Food = 4 stars Service = 1 star Second time here, first time for Sunday brunch (and last). Called in with a group of 6 people (3 couples) and was told an hour wait; not bad, but the guy told me, "we only have one table for a party that size." OK, so tip: only bring 2-4 people. We were sat at a table and in took 5-7 min for our server to come by and say, "one sec!" At which time I was talked out of walking to anywhere else. Our server approached to great us with, "sorry! It's been a crazy day, we're out of a lot." We asked...well, "the bartender usually preps for Sunday but I don't know what he did cuz we're out of..." And we order one of the two drinks left. She continued to tell us the food they were out of. Now, we got there at 1215, they had been open for 2.25 hours and they were out of 1/3 of their menu. I wasn't so upset about this, but the fact our server 'opened the kitchen' and blamed the fault on everyone else, make me wonder where the manager/owner is? This place is a complete mess and wouldn't suggest it to anyone: there are 5-6 other places within walking distance who will appreciate your service. We convinced ourselves last time that this place was 'new,' but it has now been open long enough that it's had time to work out the kinks. The food was amazing. I'd go back only to get a to go order. The service was bad enough to keep me away from this place until I see a change. Our party of 6 was extremely frustrated, disappointed and all wished we would have went somewhere else. I highly suggest looking into Prima, George and the Dragon, Kings or La Fresca if your in this neighborhood. We will not be giving this place a 3rd chance.

Probably would have given this 3 1/2 stars if that was possible. My wife and I used a Groupon for two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts. We found the appetizers good...the guac was very fresh and tasty and the potato dish very good. The entrees were a different matter. My wife had the taco platter which she like a lot while I had the massive chimichanga. Unfortunately my chimichanga desperately needed spices of some kind because it was bland to the point of being almost tasteless. The desserts were OK but I'm not a big dessert eater anyway. Our server was very attentive and imformative of the menu. We may try it here again but I know I won't be ordering the chimi again....too bad.

I recently moved to the neighborhood, so my husband and I were curious about the restaurants. I am thrilled to announce that Saguaro exceeds our expectations. We had the AMAZING Chimichanga and two of the tacos. We could only finish half of the Chimichanga and all that my husband could do for the next 12 hours was talk about how excited he was that his lunch was going to be the remaining portion. The staff is attentive and friendly - we had a wonderful conversation with our waitress and the head cook. It is an intimate restaurant and sooooo good. The flan was bonkers as well. YUM.

Really wanted this place to fill the void of wonderful AZ food I have been missing since I have left there, but alas, it did not. Atmosphere was nice, its a very cute/quaint place! Service was good, didn't have any issues with our server, very courteous, timely etc....Food was meh for me. Here is what we ordered and my rating/review of each: Guacamole and chips - the guacamole was delicious! Definitely met my expectations, would not change a thing about it! Loved the both varieties of chips we received! (four stars) Elote Corn Bowl - cannot get on board with this, the corn tasted like it was straight out of a $0.68 can, was mushy and had zero flavor. We had seen a picture of some corn on the cob, and that was what we were hoping for, until our server advised us it was in a bowl...(one star, and this is generous) Steak Fajitas - These were very good! No complaints on this one, very happy with how the meat was prepared, the presentation was nice, super yummy! (four stars) Southwest Salad with shredded Chicken - I think this salad could have been great, had the chicken actually had flavor and was truly shredded. Chicken was dry, no flavor, and it looked like they took a fork to a grilled chicken breast. Shredded in my mind equates to slow cooked throughout the day and just super easy to pull apart with tons of flavors from the juices etc...dressing was meh, toppings were good. (two stars) So there you have it! Didn't get dessert, went out to Izzy's instead!

Not too impressed. We used a Groupon. Don't expect chips and salsa while you wait.... that's extra. Went on a Tuesday night at 6pm. Not busy but our food (fajitas and 2 tacos) took nearly 30 minutes. Fajita steak was not a great quality and although my Husband ordered it medium rare, it was mostly very rare. He mentioned it to the waiter but he wasn't offered a replaced, a credit, or even a free dessert. I ordered 2 tacos. One spicy pork was awesome. I would definitely get that again. The spicy fried chicken was really salty and that's about all I could taste. The rice was really flavorful, though. Also, I would avoid the Blood Orange Margarita. I think when they heavily salted the rim, they spilled it in my drink. It was salty and disgusting. Lastly, I pre-ordered churros to go. I specifically told our waiter we had to be at the Ordway for a play. We still ended up waiting almost 10 minutes for the churros. They were good.

