Solid, simple, delicious and good. The Lowry is a no brainer if you want a good burger with good service and good atmosphere. We pulled in after seeing the marquee sign professing "BURGERS WHISKEY OYSTERS EGGS" as their focus. Being a fan and expert on all four subjects, it seemed like a no brainer to check this place out. And I'm glad we did! The fried jalapeno cheese curds were of course good and went so so well with the blueberry ketchup. Duh. No brainer. The turkey burger was quite good but the listed peppers, peanuts, curry spices, pepper jack & poblano pesto were kind of lost on me. It was basically just a good, basic turkey burger. I did not note any of the additional highlighted ingredients. The namesake Lowry burger with bbq sauce, cheese and fried shallots was also quite good, but felt too reliant on the sweet bbq sauce. I added a fried oyster for $2 and was surprised to find it came on a toothpick, instead of on the burger. Regardless, it was also good. Good all around. We look forward to check out their all day breakfast as it also looked.... really good.

Good place to get a nice breakfast. You have to get here early to beat the rush, but the food is consistent and a good value. We've tried most everything on the breakfast menu, and it is hard to pick a favorite.

Really good food, and a nice variety. Wish they had more non-meat options, but the few they have are tasty. Also really enjoy their beer and cider selection. Service is hit-and-miss though: Had some great, friendly experiences and also some cool service and very long waits. Still, overall pretty good, especially in the area.

Great Bloody Mary's! This is a great Sunday brunch place and its obvious since its crowded the minute you walk in and hard to find parking. We called ahead since they don't take reservations and still had to wait 20 minutes for a table. The Ranchero was recommended by the waiter and did not disappoint. The pulled pork was cooked to perfection. And it was topped with an avocado and eggs. Yum! The service and waiter was great too!

I have been to lowery many time and by far my favorite waiters are Zachary and Karen. They have that extra special touch and really understand the menu. They know the perfect time to stop by and answe a q and when to stay away. They have great happy hour and wonderful lowery burger and turkey burger . What a great casual dinner and happy hour location for any group, family or on a date. Make sure to get the oysters on HH

I have been here several times since falling IN LOVE with their eclectic menu. HOWEVER. A few weeks ago, I was in and after a meal I asked to move to a more private booth in the back of the restaurant to continue a delicate conversation. During my time in said booth, I may have kissed a girl. Maybe twice. But nothing serious. A few moments later, our AMAZING server approached us to let us know the manager had said we had to stop kissing and/or leave. Needless to say, we felt extremely uncomfortable and discriminated against. We paid and on our way out I said, "Have a good night" to the host and he literally just didn't speak to us. I never write negative reviews and I truly love their food and their service staff enough that I would never initiate this if it hadn't affected my personal life. I now feel like I can't kiss a girl in MINNEAPOLIS (of all awesome, gay-friendly places) without "getting in trouble"...... sad experience dot com the end.

Great *new* patio, good service, awesome kids menu, fab turkey burger and overall great experience! Had a great dinner there recently and will for sure be going back soon!

Wow!!! Breakfast here is awesome. And the beer menu is stunningly impressive and unexpected. Be prepared for wait times on weekend mornings that are well worth your time!

Addicted to the spinach frittata. Cannot bring myself to try anything else. Great vibe. Fabulous outdoor patio. Seniors, families, hipsters, yuppies - diversity is the name of the game here. Staff continues to impress me - warm, caring & helpful.

The Lowry is a solid neighborhood joint. Which is to say I wouldn't travel too terribly far to get here. The place is very nicely designed, and the service was great. I was on the 4/5 star train right up until the food/drink showed up. I got a mimosa, and it was good. Clearly fresh squeezed orange juice. I say clearly because the flute was covered in pulp and juice that missed the glass. I ordered the Farmer's Breakfast. The eggs were good and so too were the hash browns that came stacked on top of the eggs. I got the onions on the side, which was a recommendation from a Lowry regular (it was a good call). The egg/hasbrown combo was covered in cheese. At first bite it was good, not great. But i noticed that my plate was glistening with oil and grease. A large and noticeable pool formed around my eggs. Needless to say it was not a super appetizing plate. I also shared the french toast, which was quite good. My general sense is that the Lowry turns out pretty good food, but nothing that blows you away.

Tasteful cocktails, oysters, and the best chilaquiles I've had outside of Mexico. It's quite impressive what they've done with the derelict Hollywood Video building. The bar is cozy, with discreetly solicitous bartenders. Kasey describes the chilaquiles the way I would - total comfort food for a late weekend morning. I haven't been around for a sit-down dinner yet, but it won't be long.

