I cannot say enough about how amazing the cookies and cupcakes we ordered from Sweet Retreat were. They were for my brother's medical school graduation party and they were absolutely perfect. We brought in a few pictures that we found online for inspiration and talked through some options before submitting our order. They were incredibly professional and helpful throughout the process. The best part was opening the box the first time and never mind how delicious they smelled, they turned out better than we could have ever imagined. They were also delicious! I would highly recommend Sweet Retreat for anyone looking for personalized (or not!) desserts.

Solid cupcake shop! I love trying out cupcakes and am indecisive about what to buy but the lady working was very friendly and helpful. I ended up getting a mini Rickadoodle (looks like those Hostess cupcakes) at her suggestion- I loved that they had a mini available. They also have day old cupcakes for half price, so I got a peanut butter cup one and an almond one. She said almond was the favorite out ov everyone who works there and I believe it- it was delicious! The pb one was also good, but the description said that there was pb cups in the cupcake but I didn't have any in mine, just a mini on top. Generally I like to buy filled cupcakes because I like to go big or go home, and neither of those were filled, but the rickadoodle was. The cake was very moist, and the frosting light and fluffy. Good quality and I loved the bargains.

This place is amazing! I ordered my birthday cake from The Sweet Retreat and it was so beautiful, I didn't want to eat it! I ordered it a week before and they were so accommodating and helpful! The cake itself was delicious! Can't wait to order from them again!

Ok i have eaten a lot of cake and frosting. Its my favorite. I have had cake from most bakeries in sorounding areas. NOONE HAS CAKE AND FROSTING AS GOOD AS THIS BAKERY. There is nothing else to sayYour review helps others learn about great local businesses. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees.

Lovely boutique cupcake shop. Cakes look amazing- especially the ombré ruffle ones. The princess vanilla is good. I tried the summer strawberry which was lovely, but I wasn't a fan of the half strawberry inside and would have preferred a compote as easier to eat.

Would not recommend!!!! Screwed up on our special order cupcakes for our wedding. Charged my credit card without my knowledge. Pay close attention to their contract before signing!!!

I'm going to have to say no. The managers really don't know how to take care of their customer's or give great service! They didn't live up to all the hype they put on us. Their cupcakes are way too small for $3, and really not that good. Cub is better. Keep your money and go somewhere else.

I have tried almost all of the major cupcake eateries in the twin cities (what can I say? I love cupcakes), and Sweet Retreat never seizes to amaze me with their wide variety of flavors and amazing cupcakes. There's plenty of free parking ramps in the area, but you can also park on the street right outside if there is space. I always go for the Strawberry Balsamic or the White Chocolate Raspberry cupcakes, but the other flavors are all to die for as well. It's also really nice to explore the area at 50th and France if you want to take a walk while you eat your cupcakes - there's a lot of fun stores and other eateries near by!

Stopped in here on a whim while I was in the area, because I can't say no to a chance to eat fancy cupcakes. I was delighted to discover that they had a selection of day-old cupcakes at half price. (Because at $3 each regular price, that makes it a "sometimes treat" for me, not a "buy a bunch to share with friends" affair.) But because of the sweet deal, I picked up a dozen to share. If they were old, my friends and I certainly couldn't tell. I got mocha, peanut butter cup, salted caramel, and strawberry balsamic. My friend said he wouldn't mind eating the salted caramel cupcake every day. I loved the mocha cupcake--it's sweet, but not too sweet like cheap grocery store cupcakes. The frosting is thick and delicious. I'm really glad I stopped in!

The cupcakes were cold. The cake was dense and doughy. The frosting was thick and grainy. By far the worse cupcake that I have ever had.

Stopped in spontaneously while I was in the area without knowing a thing about the place (if it's pink and says cupcakes, why the hell I say no?) I'm so glad I did. I would go back just to be in the same atmosphere! It was fairly small, very girly, and very welcoming. It just had this positive vibe that instantly brought a smile to my face. The cupcakes are just as pleasing to the eye and even more so for your taste buds. It was so difficult to choose since EVERYTHING looked incredible. I went with the Pumpkin cupcake and my boyfriend decided on the Apple Pie cupcake. I also couldn't help myself and wanted to give the cake balls a try and picked a cookie dough one for myself while my boyfriend chose a s'mores one. My pumpkin cupcake smelled delicious. I probably could've just sat there smelling the thing and would've been content. The cupcake itself was great though. I thought it could've been a little more moist but the flavors were all on point. The cream cheese frosting was to die for. My boyfriend's apple pie cupcake was delicious! It had actual apple pie filling in the center which was a nice surprise. He isn't one for cupcakes (I know, we're working on it) but he was raving about his. So I'm pretty sure that's a sign of a well made cupcake. The cake balls were delish as well. I died over my cookie dough one. My god that was amazing. The s'mores one was good as well, but I personally didn't care for the s'mores flavor. My boyfriend enjoyed it though. Service was very friendly as well. All in all this is a win, but I knocked down a star since it's a bit overpriced. Would definitely recommend if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a little treat!