Food was bland. Rather the opposite of pretty much any Mexican food I've eaten. My wife and I moved here from the Sonoran Desert. I wouldn't say this meal reminded us of any of our rich dining experiences. So add a star to my review if you've had fewer Mexican meals than us. If you're a veteran of Mexican cuisine then you might want to pass. Too bad because the potential is there.

I kinda love Groupon! I wouldn't have discovered this little gem otherwise. For dinner on a Wednesday night, two people enjoyed their beef chimichanga, spicy chicken taco, indeed beer, tres leche, and churros. All that was around $40! Service was fair, relaxed. The servers gave us their honest opinion about everything. Definitely need a return trip.

Took the kids with wife out of town. The service was super. The staff was friendly, greeted us sincerely, and they were and attentive. When we arrived (6pm) there were a few tables busy, not too busy though, so we got our order in. For appetizers the Guac and then the corn fritters. The guac was good for those of us who like quac the other kids liked the big rectangular tortilla like chips that came with it. The corn fritters came with a sweet sauce that I liked, it didn't do it for the kids but I think that was more their palate than reflection on the food. For entrees I had the chicken chimichanga. It was good but I'd say the rice to everything else ratio was a big off. It's huge (I could only finish half) but a lot of that is the rice. IT was not slathered in cheese like most tex-mex restaurants which was a nice change. one kid got fajitas and one got a taco, both steak. Again the kids weren't crazy about their steak but I tried it and like it, it was you'd expect I think for fajitas, a spicy marinated cut of steak. The kids meal was good too - start with yogurt/granola/fruit, move on to a typical kid meal entree (chicken fingers, tacos, etc...) and then a desert to finish. I was surprised to see comments about bland food, if anyting our food was well spiced. Points for improvement: Our food took a long time to come out. I'd say probably half an hour. Good that they are cooking it as you go, I guess but it felt like a long time. Also, around 7pm, this wave of parties came in and suddenly just like that the place was practically full. I had already heard the chef telling the staff that they were just about out of the pico de gallo and guac appetizers, this was about 6:30. Seems like you'd want to have enough of the ingredients on site to get through the dinner rush. Also once this rush appeared our attentive service dropped off a bit as they scrambled to seat and take orders from so many parties all at once. The space is very nice - lots of interesting details and good decor. I'll definitely go back, I think they have good building blocks and look forward to them succeeding and growing in the neighborhood.

Presentation was beautiful but the food lacked flavor. It wasn't necessarily bad, it just wasn't memorable. We had the breakfast tacos and huevos rancheros with sides of refried beans, potatoes, and citrus slaw. I could have done without the fried shell for the huevos rancheros. Their sauce on the table was pretty good, but I had to douse my meal with it so it would have some flavor. The service was good (the server said he was new so maybe they hired someone better than earlier reviews). For a Sunday brunch, though, the place was pretty empty which was surprising. If you are new to Mexican food or if you like your food on the bland side, this might be a good restaurant for you. If you're a Mexican food veteran or looking for authentic flavors, you might want to try someplace else.

Love this place. The chicken tacos are great and I've found the specials to be wonderful as well.

We were really excited by the addition of another new restaurant to the neighborhood. However, Saguaro just doesn't live up to the new restaurant hype and it doesn't perform well. We came here on a weeknight around 7pm and the place was nearly empty. The service was prompt but the server was a little too personal, asking about how crazy we planned on getting this weekend...it was a little weird. The food was OK, the beer list was good, but the mixed drink that we ordered was bad. My wife usually loves sangria, but she had to leave this one mostly full on the table. It was practically unpalatable. We each ordered a sampling of tacos, (I had the Braised Pork Belly, Chorizo and Shrimp, and Lamb Sausage) which were filling but poorly executed. They lacked a solid flavor profile and quality imagination. I had high hopes for these options and they simply fell flat. My wife's tempura cod and "homestyle" tacos exhibited the same reaction. The "homestyle" was actually pretty good, but since it is essentially your classic softshell taco, this was expected. In all, there are many other options for Southwestern/Mexican food in the Twin Cities area, and unless they are all full or closed, I would suggest going there over this establishment.

