I try to make it a point to go grab a gyro a couple times a month from Zakia. It is a small store, love the outdoor seating in the summer though. I tend to just stick to the gyro sandwich or plate but I've brought many a friends in that are more adventurous then I and they have all been happy with what they ordered. Well worth the try, with an almost unheard of friendly staff/owner, low prices. This past month I also finally figured out that they do catering (I pick it up in tin trays and serve it up) I again sticked to the basics but it was a hit and I saved a ton over the reg. place I used.

this was a pleasant find in the middle of my marathon meetings day. scurrying around town, i only had a few minutes to grab a bite to eat and was fully expecting to run into a mcdonalds to get some processed burgers when i fell upon zakai. it clearly looked family run and i was glad to see both owner and chef (husband and wife) in the store, along with their local hired help. i ordered a chicken gyro with everything on it and was pleased with the amount of food i received. i wouldn't say it was great, and i would have to try their hummus and other authentically lebanese dishes (though don't know if i'll ever be back other than for work), before making full judgments. but for what i had and tasted, i was sufficiently pleased before walking into another meeting.

Zakia Deli is a family run delicatessen with a focus on Lebanese and American standards. You will often find the owner working the front and his Mother working in the kitchen. The hot lunch specials change on a week long daily rotation which ranges from chicken with rice to kafta. The refrigerated case offers standard Lebanese fare including lubnay and stuffed grape leaves. Sandwich offerings include the expected gyro and falafel as well as various build your own American deli standards. Unfortunately the freshness of the food is a bit hit and miss. The falafel is outstanding when fresh, but can be rather stale depending on the day. Some days they are mysteriously sold out of their standard items without a clue of when they will have a fresh batch. Depending on who is serving you a meal may include satisfying amounts of side dishes or ridiculously tiny servings. Overall if you are near then it is better than the various chain restaurants in the immediate area, but I would not go out of my way to visit them.

I had been biking passed this place for a few months when finally, I was biking home, had time AND a hankering for hummus! So I locked up and walked in, breathing deeply, for the air, is full of spices. Next time I will sit down and enjoy my meal instead of stuffing it into my face when I get home. I ordered the kafta meatball sandwich with a side of lebanese salad. If I had sat down I also would have ordered two sandwiches. Not because it was small, but because I am a glutton. The salad was great, but near the end it got to be too lemony. I'm not sure of what to suggest, but the kafta meatball sandwich was great! Next time I'll probably get the lamb sandwich. My next trip here will hopefully be soon! I'm already hungry for some garbanzo bean salad.

Zakia is a cute, randomly placed, Lebanese deli that also serves up standard deli staples (build your own sandwich, philly cheesesteaks and the like, chips, bottled beverages, etc.). They have a couple outdoor seats for the 2 months I can stand the weather (jokes...I'm just bitter about hibernation season starting) and the indoor area is always clean and bright. I've seen the same women there every time I've gone and they're always pleasant and accommodating (I don't necessarily want it "to-go"...can you just kind of wrap it so I can bring it with me when I have to leave? Oh you can? Why, thank you!) Not often can one walk into an establishment and have the option of ordering a philly with a side of hummus and pita...which is exactly what I did. The hummus is better than most places in the cities and the philly was surprisingly tasty! The bread it's served on is perfect. I've also "built my own" sandwich here and it was pretty average. The garlic sauce was a tad too strong (read: sour) and an option to have it heated would've been great. I can't comment on the actual Lebanese food having only tried the hummus but everything looked fresh and appetizing. There's this rice they (sometimes?) have that is tasty. Maybe it's because we always end up going after the lunch rush but they haven't had it out the last couple times. I misssssss this rice so try it if they have it!

Holy Danny Thomas, a Lebanese deli, just when I was wondering where I was going to get my next falafel after my beloved Abu Nader closed its doors, I run into these reviews. It was late, around 7, and not sure what I was in the mood for, and this abundant bowl of spaghetti behind the glass was a picture. They do a very clever mix of American comfort food and Middle East flavors. An hour before closing they still had a huge variety of sides and salads and I had to choose 2. I got the roasted red pepper hummus and chicken pasta salad. I had a taste of the chick pea salad and it needed more oil because it left some water in the cup. I tried my husbands falafel and spinach pie, and with lent coming up these are lenten staples. I can see us coming here weekly mainly because they hit the trinity, Good, Cheap, and Fast. They also specialize in sandwiches and burgers. I wish they offered some veg versions of their entree daily specials. I sampled the Dave Basha meatball dish, it had this delicious red sauce. Friday fish looks promising. Some desserts are homemade and some aren't. We took home an interesting custard one blanketed with coconut, strong, but yum. They actually have a handicapped ramp, and a nice lot. Plus if you need a cop, come here.