So glad I stopped in and gave this place a second try. I had gone in back in December with my daughter and we picked up some cupcakes. They were dry and I wasn't all that impressed, but today I decided since I was in the area I'd stop and give them another shot, surely so many rave reviews couldn't be completely off base? I had the Chocolate Chocolate cupcake today and it was moist and delicious. The frosting was light. LOVED It. Will definitely be stopping back in again for a Sweet Re-treat :)

My husband and I had a cake made from Sweet Retreat for our wedding reception. It was beautiful- and tasty! Sweet Retreat definitely delivered!

We had our wedding cakes from Sweet Retreat, and it was a fabulous decision! A couple of friends had recommended them, having had their cake from there, as well. They were happy to work with whatever we wanted to do, and they even accommodated our request to do a couple sheet cakes and a small layer cake in...Funfetti! The choice was a bit of a risk, since it's a flavor they make, but it's not one they sell in the shop, so it wasn't available for tasting. It ended up being one of the things most complimented about our wedding. "The cake was sooo good!" "We loved the cake!" "I had two slices of the cake!" "Your cake was so cute!" And it seems kind of unusual for anyone to even talk about the cake! And not only that, but working with them was super pleasant and easy, and the price was very reasonable, even including super slick delivery to our venue on the day of the wedding! Extremely happy with our decision, and we will definitely be looking to them for future cake things. Yay!

I took my niece out for her birthday last week and we stopped to pick up a couple of cupcakes, they have about 6 different kinds of cupcakes all that looked amazing. We got the chocolate chocolate and vanilla. The frosting was amazing but the cupcake itself i thought was just ok. it had a crisp top (which i really enjoyed) but the main portion of the cupcake was a little dry, and for $3.50 each that seems pretty expensive. They are good cupcakes, just not amazing, and for the price I would have expected more

This might not be my first review I have to admit. Every time I go to Sweet Retreat I come out thinking I MUST REVIEW THIS PLACE ON YELP!! Cupcakes are just gorgeous and their cake balls are INCREDIBLE. My wife and I love this place. We often stop in for a sweet treat then go for a wander around downtown Edina. Very clean, very friendly, very tasty... all round awesomeness!! GO NOW! :)

The best cupcakes! So moist and full of flavor. White Chocolate Raspberry is amazing - little bits of white chocolate and raspberry in the cupcake as well. Highly recommended!

The bf was a complete sweetheart and took a trip here to surprise me with cupcakes! As much as I truly appreciated the surprise, we were both disappointed with the cupcakes. We had the Coconut cupcake, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate one and a Strawberry Balsamic. Not only did we find them small, but found them quite ordinary- both in looks and taste. I did not think they were very flavorful nor did I find them to be moist. The only thing standing between these cupcakes and what you could make out of a boxed cupcake mix is that you may not have quite as much frosting in your boxed package. Overall: Needless to say, we will not be buying any more cupcakes from this place.

I wanted to badly to find a legit cup-cakery in Minnie. Sadly i'm still searching as Sweet Retreat is not as great as they claimed to be.The Sahara dessert has more moisture than the lemon cupcake i had here. It was not good. Im used to FRESH, light and fluffy cupcakes this was none of those things. Sometimes a cake's best asset is the frosting , this unforuntely was not the case. The lemon "butter cream" tasted purely of shortening. i tend to get upset when something that has the potential to knock my socks leaves me feeling depressed. Im sad to say this is one of the worst cupcakes i have ever had. If i were rating this place on decor and service it would be a much better review.

  • Jessica S.

Nothing like pumpkin and apple pie cupcakes to indulgently embrace autumn. Both cupcakes, particulary the former with its spicy moistness and cream cheese frosting, were fabulous. Loved the apple pie filling baked into the middle of the latter. These cupcakes were neither sickeningly sweet nor artificial tasting. Non-frosting enthusiasts will appreciate an even cake to frosting ratio as the frosting does not spiral to the ceiling in the same way it does at other locations (namely Gigi's, which doesn't bother me one bit). Because the sweetness is not overpowering, I could probably down a half dozen in a sitting...but I have also been self-diagnosed with a hyperactive sweet tooth. For $3 a pop, Sweet Retreat cuppies are worth a try.