I had brunch yesterday and the hash was fantastic. Fresh, inventive, and above your normal Mexican fair. If you want something more than normal cheese covered Mexican food this is your place.

My new favorite Mexican spot. The house-made hot sauce was the best I've ever had. Overall great food, atmosphere and service! Corn pancakes and Saguaro hash were delish. The honey butter was absolutely ADDICTING. I will definitely be coming back to hit up the regular menu and sample some tacos.

Good wine list - good beer selection. Thoroughly enjoyed the margarita which was made with sake - since Saguaro does not yet have its full liquor license for hard liquors (tequila). We enjoyed our meal here one weeknight evening - and the restaurant was about half full of patrons. We started with the guacamole appetizer which was perfect - served with a rack of "flat breads". My wife enjoyed the braised shortrib quesadilla - and I enjoyed the taco platter with Shrimp/Chorizo plus Grilled steak tacos. Both very yummy. The side of black beans was the best ever - and the citrus slaw was nice and crunchy with fresh flavors. Service was polite, professional and fast. We will definitely return - I highly recommend.

Saguaro is close to where I live but the initial reviews were mixed so my wife and I waited until some of the glitches seem to have been resolved. Our experience was good. My wife and I split the kale salad which is huge. We both liked it and would definitely order it again. My wife had the fried chicken tacos which she said was ok but would not order again. I had the home style tacos and the shrimp and chorizo tacos. I grew up in Texas eating beef tacos served on a fried tortillas so the home style with ground beef on a crispy corn tortilla fit my definition of a taco. The shrimp and chorizo had just the right amount of spiceness. Both of my tacos were very good. Service was ok. The server was not as knowledgeable about the menu as I would have like but service was polite and fast. All in all a good experience and we will definitely return to try some other items on the menu.

I really wanted to love this place, but the food just wasn't quite what I was hoping for. The guacamole was delicious and fresh, the tacos had great flavor, but the sopes and chimichanga didn't have especially exciting flavors. For the (high) price, I was really expecting more. They did have some mechanical issues which delayed their full kitchen from opening, so our experience could have been due to food prep being delayed. The space is a welcoming, the management incredibly friendly, and the service was fast, but I think they are still working through some of the kinks of being a new restaurant.

I was excited to try this place but everything seemed to fall short. The place was nearly empty when we showed up for brunch yet it took a long time for us to get our food. The presentation of the food was really poor - it seemed like it was just thrown on a plate. And while okay tasting, the tacos weren't anything special. I felt like I could have made yummier breakfast tacos at home. And my mimosa came in a small juice glass instead of a champagne glass.

Went to Saguaro on a Sunday night. Last few times we'd tried they were closed. Wanted to try a Mexican place in Southwest Minneapolis. Brought our 11 month old, and wanted to get in, try it, and get out. Good: Our server Joseph was very nice. Our food was really good. Service was prompt. Beers were good. Atmosphere was solid. Bad: I like that they do their chips and salsa with these homemade rectangles, but it throws off the salsa to chip ratio. I'd prefer a bunch of regular chips, as the salsa was really good. Beer and wine place only. I blame the city of Mpls more for that than Saguaro though. Will definitely go back again.

Wow! Had the Saguaro Hash. Great flavored and the chipotle chicken had a awesome flavor. Also had the Smoked Trout Sopes. Would order it again in a second. Now open for brunch on the weekend!!

Very unique food. I have never had Mexican inspired food that was like this before so if you want something unique, this is the place. The guacamole was pretty good and had a unique taste and was served in a different fashion. The tacos were good. The margarita, blood orange, was fresh. The fresh fish special was very unique: calamari and pork belly. The orange flan was very good, it had spun sugar decoration on top.

I really enjoyed the late brunch my husband and I had there. I ate a yummy corn bread and gravy dish and my husband had tacos. This place is a great change up for usual Mexican food. The server was a bit. unengaged but the service was ok over all. I really want to go back.

