I love this place. I go there around 3 times a week. The portions are huge and everything is always ready within 15min. I recommend the General Tao's Chicken Diner Special. The House Lo-Mein is also great and you can't go wrong with the spring rolls or the egg rolls. They also have lunch specials from 11am-3pm for $5. The prices are unbeatable and I am always left feeling stuffed. 5 Stars from a hungry adult male who loves Americanized-Chinese food and lives 2 blocks away. I mean it's not village wok but then again you aren't paying village wok prices or waiting 45min for your food.

Expectations for Star Dragon were low given the lukewarm reviews and the fact that I'm from California, where good Chinese food is aplenty. I was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered delivery take-out, so I can't comment on service or decor. I ordered the Szechuan chicken, the General Tso's chicken, and Beef and Scallops (a "house special"). The food wasn't overladden with MSG and cheap filler like many, many Chinese restaurants I've been to. If that's what you like, then you might find this food bland, but I rather enjoyed it. It has just enough flavor without overpowering and the food isn't absolutely soaked in sauce. The veggies seemed crisp and fresh, rather than being somewhat "soggy" as is often the case with Chinese food. The food didn't blow me away, but it was reasonably priced, delivery was free, and it didn't leave me feeling like garbage afterwards as is usually case with cheap Chinese food. Two minor complaints: first, as Joe F. mentioned, the chicken is a little insubstantial. It tasted fine to me, but it's very light in texture and seemed like a cheap cut. Eyeballing it at first, I thought they accidentally gave me fish. I didn't have any such issues with the beef. Second, both the the Szechuan Chicken and General Tso's were marked as "Hot & Spicy" on the take-out menu and I requested them spicy. Neither of them even registered for me. I will be asking for extra, extra spicy in the future.

Yum! I love star dragon! They have the best general tso's ever. Their lunch combinations are a great deal. You get a huge serving with rice, and one side item for like $5. They have good fried dumplings too. My only complaint is that the general tso's is so good I can't bring myself to order anything else to try. ;) It's true there is no decor, this is definitely a take out place, and the parking can suck, though I've never had a problem. They also deliver!

Cheap, delicious food! Delivery was very fast! Just $6.50 for entree, fried rice, and an egg roll!

We used to order from Star Dragon once every 2 months or so when hankering for Chinese. After trying a few different spots around Chi-Lake - we determined that for the taste and the price, Star Dragon would be our go-to Chinese take-out spot. After a long week at work, we decided to order Chinese on Thursday night from Star Dragon, then came the loooong night of trying to get dinner... First, the person who took my husband's order hung up before he was able to pay with his credit card over the phone. Second, our order was delivered within a reasonable time frame. My husband had to pay over the delivery guy's phone with his credit card because they don't have a better system for card purchases. Third, after opening up the meals, we realized immediately they were not what we ordered. I called Star Dragon right away and after spending way too much time explaining what happened - finally got a response from the cashier that she would contact the driver and then let me know what was going to happen in the next 3-4 minutes. Fourth, they never called me back! So, I called them. I had to explain all over again what happened to a new person on the phone. Eventually I was told they would remake my food and re-deliver it. After I asked if I would have some sort of discount or monetary apology, the person on the phone became confused and annoyed that I would even think of asking and eventually hung up on me. Fifth, we waited for dinner. Eventually the manager called me back, still confused as to what my husband and I wanted from Star Dragon. I wanted the food that I ordered, I explained, and I wanted some sort of refund. He was only willing to give me 15% off. This was well after the 20 minutes of back and forth communication that was at best frustrating and at worst infuriating. I became so frustrated by the poor communication and unwillingness to give us some sort of reasonable refund and their inability to provide excellent customer service, that I canceled our order and asked for them to cancel our credit card purchase. As of right now, the charge on our card is still pending,

Ordered for delivery and had some communication issues. "What street do you live on?" "5th Ave" "10th Ave?" "No, 5th Ave." "Oh, 3rd Ave. Okay." "No, 5th. Five. 5th Ave." "3rd Ave, got it." "No, you don't. Five. Fifth. 1, 2, 3, 4, FIVE. Fifth ave." Aside from the little vaudeville routine, the food arrived at the correct address in a timely manner. Nothing exceptional about the chinese food. Nice good plump shrimp, pretty good fried rice. Passable noodles. Good prices. Not disgusting.

If they could make better fried rice and cream cheese wontons they'd get 5 stars! This is by far the best Chinese delivery option for Downtown and I can't get enough of the General Tao's Chicken at Star Dragon, it's incredible! Also delivery time continues to be extremely quick!

People rate this as if they paid $20+ per item. For the price it's great flavors and very good food. Consistent quality, have been going here for years and rarely disappoints. Highly recommended the sesame chicken lunch special/dinner combo!