Ive never been to the actual sweet boutique but I've had a fair share of cup cakes from this place. I'm a little high maintenance when it comes to cupcakes so my review might not be helpful. It's not Sprinkles and it's not Frosted but hey, it's the best closes thing in the Minnesota. I've had their chocolate cookies in cream cupcake and I've also tried their red velvet. The frosting is way too sweet on both and i think the dough is lacking moist.

So it was my sons first birthday last weekend and we got a cake and a few cupcakes for the par-tay! The cake looked pretty cool and though I don't like icing you can't deny the awesomeness that is buttercream! The best part was the turtle cupcake! Best cupcake I've ever had! Chocolate ganache topping, so delish! I could eat it all day. Maybe I will....

Cupcakes are the perfect breakfast food, right?! After getting coffee and shopping at Anthropologie down the street with my #1 woman, we stopped by to say hello to our friend who works at Sweet Retreat (hi Lauren!). I had no idea this shop was here! The interior is decorated in all pink and looks very princess-y. They also have a pink lemonade cupcake that fits in with the theme :) I tried their red velvet and white chocolate raspberry. Both were moist and had the perfect amount of frosting. The frosting wasn't too sweet either! I will upgrade to 5 stars when I have tried all of the flavors :)

We were planning a small party for my wife's grandmother and were looking for a place that had mini-cupcakes. Our search first led us to Coca & Fig, but then we learned that we had to order a minimum of two dozen per flavor. Since we only wanted three dozen total C&F wasn't an option. Enter Sweet Retreats. Their minimum was a dozen per flavor ($17 per dozen minis). When reviewing any business, customer service shouldn't be underestimated. This is where Sweet Retreats excels. Ordering over the phone was easy and the girl taking the order was friendly and patient. I always get annoyed when employees try to rush you or make you feel like a burden. When I picked up the order a couple days later the girl behind the counter was also very personable and chatty. I liked how they tell you how best to store and serve the cupcakes (one flavor was ok to sit out at room temp for a couple hours, while the others were best served straight out of the fridge). Parking was a little tough. Street parking can be hard to come by and there's no access to the shop from the lot in the back. The store is really cute and girlie like most gourmet cupcake shops. There were plenty of flavors available in their case and all looked great. There are also several tables if you can't wait to eat your treats. And what about the cupcakes? Amazing! The German chocolate was my favorite by far. A perfectly dense and moist chocolate cake topped with a coconut, pecan, caramel icing. I can't remember having a better tasting German chocolate cake and the mini cuppies provided a perfect bite size treat. The salted caramel dream was also delicious. A vanilla cake with a white chocolate whipped icing with caramel drizzled on top along with a touch of salt. I thought it was a perfect balance of sweet and salty, but others thought it was heavy on the salt. Their loss, my gain. I ate a few of these bad boys. The choczilla was my least favorite but was a hit with all the kids. It's a chocolate cake with chocolate chips mixed in and topped with vanilla buttercream. It wasn't bad at all, but not in the same league as the other two.

The recent boom in the cupcake industry certainly has its benefits--I don't mind checking out all these places and filling my belly with tasty confections. I had driven by Sweet Retreat numerous times, but finally decided to stop after a lunch at Barrio across the street. The selection of cupcakes isn't that large, but the ones they do, they do very well. You arent going to find anything crazy, but they are still unique. I had a white chocolate and raspberry cupcake and a strawberry balsamic with mascarpone topping. Both were amazing. The flavor of the strawberry balsamic is really hard to beat. In fact, when I was waiting in line at Cupcake (Cupcake Wars winner) one time, the lady in front of me asked if I had tried it. The raspberry cupcake was almost muffin-like in consistency. It was a texture I havent had with those flavors before and it worked well. It appears they do a pretty good business there. A woman was sampling items during a consultation for an upcoming wedding. I also had the opportunity to view some cake decorating through the large glass window. It's hard to say which cupcake place is the best in the city... I think it goes on a cupcake by cupcake basis. Certainly, the strawberry balsamic is right up there with the smores cupcake at Cupcake, the dreamsicle at YUM, or the grapefruit at Sweets Bakeshop. Pros: Sophisticated flavor combinations, free parking lot across the street, tasty cupcakes Cons: Like most cupcake places these days it isn't cheap, it appears they close when they cater events so call ahead if you are driving a long distance

Hands down, the best cupcakes I've found in Minneapolis. Unique staple flavors and yummy seasonal flavors. Sweet Retreat has friendly service and a super cute atmosphere. If you don't make an order ahead of time and you want decent selection to choose from, the earlier you go in the day, the better.