I always imagined the Lowry was the Lorax's cousin or something. As it turns out it is a nice cafe in Uptown run by the Pat's Tap people. Whats even better is that you can hear yourself think here. Its a great place to try unique craft beer and sample some stylized bar food. The decor is kind of an upscale diner vibe. I thought it was cute. The beer list is fairly extensive. I tried an Unearthly IPA and found it very good. The Tempura Beans were a great appetizer. A very light breading found these tasty without being too filling. I forgot the plum dip until halfway through. It was sweet but good. My Lowry Burger was cooked medium just as I requested. The flavor was very nice. The fried shallots were ok, but you wouldn't know them from onions. The bacon was cooked nicely. Overall it was a flavorful refined burger. The side of coleslaw had craisins in it, something lighter just like I wanted. My wife's burger (Peter's) was also nice. I don't really get the egg on the burger thing - but my wife did. She liked it. The side of fries wasn't bad, but nothing special. For dessert we shared a blueberry crisp. It comes warm with a scoop of ice cream. The hot/cold thing works well. Its a perfect way to top this meal off. Maybe if the Lorax had served good food like his cousin, no one would have had time for thneeds and we would still have truffula trees. Just sayin'

chocolate banana waffles, Farmer's breakfast with cheddar melted over hash browns over carmelized onions over eggs, and the Egg white scramble with green beans, tomatoes etc: all fantastic. Great atmosphere prevails with a super-friendly staff in a one and a half year old upscale, clean diner. What a great breakfast--which they serve until 4 PM for all the late-sleepers.

What a pleasant surprise. Stopped by for one and was totally impressed by the décor (nice washroom) and the people working here. Easy going crowd. The food looked good. Smokin' fast WiFi too.

I had the turkey burger with side of yam fries! Just amazing!! The best turkey burger so far. I would definitely go back to this place. Ambience was very nice. Free parking.

This place was crammed and loud on a Wednesday night. Our server was fantastic - knowledgeable and patient. Unfortunately, I didn't love what I ordered (bacon pancakes with chipotle maple syrup) - but then again, pancakes for dinner may have been a misplaced "good" idea. My friends ordered a fish burger and mac and cheese, however, and loved both. I'll go back.

So I realized that I have left out one of my favorite parts about the Lowry - the drink menu! Since my 2nd visit, I discovered their drinks and have worked my way through the list. My go to is the Lane Zamprey but the BattleCat has a unique kick. More recently, they have mixed things up and now the Snarf is my new favorite! Almost so good, it's dangerous.

When you drive by The Lowry you will notice their sign proclaiming their flagship foods. Particuarly Oysters and Whiskey. Oysters and Whiskey? Yes, Oysters and Whiskey. It turns out Oysters and Whiskey go together like Laurel and Hardy, Siskel and Ebert, Sanford and Son, Eggs and Bacon... well you get the idea. The Lowry is a much needed and welcome edition to the Lowry Hill neighborhood. Every time I drop by the employees are always very warm, friendly, and prompt. They are great about checking back and refilling drinks Good service in Uptown? Yes it's possible.. It almost felt like the service you get in the suburbs, only less fake. Besides the Oysters and Whiskey, which are excellent, they also have really good burgers and fantastic hash browns. The bartenders will also make you a fresh cocktail with some nice selections to choose from. The prices are definitely on the steeper side which is to be expected for a restaurant located in Lowry Hill. And while they do have Happy Hour specials, they aren't exactly dirt cheap. This place is a unique fit in the world of Uptown. It's nothing like your Meat Market type of places like Chino Latino. It's not really cheap enough to come here while you are drunk and eat the night away. It's not cheap enough to come here and drink the night away either. It's also not super fancy but you probably wouldn't feel comfortable wearing sweatpants here either. I would say it's a nice place to take your parents when they are visiting you.

The Lowry has a high population of "clean plate club" individuals, that much I'm sure of. Eggs Benedict, Spinach Frittata and the Ciabatta French Toast will leave you feeling huge, happy, and in need of an afternoon nap.

Personally I was hoping for more. The ambience is very good, and the design of the place is great except for the LCD screens playing sports. Yes, it is a rich suburb restaurant in the middle of uptown. The waiters are green so they don't know that when semeone is lactase intolerant 1% milk is not a viable choice. Still very helpful. An older review had it right. The food is safe. They tried to spruce it up but it's regulaf fare. Like the windows so I'll probably be back someday.