Perfect neighborhood restaurant. It's quaint and cozy with terrific service as well as outstanding food. We were greeted promptly and sat within a few moments. The prices are very reasonable and the wine and beer list has a great variety. We had the guacamole and poblano cheese to start out. They were flavorful and delicious. Just the right amount of kick without being spicy. The added bonus were the home made chips!! We also shared the fried chicken taco, pork belly taco and beef tongue quesadilla. All terrific and very flavorful!! By far one of the most unique and delicious quesadillas I have ever tried. Finished our dining experience with the tres leeches that was out of this world. It is so nice to have this new edition in Mpls. Will be going back for more!!

I really wanted to love this place!! A taco joint in a neighborhood full of families with small children is a dream concept! However, when we came in to check it out ( without the munchkins), we were disappointed. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink. The wine I had was served in a WATER glass, which was smudged up to the lip ( yes, I ran my napkin around the rim) and tasted like a hangover. My husband had a beer, which tasted like a beer. It was local and on draft, no brainer. We shared a few tacos: Roasted Carrot, Lamb Skewer, and the Chorizo & Shrimp. All were two bites worth and unremarkable. The lamb was the best of the three and was recommended by the bar tender/ server, who seemed REALLY stressed out, otherwise. In his defense, I think they run with a skeleton crew and probably still have a few "new kid on the block" kinks to work out. We may try it again, in a few months, assuming they are still open.

Being a native born and raised Arizonan, I had to check this place out. We had a $28 for $18 Groupon for brunch and for two plates, a coffee, and a cocktail (a Michelada which I'd never heard of before but was very creative) we ended up spending an additional $8 with tip. My breakfast tacos were something I'd never seen done before outside of last minute at-home breakfasts (mostly when I had run out of bread and other more-breakfast-y ingredients than eggs and tortillas) but were good although a bit boring. I wanted to add bacon but a side was $5 and that's a little too much to me unless we're talking premium thick-cut honey cured bacon or maybe a whole pound of more mediocre bacon. My coffee was better than expected - and I liked that I got a whole thing of cream and sugar to help myself - but my refills were a little slow coming. My friend's Saguaro Hash looked great and was a generous helping but I'm not a fan of chipotle so couldn't tell you if it was actually good. She seemed to enjoy it along with her Michelada. The menu seems very bistro-y and inventive (think Scottsdale rather than Tucson) compared to what I would normally call typical "Arizona food" (which is really just Sonora, Mexico cuisine with a bit more cheese and sauce to appease the American appetite) but it tasted good and was diverse, with very friendly service and okay prices. I can't ask for much more than that, but it didn't give me the nostalgia of home that I had hoped for.

This was one of the poorest dining experiences I've had in a very long time. I had a Groupon for brunch and we headed over there around 11 am on a Sunday. The first clue was the number of empty tables there were, I think there were only four tables that had people sitting at them. The waiter was odd, sometimes he responded when we said thank you, sometimes just silence? He wasn't rude, just didn't seem to always be engaged. I ordered the steak and eggs, she ordered the Empanadas with eggs. Neither of us were even questioned on how we wanted our eggs??? He asked me how I wanted my steak, but nothing about the eggs? For having 4 / 5 tables full and at least 2 of them already eating, it took way to long for our food to appear. Both plates looked good, my steak was rather small, but it was cooked correctly. The Empanadas looked good but when she sliced into them, THEY WERE FROZEN, the centers were FROZEN... A different waiter was flagged down, we explained they were frozen and they took them away. We then requested a side of bacon and a chicken taco and that we would keep the eggs. Again, for as empty as the place was, it took way to long for the food to come out of the kitchen, especially to replace a bad order. The manager did visit our table and apologized, multiple times. He said the Empanadas would be removed from the bill. We got the bill and they were still on the bill? The manager did appear quickly and corrected the bill, but why? Again, the place was empty, why did he miss correcting the bill? Just way too many misses for a place that was virtually empty. Saguaro, if you want to survive in the restaurant business, you really need to step up your game. There are way too many really good and great restaurants in the Twins Cites, right now, in my opinion, you are not in either of them.