I mean, it's a good cupcake. But SO overpriced. And I was not at all impressed with the red velvet. Maybe I came on a bad day, or maybe it just takes a lot to blow my mind with a cupcake.

We ordered a custom birthday cake from them for my son's birthday. I sent them a picture of the character we wanted, and they recreated it flawlessly. I have high expectations, and my expectations are rarely exceeded. Not only did Jenna and her team pull off an amazing cake, but they did it all via voicemail, because I was traveling in a different timezone when I placed the order, and we kept missing each other. Forget about how delicious the cakes and cupcakes are (and they really are)--their customer service is unparalleled.

I had been missing the Frosting Bakeshop in Mill Valley, CA, so I was really happy to see familiar offerings at Sweet Retreat. We tried four flavors: chocolate-chocolate, oreo, chocolate-peanut butter and coconut. They were all great!

AMAZING!! I am a HUGE fan of Sweet Retreat!! I LOVE me some cupcakes, but most places fall short. Sweet Retreat has consistently wowed me with their amazing flavors and moist cakes. I can honestly tell you that Sweet Retreat is the only place I will be going for cupcakes. My favorites are the Red Velvet and Chocolate Banana.

I heard about this place from a few friends and I decided to see if they were worth the hype. I did so in a BIG way, by ordering a dozen red velvet gluten free cupcakes for a bridal shower. There would be no way they could do gluten free cupcakes as good as my favorite bakery in New York. . no WAY [Insert maniacal laugh] !! I have to say, they humbled me greatly. Not only were the gluten free cupcakes soft, moist, and truly delicious, they were so fun to look at. I had to call back and make sure that they actually gave me gluten-free cupcakes. They were so good!!! Also, their staff is super friendly and helpful. I asked them what they could make gluten free before I placed my order and they said, "just about anything; what do you want". They helped me pick ones that would work for the party I was hosting and I was so very grateful. So they didn't win cupcake wars. Who cares? I don't want everyone and their mothers going to this wonderful cupcake gem. Especially a gem that wins for an awesome gluten-free cupcake choice.

We had a great experience using sweet retreat bakery for or wedding cake! We ordered two different flavors: almond and strawberry balsamic. Our guests raved about the cake and many said it was the best wedding cake they have ever had. The staff was professional and always very quick to respond to our emails, as we were planning the wedding long distance. While this bakery may cost more than others in the area, it was worth every cent. We are looking forward to our one year anniversary so we can enjoy more delicious cake and would not hesitate to purchase from sweet retreat again in the future.

I feel like this is the perfect classy little cupcake boutique... almost. The inside is super cute. The owners clearly took a little freedom to make the place look and feel like a cupcake boutique, but also make it theirs. The cupcakes are heavenly. Moist and fluffy, but not too dense. I had the s'mores cupcake, which had a surprisingly delicious graham cracker crust on the bottom. They obviously don't just use Hershey's cocoa powder in their batter, because that chocolate cupcake was soo yummy. My friend had the strawberry balsamic cupcake, which had vanilla frosting and a strawberry filling. I tasted it and it kind of made me want to eat her cupcake instead because it was so different, but just as delicious (I need to find new words for delicious/yummy). You can't go wrong with any cupcake from here. I think the next one on my list to try will be the salted caramel. Some opportunities for improvement are: Get a little more energy going in the place. I know it's really small and people are probably busy in back figuring out what orders need to be filled, etc. But it would be nice to hear a cheerful "Hello!" when we walk in the door, or to have a small conversation with the person behind the counter. The guy who was there today was not very personable, and was a little awkward. He didn't make me want to stay there. Also, it would be super special to get your cupcake on a little white porcelain plate with a silver fork if you're eating at the boutique. We were given our cupcakes on flimsy napkins, and had to use plastic forks. Crumbs kind of went everywhere. They wouldn't even have to have that many plates/forks because their store seats so few people. But having them would make the experience that much better. Anyway! I kind of highlighted to opportunities more than I wanted to. But they have fabulous cupcakes, so you should go.