Nice spot but I expected a bit more. But maybe I should have ordered something off the breakfast menu. I had the turkey burger and decided to upgrade to the daily soup (a "seafood" soup). My main issue with the burger was the bun. It was served on a cheap egg bun. And my soup shouldn't have been called "Seafood Soup." I was only got one tiny piece of seafood in it so that was disappointing. For an appetizer, we ordered the French Fry Poutine. Ive never had that before and I loved it. I did like our server. He was in really good spirits and very accommodating to our special water requests.

Mmmm. The food here is delicious, comfort food at its best. I've only been here for dinner, but I hear their brunch is divine. My meatloaf was savory and moist, and the spicy ketchup made me get over my normal ketchup aversion. The drink menu is extensive, and were it not so crowded, I could see myself spending a while there with drinks and a good book. So why three stars, you wonder? The service. I came in with a friend at 6 PM, and the restaurant was packed on a Tuesday. We were told there was a 45 minute wait, and that was being optimistic. Since this was a long time and we were hungry, we took a moment sitting in the lobby to decide what to do. The hostess staff kept coming over to us with annoyed looks on their faces telling us we needed to make a decision. After about 5 minutes, we decided to stay, and we were seated 5 minutes later. I don't know where 45 minutes came from, but the hostesses should get better at estimating unless they want to scare away diners! Our waiter was helpful and the food came quickly, but I kept being distracted by one waitress walking by us wearing fishnets and a skirt that barely covered her bum. NOT the best sight when you're about to eat! Another thing about this place is the clientele-- if you are a hipster, you may be shocked at being the only one of your type here. This is more of a yuppie place, full of very attractive couples in their late-twenties, attractive businessmen getting drinks, attractive groups of woo girls...you get the idea. At some point, I felt like I was in the midst of a commercial for insurance or tampons. The decor was homey, but the people surrounding me...not so much.

This place is pretty solid. Foodies may find the menu a little safe...you'll see the typical deviled eggs, curds, poutine, etc that you see on every other modern diner menu in a 5 mile radius... but I think they will be pleased at the execution. I was. I had the fish tacos and wow, they tasted fresh. They ranked with the best of them. Mr. Hemingway had a burger... it was done right. For those that complain of a greasy mess when they order a burger... hint... even if you like your red meat rare... try ordering your burger medium rare or even medium... you'll find your burger structure to be more sound :). The menu is pretty vast and keeps to the theme of being a diner. Beer snobs will also find this to be a nice spot to try new microbrews and seasonals. Good solid joint. Update! 12/05/11 Made another trip the Lowry and they delivered yet again. I'll start off commenting on the service. We were meeting a group of friends there on a Friday evening around 7ish, busy time right? It was pretty packed as expected. I ordered the Coney Island Sword Swallower and waited patiently. Everyone elses drinks came out, but mine. I was sad. I felt lonely. I waited some more. Finally waived down our waiter. He apologized and found out they were out of the Coney Island brew. He immediately took my order and wallah, in less than 20 seconds had the Oyster Stout in hand. It was delicious and meant to be. :) AND, they comped it. That's proper service recovery right there folks. Let me also comment on their cheese curds, but more importantly, their BLUEBERRY KETCHUP...WOW! Not overly sweet, but tasty and oh so delicious! Me and another guy couldn't keep our fingers out of it even after the curds were gone... we claim we were trying to decipher all of the ingredients in it...which of course meant multiple tastings. I know, gross! The fried green beens were also a winner - the dipping sauce was full of sweet sesame flavor! Mr. Hemingway and I split the Turkey Burger... it was just "ok" compared to everything else. The Lowry - check it out!

This place has become my regular hangout. The happy hour specials are great, the bartenders make classic cocktails, and there is a great beer and wine selection. I've also had the oysters here - always fresh and delicious. It's great that they put a * next to beers on their list that will go well with oysters. That being said, I tend to only come here to hang out in the bar. The bar food and drinks are great, but the few times I've sat in the dining room I've been disappointed. The food and atmosphere are just so-so. It seems like this place hasn't quite figured out what it wants to be - an upscale bar, or a hip restaurant. Right now it's succeeding at the first, and failing at the latter.

Came in on the 4th of July. Outside was packed but few people inside so we sat there. Drinks were really good. Ordered a small ceaser salad and it was pretty tasteless. Very under-dressed and as a result very over-priced. For an entree I had the penne with bolonese sauce and requested prosciutto for an extra $5.00, Pasta came without the prosciutto. When the waitress finally came back she had it re-fired pretty quick which was nice. The wife had some great baby back ribs and we split the mac and cheese which was a wonderful side. Overall, not bad but nothing to go out of the way for unless you really want to eat outside.