I'm not a regular of many places, but I go to Zakia at least a few times a month and sometimes several. The staff are always friendly and some of them even know exactly what I want...the grilled chicken sandwich. This sandwich is amazing. Garlic-y and delicious. The roll they put it on is amazing as well. I've also had some of their deli items and daily specials and everything I've had has been great.

Nice combination of Lebanese and American food.

Great Lebanese food made from the heart. What more can you ask for. This little find in Northeast exemplifies home cooking in a somewhat fast food settling. The family cooks and the owner is a genuine guy who believes in fresh, healthy food. It's a destination... Worth the trip.

I love this Deli! I rarely give 5 stars for any place. On Monday's you must try their lubnay omelette. Their dolmas/stuffed grape leaves are the best. Also the falafel is really good. The service is excellent and they frequently offer a bite to taste - that's how I found out about the lubnay omelette. I keep on trying to convince them they should offer it everyday.

Met a friend for lunch here and loved it! I ordered the chicken, olive, rice special (excuse me for not remembering the exact name....), but it was delicious. My entree came with a side of grape leaves (that were wonderful!). My friend ordered a sandwich that was also yummy. Top that off with outdoor seating and a great conversation, definitely a great way to spend a lunch hour.

Zakia's is the best deli in Minneapolis. I've eaten many things from the menu, they are all delicious. The staff is quick, friendly and very polite.

My husband and I found this place while looking for something else. I couldn't tell what it was as we drove by, we could hardly even tell if it was open. We turned around a couple blocks later, and by doing so we made the best decision of our day. It's small and there was only two other customers already eating when we walked in. I had never had Lebanese food before and the gentleman behind the counter was quick to help, offering us samples and information. I chose the Kafta special and was surprised to find that it came with 2 sides. My husband ordered the Kibbi sandwich and 2 dolmas. The food was really good and I think that's all my American mind needs to know. Whether or not it is authentic enough does not bother me. It was good food, with generous portions, and a very friendly and helpful staff. I will definitely suggest this place to others.

This place is in a rather remote part of NE, on Stinson Blvd near Broadway... but it's worth a visit for the quality of the food here. We usually get take-out, since the decor is more of a cafe setting, which is great for a quick lunch, but maybe not great for an evening out, it's a "deli" afterall. I love the tilapia, and have also had several salads from the case, all very, very good. The place is clean and the staff are really sweet. I'll have to try the falafel sandwich soon, based on the reviews here, they are supposed to be fantastic. I would pick this place over Holy Land if you're looking for middle eastern food.

A great place to go eat the food is always amazing. I go eat here at least 2 times a week because I work right across the street from this place. Today I had the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and potato salad. I wont finish it all because it's a lot of food to stomach but it is very good. This place never fails me.

Try the falafel sandwich, and make sure they add their tahini sauce, pickle, and yellow peppers. The roommate swears by the baba ghanoush and their baklava is delicious. I can't seem to order beyond the falafel sandwich because it's so dang good. I've tried the chickpea salad, but it was mediocre; it's something one could easily make it at home. Otherwise, the place is clean, small, and the staff are friendly. Definitely a great place for takeout. Try it!

Zakia was a wee little deli, and a wee little deli was he... (C'mon, don't tell me you don't remember that song from Sunday School...) In the quest for the perfect gyro, this fell somewhere toward the middle-bottom. The gyro meat was moist enough, but not very flavorful. The tsatsiki sauce was a little...off-tasting (and there was WAY too much of it in the gyro). But Zakia does try really hard. The owner was out front cheerfully pushing daily-special-samples on us ("You don't have to order it, but try it!"). They also made little vegetable frowny-faces in their deli-order baba ganouj. Does that make it taste better? I don't know. But it does make me feel like they have a sense of humor and care about their food.

So after driving past this place over and over again, Rhianne M. and I finally decided to stop in. Too bad we hadn't done so sooner. This place is delicious! The service was great. They let us try anything we wanted and we were practically full before we even ordered anything. We ended up getting the falafel and the burguhl. Both were excellent. We have tried a few other middle eastern restaurants throughout Minneapolis, and based on service, variety, and taste, this place is definitely towards the top of my list. The place itself is rather small and over the lunch hour can get a bit crowed, but if you go at a down time, you're likely to have a great experience.

This place is a gem! The staff and owner were very friendly. He offered us some of the daily special which was soooo good. It was some kind of rice and tilapia dish. We ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and the kafta meatball sandwich. Can't go wrong with either of these. I wanted to order another one immediately. Just try it. Great place.