After a recent visit to a few of New York City's famed cupcake bakeries, I thought I should give Sweet Retreat in my home state of Minnesota a try. During a fun afternoon shopping around 50th and France with my mother, we stopped in Sweet Retreat after being lured in by a street sign that said the shop had been featured on Cupcake Wars. I personally don't watch that television show, but I figured if they had been featured on a tv show the cupcakes must be good. I was correct! I bought one each of the Monkey Business (banana cake with chocolate frosting) and Butterfinger cupcakes for my mother and I and two other cupcakes to bring to a friend for her birthday. The staff was very helpful, letting us know which cupcakes should be refrigerated and which could sit out, and even putting a pretty pink ribbon on the box with the gift cupcakes. The cupcakes were delicious; very moist and a good ratio of frosting to cake. I think they were $3/cupcake, which makes the price comparable to most cupcake boutiques I have been to. I would definitely recommend this shop and will visit again in the future!

Best cupcakes I have ever had! And I've had plenty of cupcakes. We tried the Salted Caramel Dream, Strawberry Balsamic, Choczilla, S'more, and White Chocolate Raspberry. All were delicious, moist cake topped with decadent frosting. Our favorite was the Salted Caramel Dream, followed by the Choczilla. The others were splendid as well. The shop was cute too, nicely decorated with friendly staff. We preordered our cakes so that we were guaranteed the flavors we wanted. 5 stars! Yum!

  • Breanne K.

Great cupcakes. And I'm picky about my baked goods. Too often, cupcakes in Minneapolis aren't moist and light. Sweet retreat passed that test for me. The cupcakes were moist, light, and easy to unwrap, unlike Sweets Bakeshop where half the cupcake sticks to the wrapper. They had some great flavors, although not too many. Flavors rotate somewhat seasonally as far as I can tell so get the key lime cupcake while you still can!

  • Sophie R.

This place rocks! The cupcakes are moist and delicious and worth every penny you pay. The chocolate cake with chocolate frosting cupcakes are like the best chocolate cake you'll ever have. I also love supporting a local company that does so much for the community. I'll never forget how Sweet Retreat helped raise funds for that little pocket pitbull that was being kicked around a parking lot like a football and suffered all those injuries. I remember reading about their fund raising event and that sticks with me. So combine local business with phenomenal sweets and big hearts, hard to not want to buy a cupcake or 2 from them every time I'm in the area (and when they aren't sold out of my favorites). They are popular because they are so good so sometimes things sell out quick!

I've been looking for an excuse to come here, it seems a new review pops up here weekly. I can't believe the owner didn't win cupcake wars. This truly is a boutique. It even has a great aroma as you walk in. I got lucky, every thing was moist. Cookies and cream was the favorite. I got the chocolates and mocha ones too. Almost wishing the twenty bucks I dropped for breakfast across the street was spent here. Always finding new favorites, add this to my many lists.

Yummy, yummy in my tummy. And it's a cute little shop to boot. The space is small but has a clean and youthful feel with the chalkboard menu, pink carry out boxes, big glass case teeming with treats, and high top tables with ornate iron backed chairs where you can indulge on the spot. I took two of my most selective baked good taste testers--a 6 and 8 year old--to sample a few varieties. We shared the peanut butter cup, white chocolate raspberry, and smore cupcakes. Results are follows: Best presentation to make your mouth water: Smore Best buttercream frosting: White Chocolate Raspberry Best cake base: White Chocolate Raspberry with chunks of raspberry in the cake Worst buttercream frosting: Smore--basically, the smore over-promised in sound and appearance and under-delivered when you actually ate it. Best chocolate fix: Peanut Butter Cup. Overall, this was a good cupcake, but ultimately, we wished we had gone for the banana cupcake with chocolate buttercream frosting instead. The white chocolate raspberry overall was a great cupcake. Not a single regret...except maybe that we only got one! You really can't go wrong here. These cupcakes are normal sized--if you are looking for portion control or just want a small treat--but still big on flavor and quality. Cupcakes cost $3/each. A little spendy, but definitely not a creation I could pull off at home by myself so I can justify the splurge. I can't take more than 3 paragraphs of remembering how yummy this experience, so I must make a sweet retreat...back to work emails and strategy meetings land.

Great and friendly customer service. Super helpful & patient with kids. There was 6 of us and we all got different cupcakes....they were the best I've had so far. I'm not from this area but am very glad I had the chance to experience there food. :)

Red Velvet YUM Peanut Butter Cup YUM Cookies and Cream YUM I'm willing to bet my next paycheck that the other cupcake flavors are YUMMY as well. Not only that, service is fantastic. They are lovely people. Go now!