I was instantly sold on trying out The Lowry before leaving Minneapolis after seeing peanut butter pancakes on the menu. It was an absolute treat! The pancakes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with a delicious custard topping, a huge gallop of peanut butter, candied peanuts, and what appears to be homemade whipped cream. We also decided to try the sausage and gravy (because lets be honest, that's one of my favs) and I enjoyed the mild gravy taste with chunky pieces of meat... not salty whatsoever! We kind of threw a curveball and decided to try the tempura fried green beans and the dipping sauce sweet and kind of honey like consistency! Service was fast, friendly, and super attentive. The restaurant was nice and open with lots of seating options and it seemed like a happening place for weekend cocktails!

3 for 3, I take this stuff seriously, well at least as much as you can when you pair your dinner entree with 2x $3.00 rolling rocks. Had great service last night, Food was great as well. enjoyed the oysters, wish I could find a cheaper place to enjoy fresh oysters, Oh well Loved the Meatloaf and the Steak medallions. We have a great time here three times in a row and looking forward to the 4th,

We wanted to take a group of seven here for dinner. So, we called early in the afternoon, and they said we could call an hour ahead and be at the top of the list. We called an hour ahead and mentioned we had a party of seven and they said they'd have a table waiting. We arrived and they informed us that calling ahead only worked for parties of two or four, but if we'd wait thirty minutes we'd be seated then. After thirty minutes, they told us they'd made a mistake and it would be another thirty minutes plus. They were belligerent and we left. However, they menu looks intriguing, and the atmosphere is nice. There's a fireplace, and large, comfortable-looking booths.

Loved it! We had the battered green beans for an appetizer, these were awesome and so was the dipping sauce, it kinda had an Asian flare to it.. Yummy! I got the Mac and cheese which was good, but may have overdid the white cheese flavor, it still was tasty. Other person I was with had the parmesan eggplant, mmm! Then we shared the tomato soup, and I'm not a fan of tomato soup usually because it boring... But this, this soup was amazing! It had melted cheese over the top and very flavorful with just the right seasonings. :) will def be back again. Also loved the look and feel of this place and all staff was super friendly. I expected good things from this place, but they exceeded my expectations!!

For some reason I had the impression that this place would be a little snobby/not very welcoming. But it was the opposite. The bartender was super nice and helpful. They had an impressive beer list. They also have well-priced yummy apps for snacking. I'll be back!

I suggest making reservations on a friday or sat since it was jam packed when we went. However the second time we went it was a sunday so not as busy/didnt have to wait. The food was pretty good, not amazing but not bad. However it was a little overpriced. I got a special the first time which was gnocchi with peas and panchetta (mmmmmmm) it was pretty good but really small portion. The 2nd time I got the porkchops with crispy onions and polenta. It was alright, but what bummed me was that they covered the dish with a marinara sauce which totally overpowered everything! The key lime cheesecake was divine and so was my dad's beef stroganoff (super creamy!) I think I'll give this place another shot and try something different. But overall food was mediocre and a bit overpriced. Nice atmosphere though.

I've been meaning to check out the Lowry for a few months & finally did this morning for breakfast. I ordered the peanut butter waffle & Ryan ordered the biscuits and gravy. I absolutely loved the waffles! They were delicious & the perfect amount. I tried some of Ryan's plate which was also great. I liked the gravy a lot & the hashbrowns were excellent as well. Very cool ambiance & very good service. Can't wait to return to try lunch or dinner!

I love bacon week! The Lowry makes an amazing bacon bloody. In fact it also may be one of the best in uptown. Don't worry though. If its not bacon week then the regular bloodies are still amazing. They also have a great atmosphere. Its trendy and still very intimate at the same time. Staff is always friendly. In my opinion this place is great for happy hour. Drinks and apps are great but when it comes to looking for somewhere to have dinner I would look elsewhere. The food here is good.....it just isn't amazing.

Best chilaquiles in town! I like sitting at the bar for breakfast. Service from the bartenders is friendly and attentive in a low-key way. I am giving The Lowry four stars based on the Chilaquiles alone. It's been difficult to find chilaquiles in The Cities that satisfied something other than my craving for novelty. These chilaquiles (I must note I ordered without any dairy products) are spicy, the chorizo is ground into smaller crumbles than usual (a plus) and doesn't taste as greasy. It's also mixed very cohesively with a bed of black beans, and the tortilla chips become the perfect level of soggy/crisp when sitting underneath all the saucy, spicy goodness. I would come back for this on a daily basis. I have been to The Lowry one other time for dinner and was not overly impressed. I've liked my experiences at other Blue Plate restaurants more (Highland Grill, Longfellow Grill), but the menu at The Lowry is a little more upscale and diverse (oysters, draught wines, etc.). The Lowry will have to persuade me a little more on the dinner, but for breakfast at the bar, I give it a solid four stars.

