I would give this place 4 stars, but the service was so-so. The good news is that they have a wealth of craft beers available. Not all of them are on tap, but you won't be disappointed in the selection. Do not plan on eating dinner here. While they have a menu, it's limited to average appetizers and a few pizzas. I wouldn't skip this place entirely as it makes a great stop on your way to dinner, especially the rooftop seating.

Tap House is one of my FAVORITE spots in town. Classy low-key spot with awesome knowledgeable bartenders. Great beer selection, great tasting martinis and they have COFFEE!! The chai tea with or without alcohol is to die for! Huge mugs topped with a ton of whip cream. Hip music right off Broadway.

Awesome place with vast selection on tap and knowledgable bartenders to help narrow things down. Check out the roof top deck if it's nice out too!

Great place for happy hour in the downtown area. I especially love the rooftop patio! They have a fun drink menu, with a lot of different beer selections. Not the cheapest around, but definitely in line with other downtown establishments. I had the Apple Cider Margarita (not sure if this is a seasonal drink?), and it was so good I ended up having two more! Has more of a cider taste, than a margarita taste. Didn't try any food, but the food we saw at other tables looked really good, might have to try some appetizers next time. Good service + great drinks = we will be back!

My favorite Rochester bar for when I return from a trip. Reminds me why I live here.

Great when first opened and beautiful place with great selection of beers HOWEVER the only way to get service now is to sit at the bar rather than tables. When spoke with manager about the decline informed if not happy then shouldn't go there anymore. So now go to Grand Rounds Brewpub next door for great beer and service.

Been around the world and the Tap House has some of the best tacos I've ever had. Simple and extraordinary.

This is my new favorite bar in Rochester! Not only was there a great beer selection (including Bell's), but I had a delicious (alcoholic) chai drink to warm up with on a chilly fall night. Also, they were playing 90s music. It doesn't get better than that.

  • Jim K.

I expected to find a good selection of beers, but I was surprised at how wide the selection of craft beers there was to be found. They have beers from some of the best craft breweries that can be found, some that are only known in their local region. This speaks for the downstairs bar, but the upstairs bar has a completely different feel and vibe. I know it's a lot to ask for a pour house, but it would be sweet if they had a full menu to go with the beer and drink menu.

Nice clean place. Good food and drinks. Good atmosphere. Live music, patio, quick polite service.

Unique hand crafted cocktails are my favorite to try. Plenty of space for groups of friends. Love the outdoor space as a summer seating option. Wish they had a larger food menu.

Awesome beer, as expected. My only surprise here was the lack of a food menu? However, we ordered some sort of cracker/cheese appetizer, which was very tasty. Great ambiance, perfect location. Med City needs more restaurants like this!

One of the best patios in Rochester! Beer selection is great! Prices good! Location is great! Almost a 5 star but not there yet!!!

Sunday is trivia day at the Tap House - highly recommended. Bring a friend knowledgeable about the 50s to 80s as that comprised nearly a third of our questions from every round. I'm a 90s child and I have no powers in that era. In terms of food, their menu is very small and somewhat expensive. $9 for a Philly steak sub and $3 for a hot dog is high for Rochester standards. Add in fries and you have quite an expensive meal for bar food. That's all before any alcohol is involved. I ordered the Philly steak and fries, both of which I admit were subperb and served quickly. Luckily portion size is no issue because these come 'Merican big and I rolled away from the evening feeling pretty full. Service was average but I think I can forgive them as trivia night is quite busy on the rooftop. Looking to come back here frequently.

Nice beer selection. Limited food selection. Embarrassingly bad service. Slow. Inattentive. Slow... Did I mention slow and inattentive? We waited 5 minutes before being greeted by our server and when she did "greet" us, she just dropped off menus. Another 5 minutes at least until she came back to get our drink order. They were out of something for the first drink my wife ordered, so she had to make another choice. They were out of something for her second choice too. We ordered our food when we ordered our drinks because I feared how long it would take her to come back. The food was okay. The nachos looked great and tasted great. The wings came looking pretty unappetizing. 9 wings on a paper lined platter swimming in sauce. No blue cheese. No carrots and celery. We were never asked if we wanted a second drink. We piled our empty plates in the middle of the table after we were done eating and waited a good 5 minutes for the waitress to notice us. She didn't seem willing to multi-task. She came out to the patio, dealt with one table, then returned inside. She was at least prompt with running our card when we were ready to pay. After telling some friends and on Facebook I got comment after comment about how the service is always terrible at the Tap House. I don't think we'll be back.

The Tap house has great beer and you certainly wouldn't expect it either. I killed many a hours here when my brother was in the hospital. Great place with a very friendly staff. There isn't a kitchen here but they do have a few small items on the menu. Eat before you get here because you won't want to leave.