Wasn't sure if I would like the cupcakes here but they turned out to be really good! Coconut is awesome, so is the red velvet. You can't go wrong w the classics- chocolate and vanilla. Although they can't guarantee non cross contamination of nuts (we have a peanut allergy toddler). He was able to enjoy his vanilla vanilla cupcake just fine. Yum yum

Oh so good. Sweet Retreat was stop #3 on the great cake tasting for my sister's wedding 2012, and we definitely found a winner. I'll give away the ending and tell you that after tasting a LOT of cake, Sweet Retreat is tied for 1st place with Cocoa and Fig. Delicious. Funny enough, the best things at Sweet Retreat were the simplest. The vanilla on vanilla and the red velvet were TO DIE FOR. I mean, such simple flavors, but DAMN were they good. No idea how they get that way. Must have crack in them. That being said, I do currently hail from the land of the original cupcake craze, and Sprinkles still wins. Otherwise, Sweet Retreat gets a 5. Delish. Also slightly disappointing were the weird flavors - like strawberry balsamic. Nope. I love weird shit and that was NOT one I want to ever eat again.

  • Reg J.

Cheerful, fresh and delicious. The cupcakes here are amazing. The coconut ones are a moist yellow cake with flecks of coconut in the batter, with a buttery coconut frosting. I'd eat 4 if I could. Everyone is trying to get on the cupckae bandwagon but this place IS the bandwagon. I wish they were open on Mondays! That's my only complaint!

Sweet Retreat had a deal on Groupon for a dozen Cupcakes for $17 ($33 value). Thus, I was introduced, as were 1747 other individuals who jumped on the Groupon. Located in Edina on 50th and France, it is, as expected, an adorable posh little boutique, just like its website ( thesweetretreatmn.com ) would leave you imagining. My dozen was delicious. See photos. They have about 15 flavors to choose from and I got 2 of 6 different flavors and every single one was amazing. My favorite were the Red Velvet and Cookies N Cream. The frosting was super creamy and flavor infused with the cake bit just moist enough. Staff was very friendly and gave tips on how best to preserve the cupcakes (some could be frozen, and others better left out than refrigerated) if you wanted them to keep for a few days. Prices are obviously higher than your average Rainbow or Target, but priced competitively with other boutiques. Individual cupcakes will run a $3 with a dozen running you $33. Sheet cakes range from $30-$80 for quarter sheet to full; round cakes ranging $23-$45 for 6" to 10" cakes. Not going to be an everyday visit for me, but a treat now and then is definitely well worth the $s.

Delectable sweet treats. How can you beat a cupcake? Spendy however, around $3 each so for me more of a special occasion treat. Can hardly wait for summer and for the return (hopefully) of the raspberry cupcake. Definitely the best.

Sometimes you just need a good cupcake. Sweet Retreat Cupcake Boutique hits the spot. Nice location. Near the shops, restaurants, and movie theater in the posh 50th and France neighborhood. They have fun DELICIOUS flavors like oreo (has an oreo at the bottom of the cupcake and the frosting is light and sweet just like the inside of an oreo MMMMMMM) and S'more (with real toasted marshmallow on top!). 5 stars for the cupcakes!!! My one beef with this cupcake shop: it's cute, but it could even cuter (read "design-y") and more inviting for my taste. The chalk board menu is cute and the cupcakes themselves are beautiful, but the decoration throughout the store is pretty simplistic and there's not much seating. Two tables with I think 7 chairs. I think if they moved things around they could fit more tables inside. I would like to add, on the same day I tried Sweet Retreat, Salty Tart and Butter, and I liked Sweet Retreat cupcakes the best of all three places.

What did it for me: the zombie pirate ship being made in plain sight for everyone to see. The people who work here are just simply in love with their job. They put everything in to what they do, even packing a box of two cupcakes. Not once did I ever see someone not smiling. They could describe every cake in detail and used words I would never think of using to describe cake. Paying $3 for a cupcake isn't something I would consider doing any other place but here.

I HATE GOING HERE, only because picking which cupcakes to get is WAY too hard. This place is heaven on earth every time I go in the staff is outstanding, friendly, and engaging. The interior is warm and inviting and they always have a great array of flavors. Like I said picking one is very hard but the smores or red velvet are always a win for me. If you go here you will not be disappointed.