My bartender Matt B. was very attentive and energetic. The food was Ah-mazing....I had the meatloaf as my hubby enjoyed the steak salad. By chance I was seated next to the owners mother. She graciously shared her fried chicken with me. Great location, awesome company and good food. I highly recommend you do it!!

This was an easy four stars (I'll briefly outline why I took the 5th out). But I have a ton of good things to say about The Lowry: great menu, good prices, lots of booths, nice decor, good service. One of my favorite things is to look at a menu and see so much that I want to eat, that I know I'll be coming back. Then to have the actual ordered items be fresh, delicious and exactly as described is my ideal experience. We had a burger and the deviled eggs and a grilled ceasar. Let me say the grilled ceasar was out of this world and did not rely of the (to me) amateurish too much garlic thing. Hate that. Our server was great, the female hostess was not great. She seated us in the booth right next to her and with a view of the kitchen. Lots more available. She spent a lot of time staring. Hey, my husband's an awesome looking guy, so I get it. I'm not half bad myself. And scene. So that's why I withheld the final star and maybe we should have asked to move to a different booth. Will definitely go back and recommend highly to others.

This place is in my neighborhood and is a go-to for me. The menu is very diverse and the staff is always willing to customize your order. The best part about going there is the friendliness of the staff. Always greeted and made to feel welcome. Some of my favorite food is the turkey BLT, the salmon, The mussels. Great selection of beer too.

The Lowry has filled the void that Town Talk left for me. After eating here way, way too much, I think I have had pretty much most things on the menu either by ordering them myself or sampling a friends. We came here for my boy's birthday and ate a batshit ton of oysters rockafeller. So, after trying pretty much everything here are my favorites: Snack: Deviled Eggs Breakfast- Crepes Lunch-Grilled Cheese Sandwich, it comes with a shotglass of great tomato basil soup, which is what I have always wanted. Enough for dunking, but none to waste since I hate eating tomato soup. Light Dinner- Steak Salad. Honestly scrumdiddlyuptious. Heavy Dinner for my French-Canadian Honey- Crepes Pot-au-Feu. The poutine can also be a dinner by itself if you want to feel fat for ten days. I still haven't decided about the Hang Town Fry. I might have been too drunk to remember, but it was really great drunk. It is weird. But good drunk. Favorite drink? The Fog Cutter. It's like Lowry's KO Punch.

I finally checked out the latest restaurant on Hennepin in Uptown - The Lowry. Finally somebody decided to do something with the old Hollywood Video (R.I.P.) other than letting it be a seasonal Halloween store or a graffiti canvas. Here is my take: Space/ambience: Pretty good but not awesome. It leans more modern, heavy use of wood, clean lines, etc. The booths lining the perimeter look to be cozy but unfortunately we had a table for two in the middle of the restaurant (I hate that). It was too chilly to sit outside but the patio area appeared to have potential. I guess my 'problem' with the aesthetic is it feels a little slick, shiny, cold, not so charming, etc. I get it that it is a new space but look at Muddy Waters - that's a new space that nailed it in terms of cozy and having character. Drinks: I had a great cocktail, the Brown Derby; a mix of bourbon, honey and grapefruit. It was $7 which I'd say is pretty standard. It was really small but hey, it's bourbon so that's probably a good thing! They have a fairly large beer assortment. Where they fell down in my book was the wine pricing - the only inexpensive glass option is an $8 glass of Kenwood Merlot. In Minneapolis??? No thanks. Food: Extensive menu ranging from burgers to comfort foods like meatloaf and mac n cheese. They also seem to be pushing an oyster bar idea plus traditional bar food (wings, fries, curds and so on). I tried to order the spinach salad but they were out of the ingredients (?) so I went with the tuna & white bean salad which was delicious. It's served over 2 gigantic pieces of ciabatta; tasty but I didn't really need all of that so I shared with Mr. B. He, being a meat-n-potatoes kinda guy, went with steak & pierogies and was quite happy. The 'snacks' menu turns into the late night menu which goes until 1am. Sunday-Thursday they have a late night happy hour, 10-12am. Those same deals run Monday-Friday from 4 to 6pm as well. Service: good. Pricing: Not cheap but not terrible. My salad was $11 and was more than enough food. I already mentioned my issue with the wine pricing. Food pricing seemed pretty comparable to similar joints in the n'hood. Two drinks and 2 meals put us out around $40 before tip. Logistics: huge parking lot but you can't access it from Hennepin so you have to either go up and around on Franklin or cut in behind to access the lot.