I have been trying to find a decent chinese take out place that isn't expensive and this place hits the spot! They have decent chinese food at a very affordable price! They have lunch and dinner combos and delivery service is pretty prompt as well. This is my go to place for chinese takeout when I don't feel like going out. If you don't want the hassle of trying to communicate a delivery order over the phone, place your order online. I've done that a few times now and have yet to experience an issue.

I called them for delivery after they flyered my door. The person who took my order did not have any sense of humor and the food when it came was bland and flavorless. It was piping hot, which was nice but overall I don't know if I will be ordering from them again.

This place was quick and pretty cheap. Definitely not gourmet and I'd recommend calling in for take out or delivery. They are pretty quick at making the food so you don't really have to wait long and it is actually a bit entertaining listening to the cooks yell at each other.

Finally, decent Chinese takeout in MSP. Star Dragon isn't fantastic, but definitely suffices when I'm craving General Tso's. It actually reminds me of Leeann Chin, so take that as you will. Delivery minimum is $15, which means I needed some cream cheese puffs and eggrolls to get me there - bummer, right? Ha-ha. Chicken is tender and flavorful. The broccoli is a bit mushy and the wontons don't hold up that well on the car ride, but overall the meal was tasty. Delivery time was 30 minutes passed the 30 minute quote from the person taking the order, but I kinda figured that would happen from the reviews so I wasn't too upset.

After a long day of yard work and housework, we decided to get Chinese delivery. I haven't had Chinese food in a long time and even though there is a menu from a Chinese restaurant tied around my door knob with a rubber band every week, I couldn't think of any local Chinese restaurants. A quick google search and I eventually settled on Star Dragon b/c they deliver. I was surprised at how few places do. Maybe that's just me being naive, but I guess i take delivery for granted. Delivery was slooow. The woman with whom I placed my order told me it would be 30 minutes. 45 minutes later the food finally showed. Together we had cream cheese wontons, beef broccoli and szechuan chicken. None were remarkable. The broccoli in both entrees was the best part - full sized bites, not overcooked and mushy, but the rest was really boring. I jokingly said that it seemed like they forgot the MSG. But then as we were cleaning up we saw on the menu that came with the food that Star Dragon is in fact MSG-free Chinese food. I know a lot of people have issues with MSG, but I am not one of them. Maybe there was another reason the food was so bland, but I am going to only order from Chinese restaurants that are not afraid to use MSG from now on as this experience showed me how wonderful it is. It will probably be years before I order Chinese delivery again, but when I do, I won't order it from Star Dragon (unless so many years have gone by that I have forgotten this experience and can't think of a Chinese restaurant and head for the computer to find one that delivers.)

This place was fast, cheap, and out of control. Well it was fast and cheap. One of my biggest pet peeves is when a place is dishonest about delivery time. There is nothing worse than thinking you will get food in 20 minutes and it doesn't show up. This was not the case with the Star Dragon. They explained the wait, and why it was going to take the estimated time. The food when it got here did the job. Nothing to call the US Chinese ambassador about, but it was greasy, hot, and came with a wall scroll calendar that has their menu on it. Clever! The egg rolls were surprisingly good, and were still crispy when delivered. However, this was the first time I had to add salt to Chinese food. I can honestly say that has never happened to me before. If you are looking to eat-in for real cheap. (seriously cheap, a friend and myself had a butt ton of food for about 15 bucks) this place is perfect. Just remember you get what you pay for.

Star Dragon! When I first moved here and lived in the dorms, they slipped menus under our doors. So we ordered from Star Dragon. And it was good. I have never been disappointed - it is nothing more than crappy chinese food, but it does it well. Always delicious. Always greasy. Never a poor choice. You sitting at home and want to be super full for cheap? Star Dragon! Just don't be in a hurry and be prepared to microwave your cream cheese wontons! Also, don't go here for spicy anything. It's not spicy, it won't be spicy no matter how many times you plead for more spice. I haven't tried yet, but some places have spicy sauce in little squeeze containers like soy sauce, I might try to get them to throw like...10 of them in the bag with my order.

Just like any Chinese restaurant, the delivery guy was a tall blond guy and the lady on the phone was definitely NOT Chinese. But hey, I won't judge based on those things if the food is good. Well, it was just OK. After the first time I ordered from there, I wasn't sure if I wanted to order again. I did anyway to give it a chance to redeem itself. Well, not redeem, but prove worthiness at all. I can't say anything bad about the food, but I really can't say anything good either. I might have as well bought a microwave meal and heated it myself at home. It didn't have an extra oomph that would make me crave it again. When I want Chinese food, I want something to set it apart from other types of food. Maybe I just have unreasonable high expectations. I don't think I do though! I wasn't impressed the first time I ordered from there, but the next time I craved Chinese, I called them and tried a different dish. Still nothing impressive. Nothing that would make me recommend the place to anyone. While I won't tell people to stay away, I think it's indicative if I won't recommend it either. Some of the things that bothered me: the food was too saucy; the "super hot" dishes, that I requested be made even hotter, didn't even make me blink; and the rice was too crunchy, almost not completely cooked, to name a few. I wish them all the luck in the world, and I am sure they satisfy the everyday person, but I have had some good Chinese food, and this just doesn't do it for me. I hope this isn't the best place in the Twin Cities. If so, I will need to learn how to make my own Chinese food. I am going to give them two stars for effort and for not actually being bad. I just want to tell them "it's not you, it's me!"