I was thrilled to see a cupcake boutique when I first moved to Minneapolis. Frequenting Sprinkles back in Chicago this was one of the first places I went to bring something to a friend's party - and I wasn't disappointed! Interior is cute and hip - exactly how you'd want a place like this to be. I got six red velvet cupcakes and they were all delicious; moist, cream cheese icing, and beautiful. Sure, it's a little spendy, but they're a great thing to bring to a party or buy when you don't have time to bake and pipe your own cupcakes.

I am so happy to see that two other yelpers have been able to enjoy what I can only describe as the absolute best cupcakes in the Twin Cities! Sweet Retreat is in a perfect location, smack dab in the middle of the 50th and France neighborhood in Edina. The hot pink awning and interior decoration are adorable and give the store a whimsical, carefree feel --- perfect for their selection of delectable treats! My first trip (I made two trips in two days...oy!) offered me a sampling of the following: Oreo Cupcake: absolute perfection and total indulgence. A moist vanilla cupcake topped with mass amounts of creamy, light oreo frosting. A mini cookie sits atop the frosting and a whole oreo is baked into the bottom of the cupcake. Such a fun surprise! Banana/Chocolate: Fluffy banana cupcake (i could have used more banana flavor though!) covered in sticky sweet chocolate frosting and topped with a banana runt Red Velvet: My FAVORITE!! Cocoa-y, fluffy, moist cake with delicious, creamy cream cheese frosting. Coconut: Vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting and a sprinkling of shredded coconut. I'm not a huge coconut fan but the others I tried the cupcakes with LOVED them! Other flavors include Chocolate/Vanilla, Vanilla/Chocolate, Smores, etc. Everyone working in the store is super friendly and they offer minicupcakes for pre-order....we just ordered hundreds of them to create a tiered wedding cake look for my sisters shower! The bottom line: if you have a child, have a sweet tooth, have something to celebrate, or just feel like a sweet treat ---- absolutely head down to Sweet Retreat.

YUM! Got cupcakes and cake balls here a few weeks ago and they were delicious. The cupcakes are about $3.00 a pop but they're very good and moist. The cake balls are a delicious too! They look small but are super rich and like eating a more portable piece of cake. Everything I've tried from this cute cupcake place has been delicious, I'll definitely be going back.

Sweet Retreat just opened April 1st. GREAT location!!! Very cute store front. I went in and bought 1/2 dozen cupcakes for a birthday. The girl at the counter charged me too much and I didn't realize until I was home. The owner offered to drive to my HOUSE to give me my change!! The owner Robin is amazing, great customer service. The cupcakes were super moist and delicious! EXCELLENT flavors too! My fiancée was very excited to find banana and chocolate! We had the cupcakes for a few days and they remained moist! I would definitely go back here!

Oh my gee how I love cupcakes. But not just any cupcakes. I'm a bit of a cupcake snob. I require well thought out cupcakes, with impeccable cake and buttercream quality. Sweet Retreat has these things. Well crafted gourmet cupcakes in a variety of flavors, freshly baked and with amazingly rich buttercream. My current favorites are the Cookies and Cream (with an Oreo on the bottom) and the Peanut Butter Cup.

Well, I've started my cupcake journey across the USA...I travel quite a bit for work, so every city that I go to I've been trying to find a cupcake shop and try them out! After reading the reviews, I settled on this one for Minneapolis since it got rave reviews. I must say that the shop was in a great area, super super friendly staff and the shop was very well decorated (also, great coffee too!!). The cupcakes seemed a bit expensive compared to the Sprinkles cupcakes I had in Beverly Hills last week. They were smaller than Sprinkles and only $0.50 less than the ones in Beverly Hills. On the other hand, the cupcakes were definitely delicious. The Red Velvet was great, but again if I have to compare them to the ones I had last week, I would still put Sprinkles cupcakes ahead. The Salted Caramel were great, light and a nice twist on cupcakes! Overall I gave this cupcake visit 3 stars for the excellent service, atmosphere, friendliness of the staff, nice packaging and good selection. I didn't give 5 starts only because I'm comparing to Sprinkles and the price was a bit higher than I would have expected for smaller cupcakes. But, I'd go back for a great coffee and cupcake snack!!

Have you ever had angels crawl into your mouth and start singing? Because that's what it feels like to eat one of these delicious cupcakes. My favorite is the Cookies and Cream. But honestly you can't go wrong with any of them. Great layout inside. Very kid friendly but don't let that stop you from going there to get one, in fact you owe it to yourself. Located in the heart of Edina on France and 50th across from Barrio restaurant.