We really struck out with our two choices on a recent evening in Rochester (coincidentally, the locations are right next to each other). The good: The space is nice and has a large rooftop patio divided into two areas. There was live music just ending the night we were there. Also, great selection of beer with in-depth descriptions. We shared a flatbread and it was tasty... more like a pizza, in my opinion but very good. We got the Go Topless. The bad: Sadly, as with our experience at Grand Rounds the service was bad. Our young, bespectacled server pretty much ignored us. Took her sweet time greeting us and getting drink orders. We requested waters for the table but she didn't bring them with the beer. Asked again and five minutes later she was at the table next to us with no waters for us, so we asked her again. Then she came back out and spent five minutes chatting with a co-worker and breaking down an empty table before noticing our attempts to flag her down. Finally got the waters and then the flatbread arrived but we had no plates, napkins or silverware. Had to wait another few minutes to see a server to request them. Overall she had the attitude that she really did not think we were worth her time. Left a bad taste in our mouths despite the good food, beer and location.

I like it here. This is a great improvement over the old German place that was here. I enjoyed myself at the bar with Charles the bartender and he made us fantastic drinks. He was personable and made our experience a five star for certain. The cheese curds were delicious and I loved the batter on them. Fries were pretty dang delicious too. I'm going to make this my go-to when in Rochester.

Lots of beers listed but first four I requested were out although these were not marked on the menu. The place has plenty of levels and views but seems understaffed. We actually got our menus from unbussed tables around us. We noted the table nearest us was never biased from the time we arrived til when we left. The nachos were delicious but my burger was clearly not Ground chuck but a poor cut of meat that the kitchen new better not to serve rare. It came with the cheese but no bacon or "fixings" despite how it was listed in the menu. While called a "Bad Ass" burger on the menu there was nothing about threatening about this burger to any other purveyor of food. I could not recommend this burger to anyone. It's just bad cow. The waitress rarely attended and didn't seem to care about service, quality, or us.

Nice interior, but small bar. They were out of half their menu of beers and the bartender wasn't very polite. Maybe just don't go on a Wednesday.

This is a great little bar in a great location. They have 50 taps with many local choices. They are expanding next door which is good since its a little tight inside. They have a nice upper deck as well. Met the owner tonight. Which always makes the experience more fun for me.

Talk about knowing beer....this place has 50 different beers from all over the place on tap and the guy working behind the bar knows what he is talking about. Tried this porter, he can guide you to another one to compare. They are mighty free with sample size glasses too. They take care to serve the beers up to maximize each beer's attributes. Glasswear is used likewise. There is a rooftop area available which if the weather ever turns around might be really fun to try. They have a limited menu which I did not try. Most pints were in the $5-6 range, so very reasonable. Great decor, good service.

  • Jerry M.

Staff knew what they were talking about when it comes to beer and even had two sours on tap. Will be back when I am in town for sure.

This is a great place! Trust me, I get to visit a lot of different beer pubs around the country and this is one of the better ones. Being a West Coast guy, I'm very familiar with many of the West Coast breweries. Coming to a place like the Tap House lets me connect with a variety of regional brews that I would never get to try in LA.. The one glaring thing missing here is a kitchen. A beer pub without a food offering is just not right, Otherwise, The Tap House would be easily 5 stars.

If I could give this 0 stars - I would. My husband and I ventured in on a Friday night in early June, before the real crowds got there. We were visiting the "night life" of Rochester MN, and thought that this place looked a little like some of our Laguna Beach bars... So in we went, and up to the rooftop bar and lounge. Luckily, we found a small bar table in the middle of the bar area (yay) an sat down. We waited for about 10 minutes for a server - ANY server to help us. We watched the guy who was responsible for serving the bar area walk by us over and over, and serve other people who came in AFTER us....and we waited - and waited - and WAITED.... FINALY, we were approached by our server. No apology. NO real personality either. I ordered a craft beer as did my husband and we ordered some food to boot. Ordering was painful. How did this server no NOTHING about the beers he was serving? 53 beers available on tap and he has no knowledge of any of them? Really? When our beer had been poured, the server (FROM BEHIND THE BAR) motioned to me to come and pick up the beer at the bar...from my table. Ok. He served everyone else their beer to their table, but I had to go and pick my order up at the bar? I was beginning to put on my "Whatchu talkin bout Willis?" face. Seriously - Did we have "Im From California" written on our backs? Anyway...the beer was not very yummy (I've had so much better) and the food was just sad. I've been to many uptown bars and taphouses in LA and Laguna etc...this experience totally blew on the YOU STINK scale. Minnesota nice? Me thinks not.

