Earlier this week, I arrived home from work early enough to catch this bright pink truck before they closed up. The motto at Sassy Spoon is "wholesome food with attitude" and that is exactly what they provide. You will not find carb and fat heavy meals at the Sassy Spoon, so if you looking for a cheese steak and fries this is not the truck for you. However, if you are looking for a healthier alternative that uses organically grow and local sourced produce and meats then the Sassy spoon is right up your alley. The menu has some stereotypical healthier choices like a Chicken Salad (served on a bed of greens with apricot vinaigrette), and options that may not jump out to you as healthy like the Pig Pen (braised pork with garlic-ginger slaw). I decided to go with what looked to be their signature dish: The Hungry Hungry Hash. A hash made of sweet potato, onion, broccoli, green pepper, and Andouille sausage topped with a fried egg. It was delicious, and that's coming from a guy that loves hash. I was a little skeptical about the sweetness of the potatoes taking over the dish, but the onion, peppers, and sausage evened it out nicely. Very good, and very filling. I did wish there were two or three eggs on top instead of just one, but that's because I'm a fat kid with bad habits. I'm also pretty confident they would add another egg if you ask. I would definitely recommend the Sassy Spoon and look forward to another opportunity to try it again, which may be a problem. I have a really hard time going to a food truck for a second time when there are so many other options. I keep thinking I'll try them all first then go back to the ones I like, but there are so many that's not feasible.

I just didn't think it was that great. It was a HOT HOT day at the Capitol Farmer's Market-and my little girl and I had some lunch. We got the hungry hash-made with all kinds of veggies-including broccoli and sweet potatoes, organic sausage and topped with a fried egg (would have liked it to have been less hard cooked) It was kinda greasy-not worth ten bucks in my opinion. Nothing special. AND I spend two bucks for a glass of lukewarm iced tea. Usually iced tea should be cold. That's the whole iced part.

Visually appealing, taste-bud satisfying, AMAZING food! We went for brunch on a Sunday at the newly opened restaurant. We started out with beverages. I had the Earl Grey tea. It was fabulous! He had a Blood Orange Ice Tea, which he appeared to enjoy it as he slurped it up when the glass was empty! Next was the Bacon Wrapped, Goat Cheese Stuffed Dates. These were PHENOMENAL! Texture, flavor and visual appeal were all top notch! Then came the entrees. I ordered the Sweet Crepes with no nuts (I love a place that understands food allergies!) The sweet sauce on top of fluffy crepes stuffed with bananas and chocolate chips and topped with real whipped cream cannot be beat! But it can be tied!!!! He had the Savory Crepes. The same fluffy crepes stuffed with shredded pork and miso sauce with plantains. There is a pretty and tasty salad on the side topped with toasted sesame seeds and sea weed. Finally, we finished the experience with the Sweet Science vanilla ice cream with honey and cracklins. Sweet, soft, crunchy and a little salty. This dessert was spectacular! The staff were great, they were happy to see how much we enjoyed out food. And all this from a 100% gluten free restaurant! I am a happy, food-allergic foodie.

So, it's called Sassy Spoon, the truck is bright pink and they're all about nutrition. Needless to say, it's the manliest food truck (snark) around; and it's also pretty damn tasty. The Spoon touts that their menu is all local, gluten free and organic when possible. While that's become standard practice for most purveyors in the Cities these days, Sassy does make an effort to balance meals nutritionally as well, which is admittedly an admirable and less common cause. Balanced blood sugar and celiac-friendliness aside, the food should appeal to those just looking for a tasty meal as well. The Pig Pen, a generous portion of braised pork and lightly dressed slaw, and the Mooonster Mash, which I would liken to a somewhat deconstructed beef stew with braised beef and vegetables on top of a cauliflower mash are both safe and toothsome picks. And generously portioned. Prices are a tad higher than some of their peer peddlers of street sustenance, but are justified based upon the quality ingredients used and ample portions. They accept credit cards via Square and are very friendly - overall a good addition to the ever-growing food truck scene in the Cities.

Cons: 1) Poorly prepared food. (Fish Tacos & Hash) 2) Poorly selected or poor quality ingredients (Fish, avocado, sauce, egg, cilantro, lime) 3) Poor service set-up leading to longer than needed wait times for ordering and fetching the food. There were 3 people "managing the truck" and seemingly 2 were on the line, but usually I couldn't see the 2nd person. Pros: No problems with the order, no problems with staff attitude, no problems with payment, no one was surly, staff were not bickering amongst one another. The Fish Tacos: extremely bland and tasted mostly of the corn tortilla. The cod tasted like tilapia if anything. The avocado was poor quality as it didn't taste like anything. There was a lot of slaw in them, but only some of the red cabbage had a flavor. The Hash: Don't send out food you can see is bad!!!!. The hash that was delivered to my friend was topped with a visually obvious badly over-cooked egg. We parted before she tucked into the hash under the egg. Ingredients: Left wondering where the products were being purchased given how blah the tasted -- even the cilantro. Service Set-Up: Some had to give up on ordering to continue with work and scheduled appointments. I almost left the line for the same reason.

Amazing place for celiacs my sister and grandma could have anything on the menu without having to worry. All of the food seemed fresh and was extremely tasty! I can't wait to go to the Sassy Spoon again. The food was a little pricy but most of it was fresh and organic so I did not feel bad about it.