I brought my sisters here for lunch last weekend and can't wait to go back and try some of their breakfast and brunch items soon. I love the layout of the restaurant, and loved even more that there's a parking lot right next to it. I had the Oyster Peacemaker which was pretty good. Though I was a little disturbed to find raisins in my cole slaw. I know some people are huge fans of that, but nature's candy doesn't belong in my coleslaw, or near my oysters for that matter. But, I still enjoyed my sandwhich. My sisters had the grilled cheese and a turkey BLT. They both enjoyed their meals, especially the one with the grilled cheese. Our server was pleasant enough, but not terribly attentive. Most of the time we spent in the restaurant was after our meals were finished waiting for the check, then another consideragble wait before she came back to cash us out. But, I saw several plates of pretty tasty looking food go by while we were waiting that wil be enough to lure me back to try again. I'll just make sure I have more time to linger around next time.

Our family of 5 visited at noon on Saturday. It was very busy and we had to wait 30 minutes to be seated (they told us 30 to 40 min.), but it was worth the wait. Every one of us loved our meals. I had the chilaquiles and it was better than I've had in Mexico! Other dishes we loved were the biscuits & gravy and the breakfast burrito. We'll be back!

Like many of the other reviewers, I like Blue Plate's restaurants. But the Lowry's food didn't even come close to measuring up to their other establishments like the Highland Tap and the Longfellow Grill. I went there with my girlfriend and we looked at the menu before deciding to eat there. I ordered the bacon cheddar burger and she ordered the oyster sandwich. The service was a bit unusual, as two different employees came up to our table and introduced themselves, not quite sure why but it didn't particularly bother me. I figured one was the wait assistant and one was the waitress maybe? Frankly, our waitress was very nice and professional and upon leaving I felt a bit sad for her knowing that she'd have to endure this place day after day. The food was bad. It wasn't inedible-bad, it was just your standard, bad food. My burger and fries were shockingly similar to an extra value meal at McDonalds. The ground beef patty even had that sculpted shape that you see with machine pressed burgers at fast food restaurants. I cannot lie, I ate the whole thing as I was very hungry. But it really did feel like I was eating at McDonalds, except the bacon was a bit better than you'd get in the fast food world. My girlfriend ordered an oyster sandwich and only made it a few bites it. I didn't taste it, but she vouched for the fact that it contained soggy raisins and the oysters were virtually nothing but fried breading. At least she got the same side of McDonalds fries! So two fast-food quality meals for 23 dollars. I don't think so, Lowry. It was bad, bad, bad. Not the worst I've ever had, just real bad. If you want to eat at the Lowry, I'd suggest you go to McDonalds instead. You'll get the same food for 60% less. I've heard they have great drink specials. So this place may have some saving graces. But their food ain't one of them.

We have been to The Lowry several times now and have yet to be disappointed. My favorite dishes there are the Steak Salad and the Eggplant Parmesan. They also have a great kids menu. My 3 year old loves their French Toast. :-) My husband always seems to enjoy their beer selection. We have brought both sets of parents here who enjoy it as much as we do. The ambiance is nice...hard to believe we used to rent our videos here when it was formerly a Hollywood Video! I like that you can go there with friends as well as family. Service has always been good, not always the friendliest, but overall good. We'll definitely be coming back regularly!

Great food, one of my favorite spots in Uptown. Huge beer and drinks list. Food menu has something for everyone.

Well, I don't really like the Lowry, but I see why other people do. The food is interesting (blueberry ketchup!) and they have a good tap list. However, I have never had a good server there and they have very little I can eat with my food restrictions. The atmosphere is very nice - fireplace, cozy booths, etc. I definitely feel comfortable when I'm there. I feel like anyone would feel at home there: my grandparents for breakfast, my parents on a date, young twenty-somethings at brunch, etc. I think they cater well to a lot of audiences. I just can't get over the prices! $7 for a Fox Barrel cider that's half ice? No fun. It doesn't seem like a good idea, either, with Liquor Lyle's just across the street with double the drinks for half the price. I'll be sticking around there instead.