Having tried the disgustolicious Great Dragon last week, I'm surprised I braved a second new Chinese food experience... though I'd had pizza for dinner like 5/7 nights in a row so it was time for something different, and I sure as heck wasn't going to the grocery store. My party of 5 each ordered several entrees and a couple orders of cream cheese puffs. The delivery took almost an hour (to downtown, on a Saturday night), but the food was a pleasant surprise. No grey, mushy, mystery meat - in fact, the sweet and sour chicken was near perfection. My party had General Tso, chicken & broccoli, sweet and sour and chicken chow mein. The cheese puffs were average, but nothing wrong with them. You can definitely screw up cream cheese puffs, but Star Dragon did not. They also supplied us with an insanely copious amount of sweet and sour sauce, and soy sauce packets. I was overall very pleased, especially since I tried it without knowing if it would be good. Star Dragon is definitely my go-to Chinese delivery place, if only because I'm scared to order from anywhere else after my Great Dragon experience. It was also supremely cheap - each entree was $7-8. For 5 people, the bill was under $50 with tip. Good deal!

While the delivery was fast, the food quality was terrible. I ordered veggie chow mein and chicken fried rice. The chow mein tasted like they added a few pieces of real broccoli to canned chow mein. The fried rice was equally terrible. The rice tasted as if it was made several days ago and then a few pieces of chicken and onion were added to accommodate my order. I do not recommend this restaurant at all.

I'm almost 30 and still accept free meals from my mom AND I am not ashamed to admit this. Hell, my dad has been doing the same thing and they've been married for 34 years. I like to think of them as thank-you gifts for being such a lovely daughter. (Psst. If you're ever hungry and have no cash, call me up and ask me to take you to my parent's house. THEY WILL ORDER YOU FREE FOOD, guaranteed. Last night they got a bunch of stuff for our roommate even though I insisted he's perfectly content to eat frozen pizzas and bagles with american cheese melted on the top every night.) With that said, my mom only has three or four places that you can choose from: Carbone's, Papa John's, some sub shop on 28th and Star Dragon. Sometimes you're just not in the mood for pizza and that leaves the Star Dragon. Oh god... I like to try new things but always go with the same main dish from chinese places and that's sesame tofu. I have never, ever been to a place that cannot substitue tofu for chicken in this recipe but, then again, I've never eaten at the Star Dragon when my mom wasn't the one ordering AND paying. Each time she has called them she has ended up in an argument with the person on the other end. They insist they can't make it, my mom tells them they always do, they both argue about what she wants and then the other person ends up telling her how to order it ("Ask for sesame tofu") which is what she had first asked for anyway. No one else ever offers to order from Star Dragon because we want to hear the fight even if we've already heard it 35 times before. The food here isn't perfect unless you're ranking it in terms of American-ized Minnesota chinese food, then it's pretty awesome. The cold noodles with sesame sauce taste like a peanut butter sandwich, which for me means it's great. The white rice still tastes good the next day heated up and I have never, ever gotten a stomach ache from their food (automatic 3 star material) even when I've chased it with some god awful concoction from Dairy Queen. Some complaints? My dad swears that he has only had one good eggroll from them and as far as the spring rolls go, even after they have sworn multiple times that they have no meat, they always come with chicken in them. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I think they hate my mom because of her standard $2 tip for any delivery, no matter how large the order. Normally I feel bad about this and slip them a few extra dollars, but I forgo this tradition with Star Dragon. If her stingy tip means that the arguing will continuing, then I'm keeping the cash in my pocket.

first of all, let's get the negatives out of the way......there is no decor, seating,is about 10 persons max,and parking,is very limited. On the plus side, the food is tasty, hot, fresh, and cheap!.My favorite,is the chicken and broccoli, with white rice....a big heaping plate full.......very nice!.Another one of my favorite dishes,is the orange chicken.....again,very tasty!.whenever i am in the area, and i'm hungry,i will stop in,and have a bite to eat.....especially on cold days,it is comforting,to enjoy,a nice, hot meal.Of course, there are chinese restaraunts, here in the twin cities, that are more up-scale,but this little hole-in-the-wall,is worth giving a try.....and one more thing.....better bring cash,as they DO NOT accept credit cards......hint....there is a franklin bank, just across the street, for your convienance.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
