised Bison, locally raised chicken, and home made bread - all sourced locally from responsible farmers. I ended up making this my hang-out place so I could take advantage of the free wi-fi and sip on my favorite beet-tomato-carrot juice while waiting for news from the doctors. And even better - I didn't have to break the bank to eat healthy! Prices are about 2/3 of what you would pay in other parts of the country. While I'm happy that my mom is now discharged and ready for our journey home, I'm genuinely going to miss this place!!!

My husband and I stopped by here on our way out of town while visiting family. We'd eaten out a ton and I needed some fresh green juice to make me feel healthy & human again. I got the "Easy Being Green" juice, it was SO good. He got the "Smooth Operator," and liked mine better. He said the jicama base left it a little plain. My green juice had SO much flavor, and a little kick from the ginger and citrus. I almost turned around and got another for the road after my first sip. I'll definitely plan a stop by here next time we're nearby!

So you or a loved one were just treated at St. Mary's (Mayo Clinic) and now you're looking to turn over a new, healthy leaf? Start with Tonic! Hands down the freshest, tastiest place in walking distance, the food is excellent. Everything I and my party had was delicious...Rachel (with turkey as good as your Thanksgiving don't!) and black bean soup highly recommended!!

Very clean food, great coffee, filtered water, very accommodating to vegetarians. Very happy to find this place on my visit. Food came fast, hot and very flavorful.

Delicious banana late (coffee, banana, chocolate and almond milk...what more could a girl ask for?!? And the black bean soup and grilled cheese were to die for!

We had a few minutes between appointments and had heard this place was good. Stopped in to just grab a quick bowl of soup to go. The cup of soup cost $4.00, plus a 25 cent charge for the to-go container. When we got in the car and opened it, there was perhaps 2 ounces in the small paper cup. Each of us got roughly two sips. And the cash register seemed to be an additional challenge for the staff, requiring approximately five employees to open it. The only help they offered my wife when she said she was waiting on her change was a cryptic attempt at philosophy when they said "change is bad, change is good..." and stared off into space. I gave them one star because that almost made me laugh. So if you enjoy hapless service and tiny, expensive portions of extremely salty cream of asparagus soup, this is the place for you. Otherwise, there are much better options within a block.

  • Sarah G.

I totally agree with Cris H. who said this place serves happy on a plate. I got the macaroni and cheese (they were happy to make it meatless; I bet they get that a lot) and the strawberry fields smoothie. At peak season for the local strawberries, it was an explosion in my mouth! The flavors are bright and yummy, the atmosphere is nice, and it's fast. Very good, I'll be back!

Delish - healthy, made with love. Try the Easy Bein' Green smoothie and the roasted veggies - and don't miss the GF Red Velvet cake -- Nicci is fantastic!

Food is really good, service can be spotty. My wife and I walked in on a recent Friday night, and were one of only two couples in the place. We waited a long time for our food, and the server pretty much ignored us once she put the food on the table. We had to go up to the register in the back and ask for our check. She told me basically to have a seat and she would bring the check. I was a little grouchy about that. And one minor beef: either they believe all the stupid nutri-babble they ever hear or else they just want to steal your money by lying about it, one or the other. For example, despite what's written all over the place, an ounce of fucking wheat grass juice doesn't replace two fucking pounds of vegetables. No fucking way, OK? And please don't get me started on fucking Kangen water: alkalinewaterionizers.or… Shut up with the God-Damned nutri-babble, and just keep making great local food, OK?

Got a banana latte which was not bad. Have had better banana latte than that, was expecting more. Tried the breakfast sandwich with cottage cheese and it was a huge disappointment. Used the yelp offer to get a free beverage, Ethiopian coffee and it tasted like the crappy Seattle best coffee! Place is expensive considering the portions are very small. The biggest turn off was the amount of time they took to bring the order. 20 mins to make a smoothie and about an half an hour for a sandwich! That too when the place was empty. May try some smoothies in the future but food, no!

Wonderful food. One of the best places in Rochester. The smoothies, french toast, and tabouleh are delicious.

Had lunch with my wife here Atmosphere: very quaint and hipster, matching heir theme well. Chairs were somewhat uncomfortable. Staff: very friendly and checked on us multiple times. Gave good recommendations. However they did forget our bread pudding until we asked when they thought to bring the bill. Food: Potato pancakes: very good with excellent flavor, texture, and aroma. Relatively small portion but it was technically an appetizer. Chicken bowl: very filling with very fresh tasting chicken. Rice was also tasty but needed additional flavoring (sriracha and pepper) to suit my tastes. Bread pudding, chocolate banana peanut butter: great topping sauce and the dessert itself was very delicious. Could have been heated up more. Also, wasn't typical bread pudding was surprisingly dry. Banana latte: was good, not overly sweet, good cinnamon undertones. They made extra so we got a side cup to share! Price: on the pricier end of Rochester diner style spots, especially the juices and speciality drinks. Overall: expensive but worth it to us. Will be back and try new things!