Originally, I was going to rate this a little higher. Turns out, I TOO (see other reviews) got food poisoning from there this week. Not to say that the food was bad, but come on. You're a new place, you'd think you'd at least take care of your food. Furthermore, parking is horrible. Granted it is uptown and that's what you expect, but still, we were told we could not use the parking lot that night because there was group event. Service wise: decent. While she didn't rush us, she did take her time on bringing the bill, getting our order in, etc. I will say, she did come up with 5 min left before happy hour ended to see if we wanted to order another quick drink. Overall, I'd say between 1.5 and 2 stars. Prices are good, but nothing I'd go out of my way to go to again.

The place seemed to really have it together. The atmosphere was lively and delightful and our server was very conscientious. I ordered the grilled veggie salad- and it was one of those veggie options where you really don't miss the meat. My friend got the buffalo burger that was on special and totally worth the $14 price tag. All around decent place.

Great place to go in Uptown for a great burger or salad. Have been here a number of times and it never disappoints. Most recently we had the steak salad which has a bit of a kick and the Lowry Burger. Great service and great atmosphere. Have also heard breakfast is great - will be back to check it out.

The restaurant was packed as it was a Friday night at 8pm. We had about a 45 minute wait which was fine and totally understandable. You can either go to the bar and get a drink or get a drink and hang out at the couches that are by the door. It got a little crowded at that door as everyone was waiting and the bar was packed. We got seated at a small table in the back which was an awkward spot because we had absolutely no room to move around, wait staff was constantly bumping in to us and the booth next to us was less than 2 feet away. We ordered drinks, my bf just got a beer. They had 16oz. cans for $3 which I thought was pretty cool. I got the Battle Cat cocktail which was pretty tasty. Appetizer we shared Tempura Green Beans and I thought they were super greasy. Like constantly having to wipe my hands and still getting greasy fingerprints all over the place. For entrees he got the Lowry burger with fried oysters on the side. Pretty decent burger, nothing spectacular. I got the Steak & Pierogies, steak was cooked perfectly and the pierogies were so good. It came with a horseradish sauce that went perfectly with it. For dessert we got the cheesecake, it came with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. It was huge and delicious. I wouldn't mind going back and trying something different, but it's really just a hipper/fancier version of TGIFridays or Applebees for the kind of food that they offer.

It's a bit too expensive to be as neighborhoody as it wants to be, but an overall enjoyable experience. I had the Brown Derby, which is super delicious (yes, kinda small, but I'm half Asian so...that's cool.) Had a cup of tomato soup which would blow your mind. Cheese melted on top. And like four bucks. Then I got this blueberry cobbler which came on this gigantic plate. Also delish. Somebody with me got the jalepeno poppers, which are not so much my bag, but they seemed to like them. I'd say give it a try. It's at least decent, and a new kind of restaurant for this part of uptown.

We went to The Lowry in its first few weeks open, and I still think about the Pickled Vegetables appetizer all the time. Please go and order it!! Fried pickled (they tasted like giardiniera) veggies. Amazing. The drink menu was awesome. We had a lot of different cocktails and good wines. When it came time to order, there were so many choices for vegetarians and meat-atarians alike that it was a hard choice for everyone. Our meals were pretty great. I ordered the mac + cheese, and it came out with a smoky cheese flavor, which I didn't like and wasn't listed in the menu. I hate complaining and sending things back, so I was going to take it home so my bf could eat the leftovers. No big deal, I secretly wanted more of those veggies. The server noticed within a few minutes that I wasn't eating and told me to pick out something new and I did. She and the managers were awesome and seemed like they just wanted our large group to have a good time. So, I got the grilled veggie salad was good. A perfect size if you are having drinks and appetizers, a little too small if that's all you are having. I'd go back right now!

I know The Lowry is fairly new so it's obviously going to have some kinks to work out, but if you want to start building repeat business from the get-go, you can't afford to let those kinks linger. So when my husband visited The Lowry a few weeks ago and mentioned the n00b level of service he got, he was hoping that this wouldn't be a permanent fixture of the place. Needless to say, they're not quite there yet. We were seated fairly quickly... and then it was a good 15 minutes before anyone stopped by. Plenty of servers were passing through, and some were lounging about for a couple of minutes just a few short feet away. I mentioned to my husband, "normally in classier joints, this is the point where someone notices us craning our necks and asks us if we've been helped." A few minutes later, we did get our server. But man, way to start things off on the wrong foot. Once the service got going though, all was well. They do have the sazerac on the menu, which brings me much joy, and it was certainly palatable albeit served in the wrong glass to let the nose properly linger (yes I'm being a snob). My husband ordered the New Belgium Super Cru off of the menu, but didn't get the Super Cru... he got the newest New Belgium Lips of Faith beer, but he didn't find that out until our server passed through again and he had to ask him what was up. The beer nuts? Awesome. The rest of the food? Well, it's Blue Plate; some items are ubiquitous, so they're not going to cause much surprise, like the turkey burger. My husband was surprised by the carrots and celery in his poutine -- it was like stew on top vs. gravy -- but he was still pleased with it. Our brownie dessert was positively lovely. In all, the service level was distressing and if they don't get that fixed, they're going to hurt. But otherwise, the Lowry is perfectly fine. I'd love to come back again some time and be convinced to raise my stars; but seriously, normally I would walk out after 15 minutes without a server. Not cool.