Sweet Retreat's cupcakes are oh so pretty. Their bake shop is too adorable for words. On my first trip here, I could not bear to narrow down my selection to just 2 cupcakes, so I took home a box of 4. My fave was the Vanilla Princess. The Cookies and Cream was also yummy, but the cake was somewhat dry. I can't say these were my favorite cupcakes ever - that award goes to Sweet Impressions in Madison, WI - but the frosting to cake ratio is perfect, the cupcakes are beautifully presented, and the shop is pure cuteness. Be prepared to take a short walk from a nearby ramp or street parking. Seating is very limited, so your best option is to take your goodies back home.

I was amazed how moist and light the peanut butter cup cupcake is at Sweet Retreat. And I arrived at 4pm. I often find individual cupcakes to be too dry. The girls working were very friendly. I can't wait to go back and try more. yum yumyum

Shop was cute but there wasn't a wide variety left at 3pm on a Thursday afternoon. Got a s'mores, wasn't impressed at all. Also got an apple cupcake -that one was good with big chunks of apple in an apple pie type filling on top of the cupcake and then with a good light frosting on top. Wish I could have tried some others as I can't say what I had overly impressed me. But they were cupcakes!:)

We used Sweet Retreat for our wedding cake needs. I saw a picture in a wedding magazine that used stamps to decorate a cake. Although Sweet Retreat had not tried this technique before they were open to do it. The final product looked amazing. I had never seen a cake like that before and it was flawless. It amazed me how talented there decorating staff is to do make something look so perfect when they weren't familiar with the technique. Next was the actual flavor of the cake. We got red velvet and it was delicious and most important (or at least to me) moist! We also went with sheet cakes to serve to guests to reduce the price and the sheet cake was double layered, which was a very nice surprise! Overall impression, SUPERB!

The hardest part about going to Sweet Retreat is not having to work off all those calories afterwards, but in fact CHOOSING which absolutely delicious cupcake to eat this time. OMG. Absolutely incredible. I would recommend the Cookies & Cream, or the Caramel Sea Salt. But they are all amazing. I don't even have much of a sweet tooth and I adore this place.

The owner contacted me and apologized for this happening. She said that if she was there she would have made an exception and that she will talk to her employees about how to handle situations like this in the future. I'll go back now. Like I said, their cupcakes are very good.

I was blown away by the creativity, beauty, detail and taste of the birthday cakes we ordered for my daughters 5th birthday. We ordered 1 cake for the kid party Saturday afternoon and another cake for our family party on Sunday. The kid party cake was a sheet cake with a scene from the Wizard of Oz on it. The detail was INCREDIBLE... I didn't want to cut it. We had the choc-zilla flavor and it was perfect (chocolate chips melted into the batter - soooo good). I had given them an image of what we were looking for (Wiz of Oz) as well as a budget I wanted to stick to. I felt it was completely reasonable ($) for such a detailed, delicious cake. I had an idea for the family party to have a "rainbow" cake. I wanted red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple cake layers inside of a round cake. In order to keep the price low and amount of cake per-person to what I needed, they reduced the diameter of the cake to 7" from 10"... this created a taller, but thinner cake. And it was PERFECT. The outside was white and when I cut into the cake (which was amazingly simple), everyone gasped and started taking pictures!! It was a beautiful surprise to see 7 layers of color on the inside. It was obviously delicious as well. I can honestly say I will never go anywhere else for my cakes again... I would actually leave the design and details up to them next time b/c I trust their talent so much.

Not as good as Sprinkles Cupcakes, plus they are significantly smaller and only 50 cents less. But until Sprinkles comes to Minneapolis, Sweet Retreat is the best you can get in the Twin Cities.

I am a snob in several categories including cupcakes and these rock! The two I purchased today had a quality cake flavor and not too much sugary frosting: coconut cream and chocolate banana. Both frostings will remind you of mom's or grandma's. I will be working my way through each flavor!!!

This place is amazing! I ordered my birthday cake from The Sweet Retreat and it was so beautiful, I didn't want to eat it! I ordered it a week before and they were so accommodating and helpful! The cake itself was delicious! Can't wait to order from them again!

Lovely boutique cupcake shop. Cakes look amazing- especially the ombré ruffle ones. The princess vanilla is good. I tried the summer strawberry which was lovely, but I wasn't a fan of the half strawberry inside and would have preferred a compote as easier to eat.

I'm going to have to say no. The managers really don't know how to take care of their customer's or give great service! They didn't live up to all the hype they put on us. Their cupcakes are way too small for $3, and really not that good. Cub is better. Keep your money and go somewhere else.

Yay!

GO NOW! :)

5 stars! Yum!