The 55th and Lyndale neighborhood is definitely in need of some more joints for some good, affordable food. George and the Dragon, Pizzaria Lola and Cafe Maude can only be rotated so much! Needless to say, I was very excited to hear a new restaraunt was opening with a very different style of cuisine. Our first visit had some hits and misses, but in general we liked it. The space is quaint and warmly decorated. There's a small bar that seats maybe 6 people with a variety of tap beer and wine rack, an open kitchen facing the dining room and a small fireplace. The seating was mostly small tables, but they do have one oversized corner booth that could easily seat a larger group. Our service was friendly and the meal had good pacing, I like it best when I have time to work on an appetizer before my meal is brought out and don't feel rushed throughout. I thought the drink prices were pretty standard, $5-$8 for most beer and wine by the glass. You could get a Coors Light for $3.50 which I will keep in mind when I want a super cheap dinner. My wine came in a glass that was most certainly not for wine, I thought it was too casual. My boyfriend got the Orange Chipotle Michelada which was a mix of orange juice, beer and chipotle pepper sauce. It was a fun sip, but I don't think I could finish the whole thing in one sitting. For grub we wanted to try a wide array to really size the place up, I mean location-wise it's in the running for a place I could be a regular, so we simply had to! We got the braised beef quesadillas which were awesome. The cheesey meat mixture was super tender and creamy and the quesadillas came with chimichurri which was great for lightness. Next time I will probably get this as my dinner, it's certainly big enough to completely fill you up! We also got the poblano cheese which we thought was going to be a warm queso dip, but actually was more of a cold cheese spread. It was an alright starter, it just wasn't what I was looking for. The "chips" they serve here are not conventional at all, they're more like crispy wafers if anything. Meh. For dinner I got two tacos which would definitely be plenty of food without an appetizer, I had to take home lots of leftovers. Our waitress recommended the shrimp and chorizo taco which was super light and had crispy little potato bites in it. Loved those! The lamb skewer taco was also really good, the cool, creamy guajillo sauce with this big sausage was just juicy goodness. Yum. My boyfriend got the chicken tinga tamales which were actually pretty spicy. Were definitely the type that think a meal where you cry is a good thing, so I'm happy this place can add some heat! Overall we liked it. Going back I think we could eat here with drinks for $25-$30 which isn't terrible at all. Definitely hits the notes I was looking for - affordable, near-by and tasty.

Great addition to the south Lyndale neighborhood. I live right in the area and it is so nice to have another fun place to walk to. The decor is fun and inviting, and the people all seem really warm and nice, making it a really welcoming environment. I enjoyed the wine and beer list, as you can really see that they thought about offering items that fit in with the menu. Also the house red wine is one of the best for the price that I've had! The food that I tried was great. Especially the beef tongue quessidilla, which I have been dreaming about since I had it! The Poblano cheese as an app and the panna cotta as a dessert were perfect starts and finishes. I'll definitely be putting Saguaro on my list of spur of the moment dinners in my hood!

Pleasantly impressed by the taste, appearance, and freshness of the food at this fun and casual AZ-MEX eatery. Spouse and I shared a wonderful app (Elote Corn Bowl), served w excellent, tortilla chips (which tasted home-made and very delicious). For entrée, spouse enjoyed the Taco Platter (1 shrimp and 1 ground beef) with 2 sides: very tasty cilantro-infused green rice and slaw (which seemed a little bland). I ordered the fish special: marvelously seasoned sautéed shrimp, accompanied by a wonderful cream sauce, green rice, and a scrumptious and generous blend of very fresh sautéed vegetables (onions, peppers, saguaro cactus, avocado). The menu is modest in scope but everything is prepared very well and presented very attractively. Our server, Nicole, was friendly and attentive. This will be our new go-to place for southwest inspired food!

My fiancé and I found this place by searching on Groupon. So we decided to go try it out on a Friday night and when we arrived the staff greeted us very kindly and showed us to our table. The waiter we had was very nice and knowledgable on all the food and specials. The special that day was a BLT taco (we didn't try it) but it sound pretty good. It was crispy pork belly, lettuce and tomatoes. I had a shrimp & chorizo taco and a fried chicken taco. They both were great the chorizo was jus really salty, but most of the time it is. My fave was the fried chicken taco. It had a great mole spread on the tortilla & pickled cabbage. Fiancé had a shrimp and chorizo taco and the house taco (just your regular ground beef taco for you plain Jane's). The icing on the cake was the blood orange margarita the beezneez. Please have one when u go. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. No lie from a real foodie. FYI... Cannot use Groupon on Fridays & Saturdays. But the food was so good that we ate there anyway and will use the Groupon later.