Love the whole vibe of this place...very comfortable and you can tell their emphasis is on quality food and drinks. Our waiter was very helpful with the menu and attentive the entire time. I love gin drinks but the special cocktails sounded a little too sweet for me so I asked him if the bartender could make me something with gin that wasn't as sweet. He actually went to speak with the owner (Jeff) who not only made me a drink himself but brought it over to the table and gave me some recommendations for bars that make great drinks. I had the Lowry burger which was made with quality meat and was a good size. My only complaint is that you can't order your burger medium or rare...only pink or no pink. I think that's what they do at Red Robin as well. Grrr....not cool. All and all...a great neighborhood spot.

My goodness, this place isn't Hollywood Video anymore! We tried the Tuna Poke and the Fish Tacos and both were delicious. Don't listen to Citypages, the poke is fabulous. The tuna was top quality and nicely flavored with wasabi and ginger without overpowering the delicate fish. The Fish Tacos were some of the best I ever had, but terribly messy! Watch out for the juices that run out the bottom. We also made our way through the signature drink menu. In short, avoid the Americano... so bitter! Give the Fog Lifter a try, it's very unique. Everything else was spot on. Service was very nice, the host amazing, but our server kept on ignoring my date.

I came here with a friend because she had gift certificates from a job, and because she already took her roommates out and the 3 of them couldn't make a dent in the gifts, so she took me. Off the bat, I wasn't impressed with the parking situation. We happened to go on a night where the lot was being used by another event. However, they have "free valet", so I was extremely confused as to what to do. So I drove around and around until I finally found a spot on the street. It was extremely odd. However, on the inside, the interior decor was fresh and modern, but with an old timey feel. It is hard to put a description on it, but I liked it. I found my friend in the booth and our server came over pretty much immediately. I asked for a drink suggestion and ended up getting something with cat in the name of it. I can't help that I project my cat-lady-ness into my real life. The drink was good... not great, but good enough to get 2. For an appetizer we had the tuna poke. Now I've never heard of tuna poke and didn't know how to say the name. Luckily my friend did, and I really enjoyed the fresh ingredients before our meal. I would definitely order it again. For my meal I had the braised beef sandwich. I was really surprised by the flavor and kick in the beef, but it was a little dry. The sandwich was huge and I couldn't finish it all even though I wanted to. The fries that came with were perfectly fried and even tasted good on my sandwich. The coleslaw that also came with was so interesting.. and actually a really great flavor/texture combination. It was cabbage coleslaw but it had raisins in it. I thought it was going to be gross, but I'm trying to be more open minded with food. I figured they wouldn't make it and serve it unless it was supposed to taste good, and I actually really liked it. Thanks Lowry for pushing my tastes. The only reason I don't give the Lowry 5 stars probably has a little to do with the confusing parking situation, and also even though our waitress was pretty great from the get-go... after we got our drinks we didn't see her for a long time. Then again after we got our food. I don't like to be pestered when I'm eating, so it wasn't terribly disappointed, but I found it odd that she didn't check in with us either times. I sound really pretentious, but because I was being treated on a gift card I was able to pay attention to the really small things! Overall, I would go back. It's a tiny bit expensive for our typical lunch date but if we were hanging out uptown I would suggest going there. My friend had a burger and it looked really good... I would probably suggest looking at those next time you go!

Been here multiple times for food and drinks, have yet to be disappointed. The fish tacos are great and I love the beer selection. Breakfast is good and the bloodys are very tasty. I recommend this place to all my friends who have yet to make it there and live in the area.

We stopped in for Sunday lunch(12-09-12) and loved the decor and noticed the expensive cars all parked outside while entering. It was our first time there and didn't really no what to expect, we ordered a variety of items- the tomato basil soup was yummy! we didn't enjoy too much of the pickled veggies :( i had the fruit Continental with Greek yogurt which was ok, the scones was wonderful! For the entree he ordered the steak dish and I the steak salad which both were ok..The steak was a bit to salty for my taste but both agree giving it a 3 star for a first visit.