Probably the best drinking experience outside a major US city you'll ever have. Great selection. Knowledgeable bartenders. Reasonable prices. Really an amazing Rochester find.

One of my favorite places to go. Very wide beer selection and good specialty drinks. The pizza is great and not too much food. Atmosphere is cosey and not drafty in the winter months. In the summer they often have live music on the rooftop.

50 taps makes a great place for a beer! Small selection of food after 3:00; generally appetizer-sized, i.e. bread/cheese. No complaints!

Favorite bar in town. 50+ beers on tap. Like the atmosphere. Exposed brick walls. Fire place. Roof deck is nice when it's not winter in MN.

Downtown Rochester needed a place just like this. Beer. Lots of delicious beer. In a nice comfortable setting. 50 beers on tap. Everything from IPAs to something flavored with a Lychee nut. Although I would have liked to see more local brews (Fulton was represented here, but Surly was in cans) the selection is great. A night out in downtown Rochester deserves a stop like this one.

When I'm back in town over a break or a holiday, I always go here with my friends from high school to catch up. They have 50 beers on tap, a small food menu, and the atmosphere has always been warm and enjoyable. During the summer when it's warm out, the patio on the second floor is especially nice. If you come here on a Friday or Saturday night, it can get very busy, and the servers become overwhelmed which can lead to long wait times. Even so, I won't be going anywhere else when I'm in Rochester; the Taphouse can't be beat.

A welcomed addition to the Med City. A ton on brews on tap and roof-deck make-up for the thin food menu.

  • Alison E.

Perfect place to grab a beer or quite a few beers. Huge selection. Nice vibe, cozy with a good collection of people. This is the type of place that Rochester needed downtown. I'll be heading here again when I'm back in town.

My fav place for a beer in Rochester. Nothing tops this place on selection of beers in Rochester, MN. However, skip on the food here (pizza was not good and over-priced, I've had better frozen pizza). Would be great if they could improve their apps.

Dropped into The Tap room last night for the first time and had a couple great beers with family before heading out for dinner. Nice spot downtown with two levels of seating with bars and when it's warm outside, seating on the roof. Fun place to go with friends.Good service. facebook.com/pages/The-T…

Many beers but poor service. Appetizers were few and underwhelming.

Historic old building with a modern restaurant and microbrewery. I don't drink beer, but it was interesting looking at the microbrewery which is viewed through large plate glass windows. The food was good, and the service was reasonably quick.

I've been here twice. It's a small, cozy place with 50+ beers on tap. Unlike other Rochester bars that pride themselves on their tap selection, you won't find 10 different variations of a domestic lager on their tap lines. "No crap on tap" describes this place well. It's all craft-beer, all the time at the Tap House. Beers are either $5 or $6 per pint. Service is friendly. Will definitely be going back.

Best bar in rochester. Food is just appetizers but they are good. Beer selection is fantastic although drinks are a little too sugary and just ok to be honest. Probably the best outdoor seating in rochester although its small so go early in the evening or early in the week if you want a table outside.

Stopped at the Tap House this weekend and we both had a 4-flight. All good beers, bar none! Possibly some served a little bit too cold for craft beers, but we enjoyed each of them anyway. If only they'd have had a kitchen we would have stayed longer and would have given them 5 stars.

    (4)
  • Gavin W.

The Tap House has the best beer selection in downtown Rochester, if not Rochester altogether. 40-50 beers on tap. As a beer enthusiast, I was only slightly disappointed that many of them were also available and even quite prevalent in liquor stores. As a result of their location, quality of beers, and the market itself, the drinks are relatively expensive. This place is fairly small and is definitely not the kind of place you get wasted at on a weekend night. Instead, it is more of a location to grab a beer with a friend after work. If you're trying to get wasted, go elsewhere. If you're trying to enjoy a beer, go here.

Love this place, great drinks and atmosphere, very casual, 50 different kinds of beer on tap. Pretty decent food, nachos are good.

Met my sister and her family here over the weekend for drinks and dinner, what a fun place. We tried a couple different brews, they were great. The atmosphere is very casual with historic items on the walls and cozy. We just ordered nachos and appetizers and they were very good. Its right downtown which is handy, parking is on the street or use a ramp.

Charles is a great bartender with a great personality. I look forward to our return trip to Rochester to taste his mixology skills in terms of cocktails!

    (5)
  • Emily B.

Drinks were underwhelming at best and the bartender short poured all mixed drinks. It was a holiday weekend and no one was in town and service was still slow. Even sitting at the bar we had to flag down bartenders. One female bartender even looked at us and continued to ignore us. Not worth the $14 for two drinks.