I love going to the Sassy Spoon. I can not only eat excellent food at a reasonable price (all entrees are between $8.50 and $15 and are hella filling) but I can also drink wine and use the WiFi to get work done in a relaxed environment. I'm also super delighted that there is a gender-neutral bathroom! I'm a celiac and have been for the past 15 years so I know that finding a restaurant for gluten free people to safely eat at is tough. At this restaurant, I feel great (ie not sick) every time I go. If you aren't gluten free, you won't be left out because this isn't a restaurant that has a lot of things trying to replicate a gluten item and failing, they just actually have food that ordinarily wouldn't have gluten. Also, all the fats they use are ones I like, too: butter, olive oil, coconut oil, and lard! I'll definitely be there often. Hooray!

Great place! Great food and clean bathroom. As someone who worries about where to eat it was wonderful eating and enjoying the food with no concerns. I had the pork platter and a FABULOUS orange macaroon with chocolate frosting. It was heavenly. The price was right. I was impressed with the bathroom and how clean it was and had accommodations for women, men and infants. The sassy spoon is homey and colorful. Will definitely become a regular.

By far my favorite local neighborhood'y hangout. I love this place! The space is really cute, the food is AMAZING and the owners and kitchen staff are all super cool. Their menu is either completely or near completely gluten free. Everything is home made, made on premises. Local sourced, healthy, but AWESOME! Make sure you try their sweet potato hash for brunch or their miso slow pulled pork, zucchini based pad Thai. Their home made cookies are also to die for. I can't say enough good things about the Sassy Spoon. Go there now people!

Yum! What a treat to know EVERYTHING is gluten free. There were great choices for gluten-free and dairy free. Love the passion of the owner. We had the yucca cakes and smoked turkey salad. Fantastic. The cauliflower rice yum, yum and topped it off with cookie dough bites! Nice service!

had brunch there yesterday. Not being GF but a have a GF who is, I was happy to try this out and was very surprised. Kinda dug my Sweet Potatoes Hash, she loved her turkey meatballs, also the blueberry pancakes and the sweet potato fries were a hit...the raspberry crepes, not so much though the table agreed. Service was excellent, interactive and pleasant and welcoming.

Went to their practice opening for brunch. It was amazing. We had their pizza which was perfect, even down to the sauce. The local/sustainable pepperoni was yum too. The rice cooked in chicken broth and tossed with butter, seaweed and sesame was pure comfort. It paired nicely with the miso pork/slaw dish. I love the concept of Sassy Spoon! We will be back!

Fabulous food, cute ambience. No more truck so get your gluten free here. So happy they made the transition to a restaurant. Get the hash and the stuffed dates wrapped in bacon.

We enjoyed lunch at the soft opening and found the food to be both inspired and delicious, and the staff delightful!! We will be back often! We are grateful that the cafe is open and hope that weekday lunches will open soon!

I was admiring the selection my boss had for lunch. I should have gone with that as my selection. Instead, I tried the "Hungry, Hungry Hash" which was a bit of a let down. Her dish looked fresh. I didn't find mine to be that way. While it was ok; I was a little let down with the frozen vegetables (broccoli and what seems to taste like the frozen costco asian stir- fried vegetables). Onions, green peppers and sweet potatoes along with about 2 little pieces of the ever popular andouillle sausage topped with a fried egg. It was a tad greasy also. I do not like frozen vegetables; especially broccoli. Don't get me wrong. I was not about to pull a Portlandia "where does the food come from" bit, but I should have inquired if the vegetables were fresh. I would think they would be the way concept is presented. While their concept is great. Wholesome, gluten free etc.... I just found it to be ok and pricey. I ended up throwing a lot of it away. Gals working there were great. Food is fast. I don't know.Second experience with food off of a food truck, not the best.. Maybe third time will be the charm??

Sassy Spoon has introduced a new menu item for 2014 and I have a new favorite. The fish tacos taste great and are just awesome summer eats; a filling lunch without leaving one feeling weighed down. The apple in this dish is the reason I grab a fork when I order these tacos because I want to scoop up every last bite.

So it's a hot pink truck with delicious, organic food. What more could you ask for? They were at the Burnsville Farmers Market a week or so ago where I ran into them. Was planning on just eating the lunch I brought to work, but couldn't resist a hot pink food truck! I got the hungry hungry hash - man it was REALLY tasty - everything was cooked to perfection and it was just plain good. Would definitely recommend it! And if i see them again, will definitely keep on workin' my way through the menu!

Miso braised beef tacos?! Yes, please! Topped with ginger slaw, OMG. This was such a treat. I love that this type of inventive, fresh and delicious food is actually available by walking up to a truck. Awesome!

If you want to get the tastiest pulled pork ever....from the most easy to spot food truck ever, then this is your place. This bright pink truck is cooking an extremely flavorful (tastes like really good soy sauce and other Asian type seasonings) and tender pulled pork. I had the piglet for $7 and right away new I had made a mistake by not going with the slightly larger order for $10. It came with a slaw that was fresh but I just don't really remember the flavor standing out probably due to the amazing pulled pork. I would have minded a little heat (or obviously a larger portion) but the portion was fair for a food truck. There were delicious little crusty bits in the pork that provided extra flavor punch.