Fresh spicy carrot juice, eggs, greens and wild rice and cranberry French toast, absolutely delicious. Service was an A+.

Great place!! Healthy, lots of options, kid friendly, easy parking. A little spendy but to be expected for quality food. I had the turkey tacos and it was a large portion with black bean soup. It was delish and I am stuffed! My daughter had veggie chips and hummus and a strawberry smoothie. My son had grilled cheese with carrots and grapes. Highly recommend and will be back!

This is a gem! Little restaurant across the street from Saint Mary's Hospital, came to fill a void that was existent in Rochester: small restaurant, not a chain, that supports local farmers and makes everything from scratch! They have usually two daily specials that are delicious! You can add a protein to any of their vegetarian salads if you are not a vegetarian. So they don't discriminate! I consider the price fair for the quality of what they serve. Their juices are also delicious. And you do have the option to create your own!

The owner, Nicci, was wonderful. What a great find. We are starting a juicing regimen and this was a great place to kick it off. Easy being green and smooth operator were delicious. What a great concept for a restaurant.

Nice, clean and fresh place... Very good and healthy food. I had the bison burger and kale chips. Both were terrific. I never thought I'd like kale chips, but after trying them, I'm a fan. Great lemonade too. Sweet staff. Try it and you won't be disappointed. I will say that during a small rush tonight, they were a tad overwhelmed so folks need to understand that the restaurant has a sole proprietorship feel so you may have to wait a bit at night during the week. But totally worth the 10 min or so before they can turn their attention to you.

I've only been here once and hope to return for a meal. I stopped in one winter day for some healthy juice. Juice tasted delicious but the price was steep- considering I could buy all the produce required for $9. I was not impressed with the service. Nobody welcomed me so I decided to head straight to the bar to get juice on the go. When I stopped at the bar to order, the waiter barely looked at me nonetheless talked to me. Again, I'd love to return for food and another chance to change my mind on the service.

Came here a few times while at Mayo for the week as this is the first really vegan friendly restaurant we found. I wanted desperately to love this place, but the service and food are inconsistent, and I found it to be quite expensive. (Prices are more expensive than similar places in Atlanta). The first time we went I had the black bean burger patty atop a salad. It was great - I would definitely recommend the black bean burger, although not enough food. (I should have ordered the black bean burger as a burger, as opposed to atop a salad). I ended up ordering a smoothie as I was still hungry, which took around 25 minutes to arrive. The smoothie wasn't awful, but I wouldn't order it again - definitely not worth the money. There was only one server and seemingly one cook, and both seemed overwhelmed. Service was painfully slow, and the server seemed to lack a sense of urgency. Several customers got out of their seats to ask for service, and a few more left after having been seated for extended periods of time with no service. The meal ended up costing a little under $30 per person (not including tip), for a salad and a smoothie! Around $15 would have seemed more appropriate for what we got. The second time I went was for breakfast between appointments. The service was better (not quick, but decent enough) as we were the only people in the restaurant, but the food was poor this time. I ordered a breakfast wrap, and something in it was definitely past its prime. I'm not sure if it was the avocado or another ingredient, but it tasted rotten. As we were in between appointments, I didn't have time to order something else. Overall, this place is worth a try. But beware the service and prices! Don't go here if you're looking for something quick and affordable.

Super cool find. I was driving through Rochester on a road trip and just happened to drive by Tonic. They advertised local fare so I decided to get lunch to go. The place is clean and bright, and I love the chalkboard with the specials. I got a fajita wrap and kale chips. I didn't read the description carefully, and was surprised to find it meatless, but the black beans and avocado made it hearty and it filled me up nicely. Kale chips were good too and everything was seasoned really well. I was also impressed by how quickly my order came out. Prices are a little high but it's par for the course. And I'm always willing to spend a little more for solid local fare. Next time, I'm trying a juice.

I'm such a big fan of this place. The food is delicious AND healthy (something Rochester has needed for a long time), the service is great (everyone there is very helpful and kind), and the general focus on helping local farmers and serving locally grown natural foods is really great. I've only been their for breakfast but the juice and breakfast sandwich I tried were really great. The serving size was just right for me, and even though it's pricier than average, I felt that the food, the atmosphere, and the service were well worth every penny. Highly recommend this place.

This is a don't-miss place for those visiting Rochester. The owners are passionate about creating great dishes from whole foods. Many gluten-free options for those who need it. Cold-pressed juices and delightful desserts. Go for breakfast, juice, lunch/dinner or a sweet treat. Just go!!!

  • David W.