Saguaro has been open 3 weeks and they may be working out some kinks...first our waiter carded our table of 4 and the youngest was 47! We hadn't seen each other for a while and wanted a leisurely dinner, he approached us way too often about ordering and the restuarant had open tables. They have a nice selection of draft beer and decent wine list. We ordered guacomole, salsa and chips for appetizers which were fine. For dinner we each ordered tacos, ($3-$5), we liked the chorizo and shrimp and homestyle taco but not the fried chicken taco. We shared 2 chimichangas, ($13) which were dry, full of rice and not much meat. The atmosphere was nice, warm and comfortable. I love Mexican food and but have had better. Our check for 2 drinks, 2 shared apps, 2 tacos and one chimichanga was $42 plus tip.

We passed by this place all the time because it is fairly visible on 53rd and Lyndale (same block as Kowalskis) and finally got a chance to stop in and try it out. Boy, were we glad we did! The ambiance is clean, classy, quiet, and comfortable - purrfect of a romantic evening together. We really liked the southwestern style decor. The service was very attentive and friendly. I really loved the chips and salsa which were promptly refilled. I had the shrimp special which was creamy, delicious, and filling. She had the chicken chimichanga which was good because it was not too greasy, like it is at many other places. And of course we topped it off with margaritas which were generously portioned and very tasty and refreshing. We really can't wait to go back and are super happy we found this neighborhood gem!

Some of the best tamales I've had! Still some service issues, but those were dealt with in a professional manner. Can't wait to go back. Good Southwest food is poss in MN!

It was our first visit to Saguaro and, although I was a bit skeptical, we found the food to be quite fantastic. I'm a bit puzzled by some of the reviews claiming that the food was "blah" and lacked flavor since what we ordered had a wonderful mix of complex flavors. Perhaps it's all in what you order...could be... The guacamole and poblano cheese appetizers were both excellent, and I had a roasted carrot taco along with the enchilada platter (the only 2 vegetarian options really on the menu). I found both amazing. The enchilada platter had a very lovely mix of flavors and was more than enough food on its' own but I was so tempted to try the roasted carrot taco, something I have never seen before on a menu, that I couldn't help myself. I found the taco was perfect with adding just a bit of the 2 house made taco sauces that were on the table. Again, very vibrant, complex flavors that were really appealing to my palette. The presentation was also top notch, something of a rarity outside of established places like Frontera Grill. I also notice that many people have complained about the service but ours was attentive and prompt. We'll definitely be returning.

Stopped in for a Sunday dinner (6 adults, 1 kid). I was able to reserve a table and when we arrived early the table was set up for our group off the to corner (ie-off of the main dining area which I appreciated). The interior is pretty small, but cozy. I liked the tiny bar area. Our server was attentive. Maybe a little odd, but overall I'd give him a 4 out of 5. I should add, we were seated despite not all parties being present which is a change of pace (one person left his wallet at home). I don't remember being blown away by the beer list so I settled for Pacificos. The guac, salsa, and chips were tasty. I had the steak, chicken, and homestyle tacos. That was more than enough to fill me up. I really enjoyed the homestyle, the chicken was interesting and flavorful, and the steak was good but I was too full to enjoy. I'd definitely stop back again.

Delicious flavors incorporated into very fresh and unique ideas that hit the spot. A very good addition to the neighborhood. Brunch is incredible, both the food and the mimosas. We had a variety of starters and tacos when we went for dinner. We especially enjoyed the shrimp and chorizo taco and the lamb taco. Friendly service as well!

Went here for brunch a few weeks ago, and it was wonderful! I had the corn pancakes, and wished it had been twice as many! They were filling, delicious, and I want to eat them every Saturday. My friend had the Saguaro hash, and loved every bit of it. It was generous portions, so she ended up taking some home, but was excited to have a second helping of a delicious meal! The staff were friendly but not overbearing, and it was a hospitable atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be returning soon! (I was going to take a picture of my food, but in my excitement to eat it, I forgot before it was too late!)