This place is a little too hipster for me. Don't get me wrong, I am supportive of sustainable practices and like supporting responsible restaurant companies (e.g. Chipotle). I'm not perfectly sold on the organic lifestyle (after reading Michael Pollan's books, I have come to appreciate local much more than organic), but will eat organic foods if it's served at a restaurant. What turned me off at Tonic was their smug attitude about it all. I ordered a Diet Coke only to find out that they chose not to serve soda. I was offered a smoothie drink as an alternative, but instead I settled with water. Who doesn't at least have a few cans of Diet Coke lying around? I had a burger that was decent--nothing special. The diningwear was curious--it all looked like it came from a thrift store and nothing matched. The food was also overpriced. Not for me, but maybe it jives better with others.

Absolutely fantastic place - Come here often and get your health on! Great menu variety, local foods and very health conscious vibe. I had a salad, a smoothie, and a fresh juice to go. All three were wonderful.

While visiting Mayo, we were fortunate enough to find Tonic. My wife is a veggie, I am not. Plenty to choose from for both of us. Food was outstanding, and Ashley (server) was the best! Thanks for your help!

Had a Vegan Wrap (tofu, beans, avocado, etc...) for breakfast. Avocado was past its "use by" date and the flavor overwhelmed all others; just barely palatable. Makes we wonder what other ingredients are used when they should really be in the garbage bin.

Super cute, super healthy! Coffee is great. Also had the spicy fajita wrap- spicy, tasty and vegan. Would absolutely be back.

I got the black dragon tea the first night (awesome for restricted diets) and then the spicy fajita wrap the next day for lunch. Some of the best food ive had in rochester considering most things are starchy and fried here. Super friendly wait staff and a cool modern atmosphere. The house made lemon lime lemonade is awesome but i think its seasonal or switches around flavors daily.

Had breakfast at Tonic, the food was amazing, the staff were prompt and very friendly with the service. They also have an excellent juice bar, they make it from scratch right in front of you. Thanks Nathane for the excellent service, I look forward to coming back soon.

It is so easy to juice cleanse here!!Beyond expectations with the quality of juice and great service. Owner and staff knowledgeable about juicing. Combinations of ingredients for juice are perfect--something I have never succeeded with at home. I am on day 6 of juicing and I know I will continue. Tonic makes it easy! Planning to do my monthly 3 day cleanses here!! B.

Tonic was a nutritional savior to us while my husband had Mayo appointments spread over 9 days. The juice bar allowed us to retain our usual routine during a stressful time, the food was delicious and prevented us from having to eat at less nutritious options. The homemade pierogies were definitely worth the splurge, but we mostly stuck with the vegetable based items, which were very fresh even in September. The owner was there all the time, so service was also good. Very happy to have found Tonic so that we could maintain at least some normalcy to life as vegetarians while seeking medical treatment. UPDATE June 2015: The owner makes good use of the abundant locally grown produce -- when we were there last week, it was homegrown strawberries that inspired specials. Almost a year later, and this is still the best place we found to eat while in Rochester.

  • Cielo G.

Great for health, not to fill you up though. Small portions for the high price. $7 gets you a 9 oz bowl of soup. $9 sautéed greens equals a little more than a cup. Must admit, quality is not lacking. Friendly Ukrainian ladies (owners) and staff.

Adorable little healthy food "diner" right across from St. Mary's hospital campus. I enjoyed a very healthy crust less mushroom cheese quiche which included a fruit salad. Fresh made decaf was the best of my trip. As I was eating, the employee was writing up the specials on the chalkboard and I wanted to come back for dinner and try them all. Very innovative and adorable little spot. We sat at the bar in nice clear lucite bar stools with lots of fresh greens colors and fresh greens everywhere. I think it does a great juice business too. The entire meal I was staring at a homemade berry pie, which also looked fabulous, but didn't have my appetite yet from my hospital stay. Wish you were in my hometown, cause I'd be here a lot. Very hip, local, student type spot, but a little high for student prices. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed

This food was so good that I'm signing up for Yelp just to rave about it! I ordered the goat cheese fondue mac & cheese and borscht. It was hands down the best mac & cheese I've ever had (and the borscht was great too)! I didn't stop smiling the whole time I was eating. Unfortunately I live out of the state, or I'd be there every day!

Absolutely loved this place! The waitresses are very friendly and the food was delicious. Plus, the food is local and organic. I'd recommend the veggie wrap :)

  • Elizabeth I.

Finally, a healthy food option near St.Mary's Hospital! The "juice/smoothie bar" label is misleading -- they also have desserts, soups, salads, sandwiches, and other entree items. So far we've tried the iced tea, the lemon-limeade, and the Spicy Fajita Wrap. All were delicious. Going back for Black Bean burgers ASAP (they were out on our first visit). Lots of vegetarian choices, but they also have a few dishes with meat. Service is friendly, laid back. Atmosphere is charming, fresh, funky, and GREEN. A little pricey but worth it for good quality, local, organic food that is good for you.
